[Bug 381448] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()

2009-06-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Ok let's wait to happens again then, without a backtrace there's not
too much we can do either, it would help to post a few steps in order to
reproduce the issue but you said that it only happens when you login,
which works fine here and not a lot of people seems to have the same
issue, it could be that evolution-data-server is crashing for example,
but anyways let's wait for it to happens again. thanks marco.

[Bug 384505] Re: More persistent calendar reminders

2009-06-10 Thread Tim
Here is the basis of my query on whether Ubuntu changes default
behaviour:

Also, I have found that when the alarm notifier shows up in the notification
area, it is VERY easy to accidentally dismiss the alarm. You must
left-click in order for the Appointments window to pop up. If you
accidentally right-click (as I often do), the alarm basically turns off for
that event forever (unless you manually set the alarm to repeat).

I would like to be able to disable the right-click behavior and I'd also
like for the Appointments window to pop up by itself, without me having to
 left-click the notification icon.

Using SVN trunk on openSUSE-11.0 - all my reminders pop up as windows,
by default. I'm not aware of reminders in the notification area.
(Ubuntu specific patch probably?)

Here is the link to the thread:
http://www.nabble.com/forum/ViewPost.jtp?post=18317635framed=y

It sounds like OpenSUSE has the behavior I am looking for in Ubuntu.
Since SUSE and Evolution are both Novell creations, it seems that SUSE's
behaviour should be the default upstream behavior?

[Bug 385626] Re: eog crashes when I open an image

2009-06-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. While .xpi files are used in Firefox,
there are also used in other applications based on xulrunner such as

Indeed the LRM init script is missing its LSB headers. We are

So we only care about starting. Starting at priority 7 in rcS.d and

[Bug 385633] [NEW] [karmic] display doesn't go to DPMS sleep

2009-06-10 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Acer Aspire 4530, display does not go to DPMS sleep after the selected
timeout in gnome-power-preferences.

The display seems to blank instead of actually sleeping. On AC power,
have not tried on battery yet.

Saw bug #203513 which seems similar, but I'm running a development

I also have this same problem. The mouse and keyboard freeze up after a

way, since I cannot restart the X server or reboot using the keyboard.

Right now I am going to try to set up an sshd on it so I can log in
remotely and try to snoop around and see what is going on.

I am running Kubuntu 9.04 on two other (32 bit) machines with no
problems. The problem machine is 64 bit. It worked fine with the
previous version of Kubuntu. The problems started immediately upon
upgrading to 9.04.

[Bug 385635] [NEW] (copy) inserted at wrong position when cloning files

2009-06-10 Thread marmuta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I use copypaste to clone a file with multiple dots in its name,
nautilus adds (copy) at unexpected positions. It seems to add it right
before the first dot, when it should insert it just before the last dot.

Examples:
test.a.b -- test (copy).a.b
strace_liferea-1.4.26.txt -- strace_liferea-1 (copy).4.26.txt

Howto:
right click on file with multiple dots and select copy
right click on empty space and select past

Once again, thank you very much. I'll try this now in Linux Mint 7 as well.
Since it's based on Jaunty , it might work for that distro as well.

I'll let you know

[Bug 369047] Re: alc883 audio chip not found in 2.6.28-11 kernel, works with 2.6.27-11

2009-06-10 Thread Pitabred
Good news! I have the proposed repository enabled and just installed the
2.6.28-13-generic kernel, and it shows all my sound cards as being
detected! I'm not in front of the machine so I can't actually check the
speakers, but everything looks on the up and up from remotely here. I'll
post if it really does work:

Linux Wakko 2.6.28-13-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2 07:55:09 UTC 2009 x86_64
...
m...@wakko:~$ aplay -l

  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 2: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: ATI HDMI [ATI HDMI]

Being that 2.6.29 and 2.6.30 didn't work from the Karmic packages, it
may just be a kernel configuration issue. Hope that helps someone who
has been having the same problems.

Re: [Bug 385584] Re: gedit not printing more than single page

2009-06-10 Thread Sam
Well, although the print preview shows just one page, on turning to the
second page, nothing shows up. According to the top panel of the print
preview window, the display should be showing the second page of the
document, but it remains as if there was no document open. Besides this, if
i try to print anything more than a single page document, it just prints a
single page. I did reinstall gedit and cups, but it doesnt seem to make a
difference. The print preview is working fine for other applications. For
example, if I try to print a multipage document from mozilla, it lets me
preview multiple pages and also print them normally. Only in gedit does the
print preview fail.

I'd previously installed from source pidgin 2.5.5 in /usr/local. Now that
2.5.6 can be installed automatically on ubuntu, I updated
/etc/apt/sources.list.d per the web page instrucions and upgraded to 2.5.6
using update manager. About said I was now running 2.5.6 but from time to
time pidgin would suggest that I upgrade to 2.5.6. Looking closer, I was
still running libpurple 2.5.5. I tried to use synaptic to completely uninstall
and reinstall pidgin and libpurple, but I still had libpurple 2.5.5. Only
thing that seemed to work for me was to go back to the 2.5.5 source and as
root, make uninstall.
Now it says Im at 2.5.6 with libpurple 2.5.6.

[Bug 384505] Re: More persistent calendar reminders

2009-06-10 Thread Tim
I just found this on Ubuntu Forums from Sept. 23, 2008:

To anyone else who wants to make Evolution just pop up the alert dialog
with the snooze button directly instead of a tray alert, here's the fix:

1) ALT+F2 for a run dialog, and type 'gconf-editor'

2) navigate to apps/evolution/calendar/notify

3) de-select the 'notify_with_tray' entry.

Link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=5841961postcount=9

Given that SUSE apparently does this by default, does this indicate that
Ubuntu changes upstream behavior to notify_with_tray?

If this indeed works (I still must test as I am running Ubuntu 9.04 and
things may have changed since Sept 23, 2008), it will only leave the
behavior of automatically dismissing reminders as a problem.

[Bug 385643] Re: crashes on page containing Flash

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 385646] [NEW] Samsung N110 netbook. Disable wireless card function + f9 key does not work

2009-06-10 Thread Sweeney1975
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

on the new Samsung N110 netbook I have noticed that some of the function keys
do not work.
Function key + f9 should disable wireless
Function key + f5 should turn backlight on and off
Function key + f8 should change processor speeds

The other function keys seem to work fine. I have tried all the fixes
that I can find (mainly for a similar model netbook ie Samsung NC10) but
they do not seem to apply or work.

The keystroke captured for the wireless using xev is XF86WLAN.

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 stable.
and i believe that the wireless is using the ath5k module.

My D-Link DBT-122 (ID 2001:f111) works as expected. This confirms that, for

[Bug 268502] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work (hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout)

2009-06-10 Thread Dominique Meeùs
For some dongles (as my D-Link DBT-122), there little or no kernel
problem, but a Bluez problem.

This is what I did concretely:
— display http://http.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/b/bluez/
— click libbluetooth3_4.40-2_i386.deb and simply accept installation by GDebi
— idem with bluez_4.40-2_i386.deb and bluetooth_4.40-2_all.deb. (Others may
have to make an other choice than i386.)

With Bluez 4.40, my problem was solved (after nearly eight months
regression!)

It would be interesting that other people test Bluez 4.40 with the
Broadcom or other dongles. It would be interesting to make this test
with kernels 2.6.27 or 2.6.28. I installed 2.6.29 (with no improvement)
before I heard of Bluez 4.40.

[Bug 370756] Re: Tracker and odt2txt

2009-06-10 Thread mrmiller83
When I enable indexing with Tracker my CPU goes to 100% within a minutes
or so. When I open the system monitor there are multiple instances of
odt2txt running (I've seen up to 4 before I start killing them). I have
a clean install of Jaunty Desktop (32-bit), I've only added a few
programs, one of which is Tracker. This is not good!!!

[Bug 384979] Re: svnserve segfaults

2009-06-10 Thread Kaustubh
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: subversion

I have a server Ubuntu 9.04 x86_64. I need to install an svn server on
the machine. I installed the subversion package from the repository, but
whenever I try to do any operation via svn+ssh://, the svnserve binary
on the server segfaults. The error in dmesg is as follows (the locations
of the ip and sp vary across multiple invocations of the svnserve
  binary):

  [104886.443703] svnserve[19935]: segfault at 7f8bb8c7a788 ip
  7f8bb7f71d16 sp 7fffc0c92420 error 4 in
  libdb-4.6.so[7f8bb7ebb000+13a000]

  kaust...@alpha:~$ lsb_release -rd
  Description:Ubuntu 9.04
  Release:9.04

  kaust...@alpha:~$ apt-cache policy subversion
  subversion:
Installed: 1.5.4dfsg1-1ubuntu2
Candidate: 1.5.4dfsg1-1ubuntu2
+
+ UPDATE: This turned out to be an error with the Berkeley DB backend. We
+ upgraded the OS from 32-bit to 64-bit, but did not upgrade the svn DB
+ files to 64-bit. However, it would be helpful if svn/Berkeley DB exited
+ gracefully, instead of segfaulting. The problem was solved by recreating
+ the svn db files.

[Bug 295091] Re: kernel crashes at boot on a dell inspiron 531.

2009-06-10 Thread gbon
@Martin

I tried the hardy-proposed kernel on top of my intrepid installation.

The machine boots, but the resulting (hybrid) system has poor graphics
resolution and in general is not very usable. Probably, there are
incompatibilities between the 2.6.24 kernel and the rest of the system
(compiled against a later kernel).

I suggest that Arv3n tries the proposed kernel on his hardy installation
and reports the results.

[Bug 385128] Re: *.XPI should be associated with Firefox in KDE

2009-06-10 Thread Mark
But opening them as zip-file is in most cases also not the choice. I do
not know how it is in Gnome, but in KDE there is the possibility to
associate with more then one filetype and sort by priority. I think it
is a reasonable assumption that most extensions are used in Firefox, so
Firefox would be priority one then and then others follow. So please
reconsider your decision.
