This morning the machine crashed me fiddeling around to much i think. If i've got Mr Kao:s mail yesterday i could have supplied the files as they were from my eeeASUS G4where i filed the bug from. I'll reinstall but it will take a while. But I can inform as far as i got. The behavior with just 1Mbit rate exists on different brands of AP. Tested 3Com, D-link and linksys. Confirmed even on my other laptops Dell lattitude i.e with PCMCIA 3Com Network card now running WICD and wext-driver there. But on the eeePC i needed Mobile ( 3G network ) WICD doesent support it but the networkmanagerer does perfectly so thats why i struggel with it and don't just uninstall it. The next step workaround to get rid off scripts bringing down network change rate to 11Mbit and then bring it up again and select network. were. Uncomment in file /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/wireless-tools: #if [ -n "$IF_WIRELESS_RATE" ]; then # $IWCONFIG "$IFACE" rate $IF_WIRELESS_RATE #fi and add after: iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M I though have 11g networks ( 54Mbit ) but the ath5 driver doesent work with higer rate than 11Mbit otherwise it displays 54 ( if you set the rate to 54 ) but delivers less than 1Mbit. Security: * No CVE entries, the only entry matches on cheesetracker, a different source. * No matches in Secunia history. * Any binaries running as root or suid/sgid ? Any daemons ? No, in both cases. * No network activity. * Does not seem to process binary or structed data directly. * No source code review. 4. Quality assurance: * Package works out of the box. * No debconfage. * No relevant Debian bugs. * Maintenance in Debian is irrelevant, we maintain the package ourselves. * Upstream is vigorous. * Upstream bug tracker: (mention any particularly relevant or critical) * Hardware: This package deals with webcams. * There doesn't look to be a testsuite. 5. UI standards: * User-visible strings are internationalized using standard gettext system ? Yes * Package with translatable strings builds a PO template during package build ? Yes * End-user applications ship a desktop file ? Yes 6. Standards compliance: * Compiles with both the FHS and Debian Policy. * Bog-standard CDBS + debhelper with simple-patchsys. No oddities. 7. Dependencies: * All Build-Depends and Depends are in main. 8. Maintenance: * How much maintenance is this package likely to need ? Not a lot, it gets updated to a new upstream fairly frequently. * Who is responsible for monitoring the quality of this package and fixing its bugs ? Are they Ubuntu or Debian developers ? The desktop team. 9. Background information: * What do upstream call this software ? Has it had different names in the past ? cheese. Doesn't seem to have had any other names. 10. Internationalization: * Are graphical applications translatable? Do they support gettext? Yes. -- MIRs for UNR packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392410 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 396000] [NEW] [ia64] update-initramfs fails to run elilo after updating an initramfs
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu karmic (but likely true of older versions), update-initramfs fails to call elilo to update the EFI partition and properly install the new initramfs, which can cause issues such as failure to boot when packages like udev are updated. The kernel properly calls elilo, so this is just an issue when the initramfs is updated separately from the kernel packages. (I can't file a bug with ubuntu-bug on this due to apport currently segfaulting on ia64, but I can test any patches or provide any info by hand) Steps to Reproduce: 1. On ubuntu-karmic, install any package that will update the initramfs without updating the kernel Excepted Behavior: The initramfs on the EFI boot partition is properly updated Current Behavior: The initramfs isn't udpated at all Justification for Critical priority: A mismatched kernel/initramfs/userland can leave the system in a non-bootable state on ia64, which is what happened to me (udev wasn't properly updated on the initramfs forcing me to boot the old kernel, and force-updating everything then calling elilo) ** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical Status: New ** Tags: ia64 ** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Description changed: On Ubuntu karmic (but likely true of older versions), update-initramfs fails to call elilo to update the EFI partition and properly install the new initramfs, which can cause issues such as failure to boot when packages like udev are updated. [Bug 295172] Re: usb-creator does not work when $HOME is on NFS
A possible fix is to write the log file to /var/log/usb-creator.log instead of ~/.usb_creator.log if the user is root. The fix is easy, in usbcreator/backend.py:28-29 replace with: log_file = '/var/log/usb-creator.log' I've attached the modified file. I couldn't figure out how to generate a patch quickly. The Code tab in launchpad let me download a .tar.gz, so you're getting a modified file. [Bug 202457] Re: Preferences option for Removable Drives doesnt control Removable drives
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately a paper cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of this project. gnome- volume-manager is not in the default install anymore, hence Not a papercut. A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10. I just haven't had the time to try to go through the Ubuntu Jaunty ext4 patch backports, which is where I assume the problem might be. However, the problem Roland reported could very well lead to a deadlock in the truncate path, which is very much related to the problems are reported. The only way the problem Roland's potential deadlock could be related to this is if there is a bug in the Ubuntu ext4 backport such that the truncate code thinks it's only doing a partial truncate in the case of a delete. But we it seems pretty clear that there was a bug in the Ubuntu backports of various ext4 patches, so the one-line patch which I suggested might actually make things better. - Ted -- Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm still seeing this, as of latest updates on 9.04. Just asked Nautilus to expand a 650 file directory in the same window, in list (tree?) view. [Bug 351305] Re: Ubuntu freezes when it loses wireless signal (also very weak signal)
Can you please try installing the linux-backports-modules-jaunty package. The linux-backports-modules-jaunty package contains and updated compat-wireless stack which may help. Be sure to reboot after installing this package in order to test. Please let us know your results. If the issue remains even after installing and testing linux-backports- modules-jaunty, could you then please try the latest upstream compat- wireless stack. See http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Download for more info. If the issue exists upstream, we'll want to work with the upstream developers to try to get this resolved. Also, after confirming the issue remains with the latest upstream compat-wireless stack, be sure to also run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 351305 -- Ubuntu freezes when it loses wireless signal (also very weak signal) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
