* No source code review.
4. Quality assurance:
* Package works out of the box.
* No debconfage.

* CDBS + debhelper, simple-patchsys, no oddities, handwave.
7. Dependencies:

very much.
* Who is responsible for monitoring the quality of this package and fixing

Re: [Bug 394685] Re: NetworkManager crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

fails with libnm-util0-dbgsym not found; my sources.list contains the

As libnm-util1 is installed, I suppose the link you've sent is outdated.
Now I'm wondering if anything else might have changed...

[Bug 396006] [NEW] There are no important hard drive (block device) meters

2009-07-05 Thread mmarkk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

1. Drive speeds (Block device read and writes in MB/s).
2. Drive "load average" - so user can see how his drive is loaded -- how many
processes need IO operations on drive. Average for 1 minute, 5 and 15 - as for
processor.

point 1 and 2: I think every real drive should be shown, not partitions.
But somebody wants partitions shown, so option should be. I think for
every meter, three sub-meters should be - reading, writing, reading+
writing.

3. swap activity - summary for all swaps.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-system-monitor
Package: gnome-system-monitor 2.26.0.1-0ubuntu1

2009-07-05 Thread Martin Pitt
Jaume, thank you for testing. Indeed it is expected that this update
"breaks" the killswitch again, as it was in jaunty final. The backend
code which checks the status of the killswitch just doesn't work, so we
should rather disable it completely (and thus break the killswitch) than
breaking your wifi entirely (by always killing it).

Update: after reinstalling, I clicked on my "Update notifier" icon, and

[Bug 396002] [NEW] Please merge varkon-1.18B-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-07-05 Thread Charlie_Smotherman (porthose)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: varkon

Please merge varkon 1.18B-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

The change /bin/sh to /bin/bash in debian/varkon.sh is still needed.

Changelog since current karmic version 1.18A-4ubuntu1:

varkon (1.18B-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload.
  * New upstream release
+ not the latest at this time but chosen to minimize changes while
dropping gcc 3.4 and -fwritable-strings (Closes: #453009, #533801)
+ refresh debian/patches
+ doc/ moved to man/
  * Remove useless Depend: debianutils for user/developer manual,
sensibile-browser from sensible-utils is required anyway
  * Simplify versioned Depends/Recommends/Suggests and move recommended
user/developer manuals to suggests
  * New Homepage (Closes: #500849)
  * Apply patch for bashism in debian/varkon.sh, thanks Tim Retout and
Chris Lamb (Closes: #465376)
  * Disable copying of examples as they are not shipped (Closes: #449265)
  * debian/patches/remove_strip.dpatch remove strip usage from upstream
makefile (Closes: #438255)

[Bug 365965] Re: Firefox3.5 recommends ubufox but should suggest ubufox

2009-07-05 Thread Peabody
Firefox also doesn't need all the GTK libraries to run. I'm running
Firefox 3.5 from their binary distribution along with flash and I have
no GTK libraries installed on my Kubuntu system. I would appreciate if
the repack excludes all the GTK libraries that are unnecessary to run
Firefox 3.5. If they are needed for ubufox or whatever make them
dependent on that and not Firefox. I really don't like installing from
binary distributions when the software is available on the repository,
but I will not install gtk.

[Bug 387794] Re: Wifi goes up and down

2009-07-05 Thread eeeAsus
This morning the machine crashed me fiddeling around to much i think.
If i've got Mr Kao:s mail yesterday i could have supplied the files as they
were from my eeeASUS G4where i filed the bug from.
I'll reinstall but it will take a while.
But I can inform as far as i got.
The behavior with just 1Mbit rate exists on different brands of AP. Tested
3Com, D-link and linksys.
Confirmed even on my other laptops Dell lattitude i.e with PCMCIA 3Com Network
card now running WICD and wext-driver there.
But on the eeePC i needed Mobile ( 3G network ) WICD doesent support it but the
networkmanagerer does perfectly so thats why i struggel with it and don't just
uninstall it.
The next step workaround to get rid off scripts bringing down network change
rate to 11Mbit and then bring it up again and select network. were.

Uncomment in file /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/wireless-tools:

#if [ -n "$IF_WIRELESS_RATE" ]; then
#  $IWCONFIG "$IFACE" rate $IF_WIRELESS_RATE
#fi

and add after:

iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M

I though have 11g networks ( 54Mbit ) but the ath5 driver doesent work
with higer rate than 11Mbit otherwise it displays 54 ( if you set the
rate to 54 ) but delivers less than 1Mbit.

Keep this bug open a while, until i reinstalled my eeePC so i can support the
logs you asked for.
ill do my best to hurry but i have som more project planned ( didn't plan that
my eeePC should crash )
Thank you for your patient
Regards:
eeePC

[Bug 392410] Re: MIRs for UNR packages

2009-07-05 Thread Steve Kowalik
MIR for cheese:

1. Availability: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/c/cheese;
available for all supported architectures
2. Rationale:
* Dependency of ubuntu-netbook-remix
3. Security:
* No CVE entries, the only entry matches on cheesetracker, a different
source.
* No matches in Secunia history.
* Any binaries running as root or suid/sgid ? Any daemons ? No, in both
cases.
* No network activity.
* Does not seem to process binary or structed data directly.
* No source code review.
4. Quality assurance:
* Package works out of the box.
* No debconfage.
* No relevant Debian bugs.
* Maintenance in Debian is irrelevant, we maintain the package ourselves.
* Upstream is vigorous.
* Upstream bug tracker: (mention any particularly relevant or critical)
* Hardware: This package deals with webcams.
* There doesn't look to be a testsuite.
5. UI standards:
* User-visible strings are internationalized using standard gettext system
? Yes
* Package with translatable strings builds a PO template during package
build ? Yes
* End-user applications ship a desktop file ?  Yes
6. Standards compliance:
* Compiles with both the FHS and Debian Policy.
* Bog-standard CDBS + debhelper with simple-patchsys. No oddities.
7. Dependencies:
* All Build-Depends and Depends are in main.
8. Maintenance:
* How much maintenance is this package likely to need ? Not a lot, it gets
updated to a new upstream fairly frequently.
* Who is responsible for monitoring the quality of this package and fixing
its bugs ? Are they Ubuntu or Debian developers ? The desktop team.
9. Background information:
* What do upstream call this software ? Has it had different names in the
past ? cheese. Doesn't seem to have had any other names.
10. Internationalization:
* Are graphical applications translatable? Do they support gettext? Yes.

[Bug 396000] [NEW] [ia64] update-initramfs fails to run elilo after updating an initramfs

2009-07-05 Thread Michael Casadevall
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu karmic (but likely true of older versions), update-initramfs
fails to call elilo to update the EFI partition and properly install
the new initramfs, which can cause issues such as failure to boot when
packages like udev are updated. The kernel properly calls elilo, so this
is just an issue when the initramfs is updated separately from the
kernel packages.

(I can't file a bug with ubuntu-bug on this due to apport currently
segfaulting on ia64, but I can test any patches or provide any info by
hand)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. On ubuntu-karmic, install any package that will update the initramfs without
updating the kernel

Excepted Behavior:
The initramfs on the EFI boot partition is properly updated

Current Behavior:
The initramfs isn't udpated at all

Justification for Critical priority:
A mismatched kernel/initramfs/userland can leave the system in a non-bootable
state on ia64, which is what happened to me (udev wasn't properly updated on
the initramfs forcing me to boot the old kernel, and force-updating everything
then calling elilo)

moin (1.8.4-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes: LP: #395833
- debian/rules:
  - Add --install-layout=deb option to install everything in /usr instead
of /usr/local.
  - Remove python-xml from Recommends field, the package isn't anymore in
sys.path.
  - Demote fckeditor from Recommends to Suggests; the code was
previously embedded in moin, but it was also disabled, so there's no
reason for us to pull this in by default currently.

moin (1.8.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Frank Lin PIAT ]
  * New Upstream Version
  * Define VirtualHost port number in Apache2 examples, Closes:
bug#533062.

  [ Jonas Smedegaard ]
  * Update URL to draft DEP5 format in copyright-check.mk output.
  * Sync local patched licensecheck script with devscript 2.10.51.

[Bug 395996] [NEW] roll up/unroll window on mouse wheel in compiz

I really like the fact that using emerald I can roll up and unroll the window

I think that would be great if it was possible also when using metacity theme +

[Bug 289034] Re: Disable wallpaper on connection + restart = wallpaper gone forever

I was messing around with remote desktop before it happened.
I tried changing "Disable the wallpaper when connected" which worked fine. But
once I rebooted, I could no longer get a wallpaper at all except for about 1.5

I'm pretty sure I messed with Firefox a week or two afterwards, so you

[Bug 289034] Re: Disable wallpaper on connection + restart = wallpaper gone forever

2009-07-05 Thread Darwin Survivor
I am running Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10) 64 bit.

I don't remember doing a whole lot prior to it happening (it was a while
ago). I "may" have attempted installing Firefox 3.5, but I can't exactly
remember. Sorry.

[Bug 395956] Re: Some Japanese tags appear like question marks, others don't appear at all

2009-07-05 Thread Gnurou
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: amarok

  After upgrading from 2.1.1, most songs with tags written in Japanese
  seem to be retagged with question marks. Not all of them, but most are.
- Looking with id3tool, it appears that the tags have been rewritten by
- Amarok.
+ Contrary to what I stated initially, the tags do not seem to be
+ rewritten by amarok - only the database seems to be corrupted.
+ Rescanning the entire collection does not help.

[Bug 295172] Re: usb-creator does not work when $HOME is on NFS

2009-07-05 Thread Victor Costan
A possible fix is to write the log file to /var/log/usb-creator.log
instead of ~/.usb_creator.log if the user is root.

The fix is easy, in usbcreator/backend.py:28-29
replace with: log_file = '/var/log/usb-creator.log'

I've attached the modified file. I couldn't figure out how to generate a
patch quickly. The Code tab in launchpad let me download a .tar.gz, so
you're getting a modified file. Sorry for the inconvenience.

[Bug 381744] Re: plasma-widget-network-manager causes plasma to crash

2009-07-05 Thread GunnerGuyven
This happens for me as well. The widget crashes and takes plasma with
it. I'm adding a virtual LAN with hamachi. When this new wired LAN is
added OR removed, the widget goes down in flames.

If I disable the widget then plasma survives (so for usability sake, I
have to keep this widget off if I plan to use hamachi).

[Bug 322488] Re: gnome-terminal provides no options for disabling close this window dialog

2009-07-05 Thread StarShock
Why is this bug marked invalid? At the very least the duplicate Alt-C
mnemonic brought up is a bug. Also, I agree with a "dont ask again" or
have the option be settable in the profile. Actually, I don't mind
using gconf-editor, but I can never remember to check there...

[Bug 202457] Re: Preferences option for Removable Drives doesnt control Removable drives

2009-07-05 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately a paper cut
should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is quick
and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of this
project.

gnome- volume-manager is not in the default install anymore, hence Not a
papercut.
A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter
on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read >
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 344079] Re: cannot run gdesklets with python2.6

2009-07-05 Thread Chance Fulton
I just installed the gdesklets package on my netbook, and am definately
having the same, or a very similar issue. The status says fix released,
but its not workinghere. The version that installed had the python2.5
interpreter speified. After changing it to 2.6, i get the tilting module
error explained in an earlier post.

I have Ubuntu  9.04 kernel
Linux netbook 2.6.28-13-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2 07:57:31 UTC 2009 i686

on an asus eeepc 900a

If the fix is simply to install python2.5, then I will simply not use
this app.

thanks,

Yes, and some people have reported that mainline 2.6.28 or 2.6.28.*
also seems to be without problems. I just haven't had the time to try
to go through the Ubuntu Jaunty ext4 patch backports, which is where I
assume the problem might be. However, the problem Roland reported
could very well lead to a deadlock in the truncate path, which is very
much related to the problems are reported. The only way the problem
Roland's potential deadlock could be related to this is if there is a
bug in the Ubuntu ext4 backport such that the truncate code thinks
it's only doing a partial truncate in the case of a delete. But we it
seems pretty clear that there was a bug in the Ubuntu backports of
various ext4 patches, so the one-line patch which I suggested might
actually make things better.

[Bug 364838] Re: nautilus excessive cpu and delay opening directories

I'm still seeing this, as of latest updates on 9.04. Just asked
Nautilus to expand a 650 file directory in the same window, in list
(tree?) view. The content display drew after about 75 seconds, but
Nautilus remained hung for another 3 or 4 minutes, and whatever it was
doing redispatched to different CPUs three times. It sure seems to be
doing something seriously inappropriate it didn't a few months ago.

[Bug 395968] [NEW] kwin intermittently fails to give focus to dialog box

2009-07-05 Thread Bruce Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-window-manager

To produce bug:
1. Ensure that compositing is turned on.
2. In an application, click to open a dialog box
3. before dialog box opens, click in main application.

Result: kwin does not give focus to the dialog but restricts it to the
main application window

Expected: that Alt-tab to scroll through windows will yield focus to the
dialog box

Work-around: temporarily disable compositing.

This is a common enough user error that the current behaviour is
annoying.

updated compat-wireless stack which may help. Be sure to reboot after

If the issue remains even after installing and testing linux-backports-

wireless stack.  See http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Download for
more info. If the issue exists upstream, we'll want to work with the
upstream developers to try to get this resolved. Also, after confirming
the issue remains with the latest upstream compat-wireless stack, be
sure to also run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.
