[Bug 401188] [NEW] Failed file transfer interrupts whole installation.

2009-07-18 Thread Dainis [credobyte]
Public bug reported:

CD/Version: Ubuntu 9.04 ( Jaunty ), original CD from
http://shipit.ubuntu.com

When setup fails to copy at least 1 file, I get an error message ( about the
fact that it can't find/copy this file ) and it says clean your cd or replace
with another one, but, there's no way I could do it. When I click OK ( the
one and only choice I have there ), installation exits and Ubuntu boots into
Live OS ( LiveCD version ).
It's so annoying to do it again and again without being sure that it'll not
happen again. It SHOULD give me a choice ( like, ejecting CD and asking for a
replacement ) without interrupting installation process.

Bug: can't clean/replace my corrupted CD as upon pressing OK button,
installation exits.

[Bug 400864] Re: 9.04 PPC: r128 does not detect ATI Rage 128 on G3 iMac

2009-07-18 Thread Thomas Ribbrock
Partial SOLUTION:

xorg.conf must contain the line

BusID PCI:0:16:0

in the Device section - this will detect the ATI Rage. I had not tried this
as I assumed that the lspci (hex-)value should be correct, but apparently, xorg
expects decimal.
Hence, the installer needs to somehow come up with this.

Unfortunately, the r128 driver now crashes. I will open a new bug for
*that* problem.

[Bug 401191] [NEW] Terminator does not respect _ in grouped window name selection

2009-07-18 Thread Jonathan Davies
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: terminator

If I give a name of grouped windows a name with an underscore, it is not
respected in the name selection for other windows, instead it's replaced
by underlining the following letter.

A screen shot is attached; the bottom left window is part of the new
group bot_watch and I'm adding the bottom right window to the mix too.
The group is assigned successfully, but it's misrepresented in the
menu...

This is using karmic's latest version 0.13+ds1-1ubuntu1.

[Bug 395818] Re: Nautilus rename does not allow to paste X11 selection

2009-07-18 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

Average users rarely user terminals. This isnt an issue affecting an
average user, Hence not a papercut.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would
encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu

[Bug 134902] Re: pterm crashes with SIGFPE if 'mincho (kochi)' font selected

2009-07-18 Thread Jeff Anderson
I've noticed in the package description that ttf-kochi-mincho
development has stopped, and suggests using ttf-sazanami-mincho instead.

I've installed this font, and changed the font used from your command:

j...@tester:~$ pterm -fn '-sazanami-mincho-
medium-r-normal-*-*-120-*-*-m-*-jisx0212.1990-0'

Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load module libcanberra-gtk-module.so:
libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory
Floating point exception

Running pterm without any argument reproduces the Gtk-WARNING, so I'm ignoring
that for now. I do get a Floating point exception as you do.

Japanese fronts, from my understanding, are 'wide-format' fonts, so I
tried the pterm switch -fw instead of -fn and pterm loaded without the
Floating point exception.

Since my language is set as English, it didnt load Japanese characters.
Could you try using -fw with kochi, and with sazanami?

Thanks.

[Bug 401193] [NEW] Segmentation fault on file dialog in 5.4.0-4ubuntu1 on Jaunty

2009-07-18 Thread gw0
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eagle

I installed on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) that uses Gnome 2.26.1 the packages
eagle (5.4.0-4ubuntu1) and eagle-data from Karmic. Most of the program
works, but it seems that there is a missing installation dependency,
because every time I click on an option that should open a file
selection dialog (it tries to use the one from Gnome), it crashes with
Segmentation fault.

On such an installation the crash can occur if you open a new Project,
add a new Schematic and click on menu Library and Use.

I think lynx shouldn't only be a suggestion but a dependency for wajig
: see commands.py or wajig.py, wajig uses lynx, and if you don't have it
some functionalities will output an error (wajig whichpkg file for
instance).

[Bug 401194] [NEW] system won't suspend after the first suspend/resume cycle

2009-07-18 Thread Mike Hurley
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: Karmic current as of around 11:30PM Central Time July 17
X setup: XFCE session spawned from GDM (mythbuntu)
Kernel: 2.6.31-3-generic amd64

1. Select the Shutdown menu item
2. Click on Suspend
3. System suspends correctly
4. Press a keyboard key to bring it back up
5. Once you have keyboard/mouse control back, select the Shutdown menu item
again
6. Click on Suspend again

ACTUAL
7. Nothing happens

EXPECTED
7. The system again successfully suspends

(The following I tried to see if the system was in an OK state)
8. Within a few seconds of realizing nothing happened, bring up the shutdown
menu again and click Restart
9. The system correctly restarts

The same behavior happens if I use the command line sudo pm-suspend
instead.

[Bug 400682] Re: No sound after upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic

2009-07-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Hmmm, still no sound. pkill pulseaudio wasn't good enough cause pulseaudio kept
restarting. I saw this in .xsession-errors:
** (gnome-volume-control-applet:5093): WARNING **: Connection failed,
reconnecting...

** (gnome-volume-control-applet:5093): WARNING **: Unable to get default
source

I did have a volume control applet open and then one in the notification area.
I removed the applet, then fiddled with the notification area one. Eventually
it went away and I got this in .xsession-errors:
** (gnome-volume-control:18676): WARNING **: Unable to find stream for bar
Assertion 'pa_atomic_load((c)-_ref) = 1' failed at
pulse/ext-stream-restore.c:202, function pa_ext_stream_restore_write().
Aborting.

At this point I could kill pulseaudio and it wouldn't restart. So I did:
$ speaker-test -c2 -Dplug:front

speaker-test 1.0.20

Playback device is plug:front
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise

was set buffer_size = 16384
 0 - Front Left
 1 - Front Right
Time per period = 5.632618

...

After this, I noticed that pulseaudio had restarted itself. I checked
/var/log/user.log and see:
Jul 18 15:56:23 severus pulseaudio[18671]: alsa-source.c: ALSA woke us up to
read new data from the device, but there was actually nothing to read!
Jul 18 15:56:23 severus pulseaudio[18671]: alsa-source.c: Most likely this is a
bug in the ALSA driver 'snd_hda_intel'. Please report this issue to the ALSA
developers.
Jul 18 15:56:23 severus pulseaudio[18671]: alsa-source.c: We were woken up with
POLLIN set -- however a subsequent snd_pcm_avail() returned 0 or another value
 min_avail.

So this seems it is likely it, but I don't know how to proceed. Please
advise. Thanks!

sudo nano /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/initramfs-tools/modules and add sky2
sudo nano /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions and
add sky2 at the end of this line:
r8169 s2io sis900 skge slhc smc911x starfire sky2 \
sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 update-initramfs -u
sudo ltsp-update-kernels
and problem solved!

My server use r8169 and a RTL8139, clients using rtl8139, i put the
module 8139too and r8169 in the modules file and the problem persist.

[Bug 241604] Re: Maximum zoom in Evince is 400%

2009-07-18 Thread Svenskmand
Just to correct you saying:

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would
encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu
9.10.

I ran Evince in resolution 1920x1080 and was not able to read a simple
scientific article as the zoom level of 400 % was so small, this
effectively renders Evince useless on any system running at a
ressolution of 1920x1080. This was also the reason that I switched to
Okular as it supports a bigger zooming, so I can read articles that span
the full width of my screen.

[Bug 398777] Re: No sound on computer,HDA Intel STAC92XXanalog

2009-07-18 Thread Shane
Okay,I managed to get it going on this laptop with the help of a friend
online,who is experienced in Linux.
So I thought I would let you peoples know.

Once again this is an HP pavilion dv6 1038ca laptop,With the HDA Intel
STAC 92XX analog not working with sound on Mint 7 or Ubuntu 9.04.

We did this to get it working.

First I installed this,from these forums,from another thread,posted by
Mark,helping someone else.

Mark Rijckenberg said on 2009-06-26:
Hi,
In System/Administration/Users and Groups , make sure that your user and the
root user are members of the following groups:
 pulse
 pulse-access
 pulse-rt
Then try this procedure:
1. copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
2. and add these lines to the end of the file:
# Keep snd-pcsp from being loaded as first soundcard
options snd-pcsp index=-2
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv5
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
3. Then navigate to SystemPreferencesSound and change everything to ALSA
4. reboot and retest sound
5. If sound still does not work, then replace hp-dv5 with one of the following
4 model options:
 STAC92HD71B*
   ref
   dell-m4-1
   dell-m4-2
   dell-m4-3
6. You will have to reboot and retest sound after every model option change to
the alsa-base.conf file
Regards,
Mark )))

I did not have to go further than step 4.

Then we did this

http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2009/05/09/upgrade-alsa-1020-on-
ubuntu-jaunty-904/

After rebooting, system sound worked. On start up I got sound for log in
and after had sound as well.

However,Rhythmbox doesnt seem to work and also a music player from my
local radio station wont either, and we will work on getting those going
and I will report back on here.

I hope this helps with a solution to this problem in getting a fix,as
well as help anyone else with the same problem with the same
laptop(sound card) or other wise.

[Bug 398392] Re: system hangs when reading from multiple VT6421 PCI sata cards

2009-07-18 Thread Marcello Romani
Ok, I think I found the problem.

In the BIOS settings, neither ACPI nor ACPI APIC were enabled.
Enabling ACPI caused the system not to boot, due to bug 11941 I think, so I let
it disabled.
I enabled the flag ACPI APIC and did some stress tests... now the system
doesn't hang anymore.

The file /proc/interrupts now reads as follows:

   CPU0
  0:185 IO-APIC-edge timer
  1: 1334 IO-APIC-edge i8042

 23:2688052 IO-APIC-fasteoi eth0
NMI: 0 Non-maskable interrupts
LOC: 288082 Local timer interrupts
RES: 0 Rescheduling interrupts
CAL: 0 Function call interrupts
TLB: 0 TLB shootdowns
SPU: 0 Spurious interrupts
ERR: 0
MIS: 0

Quite different from the previous one :-)

So in the end the problem seems to be caused by not having enabled the
IO-APIC in the BIOS settings.

debian/rules to install the upstream one. in the gdm changelog. Looking at the
new /etc/gdm/Xsession and comparing it with the old one, that's the reason for
it.

[Bug 401202] [NEW] Resolver ignores ndots option

2009-07-18 Thread Martin Stepanek
Public bug reported:

Regardless of ndots option in /etc/resolv.conf, when NXDOMAIN is returned from
the DNS server then resolver always try another attempt with the original name
extended by what is in search option.
For example, if you're looking for very.long.url.nowhere and there is a line
search ubuntu.com in resolv.conf you will get addres of server
very.long.url.nowhere.ubuntu.com if such exists. It is incorrect, it should
occurs only for urls having less that ndots option dots in its name.

[Bug 401140] Re: cups: no printer output (hp 1020)

2009-07-18 Thread Jonas Haraldsson
Now I have run hp-plugin -i and downloaded the firmware form HP.
At the end of the installation the printer made some sounds, but when I print a
page nothing happens.

I ran the printer troubleshooter again and this time a test page was
actually printed, only it was printed half size (as when you print 2up
90 degrees rotated).

I attach the new output from the troubleshooter.

[Bug 313642] Re: [needs packaging] miniupnpd

2009-07-18 Thread Jürgen Kreileder
@komputes: No, miniupnpd is a UPnP and NAT-PMP traversal daemon.
Apples' AirPort and TimeCapsule run such a daemon too, not miniupnpd
though.

(Ubuntu users can already make port forwarding changes on Apple's time
capsule. Applications like Pidgin and Transmission speak UPnP and NAT-
PMP, they make appropriate mappings while running. If you want to make
permanent port forwardings you better use Apple's AirPort Utility.)

[Bug 400047] Re: Partitioner should be more clear/specific

2009-07-18 Thread mac_v
The same wording is used in the present Karmic installer too.

I agree with the OP about the *First option being unclear* . *Only the
First option* needs to be re-worded .

Maybe: Install beside the existing OS [ this allows you to choose , at
each startup , which OS you want to use ]

But the remaining 2 options are clear and simple the way they are now.

[Bug 379123] Re: Ctrl+V shortcut does not work anymore

I experience the problem too, although only the shortcut does not work
only the first time I press it, if I press the shortcut twice, it works
fine. Usually it happens when I switch from some other application to
nautilus and press the shortcut, afterwards, as long as I work with
nautilus, everything works perfectly. But after working with some other
application again for some time, the issue is likely to occur again.

[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize Audiophile 2496

2009-07-18 Thread Florian Zeitz
The reason pulseaudio right now doesn't work with this card is that it expects
a front device that has only 2 channels.
A possible fix for this is changing it's definition to:
ICE1712.pcm.front.0 {
@args [ CARD ]
@args.CARD {
type string
}
type route
ttable.0.0 1
ttable.1.1 1
slave.pcm {
type hw
card $CARD
}
slave.format S32_LE
slave.channels 10
}
in /usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf
This is taken from RedHat's and pulseaudio's bugtracker and the alsa list, I
can't find the relevant thread/bugs right now though...

[Bug 401205] [NEW] Split transaction won't allow an account

2009-07-18 Thread Lee
Public bug reported:

I am trying to use the split transaction feature to load my pay
statements. I was using 0.9.2 and just upgraded to 0.9.3.cvs. Now when I
try and enter the money taken from my pay for my 401K Account, the split
transaction window wants to put that in a category. It's not a category,
it's an account. I didn't have any problem before installing .9.3.cvs.

In addition, I can't change the date on the edit field for any
transaction. If I try, the enter option grays out.

Is it possible to roll back to a previous version of the program?

[Bug 364745] Re: blogtk crashes on start

2009-07-18 Thread JayReding
I'd like to restart BloGTK 2.0 development this fall if possible. The
Glade file is going to have to be fixed, as it crashes the latest
versions of Glade. There's a number of functions left to be completed,
and some backend stuff for offline editing support. Then the usual
amount of bug hunting and compatibility fixes.

If anyone wants to take a crack at submitting patches, feel free to do
so. If there's anyone who would be willing to package and maintain the
release, that would be great, as packaging is not something I was
especially good at.

I will probably start taking a look at things in August and move from
there.

[Bug 155930] Re: Unmark all clears the package list (!)

2009-07-18 Thread Emilien
I confirm that I am experiencing this bug in Ubuntu 9.04, I have version
0.62.5ubuntu3 installed. And I have this even with All selected.

Once clicking on unmark all, I expect to see the list that I had in
front of me displayed again, only without the eventual selections that I
had made. This is not happening, as the list is just plain empty.

[Bug 400877] Re: ¿cual es mi nombre?

2009-07-18 Thread Arnaudus
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

python-compizconfig (0.8.2-0ubuntu1)

Cube worked on 0:0 and 0:1

Settings for 0:1 Screen 1 were applied to 0:0

The number of desktops on 0:0 was set to four.

The number of desktops on 0:1 was two and could not be changed.

When Settings manager was opened from menu on 0:1 it would open on 0:0.

When setting manager was opened from 0:1 using Alt-F2-ccsm. it would
open on 0:1 and the setting would apply to 0:1

[Bug 125609] Re: X is required to build irqbalance

2009-07-18 Thread Chris Jones
Jeff: I appreciate your efforts to keep the Ubuntu bug database free of stale
bugs, but I think it would be best to investigate the bugs rather than touching
them regardless. It's pretty easy to verify that xutils-dev is still a build
depend of irqbalance in Karmic and that this bug is thus unchanged.
(I suspect Jeff will never see this because he's not subscribed to this bug,
which I also think is a mistake when touching a bug)
