[Bug 402181] [NEW] gzopen64 implicitly converted to pointer

2009-07-21 Thread LaMont Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libtrace3

In 3.0.6-1:
Function `gzopen64' implicitly converted to pointer at libtraceio-zlib.c:53

Our automated build log filter[1] detected the problem(s) above that will
likely cause your package to segfault on 64-bit architectures (where the
size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer.)

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Since use of implicitly converted pointers is always (eventually
and/or itermittantly) fatal to the application, they are errors.
Please correct them for your next upload.

[Bug 402179] [NEW] utm2ll missing in binary package

2009-07-21 Thread Ekkart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: drawmap

Hello,

it seems that the binary of utm2ll is missing in the package (of all versions,
I use Hardy, drawmap_2.5-3). The source is available and the inverse conversion
(ll2utm) is present also as binary.
It would be nice to provide an update for completeness.

[Bug 391190] Re: Font size is too large by default

2009-07-21 Thread Max Bowsher
Having installed this fix, I would say that the font size is now too
small by default - before I would have described it as well proportioned
for its purpose, now it is excessively small. I note that the motivation
for the change here was to comply with specs, not responding to user
complaints from notify-osd as deployed in Jaunty.

I would suggest that making the body text *smaller* than the default
application font size, for a bubble which the user must read quickly
before it disappears, is a poor choice.

Perhaps switching to 1.2x/1.0x would be a good first step.

[Bug 307377] Re: Firefox 3.0 needs to show 'Icons and Text' by default in the toolbar

2009-07-21 Thread Brett Alton
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Since Dapper, Ubuntu has removed the text from Firefox's toolbar to save
space on 800x600 resolution monitors (or so I once read).

- I think to be consistent with the rest of GNOME (especially with System
- > Preferences > Appearance > Interface > Toolbar Button Labels), Firefox
- should show 'Text and Icons' in its toolbar by default. Why? I believe
- it is less confusing to new uses who do not understand what the icons
- mean fully. They need text re-enforcement to remind them that the blue,
- 270 degree icon means refresh. Not everyone knows this off the bat or
- remembers it every day.
+ Meanwhile, this goes against how the rest of the GNOME applications
+ appear in Ubuntu (the preferences are set at: System > Preferences >
+ Appearance > Interface > Toolbar Button Labels), Firefox should show
+ 'Text and Icons' in its toolbar by default. Why? I believe it is less
+ confusing to new uses who do not understand what the icons mean fully.
+ They need text re-enforcement to remind them that the blue, 270 degree
+ icon means refresh. Not everyone knows this off the bat or remembers it
+ every day.

Plus, according to "System > Preferences > Appearance > Interface >
Toolbar Button Labels", all programs should have text below the icons.

If saving space in Firefox is an absolute must, then why not get rid of
- the "Bookmarks Toolbar"? I think you need higher intelligence to use the
- "Bookmarks Toolbar" than to use the forward and back button, the reload
- button and the home button and I do not believe it is safe to assume.
- Let the user find the "Bookmarks Toolbar" if they want to use it. Most
- people I know that use bookmarks often know how to use an internet
- browser enough to be able to re-enable the "Bookmarks Toolbar".
+ the "Bookmarks Toolbar"? I think more advanced users use the "Bookmarks
+ Toolbar" than to use the forward and back button, the reload button and
+ the home button and I do not believe it is safe to assume that everyone
+ knows what those icons mean. Let the user find the "Bookmarks Toolbar"
+ if they want to use it. Most people I know that use bookmarks often know
+ how to use an internet browser enough to be able to re-enable the
+ "Bookmarks Toolbar".

Lastly, with Firefox 3.0's new features, you can access bookmarks by
searching them in the "Address Bar" and save them using the new "star
button". The "awesome bar", I think is what they call it. This means
that bookmarks get double the attention and the buttons that actually
  run Firefox gets less.
-
- Sorry, I know this is a mixture of arguments (intelligence of the user,
- compliance with GNOME), but this is just coming from a computer
- technician who works with teachers and school staff every day.

[Bug 402188] [NEW] gvim complains about "gtk_form_set_static_gravity: assertion `static_gravity_supported' failed" in the shell it's started from

2009-07-21 Thread Martijn vdS
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim

When running gvim (from vim-gnome) from a gnome-terminal, the terminal
will get spammed with the following message:

** (gvim:5944): CRITICAL **: gtk_form_set_static_gravity: assertion
`static_gravity_supported' failed

A few times on startup, and then every time a new window is opened
inside vim (for example, when using :split)

gvim works fine otherwise, it's just annoying to get these warnings.

** Affects: vim (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

However, you are not able to open a particular movie file. It seems that you
need to install a particular plug-in for playing that file, but facing
problem installing the plug-in.
Could you please mention the type of movie file
(mpeg/mp4/wmv/3gp/avi/anyother) that you are trying to open?

You can do the above in the terminal by following these steps:
Click Applications ==> Accessories ==> Terminal
In the window that opens shall contain a command prompt.
Type "sudo dpkg --configure -a" in there and press enter
It shall ask for a password.
Type the password that you provided while installing Ubuntu, and press
enter.
This should clear the mess created while installing the plug-in and pave way
for fresh reinstall of the plug-in.

By the way, you did not mention about the event that gave you the error:
GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error.

I tried to hack the flashplugin-installer_10.0.22.87ubuntu2_amd64.deb so
that it won't try to update-alternativ those things. Now at least one
can install the package and uninstall it afterwards. Once flashplugin-
nonfree is installed flash works again. I'll append the hacked 64-bit
package, the i386 package can probably hacked the same way.

Oh, first I tried to only alter VARIANTS to VARIANTS="mozilla firefox
xulrunner midbrowser xulrunner-addons" - but that did not work...

[Bug 402194] [NEW] empathy inconsistency in accounts manager

2009-07-21 Thread liamdawe
Public bug reported:

To quote gnomeuser

The MSN implementation seems to have password first and then account
email, breaking consistency with pretty much any other application even
game that has a login and seems confusing and strange.

"Oh it gets better than that. It depends on the protocol. GoogleTalk has
the familiar user/password but msn via haze has pass/user (and msn via
butterfly has user/pass).

I think this kind of consistency problem is a good target for a
papercut, it's probably nothing but a one liner to fix."

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Wow. How do you know? If you really do know, then you should be able
to tell me in what piece of software the trouble lies. Please do so.

I'm not sure it's a bug in one of the players myself (yes, I think it's
OK to file against all of them for triaging, not least because this is
where others will find the ticket). But I'm not certain it's in the
driver, either. I just can't imagine how the thumbnailing would fix a
driver issue. I'm rather speculating it's an issue in a lib used by all
of the players.

2009-07-21 Thread ShawnJGoff
I much prefer the having the button to switch between breadcrumbs and
text url. We're talking about getting rid of redundancy, if we have
both, it's just plain horrible. If you use the button that switches the
breadcrumbs to the text, it stays that way when you open nautilus next
time. Also, if the breadcrumb buttons are changed as discussed above, it
will be able to display more path.

[Bug 346788] Re: Rapache freezes when creating a new virtual host

2009-07-21 Thread spartan.the
Thanks everybody for helping to solve problem!

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on Amd64 box, installed apache2 using Synaptic
package manager. I didn't find rapache installed as it was described in
youtube video describing how to install apache2 on Ubuntu 8.04. That was
not a big issue and I installed rapache using Synaptic again. But
rapache could do any read-only operation (display config and log files)
but not write operation. It froze any time I tried to save any changes
(not only creating a new virtual host). Seems the problem is due to
"smart root account" in Ubuntu (similar implemented in Windows Vista)
asking for password every time you want to do an administrative task.

So here are step by step instructions to fix a problem for newbees like
me.

1. Make sure rapache version is 0.7 (rapache about box)

2. Check file we need to fix is there using Nautilus (aka Places, aka
File explorer):

3. Open for editing using "Text editor" (gedit)

4. Goto line 80 and add new lines as TAC one described:

After lines:
def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
super (MainWindow, self).__init__ (*args, **kwargs)
Master.register(self)

and before lines
self.denormalized_virtual_hosts = {}
self.plugin_manager = PluginManager()
self.apache = Apache2()

insert lines:
# HACK : work around bug @see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/rapache/+bug/346788
if not Shell.command.ask_password(): sys.exit(1)
# HACK END

NB! Carefully add 8 spaces before new lines because proper identationis
important to Python.

5. Save file. Not so easy again: Ubuntu will prevent you from overriding
"system file".
Select File | Save As...
Save in your Documents folder

6. Replace original file with modified one making a backup of original file in
your Documents folder:
In terminal type following commands:
cd ~/Documents
sudo bash
{enter password}
cp /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/RapacheGtk/RapacheGui.py
./RapacheGui.py.original
cp ./RapacheGui.py /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/RapacheGtk/RapacheGui.py

The End.

[Bug 400484] Re: unable to show the contents of my kernel keyring

I am suspicious that this is a side effect of the commit below. This

I found earlier reports from 9.04, so I guess it isn't a regression in
Karmic, perhaps just rare.

It seems ready to be sent upstream.

[Bug 402199] [NEW] Installing "Qalculate" Library & Plasmoid in KDE 4.2.4

2009-07-21 Thread Christian
Public bug reported:

Hey guys,
I'm using Kubuntu Jaunty with KDE 4.2.4 and trying to install the "Qalculate"
Plasmoid per compiling. I downloaded the "libqalculate" File and when i try to
install the needed qalculate library the configuring aborts with following:
checking for CLN - version >= 1.1.0... no
*** The cln-config script installed by CLN could not be found
*** If CLN was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the CLN_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to cln-config.
configure: error: No suitable installed version of CLN could be found.

I'm perplexed now because i did not use any prefix?!

The Package "libcln5" is installed too!

Cheers

[Bug 396219] Re: kvm guests hang after startup

2009-07-21 Thread Alexander Atanasov
If you are using libvirt
create /etc/libvirt/qemu/kvm-32
---snip---
#!/bin/bash
exec kvm -cpu qemu32,-nx `echo $*`
---end-
use qemu64 for 64bit.

Then modify domains to use the wrapper script
virsh edit
change emulator in device section to:
/etc/libvirt/qemu/kvm-32

It may be a good idea to ship with a wrapper and a config file to pass extra
options to kvm
from libvirt, since it's not easy to pass them now.
