[Bug 396792] Re: "gvba" does not write the battery file until the game is closed

2009-08-10 Thread vocx
Can I at least get an explanation as to why that is the desired behavior?
Are there any links to a discussion upstream?

As I tried to explain, the essential problem is that "gvba" doesn't save the
game batteries when it should:
if "gvba" doesn't exit cleanly, or you reset the game
within the emulator, the battery file is never created
or updated properly.

I find this to be a usability problem, with potential for data loss.

Think about a word processor analogy, I expect my document to be saved
at the instant I click the button that says "save", not when I close the
entire office application.

[Bug 312898] Re: libxxx-dev should be installable with libxxx-unstripped

2009-08-10 Thread benchang
Hi,

I'm not a dev or maintainer, but have an end user example case. From my
reading of this thread my understanding is that it'll be fixed in Karmic
- woder if you could tell me if that's correct.

Kdenlive (video editor) requires libav*-unstripped in order to render and
export videos
OpenCV (computer vision library) depends on libav* (stripped), so you cannot
have both packages installed.

Is that now fixed in the ffmpeg-debian package, or is it rather that it
should be fixed by the maintainers of one or the other or both of the
example packages?

thanks.

Thank you for your help so far, I do not believe this problem to be
solved. I will try all of the suggestions and see what happens. I will
keep you apprised of any developments.

I would like to reiterate, that Ekiga on the dual boot system with Linux
8.10 worked as expected, I would always hear myself talk in every echo
test I did. No physical changes have been made to my computer systems,
except for trading the CRT monitors for LCD monitors.

My own test of the router will be this: I will connect the dual boot
computer directly to the modem and try again... see what happens.

So for now, until next time we meet,

Emanuel

[Bug 411249] Re: libpam-krb5 default configuration does not allow login for LDAP users

2009-08-10 Thread Philipp Kaluza
in your setup, the shadow information is interpreted by pam_unix (not
pam_ldap), but, assuming you have no local user, still comes from LDAP (via
nss_ldap). Please check if your user has the auxiliary objectclass
shadowAccount configured, and check the associated attributes (specifically
shadowLastChange, shadowMax and shadowExpire).
If I had to venture a guess I would say that changing the password via
kerberos works correctly, but then libnss-ldap does not have enough permissions
to update shadowLastChange, which fails silently, but causes pam_unix to prompt
for another password update. Depending on your exact Kerberos configuration, if
your kerberos passwords are stored in the LDAP server anyhow, you might want to
consider pam_ldap for password updates. If you do, make sure TLS or SSL works
correctly between the user-facing hosts and the LDAP server.

[Bug 411688] Re: pulseaudio floods network with multicast packets

2009-08-10 Thread Oded Arbel
If I use padevchooser to specifically choose the internal audio as both
default sink and default source, the network traffic is reduces somewhat
but not by a lot (about 10%~20%).

I can cause pulseaudio to stop flooding the network completely by
disabling the rtp-send module using gconf. I'll keep it disabled for now
(as I do not have a real need at the moment for audio over the network)
unless you want me to debug something.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-08-10 Thread David Siegel
Controversial and non-trivial; not a paper cut.

The proposal was to allow renaming by clicking on a file, not to copy
Windows's implementation exactly -- if the implementation is poor in
Windows, that doesn't mean it would be in Nautilus. For example, Mac OS
X allows click to rename, and I've never heard a Mac user complain that
this feature ever does anything but allow users to rename files when and
only when they intend to do so. Please do not argue against a feature by
pointing at the same feature implemented poorly somewhere else; we
should take it as an opportunity for us to do well what they do poorly,
and outperform the others in a tangible, measurable way. Throwing up our
hands and basically saying "we'll never get it right if they can't" is
quite unhelpful.

then later started with the alsa-sink rewind stuff, which I'm pretty

[Bug 257895] Re: bzr: ERROR: not well-formed (invalid token)

2009-08-10 Thread Eric Siegerman
FWIW (which might not be much, this close to blessing 2a as the default
format)...

Attached is a simple reproduction of what I think is the same problem,
using bzr.dev r4596 (which is approximately 1.18rc1, not sure exactly).
I'll summarize here. (The attachment contains the requested xml_string
and locals() output from the debugger, along with a stack trace.)

To reproduce, create a branch (either standalone or shared-repo is
fine), add file called "a^Gb" (literal CTRL-G character), and commit.

pack-0.92 and 1.14 demonstrate the problem; 2a does *not*; I haven't
tried other formats.

Once you've got a branch in this state, "check" fails. "log" succeeds,
but "log -v" fails.

Importantly, "upgrade --2a" also fails. Thus, the fact that 2a itself
doesn't suffer from the problem is little consolation to people with
older branches that do suffer from it.

Here's a clue to a possible fix: "co" fails, but if you remove the file
from your working tree (assuming, of course, that you haven't already
"remove-tree"ed the latter), "revert" *succeeds* in restoring it. So
there appears to be at least one code path that avoids the bug.

Bugs 267670, 346471, and 407303 look superficially like duplicates of
this, but I'm not confident enough of that to mark them as such.

[Bug 342054] Re: 'eucalyptus-cc stop' does not kill the eucalyptus dhcpd3 process

Several times when shutting down the CC and Cloud init scripts I've been left
with the dhcpd3 process owning one of the listening 877x sockets (according to

[Bug 378240] Re: Please merge xen-3.4 (3.4.0-2) from debian unstable

I'm strongly opposed to merging in this package from Debian; I'd rather
continue parallel development.

In my limited experience, I've been pretty dissatisfied with how the
Debian maintainer has been handling bugs. For instance, notice that the
package in Debian is currently being built without ioemu support, which
means that there's no hardware virtualization support.

[Bug 411691] [NEW] many Exception... "update.locale file doesn't exist" in console

2009-08-10 Thread skierpage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I installed Thunderbird in Kubuntu 9.04 amd x64 from your PPA and the Ubuntu
packaging machinery has been updating it OK via KPackageKit. I'm currently
running
Thunderbird 3b4 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3pre)
Gecko/20090809 Shredder/3.0b4pre

Thunderbird works OK but every few minutes the same error appears in the
Error Console:

Error: [Exception... "update.locale file doesn't exist in either the XCurProcD
or GreD directories" nsresult: "0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)"
location: "JS frame ::
file:///usr/lib/thunderbird-3.0b4pre/components/nsUpdateService.js :: getLocale
:: line 549"  data: no]
Source File: file:///usr/lib/thunderbird-3.0b4pre/components/nsUpdateService.js
Line: 549

indeed there is no update.locale file in /usr/lib/thunderbird-3.0b4pre,
the only file starting with "update' is components/update.xpt. However,
I started with my existing Thunderbird 3b2 Windows profile, and in Edit
> Preferences > Advanced > Config Editor there are a lot of settings for
app.update. But there is no Help > Check for Updates in the Thunderbird
UI in Kubuntu. So perhaps the glitch is that your Thunderbird build
does not expect to perform Check for Updates but about.config settings
can make it check anyway, leading to errors.

What I expect to happen is never to see errors about update if the
Ubuntu Thunderbird package isn't doing them.

FWIW the identical error message is in the Mozilla bug report
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=507719 , but in a very
different situation (Firefox in WinCE).

[Bug 409559] Re: version 1.6.0_15 is available

2009-08-10 Thread Irihapeti
The repository version of Firefox gets upgraded each time Mozilla puts
out a new one, even on older versions such as Hardy. I think that the
same thing should happen with Java.

There has already been one update to Java in Hardy, from 1.6.07 to
1.6.14, so it's not impossible.

[Bug 411688] [NEW] pulseaudio floods network with multicast packets

2009-08-10 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Since a karmic update last week, when pulseaudio is running it floods
the network with multicast packets, to the point where the wireless
interface I'm using is so flooded that no other network traffic can be
transfered.

[Bug 411692] [NEW] stopping eucalyptus may lose the database

2009-08-10 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

I created a new user and in the course of changing other configuration items
restarted both the -cc and -cloud init scripts a number of times. At one point
the cloud came back with my non-admin user gone.
nekro on #eucalyptus suggested this may be down to the init script having a 5
second timeout after which it kill -9's the process, leading to potential data
loss.

[Bug 411687] [NEW] 20-storage-methods.fdi does not provide ext4 accepted mount options

2009-08-10 Thread OlivierP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

I have an external usd HDD drive formatted as ext4. I want to have it mount
with noatime, nodiratime as additional options, and data=writeback as an
override of the default data=ordered
When these options are added, either throuh the Volume's properties in nautilus
or through gconf-edit, remounting the drive fails with "invalid mount option".
gnome-mount -p olive_book -v fails also.

I have found that /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/20-storage-methods.fdi
does not contain a section for the accepted ext4 mount options.
As a workaround, I have added the following block (copied the ext3 one &
changed the key/comment.

acl

invoke-rc.d hal restart and now I can mount the volume as I expect.

[Bug 410379] Re: Tomcat security configuration error prevents proper logging

2009-08-10 Thread DawnH
I also installed a clean default installation of tomcat 5.5 on Ubuntu
Server 8.0.4.3 LTS on 8/7/09. I was seeing the same exact behavior, plus
webapp I deployed was not starting. I have come up with a workaround,
but I do not recommend it for a production environment due to it's
hammer approach. A better solution would be much appreciated.

1. Stop the Tomcat server
2. Add the following to /etc/tomcat5.5/policy.d/50user.policy

grant {
 permission java.security.AllPermission;
  };

3. Restart the Tomcat server
4. Check /var/log/tomcat55 and you'll see the logs

As you can see, this is a hammer approach to the permissions issue, but
I was unable to determine which exact permissions needed to be opened in
order to get logging to work.

[Bug 411681] [NEW] Draging to resize, or double-click to full screen makes Movie Player dissapear

2009-08-10 Thread Crosscheck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem closes while attempting to resize or full screen the window; via
drag or double-click. However, on occasion it will squash an anamorphic
widescreen movie into a 4:3 full screen (everything is tall & thin).
Attempts to resize either remain squashed or close Totem altogether.

This only happens with actual DVD discs. I've been playing movies I
ripped to .avi (xvid & .AC3) without error.

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and am a total noob...working on converting from
"Windoze" (advanced with that, so any translative language would be much
appreciated).

I followed some forum threads about installing codecs and upgrading
programs.

Please advise...

[Bug 411528] Re: evolution bad symlink in man1

2009-08-10 Thread Ryan
Why would you mark the bug incomplete? I provided the error, the
directory, and the output - the rest would be for the fix.

>From man maddb:
  : ignoring bogus filename
Themay or may not be a valid manual page but its
name is invalid. This is usually due to a manual page with sectional extension
being put in manual page section .

If you compare the other file names in the directory, I suspect the issue it is
complaining about is ending with .5.gz vs no number, or .1 for being in a man1
directory. To test that theory (didn't know I had to do that part to submit a
bug :) ):
# ln -s evolution.1.gz evolution-2.25.5.1.gz
# ls -l evo*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1157 2009-07-27 10:48 evolution.1.gz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   14 2009-08-10 15:00 evolution-2.25.5.1.gz ->
evolution.1.gz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   14 2009-07-27 16:21 evolution-2.25.5.gz ->
evolution.1.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 925 2009-07-27 10:48 evolution-addressbook-export.1.gz

# mandb -c
Processing manual pages under /usr/share/man...
Updating index cache for path `/usr/share/man/man1'. Wait...mandb: warning:
/usr/share/man/man1/evolution-2.25.5.gz: ignoring bogus filename
...
Does /not/ complain about evolution-2.25.5.1.gz - so it looks like the last
digit in the symlink is what makes it invalid for mandb.

[Bug 411659] Re: instruction calls for something that does not exist

2009-08-10 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.
