[Bug 320977] Re: Installation: "Prepare disk space" w/ 4 disks = missing "Quit", "Back", and "Forward" buttons
There is a similar bug #364617 - the width of Ubiquity's window increases too much in partitioning step if computer has other operating system(s) installed. That bug is because of text "This will delete ${SYSTEMS} and install ${RELEASE}." (debconf template ubiquity/text/part_format_warning). ${SYSTEMS} is often very long text, especially in notebook computers with "recovery partition", where is one more "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" or "Windows Vista (loader)" installed. When you will fix this bug, please also fix bug #364617 -- Installation: "Prepare disk space" w/ 4 disks = missing "Quit", "Back", and "Forward" buttons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/320977 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 413933] [NEW] random hangs of karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Karmic was working well on my X61s laptop last week, but updates in the last few days seem to have introduced a problem where it locks up hard: neither ctrl-alt-f1 nor sysrq have any response. I've seen this about four times in the last three days. [Bug 354995] Re: Brasero Checksum Error
I also confirm this bug. I manually ran md5sum on the contents of the burned disc, and also again on the contents of the ISO after mounting it through the local loop back device. The checksums file by file are fine. I have attached my session log. ** Attachment added: "Brasero session log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30351814/brasero-session.log -- Brasero Checksum Error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/354995 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 364617] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 installer's width increases too much in partitioning step if computer has other OS installed
** Summary changed: - Ubuntu 9.04rc installer exceeds size of low resolution screen once the partitioner is started + Ubuntu 9.04 installer's width increases too much in partitioning step if computer has other OS installed ** Description changed: - My computer has a nVidia card and boots from CD to low-res. The - installer went over twice the width of my screen when the partitioner - started due to the number of partitions I have (I think). HOWEVER, I am - not sure. Regardless, it made installation at that point rather - difficult and had I not known to use the ALT+Left Mouse to drag the - window, I would have been unable to continue the installation. + Ubuntu 9.04 installer's window width increases too much in partitioning + step if computer has other operating system(s) installed. This is + because of text "This will delete ${SYSTEMS} and install ${RELEASE}." + (debconf template ubiquity/text/part_format_warning). ${SYSTEMS} often + is very long text, especially in notebook computers with "recovery + partition", where is one more "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" or + "Windows Vista (loader)" installed. - This is a serious bug for those that have my hardware and are NEW to - Ubuntu. + This problem is especially visible when LiveCD starts in 800x600 screen resolution (this often happens with NVIDIA graphic cards or Asus EeePC netbooks) and has other operating systems installed. Ubuntu installer's window expands over twice the width of my screen when in the partitioning step. + For simple user it's impossible to continue the installation, because button "Forward" is not visible :( + It's a serious bug for those that are NEW to Ubuntu. - I knew I would be OK once I installed because of the nVidia driver - download option. + For the majority of real situation this bug can be fixed by simply + adding line break after installed operating system list ({SYSTEMS}) - + I've fixed partitioning step window's width problem by applying this + patch against debconf templates: + + Name: ubiquity/text/part_format_warning + -Description: This will delete ${SYSTEMS} and install ${RELEASE}. + +Description: This will delete ${SYSTEMS} \n and install ${RELEASE}. -- Ubuntu 9.04 installer's width increases too much in partitioning step if computer has other OS installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/364617 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling
I just wanted to give a use-case/scenario where this is disruptive. First of all, keep in mind that all Apple laptops only have one button so the only option besides using two-finger click right clicks is to bind keys with xmodmap (kind of an annoying necessity and not good for user experience). Now, the scenario. There are two major cases where this can just drive you crazy. Trying to right-click a link on a webpage, e.g. to save to disk or open or copy link location. The other really annoying situation is when trying to right-click a misspelled word for spell check suggestions. This is a major annoyance, it leads to a very frustrating experience and while it does not stop my system from being usable it is incredibly aggravating. I think the key points for solving this are: 1) "The jump happens during the context switch from one-finger pointing to two-finger pointing." --Kirby 2) "There was an update to the OS X driver that fixed this situation for Apple. I guess that it detects the second finger and programmatically ignores the first few scrollticks, thereby 'deadening' the output. This is what we need." -- Richard Cavell -- Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381884 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 359363] Re: Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
I believe I have the same bug. I am running Xubuntu 9.04 on a Malata PC-81006. "xinput list" lists a "ImExPS/2 Generic Explorer Mouse" but no touchpad. "lshal | grep synaptics" results in nothing. Copying and adding parameters to enable scrolling to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi .does not result in any change. The touchpad works as a mouse, but lacks scrolling and other features. [Bug 321528] Re: ext4 defrag / defragment tool in Jaunty - include
One thing comes to my mind with respect to people trying this out. I recall reading that e4defrag was going be the proposed way to convert files to using extents after migrating from ext3. But I get "Operation not supported" when I try to defrag files older than the date of migration, so it looks like e4defrag doesn't work on non-extents files yet (that or something strange is going on). Testers should be aware of this so they won't expect to be able to migrate to ext4 then immediately run e4defrag and have it work. If you migrated from ext3, the older files won't defrag. -- ext4 defrag / defragment tool in Jaunty - include https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/321528 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 413746] Re: home deleted while emptying trash (unmounting usb)
Problem: I put the pendrive, a Nautilus window opens, I click some files in the pendrive and select "move to trash", then I try to unmount the pendrive and a nautilus windows appear with the three options (cancel, empty trash, do not empty trash). The empty trash option cleans everything including files with no writting permission. It seems that when unmounting the system wants to clean the pendrive trash, but instead of doing that it deletes the home files. --- On Fri, 8/14/09, Sebastien Bacher wrote: > From: Sebastien Bacher > Subject: [Bug 413746] Re: home deleted while emptying trash (unmounting usb) > To: solcitophys...@yahoo.com > Date: Friday, August 14, 2009, 4:34 PM > did you use nautilus or the applet to > clean the trash? > > ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) > Status: New => > Incomplete > > ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) > Status: Incomplete => > New > > -- > home deleted while emptying trash (unmounting usb) > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/413746 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct > subscriber > of the bug. > > Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: New > > Bug description: > Binary package hint: nautilus > > 1) Ubuntu 9.04 last version of kernel update. > 2) Nautilus > 3) I was trying to unmount a usb pendrive (256 MB), I > wanted to deleted files in the pendrive to get some space. > 4) The system asked that the trash was not empty and asked > me what to do: "Do not empty trash" ; " Cancel ; " Empty > trash". I can confirm part of this behaviour: my headphone channel is always muted when I reboot Karmic (and since it's chained to the PCM, I get no output from the speakers or headphones). [Bug 409759] Re: [Karmic] No sound with jack output now with PulseAudio 1:0.9.16~test4-0ubuntu1
I can confirm there are audio problems in Karmic. I have an HDA Intel ICH8 chipset and the headphone channel is muted after every reboot. gnome-volume-control's doesn't unmute this channel if I select headphones as the output. Unfortunately the headphones channel is actually chained with the PCM channel, so there is never any sound after reboot until I unmute the channel with alsamixer. If I mute headphones from alsa-mixer, it also mutes master and gnome- volume-control recognises it is muted. If I unmute both from alsa-mixer, gnome-volume-control doesn't detect it and there is still no sound until I unmute gnome-volume-control (which must be a pulseaudio issue). Furthermore, totem always reduces the volume at start and end of playback... but that's the subject of another bug. In Jaunty, I run the 2.6.30.4 kernel. It has the same alsa-driver (1.0.20) as Karmic's kernel and hence detects the same channels as Karmic. The main difference is that it doesn't mute anything on reboot. So this is a regression in Karmic. -- [Karmic] No sound with jack output now with PulseAudio 1:0.9.16~test4-0ubuntu1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/409759 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 413895] [NEW] no sound, and debugging yields inconsistent driver info
Public bug reported: This is in regard to the Alsa drivers (to the best of my knowledge). The core problem is that I don't get sound from my Sound Blaster card in 9.04, whereas I did in 8.10. In following the Sound Troubleshooting page ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting ), I ran into inconsistent information on my sound card. The Alsa page says it should be supported, I think, but I can't find my codecs listed in the ALSA- Configuration.txt file. Here's my Alsa Info page: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=41fd4fd3622f3b4462cba75ba956a1080a3a6748 If I'm reading this right, I have codecs AD1980 and STAC9708, and driver version 1.0.18rc3, but when looking at the ALSA-Configuration.txt file for this driver version or any other, my codecs aren't present. 1) Release: Ubuntu 9.04 2) alsa-base version: 1.0.18.dfsg-1ubuntu8; alsa-utils version: 1.0.18-1ubuntu11 3) sound 4) no sound (actually, I can get sound from my on board sound, but not my Sound Blaster card) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- no sound, and debugging yields inconsistent driver info https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/413895 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
