[Bug 320977] Re: Installation: "Prepare disk space" w/ 4 disks = missing "Quit", "Back", and "Forward" buttons

2009-08-14 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
There is a similar bug #364617 - the width of Ubiquity's window increases too
much in partitioning step if computer has other operating system(s) installed.
That bug is because of text "This will delete ${SYSTEMS} and install
${RELEASE}." (debconf template ubiquity/text/part_format_warning). ${SYSTEMS}
is often very long text, especially in notebook computers with "recovery
partition", where is one more "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" or "Windows
Vista (loader)" installed.
When you will fix this bug, please also fix bug #364617

[Bug 413933] [NEW] random hangs of karmic

2009-08-14 Thread Martin Pool
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Karmic was working well on my X61s laptop last week, but updates in the
last few days seem to have introduced a problem where it locks up hard:
neither ctrl-alt-f1 nor sysrq have any response. I've seen this about
four times in the last three days.

I'm not quite sure what this correlates with but it may be related to X
input grabs when there's a dropdown menu or I'm using the task switcher.

(Sorry, I realize there's not much to go on here.)

[Bug 354995] Re: Brasero Checksum Error

2009-08-14 Thread Kip Warner
I also confirm this bug. I manually ran md5sum on the contents of the
burned disc, and also again on the contents of the ISO after mounting it
through the local loop back device. The checksums file by file are fine.

I have attached my session log.

[Bug 364617] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 installer's width increases too much in partitioning step if computer has other OS installed

2009-08-14 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
** Summary changed:

- Ubuntu 9.04rc installer exceeds size of low resolution screen once the
partitioner is started
+ Ubuntu 9.04 installer's width increases too much in partitioning step if
computer has other OS installed

** Description changed:

- My computer has a nVidia card and boots from CD to low-res. The
- installer went over twice the width of my screen when the partitioner
- started due to the number of partitions I have (I think). HOWEVER, I am
- not sure. Regardless, it made installation at that point rather
- difficult and had I not known to use the ALT+Left Mouse to drag the
- window, I would have been unable to continue the installation.
+ Ubuntu 9.04 installer's window width increases too much in partitioning
+ step if computer has other operating system(s) installed. This is
+ because of text "This will delete ${SYSTEMS} and install ${RELEASE}."
+ (debconf template ubiquity/text/part_format_warning). ${SYSTEMS} often
+ is very long text, especially in notebook computers with "recovery
+ partition", where is one more "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" or
+ "Windows Vista (loader)" installed.

- This is a serious bug for those that have my hardware and are NEW to
- Ubuntu.
+ This problem is especially visible when LiveCD starts in 800x600 screen
resolution (this often happens with NVIDIA graphic cards or Asus EeePC
netbooks) and has other operating systems installed. Ubuntu installer's window
expands over twice the width of my screen when in the partitioning step.
+ For simple user it's impossible to continue the installation, because button
"Forward" is not visible :(
+ It's a serious bug for those that are NEW to Ubuntu.

- I knew I would be OK once I installed because of the nVidia driver
- download option.
+ For the majority of real situation this bug can be fixed by simply
+ adding line break after installed operating system list ({SYSTEMS}) -
+ I've fixed partitioning step window's width problem by applying this
+ patch against debconf templates:
+
+ Name: ubiquity/text/part_format_warning
+ -Description: This will delete ${SYSTEMS} and install ${RELEASE}.
+ +Description: This will delete ${SYSTEMS} \n and install ${RELEASE}.

Hostnames are expected to be fully quallified domain names, not simple
numbers, or even just simple words.

[Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling

2009-08-14 Thread nnutter
I just wanted to give a use-case/scenario where this is disruptive.

First of all, keep in mind that all Apple laptops only have one button
so the only option besides using two-finger click right clicks is to
bind keys with xmodmap (kind of an annoying necessity and not good for
user experience).

Now, the scenario. There are two major cases where this can just drive
you crazy. Trying to right-click a link on a webpage, e.g. to save to
disk or open or copy link location. The other really annoying situation
is when trying to right-click a misspelled word for spell check
suggestions.

This is a major annoyance, it leads to a very frustrating experience and
while it does not stop my system from being usable it is incredibly
aggravating.

I think the key points for solving this are:
1) "The jump happens during the context switch from one-finger pointing to
two-finger pointing." --Kirby
2) "There was an update to the OS X driver that fixed this situation for Apple.
I guess that it detects the second finger and programmatically ignores the
first few scrollticks, thereby 'deadening' the output. This is what we need."

[Bug 359363] Re: Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse

2009-08-14 Thread Jesse Dudley
I believe I have the same bug. I am running Xubuntu 9.04 on a Malata
PC-81006. "xinput list" lists a "ImExPS/2 Generic Explorer Mouse" but
no touchpad. "lshal | grep synaptics" results in nothing. Copying and
adding parameters to enable scrolling to
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi .does not result in any change.

The touchpad works as a mouse, but lacks scrolling and other features.

I have all the necessary output if needed.

Thank you for your work.

Here are snippets from dmesg and device:

[Bug 399732] Re: vboxdrv occasionally fails to load on karmic 2.6.30 kernels due to active nmi_watchdog

2009-08-14 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
After testing your ppa version, it would appear to be working just fine.
I have other video glitches to deal with regarding the new ati drivers
(inverted colors) that virtualbox seems to initiate faster than other
programs, but that is not related. The pulseaudio sound is working
great, and the VM started, shutdown and ran the windows updates just
fine.

[Bug 355284] Re: [LENOVO 0768BXG] suspend/resume failure

2009-08-14 Thread Neil Wilson
Correct. This is what I get from the Lenovo.

ACPI alarm test: alarm in 5 seconds time: (Using /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm)
  FAILED: Cannot set ACPI alarm!

The script works fine on my Acer Aspire 5536 laptop. Pity that suspend and
resume doesn't.

[Bug 413903] [NEW] black screen after resume - Acer Aspire/ATI Radeon HD 3200

2009-08-14 Thread Neil Wilson
Public bug reported:

karmic alpha 4 release (but appears to be a long standing issue with ATI
Radeon HD 3200 cards).

Computer comes back from resume with a black screen. The computer is
still functioning since I can shut it down with CTRL/ALT/DEL followed by
Enter.

Looks like the video card isn't reinitialising.

Re: [Bug 409630] Re: K-Pilot crashed upon launching the application

2009-08-14 Thread Michael Canavatchel
Hi Jeff,

I completely uninstalled Kpilot from Synaptic, rebooted, reinstalled
Kpilot and got the same crash error. I copied and pasted the backtrace
from the crash handler...

Application: KPilot (kpilot), signal SIGSEGV

No I don't have Akonadi installed... I don't even know what it is!! :)
Ignorance is bliss! However I DO have J-pilot installed and it works
fine. I can consistently reproduce the crash, no problem there... Let me
know what else I can do to nail this down.

Thanks!
Michael

2009-08-14 Thread Brian Rogers
One thing comes to my mind with respect to people trying this out. I
recall reading that e4defrag was going be the proposed way to convert
files to using extents after migrating from ext3. But I get "Operation
not supported" when I try to defrag files older than the date of
migration, so it looks like e4defrag doesn't work on non-extents files
yet (that or something strange is going on).

Testers should be aware of this so they won't expect to be able to
migrate to ext4 then immediately run e4defrag and have it work. If you
migrated from ext3, the older files won't defrag.

Re: [Bug 413746] Re: home deleted while emptying trash (unmounting usb)

2009-08-14 Thread solcitophysics
Problem:

I put the pendrive, a Nautilus window opens, I click some files in the pendrive
and select "move to trash", then I try to unmount the pendrive and a nautilus
windows appear with the three options (cancel, empty trash, do not empty
trash). The empty trash option cleans everything including files with no
writting permission.
It seems that when unmounting the system wants to clean the pendrive trash, but
instead of doing that it deletes the home files.

[Bug 412807] Re: Regression: snd-hda-intel no longer outputs through headphone jack in Karmic 8086:284b Codec SigmaTel STAC9271D

2009-08-14 Thread Rocko
I have the same chip (Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)) and I get a different result: the headphone output
works and it mutes the speakers as expected.

However, every time I reboot, alsamixer shows the headphone channel has
been muted. Since the headphone channel is actually chained with the PCM
channel, I get no output on speakers or headphones when I boot into
Karmic.

[Bug 409759] Re: [Karmic] No sound with jack output now with PulseAudio 1:0.9.16~test4-0ubuntu1

2009-08-14 Thread Rocko
I can confirm there are audio problems in Karmic.

I have an HDA Intel ICH8 chipset and the headphone channel is muted
after every reboot. gnome-volume-control's doesn't unmute this channel
if I select headphones as the output. Unfortunately the headphones
channel is actually chained with the PCM channel, so there is never any
sound after reboot until I unmute the channel with alsamixer.

If I mute headphones from alsa-mixer, it also mutes master and gnome-
volume-control recognises it is muted. If I unmute both from alsa-mixer,
gnome-volume-control doesn't detect it and there is still no sound until
I unmute gnome-volume-control (which must be a pulseaudio issue).

Furthermore, totem always reduces the volume at start and end of
playback... but that's the subject of another bug.

In Jaunty, I run the 2.6.30.4 kernel. It has the same alsa-driver
(1.0.20) as Karmic's kernel and hence detects the same channels as
Karmic. The main difference is that it doesn't mute anything on reboot.
So this is a regression in Karmic.

[Bug 413895] [NEW] no sound, and debugging yields inconsistent driver info

2009-08-14 Thread Tom
Public bug reported:

This is in regard to the Alsa drivers (to the best of my knowledge).

The core problem is that I don't get sound from my Sound Blaster card in
9.04, whereas I did in 8.10.

In following the Sound Troubleshooting page (
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting ), I ran into
inconsistent information on my sound card. The Alsa page says it should
be supported, I think, but I can't find my codecs listed in the ALSA-
Configuration.txt file.

Here's my Alsa Info page:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=41fd4fd3622f3b4462cba75ba956a1080a3a6748

If I'm reading this right, I have codecs AD1980 and STAC9708, and driver
version 1.0.18rc3, but when looking at the ALSA-Configuration.txt file

ok, so it seems to be a variant of the forementioned bugs. The docking
station makes it behave diferently.

[Bug 413892] [NEW] [ubuntu studio karmic-alpha 4] 100% cpu usage

2009-08-14 Thread Scott Lavender
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Screen text resolution is off before usplash is displayed also. Usplash
only makes it to filling in the second 'u' before monitor loses signal
which then comes back only when the system gets to the GDM.

Anything that scrolls (e.g. Firefox) or updates continuous (system
monitor) causes cpu to hit 100%.

If the system is left alone, even in Firefox without scrolling, the cpu
drops to normal amounts.

Additionally, sometimes typed keys are repeated numerous times.

Using Ubuntu Studio 9.10 Karmic Alpha-4.

[Bug 413894] [NEW] [Karmic] Typo in vm.py

2009-08-14 Thread Michael B. Trausch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-vm-builder

in vm.py (/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/VMBuilder/vm.py) there is a
typo in the Karmic package; line 303. It reads:

  mask = Ox

Where it should read:

  mask = 0x

(in the first, it is a capital letter "O", the latter, it is a zero).

Mine were strange characters too, I installed a Chinese app, but as wine
doesnt support unicode/chinese characters out of the box, it didnt
display chinese, just random garbage.

Try installing a chinese app, then removing the icon from the menu.
