[Bug 404533] Re: Screen flickering on Karmic Alpha 3

2009-08-21 Thread w1zard
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 412492 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/412492

I have been able to work around this issue with the 'nomodeset' flag:

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
replace splash with nomodeset
save
sudo update-grub

On reboot the flickering stops. This might help others afflicted by this
annoying issue.

[Bug 392510] Re: Dual-boot install using mdadm root fails to boot

2009-08-21 Thread Tormod Volden
Ok, then /dev/sdc will not be removed.

If I understand Use the -Z flag only if root partition is mountd in a
dmraid array. correctly, the partitions on the two (dmraid member)
disks /dev/sda and /dev/sdb will be exposed, in my example above. This
is why I think this patch is wrong.

 I don't consider that as a special set-ups.

I agree that Christian's set-up is a broken one that we don't need to
support. Anyway it could be handy sometimes to overrule any dmraid meta
data left over on a disk and tell the system to not use dmraid. This is
why I like nodmraid, which also would have solved Christian's problem.

So maybe you could mark this bug invalid or wontfix, but I would not
say it is Resolved by the above patch.

[Bug 305905] Re: start.ubuntu Google CSE has fewer features

2009-08-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Why can't Canonical/Ubuntu talk with Google to get a customized homepage
like http://www.google.com/firefox/ except it would be
http://www.google.com/ubuntu/ ? This page magically has the normal
Google buttons like Images, News, Advanced Search etc. as well as a
custom logo, space for announcements and maybe a link or two back to
ubuntu.com. It would be even nicer if Google would modify the page to
add the magic extra code to search queries so that Ubuntu can get some
profit in a similar manner to how Mozilla is funded by the Google
searchbox searches.

Re: [Bug 350680] Re: IBM T42 crashes on wake up from hibernate

2009-08-21 Thread Mark
I installed Karmic on a fresh HD, but I haven't done any updates since
that install from the iso - perhaps it's running a stale kernel as
well. I've been putting off Jaunty's kernel updates since they showed
up - I hope to get to that this weekend and see if there's any change.

I'll check out that stress-test, though. If nothing else, hopefully it
will help to prove / disprove that the recent kernel updates actually
have an effect.

You can read more on syncing and merging on the following wiki pages:

In the future please don't just throw in some diffs without explanation, it's

[Bug 368394] Re: netbook launcher mouse focus is off

2009-08-21 Thread Gethin
I have the same issue with Netbook remix 9.04 running on a Travelmate C110
tablet (standard 1024x768 screen). Mouse mappings seem to work perfectly in all
of the windows (firefox etc) apart from the launcher / desktop itself. I would
agree that the issue seems to be to do with screen width. It seems as if the
launcher is expecting my monitor to be widescreen and has mapped accordingly.
The central section has space for four icons. When my mouse is over the 1st,
the 3rd is highlighted, 2nd to 4th. When it reaches halfway however, the
problem reverses and becomes 3rd to 1 etc. It appears as if the screen is being
mapped in from the sides as a widescreen and then when it runs out of space on
my old width screen, bounces back to the edges.
This isn't a problem on the normal desktop for jaunty with my computer.
Is there a configuration file for the netbook launcher that tells it what the
screen size is?

Tormod Volden ha scritto:
Ok, then /dev/sdc will not be removed.

If I understand Use the -Z flag only if root partition is mountd in a
dmraid array. correctly, the partitions on the two (dmraid member)
disks /dev/sda and /dev/sdb will be exposed, in my example above. This
is why I think this patch is wrong.

In your example above, if your /dev/sdc is not part of an array, kernel will not
remove it. If it happens this is a bug.
If /dev/sda and /dev/sdb are part of an array, they will be removed, and this is
*not* a bug, why it should be..?

 I don't consider that as a special set-ups.

I agree that Christian's set-up is a broken one that we don't need to
support. Anyway it could be handy sometimes to overrule any dmraid meta
data left over on a disk and tell the system to not use dmraid. This is
why I like nodmraid, which also would have solved Christian's problem.

Yes I agree, this could be an interesting feature, but imho is not relevant with
this issue.

So maybe you could mark this bug invalid or wontfix, but I would not
say it is Resolved by the above patch.

Workaround (patch) that I added in the latest revision isn't elegant, but imho
it fixed that issue. If it doesn't, please reopen this bug and write a testcase.

Cheers,
Giuseppe.

Re: [Bug 368855] Re: formatwarning() definition from cherrypy3 incompatible with Python 2.6

2009-08-21 Thread Krzysztof Klimonda
I believe I have already requested a sync and it was even ACKd by MOTU
but I can't find a mail nor bug right now - I don't have an access to
any computer other than my phone right now. I'll try to dig up bug
number from my mailbox later and see why it isn't synced yet... ok, it
looks like someone has pushed a wrong button and instead of 3.1.2-1
version 3.1.1-3 was synced. I'll fill a sync request once again.

Julien Lavergne julien.laver...@gmail.com wrote:

[Bug 416905] [NEW] Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC hibernate/resume failure

2009-08-21 Thread Joel Goguen
Public bug reported:

Resuming from hibernate gave me the Ubuntu boot screen, which said the
laptop was waking up. After a bit, that disappeared, the screen
remained blank, nothing was responsive, and no USB devices plugged in
appeared to be getting power. After ~5 minutes I forced the laptop to
power off, started it again, and aside from this problem report
everything seemed fine. When I hibernated, all I had running was
Firefox (2 windows, definitely over 5 tabs each), Dropbox, Ubuntu One,
and I believe I also had Terminal open with two tabs. I believe Ubuntu
One and Dropbox were both idle.

The BIOS identifies this as a Pavilion dv2500, but the actual model is
HP Pavilion dv2622ca. Not sure if that makes a difference here, but I
know the difference has caused problems for other people trying to use
the HP recovery discs to restore their Vista installs.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous hibernate and prevented it from
resuming properly.

Actually, one could probably request a sync of 1.73 to jaunty. As far as
I remember its a simple enough as there aro no changes in source package
required. But only to jaunty - we can't backport to eaelier releases,
only ppa for them slackers :)

[Bug 324506] Re: Mouse has suddenly no contact, till X-Server restart

2009-08-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi phiphi.g,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 416913] [NEW] Verizon 3G USB unable to reconnect

2009-08-21 Thread tekstr1der
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Verizon UM150 connects as expected the FIRST time. Subsequent attempts
to connect during session fail.

STR:

1) insert USB modem device
2) connect via network manager applet
3) disconnect via network manager applet
4) remove device
5) insert device
6) attempt to connect via network manager applet

RESULT:

Unable to connect on any subsequent attempt. notify-osd states offline -
disconnected

WORKAROUND:

Simply killing modem-manager is enough to work around this issue. It
automatically re-spawns and the connection can then be established.

Also, I tried to obtain a modemmanager debug log for this. However,
after stopping the network and killing modem-manager, it still restarts
automatically and I don't have the opportunity to start it with the
--debug option.

[Bug 416916] [NEW] mime-types are hosed; can I fix them?

2009-08-21 Thread teledyn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I don't know how it got this way, but ALMOST all of the mime-types
displaying in Nautilus are wrong, listing video and mp3 files as text
files and only offering text editors as 'players' -- I don't want to
clear this user account and re-install (ie the Windows approach) but I
can't find any obvious user-space file that would explain this
behaviour! Where does Nautilus get its mime-type information? Is there
some way to restore defaults? If I knew the files, perhaps I could
copy them over from another account.

[Bug 411263] Re: Please merge webkit 1.1.12-1 from Debian sid

2009-08-21 Thread Ying-Chun Liu
Sorry for late reply.

I need more time to invetigate what happen to the patch actually.

The patch add some API and is mainly used by anjal.
So it's from Anjal http://git.gnome.org/cgit/anjal/tree/webkit.patch

However, RedHat also has the same bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.cohttps://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=507837
And it seems that upstream https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17154
already do something.
And the changes should be already shipped with webkit 1.1.12

So now I have to look into anjal to see if it still need that patch. If
no, we can sync from Debian.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 335364] Re: Last.fm doesn't work correctly; play list runs through without playing anything.

2009-08-21 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Well as Sebastien said that's something to send upstream to
bugzilla.gnome.org by someone who can reproduce the issue, i'm not
facing that here. If you want the bug to be fixed the best for now is to
send it upstream, the Ubuntu team doesn't have the resources to work on
that.

[Bug 416909] Re: arora doesn't honor Ctrl+Z after closing a tab

2009-08-21 Thread Nicolas Dumoulin
I think that Ctr+Z is more ergonomic. Moreover, I don't see the action in the
menu, so it is hidden in my point of view.
I understand your answer, but I think that just like Firefox isn't a valid
argument :-)

I have looked in the menu, and I have found that there is an history of
closed tabs, it's good. But it doesn't keep the history of a tab. In
konqueror, the undo action restore the last closed tab and its history.
I understand that both ways are different, but maybe we can find a way
to merge approaches.

I will think about it, if I find a better solution, I'll repoen this
report :-)

[Bug 416933] [NEW] Sync mozzemberek 0.1.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-08-21 Thread Rail Aliev
Public bug reported:

Hash: SHA1

 done

Please sync mozzemberek 0.1.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

IMO, xulrunner (= 1.9.1~) hard dependency can be dropped so an unmodified
Debian package can be built without any issues (and even backported).

Changelog since current karmic version 0.1.2-2ubuntu0.xul19:

mozzemberek (0.1.5-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version.

 -- Rail Aliev r...@i-rs.ru Thu, 20 Aug 2009 16:33:43 +0400

mozzemberek (0.1.4-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/control:
- Bump standards version. No changes needed.
- Add libxml-xpath-perl as dependency for parsing supported aplications at
  build time.
- Depend on one of the supported Mozilla applications.
  * debian/rules:
- Split files across /usr/share and /usr/lib.
- Use /usr/share/mozilla/APP_ID/EXT_ID symlinks for supported applications.

 -- Rail Aliev r...@i-rs.ru Thu, 20 Aug 2009 13:07:25 +0400

mozzemberek (0.1.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version.
  * Add a symlink to Iceweasel extensions folder on Debian. (Closes: #530605)
  * debian/control:
- Add lsb-release to Build-Depends needed by debian/rules.
- Bump standards version to 3.8.2. No changes needed.
- firefox-3.1 changed to firefox-3.5.
- Update package long description.
  * Add lintian-override to ignore absence of upstream changelog.

[Bug 363523] Re: [TOSHIBA Satellite A55] suspend/resume failure

2009-08-21 Thread Colin King
I'm not 100% clear if this is a fault in the final part of the suspend
or during the resume. I'm currently thinking we should look at the
resume phase. Please can you follow through the debugging steps as
described in: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend

Please attach the dmesg output once you have rebooted the machine so
that I can check to see which driver is causing the problem. Thanks!

[Bug 416854] Re: Update qbzr to 0.14

2009-08-21 Thread Alexander Belchenko
Because QBzr is the plugin for Bazaar VCS and Ubuntu Karmic will have
bzr 2.0 inside, there is should be used QBzr at least of version 0.13.1,
otherwise QBzr 0.11 will be incompatible with recent bzr. Using QBzr
0.14 is the better option.
