[Bug 247312] Re: DBus error when connecting my Sansa E260

2009-09-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
The Sansa E260 is included in the list of libmtp's supported players, at
least on Karmic. The player's ID is already in the version included with
Jaunty, but is named the Sansa E280 v2 there; the Sansa E260 and the
Sansa E280 v2 share the same ID.

Can you confirm that this bug still exists? Otherwise I'll set the
status for the libmtp part to Invalid, in order to keep Launchpad clean
and readable.

[Bug 313717] Re: creative zen mozaic device needs a udev rule, libmtp8 is old

2009-09-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for helping with making Ubuntu and libmtp better by reporting this
bug. Support for this device was added in libmtp 0.3.2. Since the latest
version in the current development release is 0.3.7 I'm marking this bug as Fix
Released for libmtp in Ubuntu.
If you would like to have the version of libmtp8 in Jaunty working I suggest to
follow the StableReleaseUpgrade procedure. However, in less than two months
Ubuntu Karmic is going to be released, so you might better wait for that.
The procedure is outlined at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.

A good argument in favour of upgrading libmtp8 in Jaunty is the large
amount of new players that were added.

[Bug 424371] Re: Logins to OpenSSH server slow due to UseDNS yes config

2009-09-04 Thread Brian Kelley
After reading more about UseDNS, the more pertinent issue is what is the
point of it at all if a false IP for the hostname is still accepted as a
valid connection.

Also, why is there no setting to make it timeout after a certain number
of seconds (aka, what if the DNS request didn't time out for a minute,
as some on the web are finding)? There should be a setting to force a
DNS timeout.

[Bug 120420] Re: Tilde not working on iMac in UK (Feisty)

2009-09-04 Thread TJ
I can confirm this with Jaunty on a PowerPC iMac (/proc/cpuinfo:
NewWorld 66 iMac FireWire, PowerMac2,2 740/750) with the Apple USB
Keyboard (model number M2452). I've attached a photograph to avoid
confusion.

There are two issues:

1. Mapping of the UK key-cap symbols for many of the non-alphabetical keys is
incorrect in console and Xorg
2. Selecting Apple-specific layouts fails under Xorg.
3. There is no # symbol and no obvious alternate way to generate it - a big
problem when trying to edit shell scripts

Is there any progress being made on this bug? My workaround, to use the

So I can't use that output. As it stands, I don't have a usable way to
have two audio outputs.

[Bug 407352] Re: Sansa Clip 8GB causes segfault when running mtp-detect

2009-09-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for helping with making Ubuntu and libmtp better by reporting this
bug. Support for this device was added in libmtp 0.3.5.
Since the latest version in the current development release is 0.3.7 I'm
marking this bug as Fix Released for libmtp in Ubuntu.

If you would like to have the version of libmtp8 in Jaunty I suggest to follow
the StableReleaseUpgrade procedure. However, in less than two months Ubuntu
Karmic is going to be released, so you might want wait for that.
The procedure is outlined at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.

A good argument in favour of upgrading libmtp8 in Jaunty is the large
amount of new players that were added.

Re: [Bug 379393] Re: add checkbox submission reference

2009-09-04 Thread Abel Deuring
On 03.09.2009 20:09, Martin Pitt wrote:
Sorry, it just occurred to me that in the general case we can't link the
hwdb submission key, we can just add the key value to the description
field. This is because Apport's job ends with opening a browser window
to file a bug, and never gets back the ID.

So either developers need to grab the key and fetch the corresponding
hwdb object manually, or LP needs to be extended to accept a checkbox
submission key in the +storeblob area (in the MIME headers, similar to
the Private:, Subscribers:, and Tags: fields). The latter would
obviously be preferrable, but needs further changes in LP.

 Abel, what do you think?

For now I'll just add the reference key to the description.

I think adding a header like

HWDB-Submission: submission-key

is fine. (Actually, a user might have run checkbox more than once on a
machine, so we should also allow

HWDB-Submission: submission-key, submission-key...

)

I opened bug 424382 for the Launchpad side.

Ah, and adding the actual key is already done by /usr/share/apport
/general-hooks/checkbox.py, so there's nothing to do in Apport right
now. I'll reopen this if/when LP extends the +storeblob API accordingly.

Not sure what this means. Do we already have they submission keys
somewhere in the data sent by Apport to +storeblob?

[Bug 424385] [NEW] [karmic] Please sync flashrom 0.9.1+r706-1 from Debian sid

2009-09-04 Thread Uwe Hermann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashrom

Please update to 0.9.1+r706-1 from Debian sid. It would be great if this
new version could be released with Karmic. Being both one of the
upstream developers and the Debian package maintainer, I'm pretty
confident that this version has a lot less issues and bugs than the
older one, and also more sanity checks to prevent users from mis-
flashing their boxes, so it should go into Karmic, IMHO.

Thanks!

[Bug 294259] Re: XFS internal error xfs_trans_cancel at line 1164 of file /build/buildd/linux-2.6.27/fs/xfs/xfs_trans.c

2009-09-04 Thread Sewi
Leann,

please look at the report. Comment #7 written on 2009-06-03 clearly
indentifies the problem and has a link explaining details.

This bug is not reproducable. I got it on a high-usage-server after more
than one year of usage and on a another box which isn't used heavily
after few month. Another box which was used by a customer crashed after
two weeks and we had a very hard time to recover the data.

It happens whenever the XFS free blocks table gets a corruption. If
you're lucky, the corruption isn't written to disk before the server
crashes. Otherwise, the crash occurs every time the system requests free
blocks and jumps into the corrupted area. (I'm neither a kernel not a
xfs guy, so please don't slap me if this is not 100% correct.)

This is clearly not no-one-would-like-to-test-it-so-we-ignore-and-
close-it - bug, it's a really critical thing, but it has been finally
resolved month ago. It should be easy to finally solve this issue on
Ubuntu, too.

All of us are currently lucky as long as you either get a power-outage
or crash and ext3 recovers your filesystem bei killing all files or
you're crash-safe but may run into the xfs-bug at any time.

Best Regards,
Sebastian

[Bug 424396] [NEW] npviewer.bin hogs cpu

2009-09-04 Thread Kai Moritz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nspluginwrapper

I am running jaunty 64bit on Intel Core 2 Duo.

I have some troubles with firefox and flash.

After some time (but always sooner or later) npviewer.bin starts hogging the
full cpu-power of one of the two cores, even if there is nothing to do (only a
simple flash-ad) and he still does so, even when I close all tabs with flash.
From time to time the whole flash seems to crash. Then I only see rectangles,
where the flash-ads (or -app) used to be.

I did some resarch, but couldn't find any hint, that there are a lot of
people, with the same problem.

1.)
I found this old post: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-647961.html
, which describes exactly the same problem, that I am experiencing. But there
is no newer information on that topic.

2.)
I found this old bugreport:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nspluginwrapper/+bug/177856 , which
describes the crashing-part of my problems. But it is closed and marked as
fixed.

3.)
I found this new bugreport:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nspluginwrapper/+bug/307535 , but I
think, that it describes another problem: there are only troubles with a
specific flash-page and firefox freezes than. But in my case, sooner or later
npviewer.bin always starts hogging my cpu and firefox is still working -
though, from time to time firefox get's very slow (and is greyed out by the
windowmanager, becaus it isn't responding anymore), although there seems not a
lot of work to do for him. But he comes back to live always after some
seconds...

[Bug 424368] [NEW] [FFE] local node discovery, debconf improvements

2009-09-04 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

The Eucalyptus installer work for Karmic is not quite complete. In
particular, it's missing the following pieces:

 * 'euca_conf --discover-nodes', an extension to discover Eucalyptus nodes on
the local network and offer them for addition to the cluster. The backend
support for this (Avahi advertisements of nodes) is already in place; we just
need to write the script changes.
 * The Eucalyptus cluster controller almost certainly needs a couple more
debconf questions to make sure it's set up correctly out of the box. (I don't
know the details and am relying on the server team to let me know what else
needs to be asked.)

I think both of these are very non-invasive: --discover-nodes will only
be used if you ask for it, and the debconf questions will only be asked
at initial installation time. Steve suggested I file a feature freeze
exception request anyway, though.

Does this bug still happen with libmtp 0.3.7, which is included in

These lines from the Rhythmbox debug log are interesting:

[Bug 289885] Re: creative zen x-fi VID/PID unknown

2009-09-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for helping with making Ubuntu and libmtp better by reporting
this bug. The error message you received indicates that the Creative Zen
X-Fi wasn't supported by libmtp. Normally you are asked to report that
upstream, so the device can be added.

However, this device has already been added to the list of supported
players in the latest version of libmtp, which is included in Karmic.

[Bug 424400] [NEW] DM9601 or Pegasus based USB NICs dont find their MAC address under 2.6.31-100-imx51

2009-09-04 Thread Oliver Grawert
Public bug reported:

Tobin Davis: When I try to plug in either a DM9601 based usb-nic or a
Pegasus based usb-nic, I get Error reading MAC address, and then the
system fails to recognize any new usb devices from that point on. Tried
plugging in a usb thumb drive to record dmesg output and uname output,
but the drive is not recognized until I reboot (if I have already tried
adding the nic).

uname -r reports 2.6.31-100-imx51.
The image is from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/daily-live/20090830.1/karmic-desktop-armel+imx51.img

I currently have no networking support still on the babbage 2.5 system,
and finding usb-nics with a working chipset is next to impossible
locally (even Fry's only had one Pegasus based usb-nic in stock and
nothing else).

Both pegasus and dm9601 nics work with the UNR i386 image from the same
build date.

I meant that apport bugs already have the submission reference in the
description, so if someone wants to, he can fetch it from LP manually.

[Bug 424371] [NEW] Logins to OpenSSH server slow due to UseDNS yes config

2009-09-04 Thread Brian Kelley
Public bug reported:

When logging in to my Ubuntu 8.04 Server edition server via SSH (client
PuTTY), logins take exactly 20 seconds from the time the username is
entered and the time the password request appears.

The problem is caused by the UseDNS yes config parameter. When it is
changed to UseDNS no, the server logs in instantly.

The cause of the problem is that the server is in a network that does
not have a DHCP server to store client hostnames, and thus, when
requesting the hostname, it waits for the request to timeout. When the
same server is put on a network with a DHCP server, the logins are
instantaneous as well.

Another workaround is to put the client's hostname and IP address in
/etc/hosts.

This bug has similar symptoms to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/84899 , but in my
case, disabling GSSAPIAuthentication does not resolve the issue.

I would disable UseDNS permanently, but I am skiddish because it sounds
like a security feature. Unfortunately, it seems worthless; when I put
the client's hostname and the WRONG IP address in /etc/hosts, the
connection still is successful (after a 20 second delay). That poses
the question: what is the point of UseDNS?

In bug 84899, someone suggests changing /etc/nsswitch.conf, but my
configuration was already like the recommended fix.

All config files are at their defaults.

To Reproduce:
Install Ubuntu Server 8.04
`apt-get install openssh-server`
Put machine on non-DHCP network
Connect to machine's IP

`lsb_release -rd`
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS
Release: 8.04

`apt-cache policy openssh-server1
Installed: 1:4.7p1-8ubuntu1.2
