Re: [Bug 347458] Re: lpia kernel used on alternate CD doesn't load cd-rom drivers
I suggest a cron job for opening this bug over and over again for every ubuntu release (including betas and rc's). :) That was a joke and here is soultion, that helped me numerous times during installation of at least 3 different Ubuntu releases (8.10, 9.04 hits this bug even in a release, 9.10) Make a change to cdrom detection script, which is (i believe) /var/lib/dpkg/info/cdrom-detect.postinst there is a line in it like if db_get cdrom-detect/try-usb && [ "$RET" = "true" ]; then in this line "&&[ "$RET" = "true" ]" should be removed and then everything goes OK. Actually upon loading alternate install cd one of my first actions are to switch to another console, edit the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/cdrom-detect.postinst and then proceed as usual. This always worked. I am not sure about any regressions though (e.g. to other installation usecases) 2009/9/11, Fabián Rodríguez : > I am having this same issue with the last Karmic alpha 5 LPIA alternate > installer. > > So, reopening as confirmed, nominating for Karmic. > > ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) >Status: Fix Released => Confirmed > > ** Tags added: regression-potential > > -- > lpia kernel used on alternate CD doesn't load cd-rom drivers > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347458 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of the bug. > > Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed > > Bug description: > When booting the jaunty alternate lpia CD (either directly or from a USB key > created with usb-creator), the installer cannot mount /cdrom, which limits > the ability to install. > > This results in the "No common CD-ROM drive was detected." error. > > This is trivial to replicate in kvm, with `kvm -cdrom > jaunty-alternate-lpia.iso`, and proceeding through the install. > > Note that no amount of fiddling with modprobe was able to access either a > virtual or real CD-ROM drive under kvm, nor mount a USB drive created with > usb-creator. > > This behaviour was observed with linux-lpia 2.6.28-9-lpia and earlier. > -- lpia kernel used on alternate CD doesn't load cd-rom drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347458 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 428266] [NEW] Automount in multiseat setup mounts the disc to random session
Public bug reported: I have a multiseat setup described here http://help.ubuntu.com/community/MultiseatX using a GDM. When a DVD disc is automounted it it is by luck whether the session that you are currently using gets to mount the device first. If a different session mounts it first, then as a different user has mounted it, you cannot unmount it from your own session. This is similar defect as the one described here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/28336 except that one is for KDE and non multiseat setup. The difference is that in multiseat setup multiple sessions can have focus or be active so it might be impossible for the system to decide for which session to automount the media without feedback from the user. If one session is idle then the system should be able to mount the disc on the session which is not idle if there is one. Otherwise system should popup a dialog (or display notification icon in notification area such as disc is ready to be mounter) on all sessions to ask to mount the disc and if one session accepts the options, the dialog would be dismissed on all sessions. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: multiseat -- Automount in multiseat setup mounts the disc to random session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428266 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 308624] Re: Intrepid hangs after usplash
Related bug? I have frequent boot failures related to usplash. Boot hangs at apparently various stages and fails permanently about 50% of the time. (I judge this by the varied amount of progress bar displayed at halt. There is no way to get more meaninful output from the system.) It fails absolutely every time fsck runs at boot. In some cases the system is still responsive to ctrl+alt+del or being shut down by a single press of the power button (triggers a software initialized shutdown) but in most cases not. Occasionally the HDD LED is on, not blinking--just on, when the system halts, especially if it halts during fsck (obviously). If I change the "splash" flag to "nosplash" in grub, the system boots without any trouble of any kind for every attempt. Re: [Bug 427221] Re: Inserted image is missing when the file is sent via email. This happens if the image is in some other directory
Dear Chris Cheney, I used the command insert>picture>from file.. to embed the picture into my document. The file structure was as follows D:\\A\B\mydocument,odtthe place where I stored my document D:\\A\\C\mypicture.jpg ..the place where I stored my image. The above arrangement does not upload the image while sending the file by e-mail. This I could verify by the file size. Generally I send my client the .odt file and .pdf file. I compare the file size of .odt and .pdf. The .odt file was much smaller. Then I changed file structure as follows D:\\A\mydocument.odt D:\\A\B\mypicture.jpg This works. [Bug 428260] [NEW] os-prober spawns interactive prompt 'Password:' and causes partial hang of /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober
Public bug reported: I have encountered this bug on a machine which dual boots Kubuntu 9.10 (alpha 5) and Windows Vista. This caused an incomplete upgrade whereby dpkg configuration which calls update-grub would hang after saying it had found memtest86+, requiring an interrupt to continue. temporarily moving the 30_os-prober script out of /etc/grub.d then re-running the dpkg configuration resolved that. If update-grub is called from the command line, the output pauses similarly after memtest86+. (this is where os-prober hits the password prompt and is actually waiting for input (it is an interactive prompt) If user hits enter, possibly more than once, os-prober exists returning both the correct response for Windows Vista (loader) and a spurious 'Password:'. the 30_os-prober script seems to catch this, and complain that 'Password' is not supported by grub-mkconfig, update-grub then finishes writing /boot/grub/grub.cfg avoiding unbootable system. attached is a log of running strace on os-prober. the Password: prompt appears at line 408. ** Affects: os-prober (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: grub-pc memtest86+ os-prober -- os-prober spawns interactive prompt 'Password:' and causes partial hang of /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428260 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 359857] Re: blt does not work as currently packaged
I suspect that you (pauljohn32) have made a typo in your posting, but just to reiterate, my patch causes tcl/tk 8.5 to load libBLT.2.4.so.8.5 instead of the incorrect libBLT.2.4.so.8.4 (i.e. it doesn't change the version of tcl/tk which is loaded). I haven't worked through the building of BLT to see what the differences are between libBLT.2.4.so.8.4 and libBLT.2.4.so.8.5 so I don't know if my patch affects the anti-aliased fonts problem at all. update-grub did fix the problem. In fact it also re-detected the original Linux installed by Asus on sda and Jaunty on sdb (these had disappeared from my grub menu also but I didn't want to confuse the bug in case that was somehow by design). Output from update-grub: Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-10-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-10-generic Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-9-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-9-generic Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin Found Debian GNU/Linux (4.0) on /dev/sda1 Found unknown Linux distribution on /dev/sda2 Found Ubuntu 9.04 (9.04) on /dev/sdb6 I'll attacch the requested files. [Bug 420277] Re: ldap tls refusing to initialize
Playing around with the source today and debugging slapd with gdb. It appears that much of the pain here is in tls_g.c, the wrappers for gnutls. The function tlsg_ctx_init in particular. This is where, at least for my configuration, most of the failures are occurring. And the code in this function often makes a call onto a gnutls function, as in: if (lo->ldo_tls_cacertfile != NULL) { rc = gnutls_certificate_set_x509_trust_file( ctx->cred, lt->lt_cacertfile, GNUTLS_X509_FMT_PEM ); if ( rc < 0 ) return -1; } and doesn't really do anything with the return code. There are 3 places in tlsg_ctx_init where this occurs with no logging of what the actual error code was. It just returns -1, rather than a more specific error code. Upshot is that we simply get a -1 error code in the log with no further advice on the specific problem. The code in tls_o.c for this function and others seems better developed and reports more useful error codes. With a self-signed certificate, and setting only the olcTLSCertificateFile olcTLSCertificateKeyFile, the server works and does answer properly when trying with a command on another machine like: openssl s_client -connect :636 -showcerts If oldTLSCACertificateFile is set to the self-signed certificate, slapd fails to initialize TLS. I suspect most of the problems being reported are due to configuration issues, like those reported by Christian R. Without better error output, it is very difficult to figure these out. Now I'd be delighted to try and add more debugging and produce a patch; however, perhaps I can get a bit of help with the packaging? I've been able to get the source with 'apt-get source libldap-2.4-2', and go in change the debian/configure.options, followed by a 'debchange -i' and 'debuild -us -uc -i -I', then a 'sudo debi', and get a version with debugging symbols installed. What has been eluding me (after reading the HOWTO and several other tutorials), is how to get changes in the source to build into the package properly when installed and how to get other Debug statements to work (though perhaps that is just because the packaging isn't working right, since the machine language statements in the debugger don't agree with the source listed in gdb, ouch). With a -nc option on debuild it builds, but likely isn't actually including the changes. Without the -nc, it complains about the upstream patches not being able to be applied. Hopefully someone can point me to the correct descriptions or give me some help on this one. Of course, a fixed up package with better error output from one of the openldap gurus would be most welcome! thanks, Peter -- ldap tls refusing to initialize https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 428247] [NEW] Wireless network (adhoc) does not work after system wakeup
Public bug reported: After waking up my laptop from standby mode, my adhoc wireless connection stops working. Pinging second adhoc computer says "Destination Host Unreachable". As a workaround, I run command $ sudo service networking stop; sleep 5s; sudo service networking start and network is back again (just restarting networking without delay works only sometimes).
