[Bug 462933] [NEW] [via_rhine] WOL after suspend works only once
Public bug reported: WOL after suspend works only once each reboot. If I suspend the computer after I woke it once, WOL won't work any more, but bringing it back using the power button seems to be fine. I'm using an old Gericom Notebook with a Via Rhine II onboard LAN. To get WOL to work in the first place I - edited /etc/init.d/halt (NETDOWN=no) - added these lines to my /etc.rc.local ethtool -s eth0 wol g echo -n ILAN | tee /proc/acpi/wakeup echo -n PCI0 | tee /proc/acpi/wakeup - also tried to change some variables in /etc/default/acpi-support: MODULES_WHITELIST=via_rhine # addded via_rhine STOP_SERVICES=networking# added networking SKIP_INTERFACES=dummy qemu eth0 # added eth0 After the first wake up using WOL, ethtool and /proc/acpi/wakeup show the same proper values. The attached pm-suspend.log and dmesg.log are taken after the following sequence: - reboot - suspend and resume with power-button - suspend and resume with WOL - suspend and resume with power-button after trying WOL Interesting is this line via-rhine: Woke system up. Reason: Magic packet. in dmesg. It appears each time when _trying_ to wake the pc with WOL. Thus it seems the packet is coming through to the ethernet module (via_rhine), but it can wake up the pc only the first time. btw: also tried the kernel parameter apm=on apm=power-off with no effect. For the latest tests and dumps I removed them again. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [via_rhine] WOL after suspend works only once https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462933 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 462939] [NEW] Lid close with intel 82852/855GM provoques black screen, loss of control and overeat
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Well basicly this bug looks almost like bug #138256 : When closing the lid and reopening it, the screen remains black and the laptop is not responding to anything (ctrl alt + Fx, ctrl alt +backspace or even SysRq are not working) the only way to get out is to power off the laptop with button. Tis bug is quite dangerous because the PC is NOT in suspend mode : it generate a lot of heat, and thus closing the lid and putting the laptop in a bag may result in dangerous overheat leading irremediable to hardware failure. 1) #138256 is old (2007) and fix is released, when this is a bug I did not have under 9.04 and have under 9.10 2) Putting the following in xorg.conf does not help Section Device ... other options here ... Option ForceEnablePipeA true EndSection Maybe the solution 2 works if there is something else than xorg.conf where to put this since a few Ubuntu release xorg.conf is minimalistic. I believe this bug is very severe. [Bug 462937] [NEW] An open menu renders laptop quick lauch buttons inactive.
Public bug reported: 9.10 Beta HP DV6720ez Laptop If a menu is open in any window / package the laptop quick launch buttons (volume up/down, next track etc) are deactivated. This is not restricted to any particular menu/package and the problem probably resides in either the package that controls the quick launch buttons or the package controlling general windows / menu behaviour but I'm not sure how to find these. [Bug 217546] Re: Menu is displaying in wrong locale
It looks like what I originally posed was the way to manually hard-code the language fields in the .glade file. Attached is an updated diff file to be used if you want to build from source. This uses the glade stock_items, which seem to have been removed as part of the patch when submitted earlier (for music option support). #mkdir tmp #cd tmp #apt-get source gweled Copy over the replacement diff.gz file on top of the distributed one and run the following commands: #cd gweled-0.7 #sudo dpkg-buildpackage -uc -b #sudo dpkg -i ../gweled_0.7-2ubuntu6_i386.deb Test it and see if this finally fixes it. *Disclaimer* - I don't usually do any gnome / gtk / glade development. [Bug 460104] Re: Eclipse crashes on installing update
Looks like both logs were done on amd64 machines. Eclipse starts a new process on launch on that arch, which means that valgrind unfortunately didn't catch the error. You can force Eclipse to start the jvm in the same process instead of a new one by giving it the arguments -vm /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/amd64/server/. If you use a jvm other than openjdk, replace the directory argument by the one containing libjvm.so for your preferred jvm. So the commandline would look like this: G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly valgrind -v --tool=memcheck --leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --smc-check=all --log-file=valgrind.log /usr/bin/eclipse -vm /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/amd64/server/ -- Eclipse crashes on installing update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460104 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 441100] Re: within chroot, can fail to reload daemon configuration if not running (detects dbus daemon outside of chroot)
The title of this bug is a little confusing, I am trying to deal with this bug and I almost filed a separate bug with this description: Upgrades of the dbus package fail unless dbus is running This is a problem for a number of reasons: 1. if you are running in a chroot, dbus upgrades fail. I imagine this is a problem in other similar installation or maintenance scenarios, including the uck package (Ubuntu Customization Kit) 2. if somehow dbus got broken and couldn't start, you could never reinstall or upgrade it to fix the problem This can sometimes be worked around by binding /var/run/dbus on the host system, but what is the upgrade doing over the bus that should really be happening to the chroot system? If it is nothing important the package should not die on the error, and if it is important then the package should be updated to store the necessary bus commands and run them the next time the bus is active. This was a somewhat smaller problem in Jaunty and earlier Ubuntu releases that could easily be worked around by explicitly starting dbus in the chroot, but now with recent init script updates it detects the dbus process from the host system and won't start in the chroot. This issue needs to be formally addressed. error log: Setting up dbus (1.2.16-0ubuntu9) ... Installing new version of config file /etc/dbus-1/system.conf ... [Bug 337759] Re: openerp-server depends on python-xml and is therefore uninstallable ATM
Hello, I propose to fix the problem at the source. The trunk version of OpenERP, expected to stabilize around Q1 1010, is already deprecated XML lib free (thanks to fellow contribs). Considering the issue is now worse on Karmic (read that report https://bugs.launchpad.net/openobject-server/+bug/429519 ), I proposed to Tiny to backport this fix back to the 5-0 releases of OpenERP. Yes this is a significant change. However, it's easy to test and will then behave in predicable ways. I did lot's of tests myself, have been very careful with the merge (more than Tiny themselves as logs show) and I just ask for testing heavily, but merging, to fix the issue once for all for Ubuntu and other modern distros. Also consider that I have been integrating OpenERP for two years as an OpenERP partner with around 5 success stories so I know a bit about it. My fixed 5-0 up to date branch is there: https://code.launchpad.net /~akretion-team/openobject-server/openobject-server_5.0_patches My merge proposal to Tiny for 5-0 server branch is there: https://code.launchpad.net/~akretion-team/openobject-server/openobject-server_5.0_patches/+merge/14112 If you think that's the right thing to do, please weight behind me for the merge into the stable OpenERP branch. -- openerp-server depends on python-xml and is therefore uninstallable ATM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337759 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 462961] Re: auto-resize install renders previous system with separate /boot unbootable
The original grub.cfg from the old install was correct (/boot/grub/grub.cfg on vda5): ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### menuentry Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic { recordfail=1 if [ -n ${have_grubenv} ]; then save_env recordfail; fi set quiet=1 insmod ext2 set root=(hd0,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 4b294ec9-0fb3-44bd-bc61-7f35ccb52534 linux /vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic root=UUID=3534fcb7-8b25-4b97-8643-59b566d177d7 ro quiet splash initrd /initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic } However, the one from the new install put the wrong UUID into the search line: ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### menuentry Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic (on /dev/vda5) { insmod ext2 set root=(hd0,5) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 3534fcb7-8b25-4b97-8643-59b566d177d7 linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic root=UUID=3534fcb7-8b25-4b97-8643-59b566d177d7 ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic ** Attachment added: /boot/grub/grub.cfg from the auto-resize installation http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34569161/grub.cfg -- auto-resize install renders previous system with separate /boot unbootable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462961 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
