[Bug 466118] [NEW] Panel Crashes
Public bug reported: Sorry, I'm a Linux newbee but here it goes. After upgrading to 9.10 Panel does not completely load at boot. The Desktop icon and trash appear on the bottom bar and work. Only Applications, Places, System and the Firefox, Evolution Mail icon and Help icon appear. None of these work or display any further drop down menus. Nothing else ever loads to right side of panel. No date, time, sound, network, or even name/logoff/poweroff icon. I have to push the power button on the PC to select shut down, log off etc.. From here when it goes to shut down a new window appears telling me Panel has crashed. This has happened on 3 of my 5 power ups since upgrading to the new distro. Daniel, Thank you for your interest in my problem. I downloaded and installed the realtek linux sound driver. (audiopak 5.13) which includes a driver for the ALC888 chipset. [Bug 459523] Re: regression: support for dvico dual digital 4 card
I was able to get 2.6.31-14-generic to boot. I did not try tuning with this, I doubt it will make any difference. I tried building the v4l tree: $ cd v4l-dvb $ make update; make ; The build dies on the FiredTV driver for some reason, so turn it off. $ sed -ie 's/CONFIG_DVB_FIREDTV=m/CONFIG_DVB_FIREDTV=n/' v4l/.config; $ make clean; make; sudo make install Then I shut down, and pulled the power to get a cold boot. Boot, and try to tune, stracing as we do $ sudo strace -t -F -ff dvbscan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/au-Sydney_North_Shore | tee northshore.conf It fails with "Unable to query frontend status". $ dmesg The log file is attached as log.dvbscan.20091031 -- regression: support for dvico dual digital 4 card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459523 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 153204] Re: [MASTER] Applications are flickering/flashing in full screen mode
I'm upstream too. :) When you first start compiz it has to redirect all of your windows so it can manipulate them. Unredirect Fullscreen Windows makes compiz stop managing the fullscreen window. This also puts the fullscreen window above everything else so all the windows compiz is managing will always draw underneath it. When another window pops up the only way we can show it is to redirect the fullscreen window again. This is the cause of the flicker, the window disappears while compiz is taking over drawing of it. This option is only useful for drivers that have a naive implementation of GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap, modern drivers implement so called "zero copy" texture from pixmap so redirecting the window for compiz to manage it is basically free. So while flickering is not the intention there is also no way to stop the flickering while this option is enabled. -- [MASTER] Applications are flickering/flashing in full screen mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153204 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 466109] [NEW] BUG: Dell Mini 9 wifi driver scheduling while atomic: dbus-daemon/1612/0x00090000
Public bug reported: I tried to install the restricted STA driver for the Broadcom 4312 wireless in my Dell Mini 9 laptop, on a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 standard edition. After installing 9.10 I applied all updates with aptitude upgrade, then went to the Restricted Drivers and installed the STA driver for Broadcom/ Then the utility seemed to freeze up, my Gnome bars vanished (wallpaper remained) and the Restricted Drivers utility then lost its theming. It looked like Windows 2000 for a while, until the utility vanished. The system hung. I forced a power off with the power button and got the bug report msg upon login. [Bug 446989] Re: ubiquity slideshow doesn't support RTL
A fix is definitely committed. If you check out the commit history on lp:ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu, you will see how to run it. The final release for Karmic did not have the fix, because it's down to Ubiquity to have its own RTL issue resolved. (Naturally, since it's the installer, it would have been a bad idea to make that kind of change between an RC and the final release). The one that landed in Karmic is release #10, which is tagged in the bzr history on revision 175. So, sorry about the lack of a fix for Karmic, but on the slideshow's end a fix is in trunk and good to go for Lucid. -- ubiquity slideshow doesn't support RTL https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/446989 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 427653] Re: cups fails on usb-parallel printer
re Daniel's comments: Under Intrepid my machine used to get the same message from lsusb...it listed the "Prolific..." string as you indicated. When I upgraded to Karmic that disappeared. There is no listing identifying the Prolific chip specifically like this at all. As I understand it this ID would be "downstream" of the print driver, making the choice of driver irrelevant until cleared. Under Intrepid recognition of the printer wasn't reliable. I sometimes had to reboot, or unplug / replug the usb connection or turn the printer off and back on to get the computer to realize it was there. Push the threshold a bit and you get the behaviour I'm seeing now. I wouldn't think this would be a software problem, but the effort on Karmic involved speeding it up. That could have introduced faster timing for handshaking, and the older Prolific chips became marginal or simply too slow. A guess. The following should be taken as coming from someone who has used computers for a long time, but is not familiar with CUPS at the detail level involved here: re the failure after one print: this is a wild shot on my part, but I just had a similar problem with Open Office spreadsheet. It was resolved by removing the old configuration directory (which apparently contained a corrupted file) and letting OO generate a new one. Is it possible there is a similar problem in, say, a spool directory for you? By way of possible clues: does the lockup clear if you turn the printer off and restart it? If so that suggests a handshake signal isn't making it through or is not being processed to clear the print status. I've had this happen, for example, if an end-of-page isn't sent to the printer when the job is complete. The computer "thinks" the job is done, but the printer is waiting for the "Tha's All Folks" signal to tidy up. Adding the EOP automatically is usually set as an option in the printer (driver) config, sometimes in an editor config. re Geoff's comment: having trouble with networked printers, in the context of the flaky Prolific recognition, suggests the hardware recognition problem may be more generic than just the Prolific chip. Whatever it is something changed in the jump from Intrepid to karmic in this area. the "fault" is persistent and reproducible. Hope this is helpful, and not ridiculous in context. [Bug 466095] [NEW] Updated Ubuntu, detected wrong size moniter
Public bug reported: Its not just firefox. the whole computer is crashing on full screen. It took me awhile to figure out what was going on. If I open most apps full screen it goes black. Themes is all black and wallpaper is not working. Its all black screen except for the top and bottom task bars and they dissapear full screen. Ubuntu has mis identified my moniter as an LG 23 inch. Its LG but it is not 23 inch. I think its 21? Everything works 1/2 screen, I did have to reduce the resoultion. 1680X1050 (16:10) to 1400X900 (16:10) This helped but it has not resolved the multitude of video problems. Also this update was in regards to facebook, farm town not working. I could not update flash enough to work, then After this upgrade it works at 1/2 screen, but crashes on full screen. I never tried 1/2 screen before, and I really suspect this was the problem all along.
