[Bug 456907] Re: need rebuild against latest webkit

2009-10-30 Thread Brian J. Murrell
OK. Seems one of my problems was that the URL you give to [lib]proxy as
to be of the format http://www.yahoo.com

Further however, I do think it still needs a rebuild against the latest
webkit and mozjs.

It's particularly noticable with Google Reader, but the scrollbar has a

[Bug 466118] [NEW] Panel Crashes

2009-10-30 Thread Robert Anderson
Public bug reported:

Sorry, I'm a Linux newbee but here it goes. After upgrading to 9.10
Panel does not completely load at boot. The Desktop icon and trash
appear on the bottom bar and work. Only Applications, Places, System and
the Firefox, Evolution Mail icon and Help icon appear. None of these
work or display any further drop down menus. Nothing else ever loads to
right side of panel. No date, time, sound, network, or even
name/logoff/poweroff icon. I have to push the power button on the PC to
select shut down, log off etc.. From here when it goes to shut down a
new window appears telling me Panel has crashed. This has happened on 3
of my 5 power ups since upgrading to the new distro.

[Bug 456064] Re: vim-rails fails to install due to depending on vim-full, but vim-full no longer exists

2009-10-30 Thread fabrice_sp
Hi,

To have it included in Karmic, the version should be ubuntu0.1, as you can see
at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update%20the%20packaging.
Also, you should close the bug report in your changelog by putting (LP:
#456064) in it.

Please update your debdiff (if you prefer, I can do it) so that I can
sponsor it into -proposed. Also, to have it sponsored, please subscribe
Ubuntu Sponsors for Universe next time :-)

Thanks for your work,
Fabrice

[Bug 466031] Re: no sound 9.10 GA-EX58-UDR3

2009-10-30 Thread Chris Edmonds
Daniel,

Thank you for your interest in my problem.
I downloaded and installed the realtek linux sound driver. (audiopak 5.13)
which includes a driver for the ALC888 chipset.
(ran the install file - not a manual install) Still no sound.
I also installed a ALSA mixer GUI, to check the levels. Again no sound.

I must admit this is not urgent. I would like to move to Ubuntu from XP
sometime in the future.
Maybe I should wait for future updates.

I have a new system (Core i7...etc) so this may be part of the problem.

Sincerely thanking you, (and all people who help in the launchpad
forum!!)

Chris.

[Bug 459523] Re: regression: support for dvico dual digital 4 card

2009-10-30 Thread Vince McIntyre

I was able to get 2.6.31-14-generic to boot. I did not try tuning with this, I
doubt it will make any difference.

I tried building the v4l tree:

  $ cd v4l-dvb
  $ make update; make ;
The build dies on the FiredTV driver for some reason, so turn it off.
  $ sed -ie 's/CONFIG_DVB_FIREDTV=m/CONFIG_DVB_FIREDTV=n/' v4l/.config;
$ make clean; make; sudo make install

Then I shut down, and pulled the power to get a cold boot.
Boot, and try to tune, stracing as we do
  $ sudo strace -t -F -ff dvbscan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/au-Sydney_North_Shore |
tee northshore.conf
It fails with "Unable to query frontend status".
  $ dmesg

The log file is attached as log.dvbscan.20091031

Can confirm "Analog Pilgrim"'s version of the bug above. Occurred
during language pack download/install. Any time there is a bug report
it may turn off new users, so I personally consider this a high
priority.

[Bug 153204] Re: [MASTER] Applications are flickering/flashing in full screen mode

2009-10-30 Thread Travis Watkins
I'm upstream too. :)

When you first start compiz it has to redirect all of your windows so it
can manipulate them. Unredirect Fullscreen Windows makes compiz stop
managing the fullscreen window. This also puts the fullscreen window
above everything else so all the windows compiz is managing will always
draw underneath it. When another window pops up the only way we can show
it is to redirect the fullscreen window again. This is the cause of the
flicker, the window disappears while compiz is taking over drawing of
it.

This option is only useful for drivers that have a naive implementation
of GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap, modern drivers implement so called "zero
copy" texture from pixmap so redirecting the window for compiz to manage
it is basically free.

So while flickering is not the intention there is also no way to stop
the flickering while this option is enabled.

[Bug 466109] [NEW] BUG: Dell Mini 9 wifi driver scheduling while atomic: dbus-daemon/1612/0x00090000

2009-10-30 Thread Fraser Doerksen
Public bug reported:

I tried to install the restricted STA driver for the Broadcom 4312
wireless in my Dell Mini 9 laptop, on a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10
standard edition. After installing 9.10 I applied all updates with
aptitude upgrade, then went to the Restricted Drivers and installed the
STA driver for Broadcom/ Then the utility seemed to freeze up, my Gnome
bars vanished (wallpaper remained) and the Restricted Drivers utility
then lost its theming. It looked like Windows 2000 for a while, until
the utility vanished. The system hung. I forced a power off with the
power button and got the bug report msg upon login.

[Bug 446989] Re: ubiquity slideshow doesn't support RTL

2009-10-30 Thread Dylan McCall
A fix is definitely committed. If you check out the commit history on
lp:ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu, you will see how to run it. The final release for
Karmic did not have the fix, because it's down to Ubiquity to have its own RTL
issue resolved. (Naturally, since it's the installer, it would have been a bad
idea to make that kind of change between an RC and the final release).
The one that landed in Karmic is release #10, which is tagged in the bzr
history on revision 175.

So, sorry about the lack of a fix for Karmic, but on the slideshow's end
a fix is in trunk and good to go for Lucid.

[Bug 466105] [NEW] Sound fails in KDE 4.3.2 + pulseaudio when a sound is played before another finishes

2009-10-30 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: phonon

When a sound is played by a KDE application (KDE system notifications included)
before another sound finishes playing, the second one almost always fails. It
may simply not be played, or it can produce random noises, or it can interrupt
the sound that was playing before.
Pulseaudio is installed and is set as the preferred device for all sound
sources in Systemsettings and xine backend is being used.
The sound card is a Turtlebeach Santa Cruz (Sound Fusion CS46xx).
This did not happen in Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.2.x.

[Bug 456907] Re: need rebuild against latest webkit

2009-10-30 Thread Brian J. Murrell
OK. Just rebuilt it on Karmic final and yay -- builds with the mozjs
that's in xulrunner.

But it still doesn't do anything except render all urls as direct://.

strace of the "proxy" tool shows no evidence that it actually looks for
any proxy configuration in the env, files, gconf, etc.

Is there something more I should need to do than:

echo www.yahoo.com |
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.3
http_proxy="pac+http://linux/proxy.pac"; proxy

You can assume of course that there is a valid proxy.pac at
http://linux/proxy.pac.

[Bug 466101] [NEW] Auto check for updates to: Installed Add-ons not working and missing options

2009-10-30 Thread John Hook
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

and the following options are missing:

'When updates to Firefox are found:"
"Ask me what I want to do"
"Automatically download and install the update"
"Warn me if this will disable any of my add-ons"

Expected Behaviour:

When "Automatically check for updates to: Installed Add-ons" is selected and
updates are found, depending on what options are meant to be
selected in "When updates to Firefox are found:" Firefox should on next start,
provide a notification or perform an install, and then request a restart

Current Behaviour:

No automatic checks, no notifications or prompts for installation,
no update options available.
No indication that the feature is working at all.

(II) MACH64(0): : Using default hsync range of 31.50-37.90
kHz
(II) MACH64(0): : Using default vrefresh range of
50.00-70.00 Hz
(WW) MACH64(0): Unable to estimate virtual size

For this video driver, looks like you're going to have to hardcode your
hsync and vrefresh. X can't detect your monitor's capabilities so is
using defaults, which appear to not fit your monitor capabilities very
well.

[Bug 427653] Re: cups fails on usb-parallel printer

2009-10-30 Thread Alan Herron
re Daniel's comments: Under Intrepid my machine used to get the same
message from lsusb...it listed the "Prolific..." string as you
indicated. When I upgraded to Karmic that disappeared. There is no
listing identifying the Prolific chip specifically like this at all. As
I understand it this ID would be "downstream" of the print driver,
making the choice of driver irrelevant until cleared.

Under Intrepid recognition of the printer wasn't reliable. I sometimes
had to reboot, or unplug / replug the usb connection or turn the printer
off and back on to get the computer to realize it was there. Push the
threshold a bit and you get the behaviour I'm seeing now. I wouldn't
think this would be a software problem, but the effort on Karmic
involved speeding it up. That could have introduced faster timing for
handshaking, and the older Prolific chips became marginal or simply too
slow. A guess.

The following should be taken as coming from someone who has used
computers for a long time, but is not familiar with CUPS at the detail
level involved here:

re the failure after one print: this is a wild shot on my part, but I
just had a similar problem with Open Office spreadsheet. It was
resolved by removing the old configuration directory (which apparently
contained a corrupted file) and letting OO generate a new one. Is it
possible there is a similar problem in, say, a spool directory for you?

By way of possible clues: does the lockup clear if you turn the printer
off and restart it? If so that suggests a handshake signal isn't making
it through or is not being processed to clear the print status. I've
had this happen, for example, if an end-of-page isn't sent to the
printer when the job is complete. The computer "thinks" the job is
done, but the printer is waiting for the "Tha's All Folks" signal to
tidy up. Adding the EOP automatically is usually set as an option in
the printer (driver) config, sometimes in an editor config.

re Geoff's comment: having trouble with networked printers, in the
context of the flaky Prolific recognition, suggests the hardware
recognition problem may be more generic than just the Prolific chip.
Whatever it is something changed in the jump from Intrepid to karmic in
this area. the "fault" is persistent and reproducible.

Hope this is helpful, and not ridiculous in context. A price of
learning is to risk being seen as foolish!

[Bug 466095] [NEW] Updated Ubuntu, detected wrong size moniter

2009-10-30 Thread clemm17
Public bug reported:

Its not just firefox. the whole computer is crashing on full screen. It took me
awhile to figure out what was going on. If I open most apps full screen it goes
black. Themes is all black and wallpaper is not working. Its all black screen
except for the top and bottom task bars and they dissapear full screen.
Ubuntu has mis identified my moniter as an LG 23 inch. Its LG but it is not 23
inch. I think its 21? Everything works 1/2 screen, I did have to reduce the
resoultion. 1680X1050 (16:10) to 1400X900 (16:10)
This helped but it has not resolved the multitude of video problems.
Also this update was in regards to facebook, farm town not working. I could not
update flash enough to work, then After this upgrade it works at 1/2 screen,
but crashes on full screen. I never tried 1/2 screen before, and I really
suspect this was the problem all along.
Thanks Mike

Hmm... I'm not sure I totally understand your description of the problem.
Could you please elaborate and clarify? You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"

[Bug 461470] Re: HDD(s) incorrectly detected

2009-10-30 Thread Puleen Patel
Having the exact same issue as Paul Watkins. The 2 160GB drives are
getting detected as part of a RAID, when the motherboard RAID
configuration is disabled. Using 9.04 Installer sees both drives
separately and allows me to install on individual drives as I want.

Hope this is a bug in the 9.10 Installer. Pretty huge, if it is a bug.
Wonder how many others are affected.

Cheers!
