[Bug 449876] Re: raid degraded after update to Karmic beta

2009-11-25 Thread Tormod Volden
If you have false metadata on the disks, you _should_ remove this.
Meanwhile you can use the nodmraid boot option to ignore all fakeraid
signatures.

[Bug 352118] Re: WPA writes possibly unnecessary messages to the system log

2009-11-25 Thread Alepippirimerlo
[quote]
So one workaround is to simply edit the file:

  /usr/share/dbus-1/system-
services/fi.epitest.hostap.WPASupplicant.service

and remove the -s from from the exec line. This will prevent all
wpa_supplicant messages hitting the syslog, and that is what upstream
wpa_supplicant binaries will do --- the -s option was added by
debian/patches/11_syslog.patch.
[/quote]
that workaround worked for me.

Hi Lucas!

Thank you for your response.

I don't have a lot experience with ubuntu, so, you have any idea where I can
download mpich2 v 1.2.1-1?

Thank you

Mauricio

2009/11/25 Lucas Nussbaum lu...@lucas-nussbaum.net

 Yes, known problem. Please either:
 - use the mpich2 package from lucid (version 1.2.1-1)
 - or run mpd instead of using mpdboot

I'll try to prepare a SRU for karmic, but I'm very busy currently

Yes; this is still present in Tomboy 1.0.0-0ubuntu2 (the version in

sometimes spikes CPU usage and becomes nonresponsive. It doesn't seem to
do it quite as much as it did before, but it's still present.

[Bug 488255] [NEW] [Karmic] X loses keyboard and mouse on selecting Switch User...

2009-11-25 Thread Tuomas Heino
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Choosing Switch User... sometimes results in unresponsive gdm which does not
recognize keyboard/mouse.
Doing a manual startx at that point from console gives the same result - an X
session with no keyboard/mouse.

Possibly related errors from Xorg.*.log:

[config/dbus] couldn't take over org.x.config:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied (Connection :1.106 is not
allowed to own the service org.x.config.display2 due to security
policies in the configuration file)

(EE) config/hal: couldn't initialise context: unknown error (null)

Similar symptoms to Bug #271138

Also the above dbus error message refers to org.x.config.display2, which
is not listed in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/xorg-server.conf

[Bug 241736] Re: support EPUB format

2009-11-25 Thread Norman Hooper
In Kubuntu 9.10, KDE's document viewer, Okular, has ePub support. You
should be able to install it in Ubuntu 9.10 with sudo apt-get install
okular.

Adobe Digital Editions has the best support for CSS in ePubs that I have
seen. Okular does not seem to have support for ePub CSS, which doesn't
affect readability; it just means that if the ePub creator has used
alternative fonts, etc., that styling will be ignored. And Okular is
certainly a lot prettier than FBReader.

You could also consider using Bookworm, which is an online ePub reader
... http://bookworm.oreilly.com/ ... and works perfectly in Firefox,
Chromium and Epiphany.

[Bug 488256] [NEW] Confusing status of Files up to date and Updating files in client

2009-11-25 Thread Jarlath
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

I just started the client and put two folders in the Ubuntu One folder.
The Tooltip tells me it's 'Updating files...' but when I left-click it,
it says 'Files up to date.'

Further, after about 10 minutes of time, there is no indication on the
web interface that my files are arriving. Also, the old folder deleted
from my Ubuntu One in Nautilus, still exists on the web interface.

If I can be of any further help, please ask!

2009-11-25 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Tried it out again. At first I printed a document from OpenOffice.org.
This worked ok. I then tried to print a document from Document Viewer
2.28.1. The printer's display said Dokument wird gedruckt, but even
after more than 10 hours the printer produced no printout.

[Bug 481759] Re: [karmic] Sound disappears on 82801I Audio (Thinkpad X200 and T400) after updates

2009-11-25 Thread Hanspeter Schmid
On my Thinkpad X200 Tablet PC, the behaviour depends on the audio state
of windows.

When I shut windows down with audio silenced, then I will have audio on
the headphone jack only once I boot Ubuntu.

When I shut windows down with audio enabled, then I have audio on the
speakers in Ubuntu.

I am running the Karmic Koala -- all updates made -- which I installed
using WUBI.

Slainte!
Hanspeter

[Bug 482504] Re: Rhythmbox crashes after I hit Previous to go back to specific midi

2009-11-25 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Re: [Bug 446956] Re: Upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 fails with essential package 'ubuntu-minimal' can not be found anymore (mirror overloaded)

2009-11-25 Thread Bas Roufs
2009/11/25 Bert Vorenholt b...@vorenholt.nl

In the last couple of days, I tried a couple of times to upgrade without
 any luck.
After I disabled all third-party repositories, the upgrade is working while
 i'm writing this comment.

About two weeks ago, I finally did manage to upgrade from, in my case,
Kubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 - including all the third party software repositories..
However, I needed to bug-fix something essential a few days after the
upgrade: a package that is essential for the interaction with the video
card. Now, the system is running quite well. Only the sound is again a point
of reflection and research. But I am not yet sure whether this is a hardware
or software problem.

Respectfully yours.

Bas.

Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this
issue exists with the most recent Karmic Koala 9.10 release -

please test the latest upstream kernel build -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Let us know your results. Thanks.

[Bug 487257] Re: UbuntuOne does not sync properly and sometimes not at all

2009-11-25 Thread Juan Melendez
One final bit of information: Last night sync was progressing nicely...
I went to bed at about 12:30am and the service was still downloading
files.

sometime between 12:30am and 6:00am the sync halted/stopped. About 500+
files had synced. Not the full 14,000+ files.

Thanks for everyones hard work so far on this issue by-the-way.

[Bug 483841] Re: Kernel crashes when switching to external monitor with Fn+F5 key (ASUS eeePC 901)

2009-11-25 Thread serg-157
Additional information that might be helpful:
1) The same result (system hangs up) you can get if you use Display dialog
instead of Fn+F5 combination to switch to external monitor (or vise versa);
2) The way how system hangs up is similar to Fn+F2 bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404626);
3) If I use xrandr to change target monitor, it works without any problem
(xrandr --output VGA1 --auto xrandr --output LVDS1 --off)
4) The kernel update 2.6.31-15, that was recently delivered, did not fix ti;
5) If I use ONLY external monitor and put my system to suspend mode closing
netbook lid, it turns on BOTH (VGA and LCD) monitors when wakes up. With Jaunty
it worked correct;

After upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic, I had this problem too. After
eventually tracking down this bug report (took me a while to work out
that mythtv was to blame!), I followed the instructions from comment
#17, and that fixed the problem for me.

[Bug 488267] [NEW] ffmpeg should be built with -marm for lucid on armel

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ffmpeg

ffmpeg contains significant optimised assembler, which it does not make
sense to build in Thumb-2 until/unless some manual re-optimisation work
is done.

For now, it is probably sensible to build the whole package with -marm

[Bug 480564] Re: Fails to mount hibernated windows partition, and falls into endless loop

2009-11-25 Thread markusj
Same here, booting Karmic with a hibernated WinXP results in high cpu-loads and
harddisk I/O caused by devkit-disks-daemon and gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor.
Killing mountall brings this tortoure to an end.
The in #2 mentioned error message does not only appear while booting, manually
invoking mountall leads to the same endless output.

[Bug 471316] Re: ubuntuone-client does not sync server files to pc on clean install

2009-11-25 Thread Joshua Hoover
Hi Rachael,

Is this still an issue for you? You should not have to add a file to
your ~/Ubuntu One folder for files on the server to show up after
reinstalling the client. The only time this would be an issue
(currently) is if you add files via the web and have your client
running. In this case, you need to restart the Ubuntu One client for
files to show up.

Thank you,

Joshua

[Bug 465349] Re: /etc/gdm/Xsession does not call /etc/X11/Xsession

2009-11-25 Thread aporter
Removing the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99x11-common_start did not work

My workaround was to add: STARTUP=$HOME/.xsession to
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/99x11-common_start but that will give you an error
if you *don't* have an .xsession file.

This gets more amusing. I've now degraded from a twit to a moron. For all your
chivalry of not attacking an unarmed opponent, you sure have no reservations
about calling people names.

Back on topic, the bug was opened by a user who did not have the nautilus-share
package installed, which was prior to the time when nautilus-share was installed
by default. As mentioned in /usr/share/doc/ubuntu-desktop/changelog.gz, the
change was made to Ubuntu Hardy (8.04), on the 31st of March, 2008, and hence
should be installed by default from Ubuntu 8.04 onwards. Hence it is marked fix
released.

What PeterNZ was talking about seems to be something entirely different, since
he did mention he has nautilus-share installed. And then you come along,
throwing insults at me in an undignified manner and then contradicting yourself
by saying you don't want to attack unarmed opponents, and saying something
along the lines of sudo. Incidentally, I still don't get what you were trying to
tell PeterNZ to run as sudo, and you still haven't clarified yourself on that
either.

Re: [Bug 485131] Re: it happens with all Radio France channels programs and this is the first time in more than 2 yrs. Unsuccessful is displayed immediately. No waiting possible.

2009-11-25 Thread Anne Guedes
Hi Pedro ! Thank you very much for answering me. I'll try to describe
better the situation.
I've been using for 2 years Rhythmbox to podcast from Radio France
(France Culture). I never had problems, but RF eventually sometimes has
(for example files names too long).
So when 12 days back I couldn't podcast any RF program I thought the
problem was RF. But it lasted for days and RF wouldn't answer my e-mails
about how long it would be so.
I tried to podcast programs coming from other RF radios. It didn't work
as well.
Then I ask someone who uses Windows and iTunes to experiment and it worked.
Finally I tried to podcast programs from a private radio (Europe 1p) and
it worked.
This is why I think that either RF or a Rhythmbox update changed some
protocol.
Now what happens when I open Rhythmbox :
The new programs appear immediately with their duration, a red (no way)
sign in front and the mention failed. When I open properties details
it indicates not downloaded and gives this source, for example,
http://rf.proxycast.org/m/media/296096201420/c=culture/p=France+Culture+-+Les+matins+de+France+Culture_10075/l3=20091125/l4=/http:/media.radiofrance-podcast.net/podcast09/10075-25.11.2009-ITEMA_20205409-0.mp3
I'm afraid I can't say more. I'm a nullity concerning informatics !
Thanks for helping me,
Anne CG

 2. the behavior you expected, and
 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

[Bug 454840] Re: K9copy on Karmic segementation fault on wizard

2009-11-25 Thread Slick
I've tried it on a fresh install in a vm as well as on Fedora 12 same
problem

I'm going to roll my vm back to 9.04 just to make sure that didn't have
any problem I wasn't seeing.

[Bug 359177] Re: Strange or obsolete code in mysql initscript

2009-11-25 Thread Alexey Sveshnikov
Hi again.

The original point of this bug is that initscript have code for killing
MySQL but this code is disabled in rather strange way (by putting
log_end_msg 1, see the first post). I think this code should be disabled
in more obvioius way or removed at all.

[Bug 441835] Re: [Karmic] floppy is not working (Ubuntu 9.10)

2009-11-25 Thread Martin Pitt
From the udev side, everything seems to be okay. Sergios' dmesg has

[80538.492091] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
[81237.645087] floppy0: data CRC error: track 5, head 0, sector 2, size 2
[81237.845784] floppy0: data CRC error: track 5, head 0, sector 2, size 2

which looks slightly disturbing, but it could be a side-effect of
probing.

Can you please do

  devkit-disks --dump /tmp/dk-disks.txt

and attach /tmp/dk-disks.txt here? After that, please do

  devkit-disks --monitor-detail /tmp/dk-disks.log

then insert a floppy, try to mount it in GNOME (do you have an icon for
it?), then press Control-C, and attach /tmp/dk-disks.log, too.

[Bug 488283] [NEW] Entire computer freezes when moving a terminal

2009-11-25 Thread Benjamin Redelings
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am using a fresh Ubuntu installation with Compiz turned off. About
twice a day the entire system freezes right after I drag a terminal
window around on the desktop. The computer then responds to pings, but
cannot be logged into using ssh. Nothing was left in the system log
files either. So, it seems that this has to be some kind of bug in the
fglrx kernel module, or at least in the way it is access by the fglrx
driver.

To reproduce, grab the title bar of a gnome-terminal window, and wave
the window around. The redrawing is a bit jerky, and can sometimes
cause the bug described here.

[Bug 488282] [NEW] MP3 file for audio CD is rejected, instead of plugin installation

2009-11-25 Thread joux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I tried to burn an audio CD from mp3 files by
- creating an audio CD project
- Dragging the mp3 files from nautilus

Problem:
Brasero complained File type is not suitable for audio CD (free translation
from german)

When I tried to play the file in Totem, it asked to install some non-
free gstreamer plugins. After this, both Totem and Brasero could play /
burn mp3 files.

Expected behaviour:
Brasero should not reject mp3 files, but rather ask if the user wants to
install some non-free plugins, as Totem does.

Ubuntu 9.10
Brasero 2.28.2

I had similar problems on an MSI based laptop. Since the recent updates
to 2.6.31-15 the external microphone now works as microphone 1 and the
internal one as microphone 2. Before the above update, I couldn't
connect the external Mic port at all.

Tried the backports solution with no success and I had boot problems
here as well.
