[Bug 492810] Re: Nautilus uses 100% cpu after downloading torrent

2009-12-07 Thread Azraele
Well I'll do my best to find a procedure but the strange thing is that i
don't have really to do anything to make the problem happen, in fact
yesterday I killed nautilus (because of the unbelievable size) then I
started it again (since to have a nautilus process I don't really need
to open a file browsing window, I have one since the system boot, it's
the desktop one i think, problem is when I boot it is 24 megs big and
then it starts growing like a pie) and left it opened overnight with
ktorrent downloading. Since I am the only user of the pc, I can solidly
state that nobody touched it all the night: without any action it grows
by himself. Nonetheless I will left it opened with strace, problem is
when i give the command :

strace -Ff -tt -p <14226> 2>&1 | tee strace-.log

where 14226 is the process id it gives me this output:

bash: syntax error near unexpected token `14226'

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 493789] [NEW] Can't edit original message when replying to HTML mail

2009-12-07 Thread Andreas Sandberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Sometimes when I reply to an email that contains HTML Evolution doesn't
let me edit the quoted original message. The message is quoted with
badly misaligned '>' characters. When trying to insert answers into the
message it is impossible to 'break' the quotation.

The message in question was (probably) original created using Yahoo's
webmail on a Mac. The message is contained within two nested tables(!)
(only 1 row an column each table). I can sanitize (i.e. remove the
actual message) and attach a copy of the message on request.

I see the same problem. Even just adding "set gfxpayload=640x480", i.e.
setting it to the same as the default resolution, is enough to reproduce
the blinking cursor in the upper-left corner. I have an Intel 965

[Bug 6620] Re: Mplayer -stop-xscreensaver doesn't work with gnome-screensaver

2009-12-07 Thread QkiZ
There is an option in what is called heartbeat-cmd in MPlayer, which
calls the command every half minute. I wrote a script that appears to be
pressing the shift key, using the command xdotool. I called it
"shiftpress". Script:

nice -n 1 xdotool key shift

Then I set the option heartbeat-cmd in file ~ /.mplayer /config:

heartbeat-cmd="shiftpress"

During movie playback MPlayer will run the script "shiftpress". Command
xdotool emulates shift press and the screensaver is deferred.

How long does it take, till a fixed and commited bug gets into Ubuntu?

[Bug 493785] [NEW] switching to Extra visual effects causes long delay

2009-12-07 Thread Tormod Volden
Public bug reported:

When I choose "Extra" in Visual Effects preferences, the "Searching for

it scans for drivers for all kind of hardware which seems totally
unnecessary, but the timestamps in the log does not cover the whole
waiting time. Never mind that I have a perfectly working driver

[Bug 493786] [NEW] unreleased usage of kernel module video1394

2009-12-07 Thread Joerg Mueller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libdc1394-22

Every time I start receiving images from a dc1394 camera using
libdc1394, the entry "Used by" of video1394 displayed by lsmod is
incremented by 3. When the camera capture is released when the receiving
program is quit, the entry is decremented by 2. This also happens when
using coriander to capture images. The only way to release the remaining
usages was to reboot the system.

I would expect the usage counter to be only incremented by 2 when a
camera capture is started as I observed in Ubuntu 9.04.

[Bug 223281] Re: locale._parse_localename fails when localename does not contain encoding information (was: alacarte crashed with ValueError in _parse_localename() )

2009-12-07 Thread Jonathan Marsden
Added karmic-proposed repository per instructions, sudo apt-get
upgraded, tested.

Seems to work fine for me on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic amd64.

Specifics:

dpkg -l python2.6 show3s it installed:
ii python2.6 2.6.4-0ubuntu3 An interactive
high-level object-oriented language (version 2.6)

for i in $(locale -a) ; do echo $i ; LANG=$i python -c "import locale;
print locale.getdefaultlocale()" || break ; done

runs to completion, on a machine with all available language packs
installed (so LOTS of locales). So does

for i in $(locale -a) ; do echo $i ; LANG=$i python -c "import locale;
locale.setlocale(locale.LC_ALL, "")" || break ; done

Running software-center works as expected.

No issues observed (in admittedly fairly minimal testing).

[Bug 493590] Re: install python-setuptools in python 2.5 crashes

2009-12-07 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
This is an intended behavior of pycentral to not overwrite locally
installed python modules.

You can either remove the version previously installed or set overwrite-
local=1 in /etc/python/debian_config .

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 417757] Re: [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups

2009-12-07 Thread Schreiber
I could not use google-earth on kubuntu 9.10 64 - fresh install. The
program starts but I get a server-connect-error. I tried for days
different solutions. But nothing works.

Problem completely solved by specifying Opendns as my DNS servers
(https://store.opendns.com/setup/device/ubuntu/). I did not have this
problem when running Jaunty or hardy.

[Bug 444290] Re: ccache causes DKMS builds to fail

2009-12-07 Thread Mike S
I've had three systems now affected by this bug, when building
nvidia-190 kernel modules. Same issue with nvidia-185 as well, this
seems highly related to bug 438393 as noted above, but since it does not
involve the environment variables I'm posting here.

The build fails with the same make.log as 438393 "The C compiler
'/usr/local/bin/cc' does not appear to be able to create executables",
in this case a link to ccache. The referenced bug also mentions that
dkms tries to run as user nobody, running as nobody ccache tries to
create a cache at "/nonexistent/.ccache" which of course fails. Hope
this is helpful.

2009-12-07 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Hmmm... Scott assigned this bug to the cryptsetup package, but I still believe
it's an upstart / initscripts issue.
Cryptsetup does its job good, but I believe there is an order or
synchronization issue with the way the initscripts or Upstart call cryptsetup /
fsck / mount of encrypted filesystems (i.e. try to mount them before activating
the encrypted volumes).

Apologies for the confusion; I was not refuting the patch, but merely
responding to the mention of the time passed since my initial report.
The patch works for me, but as I said earlier, I cannot ascribe that
solely to the patch, as the situations in which the applets would
rearrange arise far less often these days.

Regards, and thanks for the continued effort,

[Bug 473543] Re: Group Plugin and Animations

2009-12-07 Thread Tim Tierney
I've discovered the exact cause for the animation failure.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Activate Animations plugin.
2. Activate Group And Tab Windows plugin.
3. Tab two windows together.
4. Hover over the title bar of grouped windows and drag a Window away causing
them to un-tab.
5. Animations stop working.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: compiz

  Ubuntu 9.10

This is just a visual thing, not a big deal. But I noticed that if I
enable Tab & Groups Window plugin in Compiz, Some animations fail. For
- example fading and dodging. Log off and log on are required to fix the
- animations.
+ example fading and dodging. Complete restart of Compiz is required to
+ repair.

[Bug 493778] [NEW] Running a 3d app (eg. glxgears) crashes Linux with Radeon 9200

2009-12-07 Thread Justin Husted
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This machine ran Jaunty fine with Compiz 3d etc.

When I updated to Karmic, compiz stopped working. It ran with software
rendering. However, glxgears appeared to have hardware acceleration.

Today I updated with the latest karmic updates and tried again -- it was
now fully software rendering in all cases. So, just to give it a shot,
I pulled out an old PCI rage card that was sitting unused in the
computer (this was originally used for dual head, but Xorg started
segfaulting when I enabled dual head sometime around Hardy or Intrepid).
Now, when I run glxgears in Xorg, the screen goes dark and Linux
crashes.

It appears to hard-lock in X11, though behavior varies. Typically the
screen goes black immediately and goes into DPMS sleep. One time the
screen went black, but I was able to ssh in and saw X11 using 100% of
CPU. When I killed X the machine crashed. Another time, X was frozen
except the mouse would update once per second, and the machine crashed
on killing X. All other attempts, Linux has crashed instantly as soon
as I run "glxgears."

Linux is completely crashed in these cases, and won't even respond to
SysRq.

[Bug 412779] Re: smplayer doesn`t switch off screensaver when playing movies

2009-12-07 Thread rvm
The only thing that smplayer does when the option "disable screensaver"
is checked, is to pass the option -stop-xscreensaver to mplayer.

So check if -stop-xscreensaver is really passed to mplayer (you can see
it in the mplayer log: Options -> View logs). If that option is not
passed then it's a bug in smplayer. Otherwise it's a problem of mplayer.

Anyway it's a known problem that recent versions of mplayer fail to
disable the gnome screensaver. For that you have to use the -heartbeat-
cmd (and even that may not work).

[Bug 493776] [NEW] qtoctave depends on octave-3.0 instead of octave-3.2

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qtoctave

It seems that octave-3.2 is available on the default xubuntu
repositories. Yet qtoctave depends on 3.0 (older version). I would
think that qtoctave should be adjusted to work with 3.2, if possible.
