[Bug 495101] [NEW] Anonymous mmap crashes with SIGSEGV
Public bug reported: This (possible) bug is not related to any package but to the libc itself maybe (or the kernel or whatever). When executing this program on Kubuntu 9.10: #include signal.h #include stdio.h #include stdlib.h #include sys/mman.h void segfault_handler(int num) { fprintf(stderr, Segfault happened, exiting.\n); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } int main(void) { signal(SIGSEGV, segfault_handler); for (int i = 0; i 0x8048000; i += 4096) { printf(Mapping 0x%08X... , i); fflush(stdout); printf(Mapped to: 0x%08X\n, (unsigned int)mmap((void *)i, 4096, PROT_EXEC | PROT_READ | PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE | MAP_ANONYMOUS | MAP_FIXED, -1, 0)); } return EXIT_SUCCESS; } (compiled it with gcc mmap.c -Wall -Wextra -std=gnu99 -pedantic -Xlinker -Ttext -Xlinker 0x7000 -m32 -o mmap) I get the message Segmentation Fault., the position varies. I tried it under openSuSE 11.2 and it works. I tried it under Linux from Scratch 6.5 (kernel 2.6.30.9) and it works, too. Note that the segfault is not handled: The message is not Segfault happened, exiting but simply Segmentation Fault.. I think this behavior is incorrect, because the mmap manpage says: On success, mmap() returns a pointer to the mapped area. On error, the value MAP_FAILED (that is, (void *) -1) is returned, and errno is set appropriately. So I expect something like this: Mapping 0x0011C000... Mapped to: 0x and not Mapping 0x0011C000... Segmentation Fault. Though the manpage also tells me: Use of a mapped region can result in these signals: SIGSEGV - Attempted write into a region mapped as read- only. But that's about the use of a mmap'ed region and not about the call itself. Furthermore this SIGSEGV should be at least catchable. OK, the manpage also says: By default, any process can be killed at any moment when the system runs out of memory. But first of all a SIGKILL (killing a process sounds like sending SIGKILL to me) is in my opinion not equal to a SIGSEGV and second, the system doesn't run out of memory (because first of all mmap shouldn't really allocate the memory (as far as I know) and second the addresses are below the size of free memory available (the program never stops for example at 10 MB and free tells me there are still 50 MB of free memory). By the way: You may remove the -Xlinker -Ttext -Xlinker 0x7000 part, but I need it for another program hence I compiled this test program with those parameters (it also dies without these parameters). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Anonymous mmap crashes with SIGSEGV https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495101 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 495102] [NEW] metacity causes openoffice.org-presenter-console to be displayed on wrong screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity I'm cross-posting this bug report because I think it's actually a METACITY bug and not an xorg bug. Original bug report (with all debugging attachements) located at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492861 My text of the bug report: Using the latest ati drivers on a Rv535 (Mobility Radeon X2300) video card. When using metacity and trying to display an openoffice impress presentation with a dual monitor setup, the presenter console is displayed on top of the presentation. That is on top of the actual presentation on the second monitor. This is obviously useless and incorrect. The presenter-console should be displayed on the laptop (monitor 1) while the presentation should be displayed on the external monitor (monitor 2). Interestingly, when I switch window managers to compiz, the behaviour of the presenter console **magically** is corrected and does not over lay on the single monitor (monitor 2). It behaves as expected. I know this presenter console worked with the FGLRX driver in Hardy Intrepid. So, I'm thinking that the xorg-xserver-ati (xorg-xserver- radeon) driver is mis-specifying the monitor 1/monitor 2 designation in how openoffice.org is quering xorg-xserver-ati? [Bug 495103] [NEW] Can't print with missing fonts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince Evince seems to print PDF using non-installed (and non included) fonts, but in fact, it's printing nothing. The printer even reacts and seems to warm up, but then... nothing. Just like if it was receiving an empty document. And on the computer, it reports the print as fine. The only way to print PDF is to actually print the PDF document in a PDF file, and then print this new file. The newly created PDF file has new included fonts to replace the missing ones. So it's printing without any problem. What should happen: -Evince should at least warn the user that it cannot print the document without having the fonts. It should NOT send an empty document to the printer and let the user think everything is all right. OR -Evince should warn the user (the fonts used in this document are not installed on this computer nor included in the document, so they are replaced by a default font which may look different, something like that) and replace the missing fonts with default ones, and then print. [Bug 489264] Re: MIR for python-tickcount.
This is a trivial package (both code and packaging-wise). No bugs, no changes in a long time. It would be nice if the server team subscribed to Ubuntu bugmail. I noticed that the existing target to run the tests was outdated and was not even being run. I applied the following diff to run the suite: -common-post-build-indep:: - PYTHONPATH=lib ./test_all.py +binary-install/python-tickcount:: + PYTHONPATH=$(cdbs_python_destdir)/usr/lib/pyshared/python$(cdbs_python_current_version) python test_tickcount.py And got: == FAIL: test_difference_wrap (__main__.TickCountTestCase) -- Traceback (most recent call last): File test_tickcount.py, line 44, in test_difference_wrap self.assertEqual(tickcount.difference(oldcount, newcount), 20) AssertionError: 21 != 20 -- Ran 2 tests in 0.001s So I'm not approving because that suggests something is wrong. If that's fixed (either by fixing a bug or fixing the testsuite -- in either case it would be nice if the above patch were included so this would get caught in the future), it'd be approved. ** Changed in: tickcount (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: tickcount (Ubuntu) Assignee: Michael Terry (mterry) = (unassigned) -- MIR for python-tickcount. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/489264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 487575] Re: xvfb depends on HAL and fails to start
I've seen this, and it appears to be due to having /etc/dbus-1/system.d /xorg-server.conf from xserver-xorg-core. After uninstalling xserver- xorg-core, things work again. Of course, if you need both xserver-xorg- core and Xvfb, then this won't work for you--you'll probably have to edit the dbus config. -- xvfb depends on HAL and fails to start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/487575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 486157] Re: Merge xtide 2.10-2 (universe) from Debian testing (main)
I used to do some work on the xtide package, as I remember I added an icon and at desktop file and stuff like that.
