[Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2009-12-29 Thread falk
Hi,

I installed a completely new ubuntu 9.10 Karmic and followed the advice
of #61 Woko. But the dual view does not work. X can not find any device
and uses always the failsafe config of xorg.conf.

do you guys have any advice? many thanks in advance.

(PS.: before all of this, I have had ubuntu 9.04, later updated to 9.10 and
changed the graiph driver patched by andi. the dual view has worked. but the
update to 9.10 has raised more other problems, so I formatted all and did above
- a new installation of 9.10 ).

[Bug 114375] Re: [needs-packaging] LanguageTool, a grammar checker for OpenOffice.org

2009-12-29 Thread Pander
Please, make LanguageTool.jar directly available by the installation process of
this package. Language Tool can be used as a stand alone application as can be
seen here:
  http://www.languagetool.org/usage/
The OXT fie from OpenOffice needs to be unzipped somewhere in order to offer
this. Perhaps /usr/share/languagetool would be a proper location. Note that
deinstalling or upgrading the OXT will have to be reflected in the unzipped
version.

Also /usr/bin or /usr/sbin should offer a shell script called languagetool that
will call
  java -jar /usr/share/languagetool/LanguageTool.jar
with all arguments provieded to the shell script.

Makeing the JAR available in the proposed way will allow users to access
the functionality directly from the command line. This will offer
LanguageTool functionality also outside of OpenOffice.

[Bug 501271] [NEW] Unmounted USB storage still shown in Computer devices but cannot be accessed

2009-12-29 Thread f3a97
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi,
I noticed that karmic's nautilus has a weird behaviour with USB storage.

Basically:

1) plug a USB storage device into your USB port
2) after a while, nautilus pops up showing the content of the device and the
device itself is shown on nautlius left pane (resources)
3) unmount the drive, clicking on the eject button

After this step, the USB device disappear from the nautilus resources,
which I might assume is a correct behaviour.

If you go to the computer section, you still see it! If you click on it,
nothing happens. This is very misleading, because the user see the USB
device but cannot access it.

If you remove the USB device from the USB port, it actually disappear
from the Computer section too.

The expected behaviour IMHO should be that:

- either the USB device is not shown anywhere, after the eject
- or the USB device remains visible into the Computer view (as currently
happens), but if the user clicks on it, the device gets mounted again

  Hi,
- I noticed that karmic's nautilus has a weird behaviour with USB storage.
+   I noticed that karmic's nautilus has a weird behaviour with USB storage.

[Bug 479179] Re: mouse left and right click events are disabled in gnome session after changing to sugar session

2009-12-29 Thread Tomeu Vizoso
Question still remains. Why does Sugar change this setting?

Looks like the compiz gconf backend is listening for changes in metacity
key bindings and changing its own keybindings accordingly. This is
because integration with GNOME is activated.

[Bug 472245] Re: gnome-panel hangs with almost 100% CPU usage

2009-12-29 Thread JPM
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 187540 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187540

I also have this issue at the moment. Ubuntu 9.10, 64bit. Gnome-panel
has a cpu usage of between 80 and 100% and is unusable.

I plugged one of my ntfs hdd's out yesterday. It does have a fstab
entry. Will replug it now and check what happens.

AND IT WORKED!

Everything is fine now. Thus, this is not a duplicate bug. This is a bug
samewhere between gnome-panel - fstab - fuse - ntfs-3g.

My ntfs-3g version is: 2009.11.14 integrated FUSE 27

My fstab line for the ntfs hdd looks as follows: /dev/sdb1 /media/250B
ntfs user 0 0

[Bug 501277] [NEW] gdb catch syscall doesn't work, missing syscalls/amd64-linux.xml

2009-12-29 Thread skierpage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdb

Kubuntu 9.10 amd64.
gdb package 7.0-0ubuntu1

I was trying to break on a system call.
http://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb/Set-Catchpoints.html
#Set-Catchpoints suggests the way you do this is `catch syscall foo` and
claims you can use tab completion.

But I couldn't get this to work. Typing
  catch syscall optab
prints 'warning: Could not open syscalls/amd64-linux.xml' . Typing
  catch syscall open
prints Unknown syscall name 'open' . Typing
  catch syscall 2
prints warning: The number '2' does not represent a known syscall.

Sure enough I do not have a /usr/share/gdb/ directory or the file
/usr/share/gdb/syscalls/amd64-linux.xml and it's not listed in
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/amd64/gdb/filelist

The workaround: I found this file in sourceware.org's CVS, downloaded
it, installed it as root in the expected location, restarted gdb and
then all these commands work as expected.

Please could the files intended for /usr/share/gdb/syscalls be included
in the Ubuntu gdb package? Thank you.

[Bug 414560] Re: ath9k disassociates/reassociates a lot

2009-12-29 Thread _oOMOo_
@Roy Lee - I share your sentiments, NetworkManager adds 3 seconds to
pings (and other packets I assume) every couple of minutes; WICD doesn't
exhibit this behaviour. It is very noticeable when browsing etc., and
happens on the ath5k chip I use on another laptop too. Why not let the
user decide when to scan?

On another note, the backports modules does seem to have fixed the poor
wireless performance for me.

[Bug 500520] Re: Some essential services are not started

2009-12-29 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Thank you Heineken. Downgrading to upstart 0.6.3-10 solved the issue for me,
too.
It looks as if the changes made in 0.6.3-11 (wait until the loopback device is
up?) keep upstart from working properly on some systems.
There are several reports of this issue on the forum.

[Bug 498532] Re: No VFS entries in the sidebar of QGtkStyle's GtkFileChooser

2009-12-29 Thread Sense Hofstede
Apologises for the delay of this response. I didn't have much time lately due
to foreseen circumstances, I hope you understand.
I also didn't see through this bug completely and didn't interpret the symptoms
correctly right away.

The file chooser dialogue is not a part of Nautilus, but of the GTK+ project.
However, when using GtkFileChooserDialog, the VFS entries should be added
correctly to the sidebar.
The bug you reported is in the GTK+ -- a graphical toolkit -- integration of Qt
-- another graphical toolkit, called QGtkStyle. It tries to draw Qt
applications with GTK+ and uses GtkFileChooser to draw the file chooser. This
is where the bug lies.

[Bug 393430] Re: kvm: use PulseAudio instead of ALSA

2009-12-29 Thread Arie Skliarouk
I added export QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=pa to the /etc/default/libvirt-bin and
looks like that the parameter is passed to the KVM, as the KVM does not
use the /dev/snd/* directly. But then audio from KVM works for couple of
seconds only (enough to hear the startup audio from windows, but not
much more than that)! Also, in this case the KVM does not appear in list
of the pulse-audio configuration applet (under Running applications).

If I use export QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=alsa in /etc/default/libvirt-bin, then
KVM uses the /dev/snd/* devices and audio from the KVM works (with all
the known limitations).

use the /dev/snd/* directly.

[Bug 457654] Re: Guake appears at the middle of the screen and not in the top of the screen

2009-12-29 Thread Felix Zweig
Thanks for the workaround. However, it also affects Guake's preferences dialog,
which is placed at the top left corner, too. Any ideas about that?
Thanks!

[Bug 501261] Re: No video, only sound, in totem after upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10

2009-12-29 Thread olof
vlc affects it the same way as gxine does. Videos run fine in gxine and
vlc. They also run fine in totem _if_ I have gxine _or_ vlc running in
the background.

I'm not competent enough to conclude anything about codecs from this
information.

[Bug 501117] Re: jokosher does not open in 10.4

2009-12-29 Thread SevenMachines
seems not to affect debian
in, Jokosher/ui/StatusBar.py, def __init__(self):

there is

# gtk.Statusbar contains a label inside a frame inside itself
self.label = self.get_children()[0].get_children()[0]
self.label.set_use_markup(True)

self.get_children()[0].get_children()[0] is return a gtk.HBox so this
fails

jokosher works when the 2 lines above are commented so i'm guessing the
problem is here, someone who knows some python would need to take a look
at this

[Bug 501294] [NEW] [Karmic] Shutdown/restart from gnome menu does not work

2009-12-29 Thread Marcerino
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: policykit

After upgrade to Karmic, I can no longer shutdown or restart from the
gnome session menu. When chosing shutdown, the system logs out, but
comes back to the gnome login screen.

There is a WARNING/ERROR in /var/log/daemon.log:

Dec 29 12:59:39 purple gnome-session[1841]: WARNING: Unable to stop
system: Not privileged for action:
org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop no

I tried changing lines in the config files:
/usr/local/share/PolicyKit/policy/org.freedesktop.consolekit.policy
and
/usr/share/PolicyKit/policy/org.freedesktop.policykit.policy

Both had:
 action id=org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop
descriptionStop the system/description
messageSystem policy prevents stopping the system/message
defaults
  allow_inactiveno/allow_inactive
  allow_activeyes/allow_active
/defaults
  /action

but changes allow_inactive to 'yes' does not fix the problem.

[Bug 501034] Re: Volume Control wrong for 5.1 sound

2009-12-29 Thread someNewb
thanks for the suggestions, but it did not help

i tried configuring load-module module-alsa-sink control=PCM but it
didn't help. the sound became all shuttery and weird and there is now no
control bar for subwoofer at all. every other control disappeared and
there is only left/right

BTW, if i understood correctly, module-alsa-sink removes all the
sliders and adds only single one.. but i want to have controls for my
subwoofer..or am i getting it wrong? where can i find what kind of
separate controls can i add under module-alsa-sink? i didn't find any
specification on this, so now i only know that i can add control=PCM,
control=front and that's all. it would be handy to add controls to all
of my channels

i am going to apport-collect 501034 right now
