[Bug 513131] [NEW] missing cmd64x driver in kernel-tree for PPC arch.

2010-01-26 Thread grof
Public bug reported:

Missing cmd64x driver in kernel-tree for PPC arch.

Without this kernel modul you can not start up hard discs on blue&white G3 Mac
PowerPC.
I made workaround and describe problem in this post:
http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8731226&postcount=27

Please, can you include cmd64x driver in kernel-tree of next ubuntu
release (10.04) (it exist in kernel source code but it isn't compiled)

As a digression, in kernel source exist pata_cmd64x driver too, which
works well, but problem is that pata_cmd64x is in naming drives as SCSI
devices (/dev/sdx) and this naming nomenclature confusing yaboot and PPC
can not be booted after install Ubuntu.

>From other side, cmd64x driver naming devices as standard IDE (/dev/hdx)
what do not confuse yaboot!

[Bug 164719] Re: muse sequencer -new version

2010-01-26 Thread Eric Hedekar
Fabrice, attached is the diff.gz for muse_1.0.1-0ubuntu1
and the upstream tarball can be got from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmuse/files/muse-1.0/muse-1.0/muse-1.0.1.tar.gz/download

The debdiff will inevitably contain all the source code changes from
0.8.1a to 1.0.1 making it impossible to review (I didn't realize it was
a 15+ line file when I attached it earlier, sorry).

I haven't gone through the debian packaging and refined it at all, and I
do notice some lintian warnings regarding maintainer address and watch
file that would be easy enough to fix. Let me know if you'd like to to
adjust those.

[Bug 513120] [NEW] Can /etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop be dropped?

2010-01-26 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Right now, pulseaudio is started about three or four times during boot
[1], which wastes precious cycles.

For example, /etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop runs /usr/bin/start-
pulseaudio-x11, which is a shell script which in turn calls pulseaudio
(which exits after a while since it is already running), and then loads
three additional modules with pactl.

Can these three modules just go into /etc/pulse/default.pa, and the
autostart desktop and start-pulseaudio-x11 be dropped?

Facundo,

Thanks a lot for coming back to me on this one! I did not expect that, quite
frankly. Ubuntu holds its mark indeed.

I will give the proposed solution a go and let you know. Thanks again.

[Bug 499399] Re: unable to install or start as live-cd daily build 22.12.09 Lucid

2010-01-26 Thread Irihapeti
No improvement on the message of 2010-01-17, using the alternate CD
image of 24 January and just doing a command-line install.

I got a glimpse of part of a message "NAK bailout" before the recovery
menu screen covered it up.

Also, it's affecting my network hardware.

The ethernet temporarily acquires a new MAC address, ethernet address of
eth1 instead of eth0, and a new IP address from the router (which thinks
it's a different machine). This is a nuisance because I'm running a
couple of server packages on it and it confuses the other computers on
the LAN.

Turning the power off at the wall restores the address etc to normal.

[Bug 410792] Re: Rhythmbox: Song progress and Search bars should be in the same VBox

2010-01-26 Thread Dylan McCall
Very much opposed to this change. The alignment of the search box and
filters with the music library communicates that the two are related. By
pushing it over, with the currently playing track stealing the highlight
(assuming a left-to-right locale) to boot, that doesn't happen. This
VBox now has two completely different roles and is not visually aligned
with anything.

That's not to say I disagree with tinkering with the UI. To start off,
my claim that the search-related buttons are positioned sanely points at
another thing: the playback controls are detached from the playing
track. If two things are going to share a row, perhaps it should be
those. This demands some deeper thinking, though, not just pushing the
blocks as they are...

2010-01-26 Thread Seth
I get the same problem.
If I go to another console while the shutdown screen is frozen, then press
ctrl-alt-del I get
some error messages about pulse audio and then plymouth, then the message that
the system will reboot.

anyone know how I can see or enable looging at shutdown so I can post an
exact message?

Howdy DustWolf: are you aware if this patch has been passed on to the

please do so? It is *much* easier for Ubuntu to pick up patches
directly from upstream if necessary.

When do you think it can be uploaded to Karmic? IMO, this is a serious
bug that would prevent a new user from saving new scans - the raison

There is no problem with my system. Prefer to use the console mostly.
When GUI is needed, use no session, only openbox window manager from startx.

If I used openbox-session or lubuntu, guessing that this bug would still not be
fixed.
Is it ubuntu policy that you must use a session manager ?

[Bug 472232] Re: Invest applet leaves border on desktop background

2010-01-26 Thread Rich Mirch
I found an issue with the window hint in the investment list window. For
an unknown reason when using the WINDOW_TYPE_HINT_DOCK hint the window
manager leaves a frame shadow after the investment list window is

[Bug 507211] Re: linux (2.6.32-10.14) - "delay first lookup of the battery until first use" confuses KDE battery management

2010-01-26 Thread zigi
@Andy thank you for your work.

My test case:
Boot system (KUBUNTU - 10.04 Lucid) with AC adapter plugged in.
Baterry widget and PowerDevil report "Battery: not present".
After unplugging AC adapter system detects battery.
Plug AC adapter to notebook.

[Bug 452874] Re: inline images do not go out when sending emails in evolution

2010-01-26 Thread Jeremy Visser
antoiner: thanks for the link to the patch. It is pretty much the
responsibility for the package maintainer to simply apply the patch. (It
is as simple as running 'apt-get source evolution-rss', adding the patch
to debian/patches, and uploading the source package.)

I'm familiar with building packages for myself, but not participating in
proper package maintenance. So here's a debdiff for Lucid which contains
the patch — not sure if it will be useful or not. I can also provide one
for Karmic on request, but again — I don't know whether making them is a
wasted effort or not.

[Bug 464648] Re: Broadcom STA wireless driver package installation crashes the system

2010-01-26 Thread adempewolff
I'm not sure if I have the same problem, as my system did not crash
immediately after enabling the sta driver. Rather, it appears to work
perfectly. However I have been having frequent kernel panics, which I
am thinking more and more are relating the the wireless driver, as they
seem to happen only when using wireless and most frequently during
periods of high Internet access (downloading large files, etc.). As the
bcmwl module is the only thing that is in kernel-space and would be
affected by higher periods of internet use. Its definitely a ghost of a
bug I've been chasing, but it has affected multiple installations of
Karmic on this laptop (Dell Latitude D630). I'm going to try compiling
the driver myself as it looks like broadcom released a new version on
9/17 which may have not made it into Karmic...

[Bug 507770] Re: Cannot boot 9.10 with ACPI support on Intel DH55TC mb

2010-01-26 Thread nin2jardin
Hello,

I don't have the same motherboard but it is an ASUS P7H55D-M EVO based on the
same chipset and a core i3-540.
I have the same freeze both in amd64 and i386 flavours.
I tested the workaround in comment #4 and it worked for me (ini386).
I'll re-install in amd64 in the next days and try the same and let you know.
Maybe this bug affects not only this board but all H55 ones ?

Hi!

The first instructions yielded a ton of data, both before and after
insertion, so I carefully did just as you outlined, seem to have gotten
it right on the first shot (nothing like practice!) and thanks to your
clear reminders of the instructions. You're a great teacher for folks
like me without live-in tech supports.

Hope this helps. I attached the file to the bug report as before.
