[Bug 509528] Re: Security manager breaks session listing

2010-02-09 Thread Thierry Carrez
The security manager is causing lots of usability issues because it's
difficult to get right, for little additional security (since we run as
an unprivileged user). Upstream tomcat disables it by default. For
Lucid, we are also considering disabling it by default (it will still be
an option for those who know what they are doing).

For working around your bug, both solutions are valid. I'd suggest
adding a policy file if you still want to run with the securitymanager
on.

[Bug 506063] Re: Update manager tries to use a network proxy even though it's been disabled

2010-02-09 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
You can safely change useProxy to 0,or as root open synaptic (system ->
administration -> synaptic package manager ) and go to "settings -> preferences
-> network" and change it there. This is a long standing issue in synaptic. You
can read further comments about this issue in bug 13661 . On this bug is fixed,
update-manager won't have to check for synaptic proxy settings anymore.
I'm closing this report because it was a configuration issue and not a bug, and
the proxy "usability" issue is already filed in another report.

Thanks for your help to make ubuntu better and don't hesitate to submit
any new bug.

[Bug 517952] Re: MP3 player no longer visible after update

2010-02-09 Thread asharpham
After running Terminal with the instructions you gave, I ran Rhythmbox
with the Creative Zen MP3 player attached. It was not found by
Rhythmbox. Prior to updating Rhythmbox, I was able to see the player
listed on the left hand side and its contents, although i wasn't able to
play any of the items listed. Now the player doesn't even show up in the
list.

Regarding the "rhythmbox-debug" instruction, it was running for about 45
mins before I decided enough log had been created. It didn't look like
it was ever going to finish so I closed it down. If you want me to run
it again and just leave it running I will but perhaps you could tell me
how long it is likely to run.

The 2 log files are attached.

Thanks,
Alan

P.S It appears only one attachment can be made at a time so I'll resedn
the report with the other log file in a moment.

2010-02-09 Thread Berend De Schouwer
I've got this exact issue on a netbook. I don't have this issue on the

I'm guessing this is due to the different window manager setup, or due
to an X race condition based on the driver.

pinentry-qt works. Other GTK apps work.

[Bug 486079] Re: installing libmozjs-dev will remove ... firefox ubuntu-desktop ubuntu-docs xulrunner-1.9.1 and a lot more

2010-02-09 Thread Stephen Day
I ran into this while trying to link a trunk version of couch and fixed
it by adding a few careful configure options:

./configure --prefix=$HOME/couchdb --with-js-
include=/usr/include/xulrunner-1.9.1.7/unstable/ --with-js-
lib=/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.7/

I also had success with adding a few well placed links. Anyway to update
the xulrunner package to place these links so that autotools can find
these correctly?

[Bug 519651] Re: The keys controling the volume, eco-mode ... freez ubuntu 9.10 64bit

2010-02-09 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug had the incorrect package associated with it,
which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have re-classified
this bug as a bug in gnome-settings-daemon.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 519669] [NEW] Same File Two Machines, Different Look

2010-02-09 Thread Jmadero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

This is a bizarre one and is causing major headaches for me. I have a
file that is perfect, I send it to another machine, open it up, and the
damn margins are off and other things are off. My girlfriend is in law
school so EVERYTHING has to be perfect otherwise she gets marked off
points. We decided to submit the PDF's, as well as the .doc so that you
can see what we're seeing, this is a major headache

Just to rephrase, I send her a doc, she sees it differently, we both
made PDF's, original is mine, other computer is hers.

Some issues
Number of pages (yeah number of pages are off)

Page 8 of copy is blank, no blank pages in original

Margins on page 3 are different, more specifically the 4. on the bottom
is off

That's just the beginning, basically the copy she was seeing in open office was
worthless and she couldn't turn it in, major major headache

[Bug 519670] [NEW] libudev devhelp is incomplete

2010-02-09 Thread Karl Hegbloom
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

When I open devhelp to read the API documentation for libudev, the
documentation is mostly blank, and does not fully document libudev the way the
online version does at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/hotplug/libudev/
It is either incomplete in this version of libudev, or not being generated
correctly by the package build.

[Bug 519667] [NEW] slow poor graphic performance with i915gm chipset

2010-02-09 Thread sancelot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Using ubuntu karmic
The gnome desktop refresh is very slow at 1280x1024 16 bits

migrating to ubuntu lucid drivers did not help,

I managed to find the problem, but not solving it completely
,/dev/dri/card0 was not present, problem loading drm modules

finally, I setted up a custom kernel with agpgart built-in kernel not as
module,and removed unuseful modules.
and now the problem disappears , the drm modules load correctly and graphics
work fine.

this problem was reported to xserver-xorg-video-intel, but it was not a
driver cause, I am posting it here, I suppose it is related to udev, in
order being solved ?

have a nautilus like open/select file dialog. When you select file in such a

observe this.

account. If browsing other directories such as /etc or the root /, problem is
not observed.

  3) What you expected to happen
Open any website which contains something to let you upload, such as
composing an email. When you try to upload, Firefox will let you make selection.

Or just select "File->Open File..." from Firefox main menu to see the
  file selection dialog comes up.

I am expecting selecting a file will be quite smooth operation.

  4) What happened instead

It takes ~6s to get file list shown completely in "Open File" dialog. If
you scroll, refresh will take another ~5s. CPU usage will be 100% .

I can use shell to do ls in the directory that Firefox opens without any
  problem.

my home is /home1/foo while /home1 is a NFS mount
  Now,
my home is still /home1/foo but it's copied from previous NFS mount. And the
NFS mount is now mounted at /home2.

  Will this be the cause?

[Bug 519664] [NEW] squid FTBFS: dh_installinit: command not found

2010-02-09 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

lucid-i386.squid_2.7.STABLE7-1ubuntu4_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz

/bin/bash: dh_installinit: command not found

---

This was fixed once already in squid (2.7.STABLE7-1ubuntu3), but that
change was accidentally omitted from the subsequent 1ubuntu4 revision.

(This most likely happened because lp:ubuntu/squid source branch appears
to be stale at present, yielding the 1ubuntu2 revision).

[Bug 401126] Re: Realtek RTL8192SE WLAN Card Fails to work on Medion Akoya E1312 Netbook

2010-02-09 Thread Xebec
Battery powered performance is abysmal. Works for about 5 minutes and
then goes down. My Tomato based router does not complain about
insufficient power from the laptop (at least what I could catch so far)
this time. Instead I see problems on my laptop's side. It complains that
signal level from the router falls down below 10%, which I believe to be
false, since I have three more devices around the house connected
wirelessly.

AC powered performance is pretty good and surpasses my Broadcom based
USB adapter in both average speed and stability.

[Bug 496767] Re: Monitor initially recognized in Ubuntu 9.10, but then reverts to "Unknown Monitor" with 800x600 resolution.

2010-02-09 Thread JpJ 808
Thank you Bryce for keeping this bug posted: I no longer have this
particular system, so I will not be able to provide further information
from it nor make changes to it, but the information provided here may be
beneficial to Ubuntu's next LTS version and updates for Karmic. Again,
the issue seems to exist in the driver between the EDID of the monitor
and the i865 chipset. I look forward to seeing any developmental posts
with regards to the issue.

[Bug 519641] Re: gdm/x fails to start with error "Broken Pipe" at boot in Xubuntu

2010-02-09 Thread Matt Eskes
After speaking with crimsun in #ubuntu+1 he politely pointed it that it
could be driver issue.. looking at the binary hints some more, I tend to
think he's right since dkms is not present as well as the listing in
"GLXinfo" being absent. This issue may be more correctly filed under
either the kernel package or xserver-xorg-video-intel. What I intend to
do tomorrow is run some traces on x, mesa and the intel driver and
perhaps rebuild them and check it out that way.

2010-02-09 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Hi,

This has been fixed in Lucid, so closing the main bug report as fixed.

If you want to get it fixed in Karmic, please follow the SRU process, described
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.
Unsubscibing sponsors meanwhile.

Also keep in mind that this package is in main in Karmic, so Main
sponsors should be subscribed to the SRU.

Thanks,
Fabrice

The first waring :
"themes/Tropical.rc:89: Murrine configuration option "gradients" is no longer

The second "warning" :

Re: [Bug 519386] Re: not possible to follow Ubuntu bug reporting guidelines for openoffice.org within Lucid

2010-02-09 Thread Bruce Miller
1. When I click on | Help | Report a Problem, nothing happens. Nothing,
in any event, that a user can discern. Since filing the bug, I have
tried starting oowriter from an xterm (since I use Kubuntu, my console
application is konsole) rather than from the customary application
launcher (Alt-F2). Returning to its virtual workspace revealed the
following error message:

 sh: /usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.0/program/ooo87965.execute.sh: not found

I am not expert in Linux's many logs. If there is a log (or other data)
that I can usefully provide, please let me know.

2. This is a standard Kubuntu Lucid Lynx installation (to the extent
that any distribution still in Alpha should be called "standard").
Whenever I am running a development release, I do a "full upgrade" ---
cautiously --- at least twice a day. The OOo packages are all from the
default repositories:

Re: [Bug 477226] Re: Sound simultaneously on headphones and speakers - Lenovo IdeaPad u350

2010-02-09 Thread Luke Yelavich
Ok, since I don't have access to the hardware, I have to take another
approach. Please test again with the packages that will end up in my PPA
shortly. They are the sae package names, however they will give a full
debug log in dmesg. This means that your dmesg log will be quite full.

So since we know the patch makes things worse, I'd ask you to boot with
this package installed, and immediately after logging in, dump the
contents of your dmesg, like so, in a terminal: dmesg > dmesg.txt and
attach the resulting dmesg.txt to this bug.

After that, feel free to uninstall the package.

Thanks again/

[Bug 519653] [NEW] missing directories on NC after install

2010-02-09 Thread Robert Collins
Public bug reported:

After installing eucalyptus with the nc on the front end (its just on my
home workstation for testing), I found instances wouldn't start...
investigating via nc.log led me to the following directories being
missing:

/var/lib/eucalyptus/instances/admin/
/var/lib/eucalyptus/instances/eucalyptus/
/var/lib/eucalyptus/instances/eucalyptus/cache/

mkdir and chowning them to eucalyptus:eucalyptus let it get further,
though I still haven't successfully brought up an instance.
