gracefully make use of etckeeper if present, but not fail in any way if

You don't need a Brazilian Windows. You just need a US keyboard and make '

[Bug 551503] [NEW] [FFe] Add LTS designator, make smaller, and new Ubuntu One icon.

2010-03-30 Thread Evan Dandrea

Please accept a freeze exception for the following changes:
 - Add LTS to the version for Kubuntu and Ubuntu.
 - Make the slideshow 49px shorter, to better fit on a netbook screen

[Bug 363238] Re: [RV100] very poor Xorg performance on various older graphics HW - XAA no longer works

2010-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Alright, well look - first this already has been sent upstream and is
marked fixed there. So this is a lame duck bug report. Second, this is
a bug against really old hardware, which is not really much of a
priority for us. Third, it's a performance issue, which while important
is not something we generally do a lot of work on at the distro level
except in macro terms.

I am closing the bug as wont fix because I think whatever needs done
here needs to be done upstream. Normally I would help you by sending
the bug upstream, but since this already has an upstream task that is
closed, that is no longer possible. If you are willing to file a NEW
bug, we might still help out. But otherwise I think it's best we close
this bug and encourage you to go upstream directly to get their
assistance for this hardware.

Re: [Bug 537268] Re: No network icon in panel shouldn't figure a wireless connection if I haven't a wireless network card

2010-03-30 Thread Mark Shuttleworth

Support calls from people buying machines with Ubuntu pre-installed
declined 30% after we made this change just on the machines being
shipped through OEM's. People who are trying to get online were
clearly preferring wifi, and unable to find the network indicator unless
it looked like wifi.

However, in the case where there is *no* wifi card, we should probably
take a different approach. A patch would be welcome, if not for Lucid
then certainly for Lucid+1.

[Bug 551507] [NEW] Gedit indent (CTRL+T) plugin missing

2010-03-30 Thread Lionel Dricot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

In gedit under Karmic, I used to have CTRL+T to indent (Ctrl+shift+t to
revert) and Ctrl+m to comment (ctrl+shift+m to uncomment).

comment is still there).

[Bug 481432] Re: [Karmic] wireless connection keeps dropping - WPA TKIP

2010-03-30 Thread Smot
Thanks for some really useful info, ichimonji10. I haven't been able to
get such empirical measurements as you, but your results do agree with
the symptoms I get here.

When booted into Vista, wifi availability throughout my house is good -
I never experience any dropouts. With Ubuntu 9.10, the connection drops
frequently. It's not a regular as clockwork thing as sometimes it will
stay connected for an hour or so, then other times I can't stay online
for more than a few minutes. Sometimes it reconnects quickly, but mostly
I struggle to get it to reconnect and have to give up and return to
Vista.

Is the bit of software Vistumbler freely available? I could run it at
home to give some comparative results to your.

[Bug 305301] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI (needs KMS)

2010-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
The upstream bug task on this report appears to be closed as fixed.
Given the large number of comments on this bug I think maybe it's grown
stale.

A couple options going forward:
a) Dupe this bug report to #509273 if it is indeed the same problem
b) File a new bug report upstream at bugs.freedesktop.org about the current
state of the problem, and link a new upstream bug task here

Please let us know what option you think should be taken here. And if
(b), if you feel like it please go ahead and do it.

[Bug 551515] [NEW] [Lucid] need little modify the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script with gdm accessibility setting configuration part in Blindness profile

2010-03-30 Thread Attila Hammer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: casper

Dear Developers,

In Lucid, some blind users lot of time wroted following problem in
Ubuntu-Accessibility list:
When GDM is upgraded an installed system, ubiquity-casper 30accessibility
script preconfigured GDM accessible login settings during installation is
restored with default value. This is resulting problems with next restart,
because blind users impossible use accessible GDM login feature before not
setting manual all important GDM related gconf settings and restart the system.
The problem related with following:
Now, in blindness profile, gct_gdm using following method to configure GDM
accessible login feature:
gct_gdm() {
chroot /target sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 $@
gct_gdm -s -t bool
/desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility true
gct_gdm -s -t bool
/desktop/gnome/applications/at/visual/startup true
gct_gdm -s -t string
/desktop/gnome/applications/at/visual/exec orca
gct_gdm -s -t bool
/desktop/gnome/applications/at/screen_reader_enabled true

So, the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script set this feature related settings
with gdm user, not using system default setting method.
For example, Bill Cox Vinux Developer in Ubuntu Accessibility List suggest
following change:
All of the 30-accessibility commands apply to gdm's local copy of
settings, not default system-wide settings. I would recommend that
they be changed to system wide. I already do that in Vinux.
I prefer to set this option as a global default value. That, when
users update their system and gdm is upgraded, they still have a
talking login. The command I use is:

gconftool-2 --direct --config-source
xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults -s -t bool
/desktop/gnome/applications/at/screen_reader_enabled true
That should fix the problem long-term.

I make a change with ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script with important
places, and setting all GDM related accessibility settings with system vide
settings in blindness profile.
Before I write this bugreport, I make my testing purpose a custom actual Lucid
live CD, with containing new patched ubiquity-casper package.
I do clean installation, and after this, I do a full apt-get dist-upgrade
command. I do this, because I known now happening this day a GDM upgrade, and
this is ideal situation for testing.
The good results is following:
My maked patched ubiquity-casper package is working absolute safe. When the
installation is finished, I restart the system. GDM is talking fine after
restart. I using blindness profile with screen reader support during
installation.
After I logged in first, I do full apt-get dist-upgrade and restart my system.
After restart is happened and GDM is present my display, accessible login
feature working absolute right, Orca is wonderful talking after GDM upgrade.

Please apply my patch if this is possible, because this patch resulting
longer time safe working accessible login feature with visual impaired
users if using Orca Screen Reader. This change not disturb non visual
imparied users, this change do 30accessibility script during
installation if accessible mode is v3.

[Bug 551514] [NEW] Unable to bring Karmic 9.10 into standby

2010-03-30 Thread kaustubh
Public bug reported:

OS : Karmic 9.10 2.6.31-20-generic
Laptop : Toshiba Satellite A135-S4499

Issue :
1)First time when requested to go into standby (either via Shutdown menu or via
lid close action which has been setup properly), laptop goes into standby and
comes out of it successfully.

2)Second time when i request it to go into standby , doesn't go into
standby, but apparently just disconnects WLAN connection, Mutes sound
system and locks screen. But system keeps running and i can re-login
into it.

3)If i shutdown the system, boot it up and try brining it into standby,
it follows from step 1) above.

4)This problem wasn't there in Karmic from start(stable release), it
started somewhere in between. Unfortunately i don't recollect whether it
started after certain update.

I have attached lspci and dmesg output.

[Bug 189393] Re: [RS100] [U1] TV not detected with Radeon IGP 320M

2010-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
I see the upstream bug report is closed, suggesting the issue may now be
resolved.

If it isn't, please reopen the upstream bug report (or file a new bug
report). Given the age of the hardware this bug is reported against, it
is not an issue we're likely to work on here at the distro level, so I
think it would be better to work on upstream.

[Bug 156556] Re: [M6-LY] Gimp brushes leave garbage pixel trails

2010-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
I see that gimp is marking this bug resolved, and there's been no recent
comments that this is still an issue, so I'm going to tentatively and
optimistically close this bug as no longer an issue. It seems to be an
XAA-specific issue.

If it can still be reproduced on current Lucid using EXA, please re-open
the upstream bug.

[Bug 550801] Re: Xorg uses 35-55% CPU all time and fan runs continually

2010-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Trond, counter-intuitively, most high-CPU bugs with X.org are not
actually X bugs but rather an issue with some client application. X is
just a server, and will consume whatever CPU is necessary to meet client
application requests, so generally these bugs are really against to
whatever client app that is driving X too hard. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/HighCPU for help at
identifying what client app is causing it.

Re: [Bug 546706] Re: Return from *sleep-mode* gives serious kernel error

2010-03-30 Thread Sibe
Thank you Jeremy, I'm not sure if this is related, but apart from the time
it takes to wake up, it also takes a very long time (10-15 seconds) to show
the desktop and the panels after I log in. The only things I have changed
are:

I replaced the second of my 2 19 (1440x900 resolution) monitors with a 23
(1920x1080 resolution) monitor and
I've done a dist-upgrade to 10.04 beta, in order to keep my original
settings.

I don't know how to report this properly, but maybe it is related to the
below problem and helpful in it's solution.
If there's any related information you need, i'd be glad to help if you tell
me what additional information you need and how i obtain it from my system.

Regards, Sibe

[Bug 551521] [NEW] terminal output window can only be resized to grow

2010-03-30 Thread matthew72
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

the terminal output window can only be resized to be wider or taller, and once
done cannot be resized back.
the size persists across invocations; i don't know whether it always behaved
like this or
in my case, i mistakenly made it taller than the desktop and now part of it
sticks in another viewport; the window bounces up and down when clicked to
allow me clicking the close button -- btw, thanks to whoever has been so nice
to implement this functionality.
i looked for synaptic data files in /root (it's started by gksu) and in my home
but didn't find anything about the terminal window geometry (but found main
window geometry). i suppose it's an external applet not part of synaptic, any
hint as where do i find the geometry setting to reset it by hand?
