[Bug 540801] Re: X server starts before Plymouth, or a very short time after (no or brief splash)

2010-04-23 Thread MilchFlasche
My Kubuntu RC live CD can display Plymouth (do you mean that crude
textual "Ubuntu 10.04" with four textual dots?), but not a HDD
installation of 10.04 (whether clean install or upgrade). On the
upgraded installation, the bootup even hangs completely.

[Bug 568541] Re: rosegarden segfaults when opening or saving a project

2010-04-23 Thread vervelover
I just discover that the bug happens only if your system KDE theme is
"GTK". If you disable the thorn theme, and run for instance "rosegarden
-style oxygen" the bug does not happen.

[Bug 474325] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f76fd004

2010-04-23 Thread Kosumo
Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for remind me about this bug. I'm really sorry not to update
about this problem. I'm not really sure, but it seems since I updated my
kernel to 2.6.31-20, this problem got disappear. In the past, I got it
so often that make me many times forcing my laptop to be shutdown using
the "power" button.

Anyway, I tried to execute the command as you suggested.

[Bug 510505] Re: cdrecord has no permission to open the device

2010-04-23 Thread Philou
I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 for the second time one week ago and I've
search some times why K3b displays this error message "Error trying to
open /dev/sr1 exclusively (Device or resource busy)... retrying in 1
second" and can't start burning.

Thanks to Schily and Vik for their explanations. Now it works fine. But
I don't understand why Ubuntu don't correct this mistake in the package
!!! (Yes I've read http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/linux-
dist.html#packages). It's incredible.

[Bug 516329] Re: TouchPad buttons don't work on HP Mini 210 (1030NR)

2010-04-23 Thread Jeff Epstein
This bug also applies to the HP Mini 210-1010NR model.

Just to recap my own experience:

Out of the box, the actual "buttons" (which are physically part of the
pad area) don't work. To effectuate a click, one has to tap on the pad.
Right click is very hard, as one has to tap on the lower right corner of
the pad; it usually takes me a few tries. Two-fingered scrolling does
not work, but edge scrolling does.

This is my workaround: I discovered that by applying the following
settings via synclient, I can achieve two-fingered scrolling, and a two-
fingered tap will be interpreted as a right-click. (However, two-
fingered scrolling is still a disabled option in gnome-mouse-mouse-
properties.) This isn't a fix to this bug, but it might help people who
are having trouble.

This command will do it:

synclient TapButton2=3 HorizTwoFingerScroll=1 VertTwoFingerScroll=1
EmulateTwoFingerMinZ=29 EmulateTwoFingerMinW=5

By the way, what is the "correct" way to apply these settings
automatically at start up? Does one have to edit
/usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/* or is there a per-user way of applying these
settings other than invoking synclient in .xinitrc? Any help would be
appreciated.

[Bug 565938] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't boot on kernels 2.6.32-20, 2.6.32-21

2010-04-23 Thread MilchFlasche
I have finally managed to update my 10.04 (upgraded from 9.10 last
night), but it still hangs at booting.

A clean installation of 10.04 RC on the same machine (luckily I've got a
spare partition) does boot, and here I'm typing this message in this
clean 10.04. But I still hope to revive my previous installation. I'm
willing to provide message logs if required. Thanks.

try running pidgin under valgrind and see if that helps finding a memory
overwrite. Otherwise, we have two separate bugs here.

[Bug 569313] [NEW] package bacula-director upgrade failed because it couldn't connect to mysql-server

2010-04-23 Thread kofitw
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula

ubuntu 10.04 LTS

I did an upgrade from karmic 9.04 to to Lucid 10.04.
After upgrade mysql became corrupted
it wouldn't start and removing became difficult
I updated some of the system files last night and added the bacula-director
package
The package needed to communicate with mysql server which has been corrupted :
it asked for the password to the mysql server
which cannot start the mysql in any case.
Bacula package could therefore not install completely.
It throws this error,

Re: [Bug 475826] Re: [FUJITSU SIEMENS Amilo A Series] suspend/resume failure

2010-04-23 Thread Teuvo
Hi!

The bug exists in latest 10.4rc and upstream kernel.
I think it is quite specific for this a1630 and it has something to do with
network (manager/hardware): it loses the wireless options and it seems it
hangs the system a bit (and when upstream kernel boot, it complains about
memory problems)

My computer is so old and I can live with it. I think it is waste of time
to try to find this minor problem (if it is not a theoretically interesting
:)

The 10.4 seems quite nice!
Boot (& reboot) time reduces nearly factor 0.5 (just feeling so (and that is
enough), I have no measured it :)

[Bug 525756] Re: Aspire 5315-2713 overheats shuts down using Ubuntu 9.10

2010-04-23 Thread silvan
I also have an travelmate 5315 that shuts down suddenly every now and then. The
fan seems to work fine. Infact it is spinning continuous. The notebook starts
to react slow and just powers off.
I opened the laptop and replaced the thermal compound but it didn't fix the
problem.
Under system profiler, the TZ01 sensor reads 99 degrees celcius, but the status
can only updated after reboot. After the reboot, the notebook functions fine
for a while.

[Bug 569311] [NEW] Unable to sort by Artist then Song Name

2010-04-23 Thread Vaughan Chandler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

When you sort your music by the artist column, the album name is always
used as the secondary sort field, followed by track number, even if
those columns are not being shown. This makes the songs seem to be
sorted randomly for each artist, since the song names are not taken into
account by the sort algorithm.

For example, with only the artist and track name columns showing, you would see
the following:
ARTIST | NAME
Guns N' Roses | Patience
Guns N' Roses | Don't Cry
Guns N' Roses | November Rain

That appears to be sorted incorrectly, and only seems ok when the other columns
are also visible, example:
ARTIST | ALBUM | NUMBER | NAME
Guns N' Roses | G N' R Lies | 5 | Patience
Guns N' Roses | Use Your Illusion I | 4 | Don't Cry
Guns N' Roses | Use Your Illusion I | 10 | November Rain

Perhaps Banshee should automatically ignore hidden columns when sorting,
or maybe just allow the user to specify a sort variable, such as "%A -
%T" to sort by artist then track name.

I am using Banshee 1.6.0-1 on Lucid (pre-release), but I've noticed this
since I started using Banshee, several releases back.

** Affects: banshee (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

2010-04-23 Thread Krzysztof Janowicz
dear draycen, thanks for your suggestions! what worked for me was to
remove libmoon, all realplayer related files, and flash. then i
installed the adobe flash alpha for 64bit and now it works. reinstalling
libmoon leads to problems again :-( (as also reported by other users).
thanks again!

Re: [Bug 467385] Re: [HP Pavilion 061 EX259AA-ABA s7520n] suspend/resume failure

2010-04-23 Thread mikrom
Hi,

Sorry for the long reply.

Yes, nothing's changed here. Suspend, both on-demand, and on-timer
puts the PC into sleep mode. Only power button wakes it up (drives
would start spinning again) but mouse (usb), keyboard (ps/2) are dead.
The LCD also does not get any signal. From there only power button
5-second hold works (forced power off).

This is with all lucid updates as of 4/23/10 10PST.

apport-collect executed

I am trying the upstream kernel...

Regard,

Michal
