[Bug 578200] [NEW] (megatec_usb) error: Driver not connected

2010-05-10 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nut

Since upgrading to lucid, nut can no longer connect to my UPS, a Belkin
600VA USB. ( My setup is described here:
http://feeding.cloud.geek.nz/2010/04/monitoring-belkin-600va-ups-with-
nut-on.html )

This is what I see in my logs:

upsd[25112]: Can't connect to UPS [belkinusb] (megatec_usb-belkinusb): No
such file or directory
upsmon[25118]: Poll UPS [belkin...@localhost] failed - Driver not connected
upsmon[25118]: Communications with UPS belkin...@localhost lost
upsmon[25118]: Poll UPS [belkin...@localhost] failed - Driver not connected
  upsmon[25118]: UPS belkin...@localhost is unavailable

I have downgraded (the libusbclient1 and nut packages) to the version of
nut from karmic and it has started to work again. So something in
between those two version has broken that driver I guess.

Is there anything I can do to help in troubleshooting this problem some
more?

[Bug 150702] Re: alt shift tab stopped navigating windows

2010-05-10 Thread Alex
Hello, I still experience the problem with alt+shift+tab under a freshly
downloaded and installed (yesterday) Lucid version. I installed the
standard (Desktop) version on a Samsung NC10 (this should not be any
issue, though). The installed metacity package is 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1 (the
fix from #47 should be in there, right?). I observed that working with
the compizconfig-settings-manager and try to configure shortcuts (in
static application switcher), I cannot even grab the key combination,
when I click on grab key combination, when I press Alt+Shift it
displays AltISO_Prev_Group, when I then add Tab, it displays
AltTab. Is there something wrong with detecting the Shift key?

ps: For now I made a workaround with AltControlTab with:
gconftool-2 --set --type string
/apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_windows_backward AltControlTab

best
Alex

[Bug 150702] Re: alt shift tab stopped navigating windows

2010-05-10 Thread Alex
I forgot to add, this is still a problem with compiz as well as in the
normal mode (i.e., compiz switched off). I tried to set it via
compizconfig-settings-manager and gconf-editor (in
/apps/metacity/global_keybindings), I tried various possibilities, but
none of them fixed the problem.

thanks

[Bug 395892] Re: [Karmic] mount.ntfs-3g high CPU utilization and causes sytem sluggishness and unresponsive cursor.

2010-05-10 Thread jno
I do confirm 10.04 has the same misfeature.

Well, some long files (up to 1024K in size) that were unable to copy
under 9.10 now copied fine with some tamburine dance - I have to re-read
directories before any new copy run to get something about 7..10Mbps on
USB-drive. Longer files are still unmovable - the speed drops to
almost zero and the gauage freeze on 30 minutes left.

This looks true for mere cp(1), ^C/^V in Nautilus, or even with rsync.

[Bug 576724] Re: Ubuntu grub2 dist-upgrades result in confusion

2010-05-10 Thread dino99
this installer is a pure nightmare: in douth never trust it

some neurons are hardly needed and this installer with its silly
comments breaking everything around, might be redesigned.

The grub installer need to remove/purge the previous grub release if it
exist, then select the ubuntu partition to be installed on it, no need
to drop each user and newcomer into confusions and breakages.

[Bug 501670] Re: g_set_prgname() called multiple times

2010-05-10 Thread jonesints
Not that I intend forcing to version 2.22.2 since I'm soon planning on
upgrading, but I thought I'd say, I got this error when trying to launch tomboy
and now it won't even load at all. So, at least in my case its more than just a
terminal message.
If people don't intend to upgrade, I can understand the importance of fixing it!

[Bug 578211] [NEW] Sync gparted 0.5.2-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-05-10 Thread Felix Geyer
Public bug reported:

Please sync gparted 0.5.2-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
0.5.1-1ubuntu1 and ubuntu2 changed the build dependency to parted 2.1 and then
2.2.
This has been done in 0.5.2-2 too so there are no Ubuntu changes left.

Changelog entries since current maverick version 0.5.1-1ubuntu2:

[Bug 578210] [NEW] ubiquity fails to install kubuntu on lucid 64bit

2010-05-10 Thread eagles051387
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

im not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but i might have stumbled on
somethign very serious. ubiquity fails to install unless im using debug mode.
without debug mode i manage to get my drive formatted after turning of acpi
during boot up. after partitioning it gives me lots of error messages regarding
shared objects and what is being installed is a different version on the cd, in
my case live usb. tried a 2nd usb and the same issue. some of the objects after
hitting retry get installed but in the end the entire install fails. the error
says its errno5 input/output. this occured using 2 different usb pen drives.
running ubiquity -d from the command line all i got one shared object error
which i was able to get installed.

attached should be the bug report that you wanted riddell.

i am also noticing when i get what seems a kernel panic during install
there are 2 errors with smbus smb1 and smb2 im on an nforce 750i chipset
on my asus p5n-d motherboard. im not sure if those could be the issues
with the i/o errors im getting.

[Bug 578212] [NEW] Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 card errors when creating software RAID array

2010-05-10 Thread Alex Harrington
Public bug reported:

I have one of these cards - Marvell 88SE6480 chip I believe, BIOS
version is 3.1.0.15N.

I'm booting off a Lucid desktop usb boot drive. Also tried with rescue
mode on a Lucid 64 bit server usb key.

Machine boots off USB fine and I can partition 4 1TB SATA Hitachi drives
attached to the controller with a breakout cable.

After installing mdadm, (apt-get install mdadm) I create a new md device as
follows:
mdadm --create /dev/md0 --raid-devices=2 --spare-devices=2 --level=1 /dev/sda1
/dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1

That normally completes fine but looking at /proc/mdstat the resync
quickly slows to a halt and then I get the following logged repeatedly
in dmesg:

[ 591.992563] /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/drivers/scsi/mvsas/mv_sas.c
1608:mvs_query_task:rc= 5

Eventually I start getting errors logged that imply the drives are
faulty. Which drive it chooses to say is faulty varies from boot to
boot. The drives came from a working machine and have about 6 months on
them. I'm confident there's no problem with them.

After it picks a drive to fail, I get the following in dmesg:

[ 560.988051] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Unhandled error code
[ 560.988055] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK
driverbyte=DRIVER_TIMEOUT
[ 560.988060] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 00 00 6a 3f 00 00 08 00
[ 560.988076] end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 27199

I've found several threads on the kernel mailing list about this - but
no resolution.

The server is currently waiting to go in to production, so I've got a
window where I can run any tests required to resolve.

The additional information you have shared above seems to suggest a
specific bug with the video driver you are using. This information

problem lies so perhaps it can be worked around or fixed.

[Bug 578216] [NEW] apt package configure step fails without explanation if non-existent user is referenced in /etc/group

2010-05-10 Thread Krzysztof Foltman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

I've changed the username after installing the system a long time ago,
and the /etc/group file referred to both the old username (non-existent)
and the new username.

This worked for months until I upgraded to Ubuntu Lucid Lynx - the
upgrade failed because the new apt package couldn't be configured (the
dpkg --configure apt step also failed when ran manually). Short
investigation using strace -f showed that the problem was related to the
old username triggering an error condition. Running apt.postinst script
manually didn't cause any error though and exited with exit code 0.

The deleted username is krzysiek, the new username is kfoltman. The
incorrect username was mentioned BEFORE the correct username in each
relevant line of /etc/group. Like this:

adm:x:4:krzysiek,kfoltman

This is the possibly relevant fragment of the output of strace -f

[pid 5474] write(2, \n, 1) = 1
[pid 5474] close(5)= 0

Note that this message (unknown user: krzysiek) wasn't displayed
anywhere, so I had to use strace to find out why is it failing.

This might be an uncommon scenario (my system was misconfigured), but
still, everything else seemed to handle that error just fine. And the
error message being suppressed makes it hard to fix the problem. The
obvious attempts to remedy the problem (apt --reinstall install apt,
dpkg --configure -a) also failed, as the error wasn't related to order
of configuration steps.

available through hardy-updates anymore, I'm closing this bug by marking
it as 'Fix Released'.

[Bug 201396] Re: Unable to change numeric vaules in about:config

2010-05-10 Thread sam tygier
epiphany no longer uses mozilla, only webkit. so this bug is irrelevant
for lucid, and will probably never be fixed for old version by the
epiphany devs. i guess we can't close this bug until ubuntu versions
with mozzila based epiphany go out of support.

Yes allankelly, same here.. This is an essential desktop usability

still nothing is happening.

[Bug 59417] Re: Scroll lock does not work in X

2010-05-10 Thread yota
Confirming the behaviour on Lucid and that this is still just as
annoying as ever! after 4 years...

On my setup, a logitech mk 710 and intellinet 2 ports usb kvm, the xmodmap -e
'add mod3 = Scroll_Lock' restores the led functionality, but does not trigger
the kvm switch.
On the opposite numlockx toggle; sleep 1; numlockx toggle works under X.

Everything works fine in a VT.

Similar stuff here. Fresh instal of 10.04LTS. odd handling of DVDs . I
get this message in dmesg on each burned DVD that works fine in other

I have anotehr DVD that plays fine, but when I try to rip it to disk, it
hangs and drags the computer down horribly. Very frustrating. No

Further to the above ... I don't know any more about the immediate-
restart thing, but other standby and hibernate problems have been solved
 by switching to uswsusp.

 1. Use synaptic package manager (on the System/Administration menu) to
 install uswsusp#

 2. Use terminal (on the Applications/Accessories menu) to try it, by typing
  sudo s2disk
for hibernation or
  sudo s2ram
for suspend.

 3. If one or both of these works, you can make this the default system for
 hibernate and suspend by typing
  sudo gedit /etc/pm/config.d/00sleep_module
then editing the last line to read
  SLEEP_MODULE=uswsusp
(with no hash # symbol)
and don't forget to save before closing

 4. Tweaking instructions (if required) are here:
 http://wiki.opensuse.org/SDB:Suspend_to_RAM
Look for the ones for your video card, if listed.
Not sure whether point 3 above can be made to work if you need tweaks.

[Bug 576140] Re: RTL8192se does not see any Access Points

2010-05-10 Thread Manoj Iyer
joseph,

Looking at your comment #13 and dmesg.out put I am throughly confused!

1. It looks from your comment that you downloaded the
rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0016.0301.2010 version of the module and built your
self ?

2. Looking at the dmesg you are missing firmware files, and that is the reason
the driver is not working for you.
