[Bug 554622] Re: All wine file-extension associations not removed after "aptitude purge wine"
I believe Wine is making the associations when it's run rather than at package-install time so it's going to be a user-specific thing and isn't actually a packaging bug but rather a Wine bug. So we need to open an upstream discussion to talk about how to handle this properly. It fits into the more general problem of it being difficult to manage Wine-based programs on Open With. ** Changed in: wine1.2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- All wine file-extension associations not removed after "aptitude purge wine" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554622 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)
This happened to me because for some reason 10.04 does not load the wireless modules prior to attempting to connect to network shares that are in fstab. The network (samba) shares are not able to be found and then the boot just hangs. No shell, nothing, I can only reboot or use the work around, thanks OP for the workaround! This is an extremely serious bug for any non-power user, as fstab must be edited to fix the initial problem, and it basically makes an upgraded system unusable. -- Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571444 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 584202] Re: [Lucid] [ATi Mobility Radeon X1600]GL renderer not installed, firefox crashes at flash video maximization, compiz effects broke
Did some extra digging, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Drivers Followed the instructions to install fglrx drivers. When I ran the command: sudo update-alternatives --config gl_conf An interesting list shows up: Nvidia driver is at priority 9700 fglrx driver is at priority 1000 Vesa driver is at priority 600 (Can't remember exact) This probably means the driver I'm using now is nvidia running on my ATi mobility radeon card. Don't understand how it works but it has been working ever since I upgraded. Subsequently, I switched to fglrx (manual) and followed the instructions. When I ran the command: aticonfig --initial Output: Compatible adaptor not found I then restarted the system It seemed to work, except the screen resolution is a bit screwed(no wide-screen ratio) But effects still doesn't seem to work, didn't try blender nor ran diagnostics for checks. So I changed back to nvidia through the terminal. When I switched back, some new messages popped: failed to create /usr/lib32/vdpau/libdvpau_nvdia.so.1 libdvpau_nvdia.so.1 not found failed to create /usr/lib32/vdpau/libdvpau_nvdia.so libdvpau_nvdia.so not found I checked into /usr/lib/nvidia-current/vdpau/ there is a link to both files, but the link seem to link to some non-existent library. I restarted again this time after switching. This time it screwed up my graphical interface. After the purple screen boot up to desktop, my screen went blank. Instinctively I tried ctrl+alt+F1. It went to console, works. Tried back ctrl+alt+F7. It went back to desktop, with the colours extremely broken. It seems certain colours are out of range and displayed very weirdly. Screen aspect ratio is also wrong. Tried to install back the driver packages through synaptics to ATi/Nvidia, was a failure. I'm stuck with a faulty display desktop in Lucid, that makes reading a little bit more than inconvenient for the eyes. Subsequently, I installed Karmic back side-by-side. Karmic works fine, at this time of writing. I'm laying my Lucid dormant until, hopefully, someone with better expertise could help with this issue. -- [Lucid] [ATi Mobility Radeon X1600]GL renderer not installed, firefox crashes at flash video maximization, compiz effects broke https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584202 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 574137] Re: Toshiba NB30500F pulseaudio problem
Just to clear the air a bit and make sure that I am not misleading anyone with false impressions (often the case)... I took my Toshiba nb305 and wiped the Ubuntu partition and reinstalled lucid 10.04 from a USB key as previously. I tried the sound by turning on the system sound (Ubuntu), opening a terminal window and holding down the back arrow at the CLI prompt. The sound is fine. Now I 1) sudo gedit /etc/default/grub 2) Change: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash nohz=off highres=off" 3) save and sudo update-grub I have to do this to get the machine to boot quickly and to suspend/re- awaken when I close/open the lid. I cannot change the SATA BIOS parameter to compatibility from AHCI as I am dual booting with Windows 7 and using compatibility instead of AHCI craps up my Windows partition. But here is the catch 22. After putting nohz=off and highres=off on the GRUB command line, the sound no longer works It appears to have had nothing to do with Twinkle installation (see messages above). If I remove the highres=off from the command line, the sound becomes normal but then I can't recover from suspend. So What do the nohz=off and highres=off parameters do? Is highres=off turning off high resolution timers? Why does the sound get restored to normal when I shut off pulseaudio? >Fatal: Invalid configuration in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf >[fail] >Line 691 in dovecot.conf says:sieve=~/.dovecot.sieve I experienced this same issue after a distro upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 LTS. I found that this problem is being caused during upgrades from earlier versions by retaining the old dovecot.conf file during the upgrade. A number of config statements have been moved around in the dovecot.conf file for the new version included in 10.04 LTS causing the old dovecot.conf file to be incompatible. The solution is to use the latest version of the dovecot.conf file included with the distro during upgrade and then manually add your local configuration changes. [Bug 577038] Re: [regression] hard lock in openoffice when opening files from a remote NFS volume
I can't reproduce this problem saving to nfs on a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS client connected to a nfs server running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. What operating system is running on the nfs server? What is the export line from the server for the filesystem you are getting the lockup on? Also what is the mount options on the client? The output from running 'mount' for the nfs share would be useful to see as well. [Bug 483812] Re: Pulseaudio will not route internal/external mic to the speakers/headphones Karmic
Kurt, It is only a regression if pulseaudio worked before but it doesn't work now. As per the comment #1, it may seem that this feedback capability is not in pulseaudio at all. To anyone reading this, remember that in previous versions of Ubuntu the default audio server was Alsa, and when it changed to pulseaudio it broke many things for many users (but not for me, if I must say). But, well, I wouldn't know exactly, since I don't even have a microphone and only a few times I've tried to use one. I found this bug report accidentally while trying to solve a different problem, but I provide a workaround using the Jack audio server that may work. 1. Install "qjackctl", a Qt frontend for the Jack Audio Connection Kit. 2. It will pull some dependencies, specially the "jackd" package which is the Jack server/daemon proper. 3. Open "qjackctl" and start the server. Hopefully it will work with the default values, otherwise you may need to click "Setup" and adjust the settings. 4. There is some documentation for Ubuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToJACKConfiguration https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToQjackCtlConnections But perhaps a better documentation is found in the Jack Wiki http://trac.jackaudio.org/wiki 5. Essentially, adjust the controls (specially frame) to reduce the latency as much as possible, for instance from 50 ms to 11 ms. Also check that there are no XRUNs in the "Messages" and the "Status" windows in the main interface. 6. If the server seems to run okay, click "Connect". 7. In the "Audio" tab click on "system" in the "Readable Clients / Output Ports" and on "system" in the "Writeable Clients / Input Ports" windows. These represent the "sources" and "sinks" of audio. 8. Click "Connect". A line should be drawn indicating that the sound from the "capture" devices (microphone) is routed to the "playback" devices (speakers). 9. Every program that uses the Jack server will place different output and input ports and these may be wired as desired. For example, if Skype supports the Jack sever, it would be possible to use "capture" -> "Skype" and "capture" -> "playback", or perhaps "capture" -> "Skype" -> "playback", to send the sound to both Skype and the speakers. In summary, this method worked for me but it may not be ideal for every case or may not work at all. Also, I think that if Jack is running and you have outputs routed to the playback devices, other audio programs may not work at all because the playback resources are already used. This happened for me with Audacious. -- Pulseaudio will not route internal/external mic to the speakers/headphones Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/483812 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 414996] Re: [karmic] grub re-writes boot sector on wrong drive on fresh install
okay... I think the issue might be more subtle. I tried installing lucid again via usb, hoping to be able to select the correct drive in the advanced options in the installation procedure... what I instead find is that when in livecd mode, gparted reveals my usb drive as /dev/sda, which I believe is selected as the default drive to install grub to, while my hard drive is /usb/sdb. I expect that after installation, this might be humongously problematic, since when the usb is removed, the hard disk would be reported as /dev/sda? Even though fstab would be set up using uuids as opposed to device location, many things, including grub, should expect to face issues upon update? I also think this is closely related to the following bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/565189 Since this issue is not present in grub2 in karmic, this is certainly a regression. -- [karmic] grub re-writes boot sector on wrong drive on fresh install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414996 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
