[Bug 251107] Re: [Intrepid] nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex
@Miro: Intrepid isn't any more supported. Anyway, this bug is fixed for the nvidia 96 series. The Tnt2 is part of the older 71 driver which does not support the new xservers (Jaunty and higher) but this bug report isn't about xserver support (and don't open a bug about xserver's compatibility, only nvidia can provide a fix). Nvidia isn't probably going to release a fix for it in the near future. However, starting with Lucid (10.04 LTS), Ubuntu uses by default the free (gpl) nouveau driver which is better and faster than the nv driver but it doesn't yet provide 3d support. -- [Intrepid] nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 562092] Re: [Lucid] cdrom drive not recognized automatically
Hi, I am having the same issue with my cdrom drive and after 3 weeks of reading in the forum and trying out several steps I am pretty sure that it is hardware related, because: Only by changing the CDROM DVD R/RW I got it working perfectly now. the symptom in Ubuntu 10.04 (and also 9.10): Cdrom is not recognized automatically, only in some seldom cases when I reboot the machine with CDROM placed already. But then I can not change the CD again, because it will not be recognized anymore (although lshw -disk shows the cdrom drive) As it is reproduceable by exchanging only the CDROM hardware, I could send you the detailed hardware information and logs you need in order to track the issue down to the root cause. I have installed both UBUNTU versions in parallel; 10.04LTS 32bit and also 9.10 32bit. Both show same behavior with both CDROM Drives. so the issue is reproduceable. I can also try out latest kernel version (2.6.34 or 35), but I do not know whether this will help. As I am not a Linux expert (but some shell scripting I know and also installing linux kernel via "apt-get" works fine) Can anyone send me the commands that I need to use in order to send you the information in order to track the issue down to its root cause? [Bug 241206] Re: On Hardy screen saver never displays
I had noticed this bug on an upgraded 8.10 -> 9.04 -> 9.10 but had assumed it was an upgrade bug, and ignored it. Now I have the same bug a clean install of 10.04. This absolutely should be a serious issue, as it could cause screen damage (imagine I go away for the week forgetting to turn off my monitor) and is a security issue (imagine forgetting to manually lock the screen). I definitely have found that the most reliable way to initiate this bug is to deactivate the screensaver via the preferences dialog for some length of time (e.g., to watch a show on hulu.com), and then reactivate it. I have found a work-around that's better than logging out or restarting. I have a Lock Screen applet on my panel, and right-clicking it and choosing "Activate Screensaver", after reactivating the screensaver via the preferences, will cause the screensaver to work correctly. Note, this bug may also be related to bug #363635. Given that this bug involves the screen fading to black, as though the screensaver were activated, before popping right back to the desktop, it seems that something is canceling the screensaver at the last moment. As this bug was opened on the 2008-09-17 and there is still no sign of a solution (other then to get an old version of rdesktop), I think it is even more important to keep the meta information correct. [Bug 528094] Re: lock screen fails with xscreensaver
Just looked at the code a little, though I'm not really familiar with the internal Gnome architecture at all. It looks like indicator-session is where things go down. session_service.c is where the Lock Screen item is actually provided for the menu, and lock-helper.c (function lock_screen()) is where it actually is making the call. [Bug 528094] Re: lock screen fails with xscreensaver
To answer your question, Brian, yes, it appears this bug is still present in Lucid. I stumbled on this bug report after noticing the problem (I also refuse to use the broken gnome-screensaver). It looks like ctrl-alt-l works correctly in Lucid, but the "Lock Screen" session menu command does not. I also tried your symlink approach (linking gnome-screensaver-command to xscreensaver-command), and while "gnome- screensaver-command -lock" now locks the screen, the session menu still does not. So, hopefully this info helps...in the meantime, I'll use the ctrl-alt-l hotkey combo. -- lock screen fails with xscreensaver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 508516] Re: wakeup from sleep fails on toshiba nb305
I can add a few observations to the "slow boot" problem on the Toshiba NB305. If one boots the disk with no kernel parameters then there is a long pause in the boot process of about 6 or 7 minutes after which the system boots and acts normally. This is also true of suspend and resume. There is a 6 or 7 minute hang in the resume, after which the system resumes and runs normally. Why is there the long hangs in the boot and resume processes? If you boot with the kernel parameter "init=/bin/bash" then the system will boot fairly fast to open a shell. The boot process is stopping just after the file system is mounted and chroot to the file system has occurred. But the file system "init" (upstart) has not yet run. At this point if you check the hard disk parameters by running (as root) "hdparm -tT /dev/sdax", where sdax is the disk partition mounted as / (it is sda5 on my machine), then the disk performance is terrible (938.90 kB/sec and 430.55 kB/sec for instance). If you run init by typing "exec init" then there is a long delay after which gdm starts. If you open a terminal window and test the drive again you will find that it runs at full speed (573.54 MB/sec and 46.58 MB/sec, for instance). I am pretty sure that the long delays in booting and resuming have to do with the drive problem. But I cannot figure out what is running during the upstart process that "cures" the drive problem. If we knew what it was... we might cure the problem earlier in the boot process and be able to use the machine with highres timers turned on. All I know, is that running "exec init --verbose" indicates that the upstart jobs mountall, hostname, plymouth, hwclock and ureadahead have all started running before the big delay. One of the later jobs, triggered by event flags set by mountall, is somehow "fixing" the disk after a long delay. I will report further progress... if any! :-) Any help or suggestions would be welcome. -- wakeup from sleep fails on toshiba nb305 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508516 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 363635] Re: Screensaver does not work in 9.04
Sebastian: I know this is not the kind of bug you like, since it is difficult to describe and hard to reproduce reliably, but it is a real bug. Perhaps the wording of the title could be better, and we need more people to flesh out what is happening. As it stands now, I have absolutely no faith that gnome-screensaver will reliably lock my computer or protect my screen, so I always manually lock my workstation and always shut off my monitor when I am not at it. It's a shame I have to do this. johnsdagg: Your description in comment #7 was what drew me to this bug report. In my case, I disable gnome-screensaver via the preferences dialog, so I can watch hulu.com uninterrupted. When I am done watching, I re-enable it via the preferences dialog. However, all that happens once the timeout hits is the screen fades as though the screensaver were activating, then it blinks back to the desktop. The screensaver will not properly activate until I right-click on the Lock Screen applet (that I added to my panel) and choose activate screensaver. (A weird thing that happens then is the screensaver activates, but once I move my mouse, it deactivates, but instantly reactivates, no matter how long I waited after it first came on. It does this exactly once per manual activation.) Once I have manually re-activated it, the screensaver seems to behave normally, until the next time I deactivate it. Also, a reboot or logout solves the problem, but that is of course not an acceptable solution. For me, the problem is pretty repeatable: once I deactivate the screensaver through the preferences dialog, then re-activate it through the preferences dialog, I must manually use the Lock Screen button (either click to lock, or right-click and choose the "Activate screensaver" option to activate the screensaver, but not lock). It does not seem to matter whether I use the blank screensaver or any particular screensaver. I first noticed this bug after upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 on an x86 machine. I thought it was an upgrade-related bug, so I ignored it. Now I have just done a clean stock install of 10.04 on an amd64 machine, and I have observed the same problem. Is there anyway to log screensaver events, such as activations and deactivations. Clearly the screensaver is activating, b/c the screen fades to black, but something is immediately signaling it to halt the screensaver instantly as it activates. I would like to find out what event is doing this, so we can fix this bug. ** Changed in: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- Screensaver does not work in 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363635 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When I tried the proprietary fglrx drivers, I wasn't able to reproduce it. - Maybe related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver- - xorg-video-ati/+bug/373669 + See also: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- + ati/+bug/373669 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-23.37-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-23-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Wed Jun 16 21:03:26 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) MachineType: Acer Aspire 5542 ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-23-generic root=UUID=261f9489-5351-4e83-94f0-d5aa3a52907b ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LC_TIME=en_GB.UTF-8 LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-ati dmi.bios.date: 12/09/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD dmi.bios.version: V1.08 dmi.board.name: JV50TR dmi.board.vendor: Acer dmi.board.version: Rev dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Acer dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologiesLTD:bvrV1.08:bd12/09/2009:svnAcer:pnAspire5542:pvr0100:rvnAcer:rnJV50TR:rvrRev:cvnAcer:ct10:cvrNone: dmi.product.name: Aspire 5542 dmi.product.version: 0100 dmi.sys.vendor: Acer system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-23-generic ** Summary changed: - Computer shuts down on heavy CPU usage: I get a caught signal 15, shutting down + Computer shuts down on heavy CPU usage due to overheating -- Computer shuts down on heavy CPU usage: I get a caught signal 15, shutting down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/595335 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
