[Bug 611468] [NEW] nautilus hangs when delete large folder(s)

2010-07-29 Thread Tien Nguyen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Whenever I try to delete (using Shift-Delete) a whole folder(s),
Nautilus will delete the content but then hangs. I have to Forced Quit,
no other wait around.

It only appears to have this problem with larger folders (having
hundreds of files/sub folders). Smaller folder are OK.

[Bug 611469] [NEW] Gwibber not sending or receiving facebook messages

2010-07-29 Thread Michael Walton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

Sending messages to facebook using Gwibber will not succeed, and gwibber
will not receive any updates from facebook. If I delete the account and
start over it will pull all the current messages from facebook, and then
it will not receive any messages after that thereby repeating the same
behavior. I don't know if it has send and receive issues with any other
accounts as I have only been trying it with facebook, but I can't get it
to do anything, and I don't know how to check if it is something wrong
with gwibber, or with using desktopcouch to store the messages, or what
but if there is something you guys need just let me know.

[Bug 611471] [NEW] Fixup vesafb initialization patch which was mistakenly dropped.

2010-07-29 Thread Brad Figg
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Since dapper we have carried a vesafb modularization patch. This allows
us to make vesafb a module so we can control its insertion. When this
patch was rolled forward somewhere between dapper and hardy part of the
patch was lost. Such that we do not allocate sufficient memory for the
local info structure. This can lead to memory corruption and will lead
to a panic on unload of the module.

Please apply the attached patch to correct this problem.

TEST CASE: TBD

[Bug 202853] Re: Keyboard accelerators interfere with keyboard input

2010-07-29 Thread Duncan Lithgow
It may be that the message now shown (Remote Desktop Viewer 2.30.2 in
Ubuntu 10.04) is relevant, it sounds to me that it is related:

Vinagre comes with menu accelerators and keyboard shortcuts disabled by
default. The reason is to avoid the keys to be intercepted by the program, and
allow them to be sent to the remote machine.

You can change this behavior through the preferences dialog. For more
information, check the documentation.

This message will appear only once.

I have the problem that I simply don't understand this message... so I'm
looking to post a bug about that.

[Bug 437726] Re: xplc tests failures on ia64, sparc, and armel with gcc-4.4 -O2

2010-07-29 Thread Ulrich Weigand
The problem is in the operator== and operator!= routines for UUID, in
include/xplc/uuidops.h:

inline int operator==(const UUID& uuid1, const UUID& uuid2) {
return
  (&uuid1 == &uuid2) ||
  ((static_cast(&uuid1.Data1)[0] == static_cast(&uuid2.Data1)[0]) &&
   (static_cast(&uuid1.Data1)[1] == static_cast(&uuid2.Data1)[1]) &&
   (static_cast(&uuid1.Data1)[2] == static_cast(&uuid2.Data1)[2]) &&
   (static_cast(&uuid1.Data1)[3] == static_cast(&uuid2.Data1)[3]));
}

Since UUID (and GUID) is defined like this:

typedef struct _GUID {
  u_int32_t Data1;
  u_int16_t Data2;
  u_int16_t Data3;
  u_int8_t Data4[8];
} GUID;

those static_casts above cause the aliasing violation. Note how
uuid1.Data2/3/4 have effective type u_int16_t or u_int8_t, but are
accessed via an lvalue of type u_int32_t ? This causes undefined
behavior.

To avoid this, there are basically two standards-compliant ways I can
see: either, you compare all elements separately, or else you compare
the whole struct via a memcmp. (The latter could in theory cause
spurious failures if there were padding bytes in the structure; but in
practice this does not occur on any system I'm aware of.)

[Bug 511550] Re: Print quality degraded when printing from a Mac onto a CUPS server under Ubuntu

2010-07-29 Thread Till Kamppeter
Eric B, can you do the following:

Disable your print queue by running the command

cupsdisable Stylus-DX7000F

Then clear the queue via the command

cancel -a

Now send the same job as you did for the error_log from the Mac to your
printer. Wait some seconds to assure that the job got completely
transfered to your Linux box.

No run the following commands:

sudo -s
mkdir /tmp/x
cp /var/spool/cups/d* /tmp/x
chown -R eric /tmp/x
exit

Now attach the file (should be one file, but if there are more, attach
all of them) from the /tmp/x directory to this bug report.

To assure that this job shows still the problem (and also to get your
print queue back to working locally) run

cupsenable Stylus-DX7000F

You should get a bad printout now. If you get a good printout now, check
whether you have really sent the offending job from your Mac. If needed
repeat the procedure with another file which really causes the problem.

Changed bug title to reflect actual bug (as I see it

In a 5.1 analog output setup, adjusting volume in gnome-volume-control

Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting
aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on
an appropriate mailing list or forum.

Unfortunately a lot of BIOSes are broken and report a wrong lid status.
The only reliable method of knowing the lid status is seeing it
changing, so we shouldn't make g-p-m depend on the initially reported
lid status. There's unfortunately not a lot upower could do about it.

[Bug 611459] [NEW] Bluetooth utility doesn't remember the friendly name after reboot

2010-07-29 Thread Yannick Drolet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-bluetooth

I bought one of those USB Bluetooth v2.1 dongle from eBay, to replace my
old v1.2 dongle which worked perfectly, and came from eBay too. I
plugged it into my PC, turned on my PC, transfered some files from a PDA
and talked via a Bluetooth headset, everything worked as expected.
However, I'm unable to change the friendly name via the GNOME Bluetooth
properties. The name is stuck to "ISSCBTM". In fact, the friendly name
reverts to "ISSCBTM" only after a reboot. If I change the friendly name,
my Bluetooth devices will see the new friendly name during all my
session, but after a reboot, they'll see again the default "ISSCBTM". I
tried on both Karmic and Lucid, with the same dongle but with different
PCs, and the same thing happens. This didn't happen with my old v1.2
dongle.

If I use this new v2.1 dongle with Windows XP or Windows 7, BlueSoleil
or built-in driver, everything works perfectly. I can change the
friendly name without any troubles, and stays even after a reboot.

I found that this same problem happens with Fedora,

[Bug 326132] Re: [wishlist] Pinentry does not allow to paste into it, why?!

2010-07-29 Thread LanceHaverkamp
I don't know if Werner is the cause of this intentional defect or if
someone else put this dreadful idea into pinentry.

Regardless of the fact that it's an upstream issue, someone who can code
needs to fork pinentry and change this from a permanent defect to a
default setting that can be overridden for those of us who actually know
what we're doing.

Drag & drop from a key storage file (like keepassx) does NOT expose your
passphrase to the clipboard.

[Bug 305927] Re: gedit leaks memory

2010-07-29 Thread Mark
Note that the memory usage appears related to the text highlighting.

I loaded a moderately large (~100MB) XML file. Once the initial load
finishes, CPU usage stays high while highlighting is proceeding. Memory
usage skyrockets during this time (in my case, eventually hitting 1.2GB
resident). Closing the file does not free the memory.

the left side but you have it on the right so the problem is caused by
your setting. what do you expect to happen?

[Bug 610987] Re: euca-describe-availability-zones verbose incorrect output

2010-07-29 Thread C de-Avillez
I ran another test -- I thought it might have something to do with
'euca-run-instances -nxx'. So, starting with a just-booted cloud, I ran
a sequence of 'euca-run-instances -n10 ...' intermixed with 'euca-

ran two more e-d-a-z.

[Bug 597753] Re: Entire UI(Gnome+apps) behaves like shift button is continually pressed

2010-07-29 Thread PAB
I experience the same problem, since one week now - and only on Ubuntu, not on
Windows.
I have a quiet new keyboard and just re-seated the connector on the mainboard
(its a notebook).
The problem is still there (only on Ubuntu) - so I can quiet sure exclude any
hardware issues.

I have no flash activated and experience the problem on gedit, evolution and in
the browser.
So I think this has nothing to do with the software that is being used.

The problem goes away usually after some seconds or minutes of inactivity.
Sometimes I have the impression, that it is being caused by Ctrl+Shift
combinations, but this might be pure chance, since it definitely happened after
simple keypresses (like Return), too.
Yes, I'm a fast writer.
I was already guessing for something like Orca interfering, but all this is
completely disabled.
I just made some user-defined settings in keystroke-combinations settings
dialogue, but I can't see anything strange, there.

Help would really be appreciated, thanks.
(I have a messenger for interactive debug sessions.)

[Bug 610559] Re: Illegal OpCode on maverick daily image 20100727

2010-07-29 Thread Ronald McCollam
We've tried a number of things now, including the workarounds above and
updating the firmware on the system and RAID controller. More details:

This seems to be a GRUB issue, actually. This occurs immediately upon
attempting to boot, and we can't invoke the grub menu at all.

At this point the firmware change has rendered the system unable to
install correctly; this may or may not be a related problem. I am still
working on this and will provide more information as I have it.

[Bug 221409] Re: Ubuntu Browse Multiple Files dialog does not recognize capital / uppercase JPG as image

2010-07-29 Thread Marks Petz
I used GIMP - which automatically gave an uppercase sic - JPEG - IF GIMP
gave a lower case sic - jpeg. It would save having to batch process or
change individually.

I wanted to upload an image using flash plugin in facebook. It works
fine with uppercase images from Windows 7. Just from Ubuntu, using
firefox do I have a problem. The flash does not see the files to select.
AS in when I browse to the folder I see only the lower case files to
select from.

[Bug 433358] Re: sawfish-ui fails with broken pipe

>From apt-cache showpkg:

1:1.3.5.2-1ubuntu1.1 (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu
.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid-proposed_universe_binary-amd64_Packages)
(/var/lib/dpkg/status)

So I think I'm using the right package

Several problems:
1 I created a test account (with a fresh homedir) and chose sawfish on the
login screen, I got nothing on log in. None of my mouse buttons do anything (I
think it was middle-click to get the sawfish menu to launch things).

2 rep is not installed and so sawfish-ui still gives me "exec: 8: rep:
not found". So the dependencies seem busted.

That said, with rep installed #2 goes away and I can kill metacity,
start sawfish and successfully start sawfish-ui.

I have not tried logging into my every-day account with sawfish as the
WM yet, I have a lot of state on my desktop that I don't want to get rid
of right now.

Vish,

 Thanks for suggesting where to post my sork around for the colore folder
highlights.

 My teacher and fellow tinkerspasce friend was very excited in having me post
my need and work around solution to the problem.
 Turns out thatt only the old Mac OS 9 and earlieer had this feature.
 Neither the new Macs or the Microsoft come witn the ability to color
highlight the icons. there is software that can be added to the Microsoft
may be one for the Apple too that could add icon highlighting by the user.

 Was trying to use folder highlighting to work on photo work flow labeling.

 Will later in the week post my work around on the site that you suggested.

 Take care

[Bug 611449] [NEW] openconnect < 2.25 does not verify SSL server certificates

2010-07-29 Thread Anders Kaseorg
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: openconnect

Versions of OpenConnect before 2.25 do not verify that the server SSL
certificate matches the server hostname, which enables an attacker to
perform an MITM attack on the connection. This can be fixed by
upgrading to OpenConnect 2.25.

>From the upstream changelog:

OpenConnect v2.25 — 2010-05-15
• Always validate server certificate, even when no extra --cafile is
  provided.
• Add --no-cert-check option to avoid certificate validation.
• Check server hostname against its certificate.
• Provide text-mode function for reviewing and accepting "invalid"

[Bug 293326] Re: [KM400][8.10] Wrong xorg.conf file for VIA KM400 graphic chipset

2010-07-29 Thread Maks
I confirm this on 10.04. I have KM400 card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8378 [S3 UniChrome]
Integrated Video (rev 01).
Ubuntu starts in low graphics mode with error just as in first post. When i
press 'Cancel' screen turns black and monitor says "No signal". I can't get to
console to edit xorg.conf, because 10.04 doesn't have 'safe graphics mode' and
it can't boot normally in single mode.

[Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] [ubuntu 10.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2010-07-29 Thread Alexander Obersht
Either it's not fixed, or it's back.

Because I'm still experiencing this issue with Catalyst 10.7 (downloaded
from ATI website) in Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. Unminimizing a non-maximized
window is instant, but there's a noticeable pause before unminimizing a
maximized window. There's also a pause before maximizing/unmaximizing a
window.

I can't reproduce this issue. It sounds like your problem is due to
another program rather than an issue in tumiki-fighters, do you agree
with this analysis? If so, please close this bug.

[Bug 611447] [NEW] 10.4 LTS Samba File Server doc

2010-07-29 Thread ico
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Similar bug as #579851, just on another subpage of samba, samba-fileserver page
https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/samba-fileserver.html

Again step 4,

instead of restart fileserver with:

sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart

should read

sudo restart smbd
sudo restart nmbd

or

sudo service smbd restart
sudo service nmbd restart
