[Bug 447209] Re: xfce4-volumed crashed with SIGFPE in __libc_start_main()

2010-08-26 Thread Steve Dodier
I feel like a comment is needed from me, since I'm the person who was
meant to fix this bug a long time ago. Here is why it has not and will
probably never be fixed:

The bug is triggered on a limited set of hardware configurations, of
which I own none. On the computer on which xvd was developed, it never
crashed. On my alternative laptop, it crashed 4 times in six months, and
I suspect this was due to another problem related to my not-so-stable
Pulseaudio + Wine + crappy BIOS/Kernel setup.

The exact problem, as far as I can diagnose it, is a crash on track
volume querying. I do not know any more. I can not use a debugger to
find where it crashes since I can't reproduce the bug. I almost know
nothing of GStreamer, so I am not able to quote reasons that would lead
to a crash when a client application queries volume for an apparently
valid track. I believe I assigned one of the duplicate reports to the
GStreamer team, but got no answer.

#8, Frank, all these reports are automated reports of the same bug
happening on different setups. Considering the number of reports, it
affects a lot of people, yet a much bigger lot of people uses xvd
without any problem. Do not think the problem is being disregarded, I
just can not help it (see above as for why). It is rather pretentious of
you to write stop saying you'll fix it, and fix it. I spent hours
looking for solutions to this problem, and if I could not find one, it's
certainly not my fault.

#9, Teej, I should have assigned myself to the upstream project instead
of the Ubuntu package, I'll grant you that. This is now done. Anyone
able to diagnose the bug better than me and to step in for fixing it is
free to assign oneself instead of me.

#12, Lionel, that would have caused a SIGFPE and not a SIGSEGV. The
problem is below, unfortunately. However, you're right about the lack of
sturdiness of the code (eventhough I know no configuration where the
volume range could be 0). Opening a new report about that. Thanks.

#16, Frank, thanks for the hardware configuration. Would you be kind
enough to check (with the lshw command) what model of sound card do you
exactly own? Also, kernel versions (uname -a) and gstreamer versions
(apt-cache policy libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0) might help any
passer-by developer who knows about GStreamer.

#19, Frank, the other problem seems completely unrelated. Please open a
new report against Xubuntu with the *exact* error messages you get.

Final comment: I need exact hardware/kernel/gstreamer configurations. There is
no way for me to fix the bug, but anybody with the same configuration and who
knows about debugging/development may be able to have a look. If you can
reproduce the bug, a GDB trace of where it crashes (with the GStreamer
debugging symbols installed, a nice function stack, and possibly some prints of
the function parameters / local variables in where it crashes and the 1 or 2
functions above, plus the last function located in xvd) is more than welcome.

Sorry, I have no ability to install Maverick at the moment. Mayber,
there is someone out there who has access to Maverick? The steps to
reproduce the issue are fairly simple and determinate. The easiest
option, it seems, is to have the Update Manager load the latest updates
from the server to bring up the admin password prompt.

udev (161+git20100825-1) maverick; urgency=low

  * Merge fixes from trunk:
- keymap: Fix Sony VAIO VGN-SZ2HP/B (LP: #530137)
- keymap: Add HP G60 (LP: #554944)
- keymap: Add Onkyo PC (LP: #612529)
- Add support for oom_score_adj, which replaces oom_adj in kernel 2.6.36
- udevd: remove unneeded credential passing from init_notify()
  * debian/control: Update Vcs-Bzr to reworked tree. The current tree is now
branched from lp:~vcs-imports/udev/trunk (which works well now) instead of
the outdated manual lp:~scott/udev/master import.
  * Add debian/source/format: Keep 1.0 for now. We don't use quilt, but bzr,
and this is not a native package.
  * Add debian/source/options: Supply tar-ignore and diff-ignore options to
exclude .bzr/ and test/. This obsoletes the debian/rules package rule,
so remove that.

[Bug 624522] [NEW] Postfix init.d script and populate chroot in multi-instance environment [debian bug #560682]

2010-08-26 Thread Nikos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

Copy/paste from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=560682

I hit the pb on Ubuntu Lucid :

= description of the problem

When running postfix daemon in chroot environment we need to assure
that the chroot dir is up-to-date (aka. etc/services lib/*, ...).

For a single instance this is done by the /etc/init.d/postfix script.

Starting with 2.6.x, Postfix supports now the multi-instance concept
(http://www.postfix.org/MULTI_INSTANCE_README.html). So for each
instance, we have a new /var/spool/postfix-instance that is created and
where daemons may be run as chrooted.

The problem with the /etc/init.d/postfix script distributed by Debian
(in version 2.6.5-3) is that it does not take of the multi-instance
chroot dirs : the script only synchronizes the default instance (aka
/etc/postfix) and not all the other instances. So in a chroot
environment, with a chroot dir not synchronized we may have some
problems like fatal: unknown service: smtp/tcp.

= workaround

I think the init.d script need to be adjust to take care of the
multi-instance chroot dir.

  Please see the attached patch
postfix-init.d--multiinstance-chroot-aware.patch.

  It does 2 things :
- iterate on each instance declared in the default one (postmulti
-l) and do the job that was done in the past
- we have to synchronize some other file like /dev/log and
/lib/libresolv*so*

[Bug 624521] Re: Shutdown button outside the screen with low resolution

2010-08-26 Thread Otus
There is a lot of free space bottom left, so this should be fixable.
Maybe just a layout glitch.

Scratch that. The space gets used when session and language choices
become visible.

So I suggest either justifying everything right instead of left or
moving the shutdown button to the right side.

Neither will entirely fix the issue, but the shutdown button is quite
vital.

[Bug 624169] Re: unity-applications-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in unity_applications_place_daemon_update_pkg_search()

2010-08-26 Thread Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen
I wonder why you get all these weird segfaults :-)

I can definitely see you have a null pointer dereference in that stack
trace, but looking in the code that specific pointer should not be able
to be null unless there is some other critical error condition. Or in
fact, line 925 in daemon.c can not, not even in theory, cause a null
dereference... However line 924 can - so there must be some line skew
in the trace...

Line 924 can err if the UnityPackageSearcher fails to initialize
somehow, but this should cause a message:

  Error loading package indexes: $something

to appear on stderr which I'd assume we should see in your .xessesion-
error - which I don't see. There is a bug somewhere that that the
Software Center index is some times not generated, which can in fact
cause this error to happen - which might also explain why software
center fails to start.

[Bug 623819] Re: [Maverick] policykit is not responding

2010-08-26 Thread Harry
Actually how much new code has been applied to the 0.96-2ubuntu3 version?
There was absolutely no problem with the former 0.96-2ubuntu2 version as far as
shutdown/rebooting issues are concerned.
This much has been publiced in launchpad about this update:

 debian/patches/04-autorestart.patch:
- add autorestart support (LP: #499937)

And then this is built to depend on two new packages:
- libdbus-glib-1-2 (= 0.78)
- libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (= 2.21.6)

[Bug 614699] Re: Qt 4.7.0 breaks QX11EmbedWidget

2010-08-26 Thread William Hamra
Alf, i used your repository as well, a simpler solution i found was this:
*delete your repository
* sudo apt-get update (or aptitude)
*apt-cache policy libqtcore4
*check the highest version in the version table available. at the moment of
writing the post, this is 4:4.7.0~beta2-0ubuntu3~lucid1~ppa6
*order aptitude to install it using:
sudo aptitude install libqtcore4=4:4.7.0~beta2-0ubuntu3~lucid1~ppa6

aptitude will complain of dependencies, and suggest downgrading all packages
from your repo, accept the solution.
if anyone finds any mistake/error/problem with this method, please tell me.

[Bug 605336] Re: Report Broken Web Site option missing

2010-08-26 Thread Chris Coulson
This actually isn't fixed. The build log shows that reporter is being
built, but we aren't installing the overlay. The same applies for FF4.0,
but that one seems less trivial to fix, as I can't work out why the
files aren't being included in the build.

This works on Mozilla builds of both FF3.6 and 4.0, so we should try and
get this working really

2010-08-26 Thread Damien
Yeah, can't explain that either. If we ask for an FD more than once
there should be something mentioned in the logs.

It could also be that I've just been lucky with the reboots. I've had

trying more tomorrow...

[Bug 544139] Re: Active VT tracking can fail at startup

2010-08-26 Thread Lennie
Damien, I do have a question.

Just to make sure, you did use the same hardware/machine to test ?

I think I read you had several of these machines ? Did you maybe do a
restore from an image or something like that ? Did you use the same
method to do so ?

There was no extra USB-device plugged in or something like that ? Or an
external display if this is a laptop.

Because timing seems to be very important to cause the error this bug is
about.

[Bug 624533] [NEW] u-boot-linaro package shouldn't use native packaging as it is

2010-08-26 Thread Alexander Sack
Public bug reported:

Spin out from MIR bug ... 613230

This is a problem because we maintain changes against the announced
upstream commit from the version in the package. keeping this separated
in a diff.gz is wanted.

also politicially u-boot-linaro/stable should be treated as a proper
upstream tree; which mean we could use the base revision from that
branch rather from the u-boot upstream at denx.de currently used.

while i think we shouldnt use native packaging, if you want to keep
doing that, do:

 a) use a proper native package version without any -
 b) use the real packaging branch commit as version (e.g. git describe on

[Bug 624537] [NEW] upgrade failure

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

I have successfully run Ubuntu distribution 8.04 LTS for some time. Today I
attempted to upgrade to distribution 10.4 LTS.
The first try took about two hours, then failed because of something about a
dependency cycle in Open Office. A second
try failed very quickly; same failure message. What is the trouble? Is it me

[Bug 598117] Re: Impossible to install 10.04 on VAIO VGN-T2XP

2010-08-26 Thread heiko

I think there is a problem with the display driver detection. The install
(10.04) works fine in the text mode (with the alternate CD).
But after reboot the system hangs again. If you are using the vesa driver you
will get your X desktop - but sure with poor performance.

It seems that the new intel driver (intel_drv.so) doesn't work with the
chipset. and the old driver (i810_drv.so) isn't available for Lucid
(ubuntu10.04).

Any ideas to get the display driver to work ?

Regards,
heiko

[Bug 624547] [NEW] Don't show passwords on screen

2010-08-26 Thread Meluco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ettercap

'ettercap -T -q -M arp /victim1/ /victim2/' must show http or ftp
passwords in screen, but there isn't.

'ettercap -T -Q -M arp /victim1/ /victim2/ -w /tmp/file.pcap' and then
'ettercap -T -q -r /tmp/file.pcap' do the same.

If I open /tmp/file.pcap with Whireshark and search password string
manualy, I find it.

[Bug 622737] Re: dpkg-cross package skipping causes xdeb to fail

2010-08-26 Thread Loïc Minier
Peter, xdeb could easily call dpkg-cross in a way which doesn't fail on
empty packages, but we actually want to cover these in the heuristics
matching packages so that we know that the package is a host package,
not a target package as it might appear in build-deps.

[Bug 611760] Re: invalid values for distro upgrades

2010-08-26 Thread Jonathan Riddell
I can confirm the 0.5.7-0ubuntu2.1 package fixes the problem, running
the pk-upgrade-distro script successfully starts the upgrader (having
already changed DistUpgradeFetcherKDE.py to use devel release updates,
which won't be needed after maverick release of course).

contains a package for portaudio19 but it looks to be too old for this
fix.

[Bug 624566] [NEW] Enhancement: Middle click to close tab (like Firefox)

2010-08-26 Thread Daniel Ellis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I would find it useful if you could close gedit tabs by middle clicking on the
tab. Firefox has this ability and it is much quicker and easier than locating
the relatively small cross.

This has been reported upstream at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=627986.
However, the Gnome developers have decided against this.

But how about this be added to Ubuntu? Patch is attached.

** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
