Yes, changing gdm.conf is all that the proposed SRU will do as well. Can you please change this to start on (filesystem and started dbus and stopped udevtrigger) and run with that for a few days? Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve Ubuntu. Your bug report shows that you installed this system fresh with Ubuntu 10.04, which would install grub2; but you have subsequently removed grub2 in favor of grub1, without configuring it. [Bug 643193] Re: kernel error resuming from suspend on battery
I downloaded and installed the mainline kernel v2.6.32.21-lucid and now I don't see any kernel errors in the log files that they popped up in before. Is there anything in specific I should look for other than that? Also, I downloaded the mainline version of my kernel for maverick and I'm going to test it next to see if it fixes the problem there. (I'll fill you in next time I have internet access) One other thing I wanted to note is that the error didn't happen every time I resumed from suspend in lucid - only sometimes. It only seemed to happen when I suspended the laptop on AC power then resumed it on battery power. In maverick, the error shows up every time I resume from suspend while on battery power. ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing -- kernel error resuming from suspend on battery https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/643193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 18306] Re: `apt-cache show gphoto2' is silent and exits 0.
No, it doesn't. Zero exit status seems correct to me, as there are no errors. BTW, `apt-cache show' will exit with zero status if at least one package exists, so: $ apt-cache show coreutils package-that-does-not-exist Package: coreutils <...> Task: minimal N: Unable to locate package package-that-does-not-exist $ echo $? 0 $ apt-cache show awk package-that-does-not-exist N: Can't select versions from package 'awk' as it purely virtual N: Unable to locate package package-that-does-not-exist N: No packages found $ echo $? 0 $ apt-cache show package-that-does-not-exist N: Unable to locate package package-that-does-not-exist E: No packages found $ echo $? 100 So, apt-cache exits with non-zero status iff there are errors (lines starting with `E:'). [Bug 629910] Re: nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text
I have not seen any instability issues with the new beta driver 260.19.06 in my maverick 64-bit setup. The sluggishness issue is completely gone and also gnome-shell works fluently now. Please pay attention to that Brandon Snider has uploaded this new beta driver (nvidia-current) in X Updates PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates It is built both against lucid and maverick. Note also that the X updates lucid build cannot be installed on maverick. The lucid package nvidia-current provides virtual package xserver-xorg-video-6, which would break mavericks xserver 1.9. The maverick package nvidia-current provides virtual package xserver-xorg-video-8, suitable for xserver 1.9. [Bug 408555] Re: ZTE MF636 3G modem sometimes is not connecting in Lucid
Also by default after plugging in and waiting ~80 seconds (time needed for the dongle to be recognized by system), "Enable Mobile Broadband" is unchecked in Network Manager, although broadband connections are available and it is possible to connect to them by clicking. If I manually click the "Enable broadband connection" before connecting to a network, then connection is lost shortly to the modem and Network Manager no longer recognizes it, until reboot. If the checkbox is left "as it is" and I simply connect to the desired network, then it is possible to unplug the dongle and then it will be recognized properly, when connected (takes ~80 seconds to start as well). [Bug 408165] Re: Linksys By Cisco WUSB600N v2 Doesn't Work
I believe I have found a solution to getting the latest rt3572 driver, 2.4.0.1, to work with newer kernels. This was, however, tested on a fresh net install (via ethernet) of ArchLinux 2010.05 x86_64 with kernel 2.6.35. Per this post, related to a different Ralink chipset: http://art.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9778612&postcount=108 It appears that usb_buffer_alloc and usb_buffer_free, which the driver calls on, were renamed to usb_alloc_coherent and usb_free_coherent (respectively) in kernel 2.6.35. In order to get the driver to compile, edit ../include/os/rt_linux.h and change all instances of "usb_buffer_alloc" to "usb_alloc_coherent" and all instances of "usb_buffer_free" to "usb_free_coherent". From what I can tell, there is only once occurrence of each, on lines 1077 and 1078, respectively. Make sure you've made the usual changes (enabling WPA Supplicant support in ../os/linux/config.mk and adding the USB ID to ../common/rtusb_dev_id.c) and the driver should compile, install and modprobe just fine. I also had to blacklist the rt2800 modules as the OS was trying to use them instead. If ifconfig/iwconfig show the device as "wlan0" then it's most likely trying to use the rt2800 module. If the device is shown as "ra0" the rt3572sta module should be in use. Additionally, my apologies for not considering the e-mail address in the link above (#76) creating a problem for those not logged in, I should have used the link from within #75's link: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general/377427 I hope I've managed to help those with any issues! -- Linksys By Cisco WUSB600N v2 Doesn't Work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 629622] Re: Situation report 2010-09-21
ETA guessimate: "next week" 9. Upload to main archive No license, no source. ...For the latter: I had a good chat with Malcolm today at Dalton Maag---the build process is much simpler than I'd expected. There are two input files per font, one .vfb (FontLab) and one extended .ttf containing source tables belonging to MS-VTT (from the previous revision). The merging/overwriting is based on keeping a separate (manual) record of what was changed higher up the stack in FontLab and then not importing the metadata for those glyphs. This means in terms of source code, we'd be getting/shipping three files per weight, the last of which is the compiled .ttf (which people are already familiar with) and the other two which would go in the source distribution. 13. Fix 'High' and 'Critical' bugs Spent some time exploring fonttools/ttLib from Python and have a proof-of- concept for re-injecting the debug glyphs from /code/, rather than human time (much more reliable since they'll definitely match!). Bug #640623. AOB uff-0.68 is still in-hand. Discussed the issue of webfont deployment with Mark---providing a working out-of-the-box/centralised offering will likely encourage web developers and users to use that solution rather than rolling their own---which more easily solves the problem of keeping webfonts up-to-date. -- MIR+FFE: Inclusion of Ubuntu Font Family ~0.70 in Maverick (10.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629622 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 644899] [NEW] netbook UI doesn't load
Public bug reported: I am trying to use the current Ubuntu 10.10 beta of the netbook edition inside a VirtualBox VM, but the netbook UI session doesn't get loaded, Instead just the default wallpaper is shown (without mouse cursor) and no system activity happens. The system itself is not frozen though, I can CTRL+ALT+F1 my way out, stop gdm and even successfully start a GNOME session with "startx", so it doesn't seem to be an X server problem, it's just the netbook UI session that is unable to load. Reproducability with LiveCD: - Boot the Ubuntu 10.10 beta Netbook Live CD inside a VirtualBox VM - Select "Try it out" instead of "Install" (installing works fine) - experience the freeze Reproducability with installed system: - Install Ubuntu 10.10 beta Netbook edition from the Live CD inside a VirtualBox VM - when the freeze happens CTRL+ALT+F1 to console and run "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade" to update the beta with a lot of more recent packages - reboot and still experience the freeze If there is some log files you might need, please tell me what I should provide. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- netbook UI doesn't load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/644899 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
