[Bug 678213] Re: drpython does not show a menu bar
This is a general bug in Ubuntu/Kubuntu in any wxPython program (my own, the wxPython Demo...) Menu bars do not display, although shortcut keys, that are defined in the same code lines, still work (ctrl-a for an 'about' dialogue for example). Doesn't matter if the program is invoked from terminal or by double-clicking a .py file. Added weirdness: Menu bars work fine on the Netbook interface. Extra added weirdness: When running code from within the Eclipse IDE, menu bars DO show! Very bad bug. Stops developers from using Python/wxPython to develop for Ubuntu. For me it's a 'find another distro' situation. Everyone who has still problems, do the following: 1. Attach the file which does not print. 2. Follow the instructions of the sections CUPS error_log and Capturing print job data on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems 3. Convert the captured print data to PostScript with the pdftops command. 4. Tell us the size of the original file, the captured print data, and the resulting PostScript file. 5. Attach all files. Do not hesitate to attach big files. Attach the files one by one, do not package them together and do not compress them. Only if the resulting PostScript file is so big that it takes you hours or days to upload, do not upload it. 6. Naturally tell us which printer and driver you are using. -- Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419143 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 650498] Re: Expansion: 'ẞ' LATIN CA PTIAL LETTER SHARP S (U+1E9E)
I think the ẞ glyph should look like the Duden ẞ, and not like Andreas Strötzner's Dresden form. The Duden ẞ has only one angle, and a part of it looks similar to an S: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/2/2b/Eszett_Leipziger_Duden_1957.png The Dresden form has two angles, and a part of it looks similar to a Z: http://www.signographie.de/cms/upload/pdf/SIGNA9_SHARP_S_howto.pdf Here is why I think that the Duden ẞ is superior: 1. The Dresden ẞ tends to lean forward or topple over. That is because it has an unusual trait among capital letters: Its grey scale value at the top right corner is denser than at the top left corner. The Duden form, on the other hand, has equal grey scale values at the top left and top right corner. 2. The Duden ẞ is more similar to a small letter ß. Andreas Strötzner explicitly says that the distinctiveness from the small letter ß is an advantage of the Dresden ẞ. I think that is a fallacy. The point of the capital letter ẞ is not being distinct from the small letter ß, but only fitting in with the other capital letters (without toppling over). To the contrary: I think the capital letter ẞ benefits from being similar to the small letter ß because that makes it more readable. The capital letter ẞ is really only a variant of the small letter ß that fits in with other capital letters. 3. The Duden ẞ is more distinct from a B. You might say that this is because it does not waste distinctiveness by trying to look distinct from the small letter ß, so it can concentrate on looking distinct from B and fitting in with capital letters. 4. I personally think the Duden ẞ is the most beautiful ẞ I know. Here are some screenshots of three fonts at different weights and styles in very small sizes. I think they illustrate my point. The font DejaVu Sans has a Duden ẞ. It fits in with the capital letters, it is distinct from a B, and it does not topple over: http://fotogalerie.herr-der-ringe-film.de/data/7977/DejaVu_Sans_.png The font Linux Libertine has a Dresden ẞ that is almost identical to the one on the cover of Signa. In some instances, it topples over so much that it looks as if an italic letter were inserted: http://fotogalerie.herr-der-ringe-film.de/data/7977/Linux_Libertine_.png The font DejaVu Serif has a very angular Dresden ẞ: http://fotogalerie.herr-der-ringe-film.de/data/7977/DejaVu_Serif_.png -- grüess mach -- Expansion: 'ẞ' LATIN CAPTIAL LETTER SHARP S (U+1E9E) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/650498 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 682401] Re: Regression: FF4: back button history dropbox only opens if point is held still.
** Description changed: Binary package hint: firefox Current implementation (Firefox 4.0beta7) 1. Move pointer to back button on navigation toolbar 2. Click and hold without moving 3. Move (still holding left-button) 4. Release over chosen item Previous, historical behaviour (in line with other menu implemtations): 1. Move pointer to back button on navigation toolbar 2. Click and hold (regardless of movement) 3. Release over chosen item The newer implementation slows the user down by preventing them anticipating the shortly-to-appear menu. The newer implementation is harder to accurately complete (especially on pen, or finger-based devices) where the pointer must not be allowed to move until the menu has appeared. - Ideally if the point click begins in the back button and then moves + Ideally if the pointer click begins in the back button and then moves outside the bounds, the dropbox should appear immediately (the delay- timer should be short-circuited) since the only actions remaining are to select a menu item (release over dropdown) or cancel (release outside dropdown). -- Regression: FF4: back button history dropbox only opens if point is held still. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682401 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can you also follow the instructions in the CUPS error_log section of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems, but instead of sending a print job, let system-config-printer request the ink levels. For that start system-config-printer, right-click your printer's icon, choose Properties and in the dialog appearing then click Ink/Toner levels at the left. Thank you for reporting this issue. ** Changed in: xiphos (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- xiphos crashed with SIGSEGV in main_update_parallel_page() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/413697 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 682159] Re: Cannot install Ubuntu-Server 10.04.1 32 bit using a PATA DVD drive
Based upon discussion in this thread on linuxquestions.org http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?p=4173895#post4173895 I tried installing Ubuntu 10.04.1 using the Alternate CD in a PATA DVD drive. Same failure. Perhaps this issue is hardware related. The server and desktop are both of the same vintage - old Pentium 4 machines. Unfortunately I do not have any newer hardware with PATA available. The newer stuff is all SATA. [Bug 670092] Re: Ubuntu 10.10 crahes while activating standby mode
Had the same issue with my SL500 as well. Resolved itself today after updating my OS. I don't know what caused it, but... actually I'm okay with it gone. :-) ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Ubuntu 10.10 crahes while activating standby mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/670092 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 346095] Re: Regression: bubble location setting from notification-daemon is not migrated to notify-osd
Excuse me, but SABDFL decided this would NOT be adjustable! Stop flogging the team. I actually like the notion of one person being able to resolve issues like this. It's a design decision and SABDFL had his say on it, end of story! -- Regression: bubble location setting from notification-daemon is not migrated to notify-osd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 669269] Re: Desktop effects could not be enabled
@Duncan you can run a routine from the command line as described here... http://blog.grossmeier.net/2009/03/02/apport-collect-just-what-you-wanted/ ...if you want to add apport into a specifically numbered bug, or perhaps you tried this already. On this occasion you should file a separate bug, because the hardware signature you have for your graphics card is very different from mine. Consequently it's different software which is loaded to handle your card. They arrive at similar end points (desktop effects could not be enabled) but take different routes to get there. Consequently anything which fixes my problems is unlikely to fix yours, and vice versa. -- Desktop effects could not be enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669269 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
