[Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-20 Thread Henrik Rydberg
@anton: the click pad issue is a separate problem, which is also being
worked on.

The attached package is for maverick only, and is similar to the final
final upstream version. Should appear in natty in the beginning of the
new year. Thanks to everyone reporting!

[Bug 692559] [NEW] package nscd 2.11.1-0ubuntu7.6 failed to install/upgrade: underprocess installerade post-installation-skript gav felkod 1

2010-12-20 Thread Björne Lindberg

[Bug 692457] Re: Please merge bash 4.1-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-12-20 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Hello Mahyuddin

I'm not a core-dev and I cant upload your package but a few observations

1. I cant find any debian/README file in the debdiff but why do you
mention it in the changelog?

2. I am quite confused as to how does debian/skel.bashrc and the patch
function looking at your changelog

3. I find this change

-Pre-Depends: dash (= 0.5.5.1-2.2), ${shlibs:Pre-Depends}, ${misc:Depends}
+Pre-Depends: dash, ${shlibs:Pre-Depends}, ${misc:Depends}

was the versioning change intentional or non intentional?

[Bug 692562] [NEW] ssh -i completion throws bash error

2010-12-20 Thread Erik Gregg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bash-completion

This is hard to actually capture since apparently a carriage return is
output and overwrites the rest of the line..

ssh -i bash: $index: substring expression 0

Basically, to reproduce, try this:

1. type 'ssh someu...@somehost'
2. move cursor back between ssh and someuser
3. type '-i ' and hit TAB
4. Error happens.

NOTE: You must follow the instructions exactly. If you do 'ssh -i' and
then hit TAB, it works.

[Bug 692388] Re: hplip missing dependency for python-qt4-dbus

2010-12-20 Thread Till Kamppeter
Which program of HPLIP did you try to start? How did you start it (menu,
command line? post exact command line).

In a default installation on GNOME/GTK-based Ubuntu flavors (Ubuntu,
Edubuntu, Xubuntu) we do not ship the graphical user interface of HPLIP,
as it needs the Qt$ libraries and these do not fit onto the Desktop CD.
To enable the HPLIP utilities with graphical user interface install the
hplip-gui package. Many utilities can be used in command line/text
mode by running them with the -i command line option.

- What about single user mode? I guess when switching to runlevel 1 we
want to stop services like mysql?
- How do you decide if a service is 'slow to stop' ? Imho that
highly depends on the given hardware, local configuration and the
amount of data you are dealing with. A general approach would be
preferable.

[Bug 670629] Re: EULA not shown for Microsoft Fonts

2010-12-20 Thread Rick Spencer
@Amanda,

I don't think anyone was implying that we shouldn't show the EULA. I
believe the bug comment you are referring to was asking why we would
shoe the EULA on *upgrade* as the user would have already accepted the
EULA when the fonts were installed.

We need to ascertain if the EULA is being continually shown after it has
been accepted, because that would, indeed, be a bug.

[Bug 692568] [NEW] Printer shouldn't be paused after backend failed

2010-12-20 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

When printing fails for some reason (backend failed message), printer
is paused, and won't resume automatically, even after a reboot. This is
silly because there's no notice about that in the print dialog nor in
the print queue: you have to go to System-Administration-Printing, and
be very clever to understand how to re-enable the printer.

In most cases, the fact that something failed doesn't mean other
documents won't print, and generally users will figure the error better
by themselves than with a paused printer.

This is in Lucid 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.3 (not sure in Maverick).

[Bug 294648] Re: svn over https with client certificates broken (regression in intrepid)

2010-12-20 Thread John Ryan
I've been digging through the source trying to track down the problem I
am experiencing. This has actually led me into the source for
libgnutls26 rather than neon but I'm posting here for completeness.
libneon-gnutls27 calls gnutls_handshake() in libgnutls26 which calls
_gnutls_handshake_client() which appears to proceed through the
following stages successfully:

Send hello.
Receive server hello.
Receive server certificate.
Receive server key exchange message.
Receive server certificate request message.
Receive server hello done.
Send client certificate.
Send client key exchange.
Send client certificate verify.

It then calls _gnutls_handshake_common() which first successfully calls
_gnutls_send_handshake_final() but falls over on
_gnutls_recv_handshake_final() where it interprets the response from the
server as a GNUTLS_ALERT packet instead of a GNUTLS_CHANGE_CIPHER_SPEC
packet.

I have to assume that it is the gnutls client misinterpreting the packet
rather than the server sending something unexpected because client
certificate authentication works when using the LD_PRELOAD workaround
and also when using Firefox.

I really want to get this working so I'll keep digging but if anyone has
any ideas or wants to discuss please let me know.

[Bug 692569] [NEW] unity --replace would be nice

2010-12-20 Thread Shane Fagan
Public bug reported:

This was a bug before and was fixed in the update a week ago since now
you can launch unity by just calling it on the command line. Adding a

gnome-shell is called like that.

[Bug 496616] Re: Mediaplayer crashed with pa_stream_writable_size() failed: Connection terminated

2010-12-20 Thread pablomme
@David: I've had a little free time to test this on my Maverick PC with the
2.6.33-rt kernel which suffers from this. I tested by opening several wav/mp3
files with Totem, skipping around in the timeline for about a minute or until
the bug was triggered. I found that:
- pulseaudio 0.9.22 does not solve the problem
- your pulseaudio package alone seems to solve the problem
- your gstreamer package alone seems to solve the problem (now thinking, does
this affect mp3 playback? maybe I didn't insist enough on the mp3s this time
around)
- both your packages at the same time seem to solve the problem
The fact that both updated packages independently fix the issue would appear to
indicate that this bug is (at least in my case) the consequence of several
sub-optimal bits of code rather than a single point of failure...

[Bug 577183] Re: keyboard and/or mouse freezing

2010-12-20 Thread Daniel G Schroeder
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 528720 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528720

Hello,
This weekend was starting to work on an old p4s800 machine that I was given.

I saw two issues one was have issues with the network card responding
(on-board). Was able to we configure and get this working (however the
issue appeared that it would partially work the stop).

Next was this issue, most of the time I was seeing the freeze are the
login prompt. Started with 10.04.1 Downloaded Dec 18, 2010 I386 desktop
version.

Was able to get around this by turning off hyper-threading. I am going
to try some of the ideas I found in various places but I believe the
issue could be related to the hyper-threading. I hope this info helps.

2010-12-20 Thread Daniel G Schroeder
Hello,
This weekend was starting to work on an old p4s800 machine that I was given.

[Bug 691750] Re: application window class should be in a separate file

2010-12-20 Thread Michael Terry
Well, sort of. The latest code has moved most of the code to a
BaseProjectWindow class. But there is still a bit of the class in the
main script, for the user to modify and customize.

But I'm actually thinking now that I'm not sure why we have any widgets
in the main script. That it should be reserved for initialization code
(which is getting larger all the time as we add more features and the
ability to launch from /usr, /opt, or bzr). That way, the python module
would hold all the widgets.

I'm re-opening with that intention. Maybe we can rename
BaseProjectWindow to just ProjectWindow and move the last bits of code
into it.

2010-12-20 Thread Till Kamppeter
This seems not to be any bug of the packaging of HPLIP, but a problem of
the package source disappearing, like for example a network access
problem or a bug in the package manager. Moving to dpkg. Please close if
it not a bug of the package manager.

[Bug 598824] Re: atd fails to start on new kernel 2.6.35-6

2010-12-20 Thread the
This AT issue seems to be solved for Maverick only:

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx - AT Version: 3.1.11-1ubuntu5

So Lucid still contains the older, non patched version of at and atd.
I agree, this problem still exists in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.

[Bug 677516] Re: No sign of updates still being installed when shutting down

2010-12-20 Thread Sergey Shnatsel Davidoff
Chowning to daemon and setting suid fixes it indeed. But there's another
problem: we face a race condition between unattended-upgrades and
plymouth. My way to workaround this is to create a separate process
which tries to show the message several times with some interval (I did
so in my greeter script and it works), but I don't know how to implement
this in Python.

[Bug 573516] Re: Xfce Crashes When Choosing Theme Wildbush

2010-12-20 Thread Charlie Kravetz
From the Xfce developers comments on
http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6672 :

The X server crashes with:

Fatal server error:
exaGetPixmapFirstPixel called for invalid bpp 1

That is a bug in the X server or the Xorg driver and definitely not an
application issue, this should be reported and tracked with Xorg.

It is reported here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24703

Xorg devs are looking for a backtrace of the X server, from gdb.

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2010-January/048821.html may also be
of interest.

James wrote on 2010-12-13: I cannot. I get no errors that I can see on a

Something similar here, after a few boots I keep getting errors when
running fsck on the USB device. I do see lots of i/o errors' just
before shutdown, so it looks like it isn't being cleanly unmounted.
Right now home-rw is marked full and there is a corrupt d? ? ?

[Bug 690901] Re: prints blank pages

2010-12-20 Thread Till Kamppeter
The test print looks like that no pure black (ink from black cartridge)
gets printed. Are you sure that your black cartridge is not empty? You
can check ink levels running the command

hp-levels

in a terminal window.

Note also that the update you mentioned did not change the driver for
your printer (It is a fix for Color LaserJet printers). Perhaps also
power-cycling your printer can help.

Did there come along other printing-related updates (cups, ghostscript,
foomatic-..., ...)?

[Bug 690798] Re: arduino USB serial device breaks on lucid kernel upgrade

2010-12-20 Thread Alex Williamson
Just to be clear, 677aeafe19e88c282af74564048243ccabb1c590 is NOT in the
lucid kernel, while 6a1a82df91fa0eb1cc76069a9efe5714d087eccd is. So
lucid is carrying a patch that has been reverted upstream and as
described, changes the kernel back to the previous way of working. Git
says it was added to lucid in Ubuntu-2.6.32-24.39-110-g55b5b54, which
coincides with when the device stopped working.

[Bug 651678] Re: crashes with assertion failure on startup

2010-12-20 Thread vedavata
I have the same problem with Evolution :

==
$evolution

** (evolution:23489): CRITICAL **: categories_icon_theme_hack: assertion
`filename != NULL *filename != '\0'' failed EI: MAIL PREFS**

Gtk:ERROR:/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.22.0/gtk/gtkrecentmanager.c:1942:get_icon_fallback:
 assertion failed: (retval != NULL)
Aborted
==

And such solution helps:
==
rm -f ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4 evolution
==
But why i should do this from time to time?..
