[Bug 748739] Re: no config tool currently provided for Ubuntu Unity Plugin

2011-04-04 Thread Doug McMahon
The intent here, (of this bug), was to see if there was to be a simple
way provided to adjust only the available unity plugin settings and
possibly some general settings like desktop size (previously available
in gnome-panels workspace switcher.

While post 14 has put a more complete perspective on this, I still
believe one should be, unless by release there isn't anything of any
significance remaining, at least in regards to user experience.

So in that light the 2 setting's that could be considered a positive for unity
and user experience are the launcher mode and launcher/icon size.
If either or both of those remain adjustable then I'm sorry that I can't see
the reasoning for not wanting to make this a visible feature of unity.

While obviously ccsm , gconf-editor, ect are available to users, in this
limited instance, (unity plugin), they are less than ideal for the general
user, many of which will not even know about.
(and there are plugins in ccsm that are quite likely to create issues on
their own if enabled and or mis-configured

[Bug 750740] [NEW] MacbookPro keyboard backlight toggle button not functional

2011-04-04 Thread Steve Magoun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

My MacbookPro 3,1 has a keyboard backlight toggle button (F8) in
addition to the keyboard backlight up/down buttons (F9/F10). The
keyboard backlight up/down buttons correctly adjust the keyboard
backlight and display a notification, but the toggle button doesn't. Do
we need to handle GPM_BUTTON_KBD_BRIGHT_TOGGLE in addition to
GPM_BUTTON_KBD_BRIGHT_[UP,DOWN] in the key-handling code in gpm-
backlight-kbd.c?

None of the tricks suggested on this thread works for me.

[Bug 749732] Re: [nvidia] glslideshow crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

No, I have reproduced this bug only 2 times.

> Does it happen if you run /usr/lib/xscreensaver/glslideshow in a Terminal
> window?
I have tried about 20 times and couldn't reproduce it. But I noticed one
strange things: if gnome-screensaver-preferences was run through Control Center
then sometimes I didn't see screen saver preview in preview area. But all runs
through terminal show preview.

Also I have attached Xorg.0.log and going to attach extra detail
information about crash (it was collected after second crash)

Thanks

Ah, ok.

The other bug (I don't have the bug # here) is fixed as much as is
possible; you do have to set some extra options to prevent bzr-svn from
accessing the repository root that should be documented there.

Cheers,

[Bug 750730] [NEW] [Lenovo T410] Black bar displayed on some resolutions

2011-04-04 Thread Marc Legris
Public bug reported:

When switching to a resolution below the max resolution of 1280 x 800,
there is a black bar displayed on the left hand side of the monitor. In
addition, switching back to the max resolution removes the black bar,
but the screen is not refreshed properly when the previous resolution
was set at the lowest possible . A user would have to manually move an
application around the screen to force the screen to redraw.

[Bug 750731] [NEW] cannot arrange dual head displays correctly in unity

2011-04-04 Thread Barry Warsaw
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I have a Radeon HD 4670 connected to two Dell 20" flat panels. When
running Unity on Natty in non-mirror mode, I do get two independent
screens but they are not in the right order, elements are not in the
right place, and the Monitors system setting cannot be used to set
things right. Here are some problems:

* Initial screen configuration had the two monitors reversed, such that
when I moved the cursor off the left side of the left screen, it wrapped
around to the right edge of the right screen.

* When I used the Monitor settings to swap the screens left and right,
the cursor wrapped correctly, however the dock is now on the left edge
of the right screen (i.e. in the middle of the apparent full desktop).

* The Ubuntu menu is also on the left edge of the right screen.

* The notification applets are duplicated, showing up on the right edge
of both the left and right screens.

* The application menu is against the left edge of the left screen.

There seems to be no way to configure the layout the way it should be:
with cursor wrapping correctly, Ubuntu menu and dock on left side of
left screen, application menu next to that, and notification applets
only on the right edge of the left screen. In fact it would be ideal to
not even have a menu bar on the right screen. This is how dual-head
works in classic Desktop.

[Bug 750728] [NEW] Unity dock does not obey compiz window rules plugin

2011-04-04 Thread zorgoth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I have a window which is set by window rules to skip taskbar and be
unclosable. To be precise, I have an instance of the terminal emulator
terminator as part of my desktop background (i.e. I made it unclosable,
skip taskbar, unminimizable, unmaximizable, fixed size, fixed placement,
unmovable, sticky, undecorated) I have other windows of the same class
that should be picked up by the taskbar. If I open an ordinary
terminator window, the dock says there are two terminators, and allows
me to close my (supposedly uncloable) background terminator. If I close
the normal window, it still says there is one terminator open, which is
the background terminator it is not supposed to see, as you can confirm
by trying to close it. You will also get the same issue if you try to
make a launcher on the unity dock for terminator. This bug did not
exist in gnome-panel - it also doesn't appear in cairo-dock. So I
presume that unity's taskbar has something wrong with it.

To reproduce:

Install terminator from the repository.

Set Skip Taskbar and nonclosable in Window Rules to role=testing.

Run 'terminator --role=testing' (My Alt-F2 refuses to run this; you may
need to use a terminal to run the command)

Open another terminator instance without the --role=testing switch,
and/or try to make terminator a launcher. You will observe the dock
misbehaving.

 id3cp source-with-tags.mp3 destination-without-tags.mp3

[Bug 533985] Re: Bash completion whitelisting returns no results when it could return some that do not match

I confirmed that test.tar.xz does not work on stock natty, and that
after Clint's patch, it does complete.

(For testing, I started a fresh terminal after each step, since within a
particular shell session bash_completion changes don't automatically
take effect.)

[Bug 635893] Re: update-apt-xapian-index crashed with OverflowError in index()

2011-04-04 Thread Nick Sharp
Hmm, I doubt if my report added anything useful to this bug's solution,
so I'm sorry to have taken system and/or people cycles in marking it as
a duplicate. I do see that there are many more duplicates, so I am not
alone!

I'm not very adept at bug submission, but as I have decided to trial
natty beta1, I thought I should try it. I may be raving, but it seemed
to me that the system suggested the package name was update-apt-xapian-
index (which does not exist by that name?) whereas the main report shows
it to be apt-xapian-index.

My point is that perhaps the bug reporting software and launchpad system
needs a bit more work to help bug-reporting-novices to avoid so many
duplicates.

I've actually been Linuxing (Fedora/CentOS, more recently Ubuntu) for
nearly a decade now, but have not done much bug reporting at all.

Looking forward to natty release!

I get a 403 error at the root of the repo: /repos/hayden. Notice from
the command line that I'm trying to check
out /repos/hayden/ekiden-svn/trunk. I do have permissions to that
directory, and can log into the web server and click around and view
files in that directory. I just don't have permissions to the root
folder of the repo (and adding permissions to the root folder of the
repo fixes this issue).

In SVN, I can successfully check out just the repository I want, even
though I don't have read permissions to the root directory.

This is similar to the bug I linked to in the original report -- it
seems to be the same behavior. That bug is marked as fixed, and I'm
using the version that it's marked as fixed in, so I'm not sure what's
going on.

[Bug 740387] Re: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop

2011-04-04 Thread Bill Filler
I was able to reproduce the corruption with
/apps/metacity/general/capture_before_unmap set to false which rules out
this patch being the problem.

I tested on natty using with nvidia graphics and natty beta and latest
from unity-2d dpaily ppa. See attached video. This is how I am able to
reproduce reliably:

1) make sure you have files on your desktop (not sure if this is required)
2) open two terminals and have them overlap
3) show dash using Super key
4) hide dash using Super key
5) show applications place by clicking on launcher
6) hide it pressing Super key
7) show dash pressing Super key
bang, the windows that were beneath the apps place are corrupted

think of anything besides DBus crashing that would cause this. Have you
seen the issue again since you've reported the bug?

[Bug 748486] Re: nm-applet does not refresh with VPN changes

2011-04-04 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
There is some amounts of delay between disconnecting or connecting a
VPN. I don't think we can really easily get rid of that. However, I can
confirm new VPN connections aren't immediately available, I think we
should fix that.

2011-04-04 Thread Brad Figg
This issue was originally filed against Karmic. The original submitter
has stated that he has an acceptable workaround and doesn't consider
this an issue any longer.

If this is still an issue, please open a new bug for it and attach all
relevant logs.

Note: You may want to try the ubuntu-maverick-lbm if you are running
Maverick and still experiencing the issue.

I think the icon on the launcher by default should be the "home folder",

[Bug 747113] Re: [FFe] Please upgrade to 0.7

2011-04-04 Thread Artur Rona
Package builds fine on my PPA:
- i386 https://launchpad.net/~ari-tczew/+archive/testing/+buildjob/2422750
- amd64 https://launchpad.net/~ari-tczew/+archive/testing/+buildjob/2422749

I use clementine every day and it works fine, without problems on KDE.
Everyone can install it from my PPA. Full source changes are available
to review on branch linked to this bug. I attached changelog since 0.6
release. Clementine is not a library so there is no regression risk.

The above shows that the diversion is indeed probably registered but that for
some reason it still returns the old path instead of "useinstead".

The condition that's producing this result is:

  r=
(namenode->divert->useinstead && namenode->divert->pkgset != pkg->set)
  ? namenode->divert->useinstead : namenode;

I tried adding the following to the namenodetouse() function in help.c:
printf("divert_useinstead=%s, divert_pkgset=%s, pkgset=%s, namenode=%s,
using=%s\n",namenode->divert->useinstead,namenode->divert->pkgset,pkg->set,namenode,r);

That would have given me more details on exactly what's going on but
dpkg doesn't seem to build today because of another unrelated issue:

[Bug 750592] Re: [Lenovo W510] SD card fails to mount automatically

2011-04-04 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
Is the issue specific to the sd card being used? (that is, the problem
happens with other sd cards, or with just only with Kingston 2GB MicroSD
Flash Card)

Would be good to test also with maverick kernel from bug 730820 just as
a sanity check, but the fix there is on natty kernel checking the
source, so I expect this to be a new issue.

Thanks EduardoR and sorry for the delay. I uploaded the fixed package in
my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~gilir/+archive/unstable), for natty and
maverick. Please confirm that the translation is OK.

[Bug 710678] Re: gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in _panel_applet_frame_update_flags()

2011-04-04 Thread Steve Brown
Same here. Happens for me upon upgrade to natty. My user-defined
session apparently has applets that natty upgrade broke -- the problem
resolves if I use the fresh "ubuntu classic" session (how can I isolate
which?). We should look into this regression (users will log in and be
presented with blank screen -> panic!)

(gdb) p frame->priv.panel
$1 = (PanelWidget *) 0x0
(gdb) p frame->priv.applet_info
$2 = (AppletInfo *) 0x0
(gdb) p frame->priv.iid
$3 = (gchar *) 0x958c298 "OAFIID:GNOME_WindowPicker"

[Bug 726692] Re: Screen backlight adjustment stopped working on MacBook Pro 5, 4 and other hardware

2011-04-04 Thread Steve Magoun
The keyboard backlight controls do work in Natty on my MacbookPro 3,1
[GeForce 8600M GT] using the nvidia-current (270.30-0ubuntu3) driver.
The notifications work as expected too.
