[Bug 762035] Re: package linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic 2.6.38-8.42 failed to install/upgrade: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure can be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. If this does resolve your bug please set its status to Invalid. [Bug 766827] [NEW] motd not updating
Public bug reported: Following recent updates, the /var/run/motd file is being updated properly, but the data contained within is not. This refers specifically to the data udpated by the following scripts: /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-cpu-checker /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-reboot-required /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available I have verified this behaviour on several of our machines, all of which are running Ubuntu Server 10.04. I've manually run /usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check --human-readable (called from /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available) and it outputs accurate data: it@milpat:~$ /usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check --human-readable 0 packages can be updated. 0 updates are security updates. Running the /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available script itself returns the appropriate data: it@milpat:~$ sudo /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available 0 packages can be updated. 0 updates are security updates. it@milpat:~$ But even after running the script manually, the motd file does not contain the new data: dmcgarry@emigre:~/devel/goofalicious/src/Goofalicious$ ssh milpat Linux milpat 2.6.32-4-pve #1 SMP Thu Oct 21 09:35:29 CEST 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS Welcome to Ubuntu! * Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/ 8 packages can be updated. 2 updates are security updates. I broke down and put a DVD drive into that system and it worked. I am still convinced the bootloader that is written to the USB is incompatible with our motherboards. [Bug 766816] [NEW] unity in expo/spread mode panel icon menus are not accessible
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity When using expo/spread mode (Super-W, Super-S), icons on the panel (calendar, etc) can be clicked but their menus aren't actually made accessible/visible. When returning from expo/spread mode, the panel icon looks as if it has been clicked, but the menu is still not visible. You need to click on a panel icon again to get things back to normal. This is pretty much a minor cosmetic issue. I think the panel icons should either be completely inaccessible or fully accessible in expo/spread mode, not somewhere in between. If you are unable to boot as a result of similar symptoms as was seen in this bug (which should be fixed by now, presumably, comment/report new if not) there is a possible workaround to enable booting after the grub config file has been written whilst grub-probe is unable to detect the btrfs: 1. I just noticed something while looking at my Xorg.0.log after a couple of dock/undock cycles leading to the black screen. I'm attaching the full log, but what I noticed was: boot up undocked: [ 5.897] (II) intel(0): Allocated new frame buffer 1472x900 stride 6144, tiled matches a 1440x900 panel dock: [ 370.652] (II) intel(0): Allocated new frame buffer 3840x1200 stride 15360, tiled makes sense, I now have 2x1920x1200 monitors undock: [ 414.405] (II) intel(0): Allocated new frame buffer 1472x900 stride 6144, tiled back to the 1440x900 panel dock again: [ 434.873] (II) intel(0): Allocated new frame buffer 1920x1200 stride 7680, tiled now it only allocates a buffer for one monitor -- which probably explains why the second monitor never lights up I'm not sure what layer of the stack is responsible for figuring out what buffer to allocate etc but this does seem like the first real clue I've seen to where the problem lies. ** Attachment added: "xorg.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/745112/+attachment/2071439/+files/xorg.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745112 Title: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager This may be related to bug #697095, which automatically opened when I rebooted. But it also may be completely different. Basically, it seems like update-manager isn't really working anymore. I'll report back in a couple days, but here's the info from the other bug: "Natty Narwhal beta testing. Ran update manager and rebooted, logged in and noticed my theme was broken. Checked updates (which was too quick,) and rebooted again. Got this error upon running update manager. Regarding the quickness: Update-manager used to download 13MB of update cache, and now it only downloads 2KB before stating there are no updates available. Either the update system has been redesigned to need less data to update the cache (if so, nice job!) or something is very wrong with it." [Bug 732677] Re: bcmwl 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu2 not work on BCM4311
If you read the previous comments carefully you will find this potential workaround. I can't confirm it works but Broadcom reckon it's a common issue: [from http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txt] * If the wl driver loads but doesn't seem to do anything: the ssb module may be the cause. Sometimes blacklisting ssb may not be enough to prevent it from loading and it loads anyway. (This is mostly seen on Ubuntu/Debian systems). Check to see if ssb, wl or b43 is loaded: # lsmod | grep "b43\|ssb\|wl" If any of these are installed, remove them: # rmmod b43 # rmmod ssb # rmmod wl Back up the current boot ramfs and generate a new one. # cp /boot/initrd.img-`uname -r` somewheresafe # update-initramfs -u # reboot -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732677 Title: bcmwl 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu2 not work on BCM4311 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
