[Bug 777656] [NEW] Overlay scrollbar handle covers Eclipse scrollbar markers

2011-05-05 Thread Jens Askengren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: overlay-scrollbar

The overlay scrollbar used in Ubuntu 11.04 causes problems with Eclipse
scroll bar markers.

When you reach for the scrollbar to click on a marker, the scroll handle
pops up over the marker, efficiently making the markers unclickable. See
the attached screenshot.

The scrollbar markers in Eclipse are extremely useful. They allows the
user to jump directly to an error in the code, a search result, etc. I
can't work efficiently without this feature. Is there a way to disable
the overlay scrollbars?

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 777655] [NEW] ubuntuone doesnt split long lines

2011-05-05 Thread Redmar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Long (translated) strings are not split in Ubuntu one client, so part of the
message is not visible.
It would be better if long lines would be split over two lines. The screenshot
attached shows an example for Dutch, but its likely that this is a problem for
more languages, as English strings are generally shorter than translated
strings.

[Bug 777661] [NEW] gnome-volume-control doesn't /always/ remember sound theme between sessions

2011-05-05 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

In 11.04, if you select a sound theme in gnome-volume-control, it isn't
always remembered between sessions. It is a very strange bug. Sometimes,
it is remembered, other times it isn't and I don't know why. I use
Unity. Steps to reproduce:

1) Click the audio icon indicator.
2) Select preferences.
3) In the first tab, select a sound theme different from the currently selected
one.
4) close the dialog and repeat steps 1-3.
5) Observe that your choice is remembered.
6) log out and back in.
7) repeat steps 1-3: your choice of theme should now be forgotten.
9) if it is remembered, repeat steps 1-8 a few times and observe that the
setting is sometimes forgotten.

[Bug 777665] [NEW] [Natty] [Regression] Loud PLOK when starting sound

2011-05-05 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Public bug reported:

On a Dell Inspiron 9300

00:1e.2 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation
82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03)

When sound output is first used, either in KDE or Gnome, or when system
is resumed after suspend, it emits a very loud and annoying PLOK.

This issue didn't exist in Maverick and previously, on same system.

This issue doesn't exist on several other systems with different sound
hardware.

[Bug 777669] [NEW] Cannot click to highlight or interact with random files after upgrading to 11.04

2011-05-05 Thread TennSeven
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Using the Ubuntu classic desktop and looking through my documents,
pictures, music files and other files through xorg I noticed that in
every directory there are now a few files that I cannot click on at all.
To reproduce:

- Click on Places at the bottom of the desktop, and open Documents,
Music, Pictures, or any other place with a lot of files.
- Click on each file, one at a time, and find that eventually you will run into
a file that will not respond to left or right clicks (the file will not
highlight when you click on it, nor will a context menu appear when you
right-click on it).

Usually there will be two files in a row that you cannot click on, or
there will be one file that will only to, say, one out of every five
clicks and a file right below it that will never respond to clicks.
Sometimes opening a terminal window and renaming the unresponsive file
(via the mv command) will make it responsive again. Rebooting
x-windows (ctrl + alt + backspace) does not fix the problem. If one
file is made to be responsive usually another will become unresponsive.

Even when a file is unresponsive you can still highlight it using the
arrow keys, and open it by hitting enter.

The unresponsive files are no different in permissions, ownership or
file types of the files in the same directory that are still responsive.

I know this description may be hard to follow; a video of the behavior
is included.

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize windows upon clicking application's launcher

2011-05-05 Thread shinyblue
+1 for the minimise function.

Also, @MarkShuttleworth is wrong when he says clicking on the icon
ALWAYS ensures you SEE the app..

e.g. If you elect to have windows focus when the mouse moves over them
(very useful trad. GNU feature) then here's what happens:

1. You have -say- firefox open, but another window is covering all of it
except perhaps a tiny left edge. You want to use firefox.

2. Unity Launcher is correctly displaying an indicator of the current
Other App. You move your mouse over to the launcher intent on clicking
the firefox icon, but on your way focus is given to firefox because you
cross the edge of the window. By the time you arrive at the launcher, it
thinks firefox has focus, so clicking on it does NOTHING.

IMHO, clicking a unity launcher icon should not just FOCUS, but FOCUS
and RAISE. That way, what Mark says, which I suspect the intended
behaviour, will be true.

discrete is not. I'm using Linux Mint 10 Julia (ubuntu 10.10), 64-bit.

Here is some output :

 aticonfig --list-adapters
* 0. 01:05.0 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series

* - Default adapter

lspci
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility Radeon
HD 4200]

Both cards worked under windows 7 but not under linux.
It seems that my issue may be somehow related to this one:

[Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU)

2011-05-05 Thread jukka76
You can't, so it can't be used as a workaround.

Maybe the plugin has something what should be checked for? Maybe it prevents
compiz to recognize full screen windows, and then full screen workarounds are
not used?
I tried also to change the command to gtk-window-decorator in the plugin
settings, but no help.

Please see also the thread

[Bug 747309] Re: opening the dash should not desactivate the launcher

2011-05-05 Thread Mark Tyrrell
Just would like to add my tuppence. The launcher should be accessible
when the dash is invoked, here are some scenarios:-

1. I am using the application lens and then decide I want to use the
file lens instead. To do this currently, If I try to click the file lens
icon in the launcher the dash closes and the launcher becomes active
again, I then have to click a second time to invoke the lens... this
seems clunky.

2. I would like to add some new apps to the launcher. So I find them
using the application lens (let's say they are all internet apps) and
begin to drag them to the launcher. However, as soon as I go to drag
one, the dash closes... I guess to make the launcher active? This means
to add the other apps I have to invoke the dash again and add them one
at a time.

It just seems strange to have the launcher visible but not available. I
understand it needs to have less prominence, but it should certainly
still be accessible.

+1 for Mark's idea on re-saturation based on proximity.

[Bug 777689] [NEW] gnome applications freeze kde desktop when resizing

2011-05-05 Thread doweller
Public bug reported:

Install: Ubuntu 11.04 with all updates + kubuntu-desktop

When I resize a gnome application (e.g. gedit or terminator or gnome-
terminal) on the kde desktop from the lower right hand corner or by
double clicking the top bar in order to maximise the window KDE freezes
to absolute standstill. Mouse and keyboard do not work anymore, waiting
for things to better themselves does not help.

Changing window size from the sides or from the upper left hand corner
works.

Could this be related to a compiz?

[Bug 777685] [NEW] Unity Desktop is very slow (almost freezed) when decompressing with tar a LZMA file onto a USB Device in vfat

2011-05-05 Thread Nicolas Michel
Public bug reported:

I'm using Unity with Natty in 64 bits kernel.

I'm not pretty sure this issue is kernel related but since the problem
seems to be the WA (so IOPS workload), it may be.

Problem description :
- I have a 1,1GB LZMA compressed file onto a vfat USB storage device
- I launch a shell (guake - bash) and launch a tar -xvf file.lzma so the file
is decompressed directly onto the USB storage device
- Then my desktop is almost freezed
- a top tells me my CPU is overloaded because of the IOPS waiting time :
top - 11:10:42 up 22:38, 1 user, load average: 5.77, 5.88, 3.67
Tasks: 201 total, 2 running, 194 sleeping, 0 stopped, 5 zombie
Cpu(s): 5.0%us, 3.7%sy, 0.0%ni, 4.1%id, 86.9%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.3%si, 0.0%st
Mem: 3957404k total, 3922740k used,34664k free,37792k buffers
Swap: 6143996k total, 521680k used, 5622316k free, 359436k cached

Expected behavior
I know that USB storage devices are generally very slow so I can understand
that the job takes some times, but it should not makes the Unity Desktop
unusable.

nm

[Bug 777661] Re: gnome-volume-control doesn't /always/ remember sound theme between sessions

2011-05-05 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
I think I've found the problem. It seems that the settings aren't
flushed to disk immediately, so if you log out quickly after changing a
setting in gnome-volume-control, then it is forgotten. If you wait a
couple of minutes after selecting sound theme before you log out, then
it is remembered. But this is inconsistent with the rest of the dialog,
because the volume selection in the same tab is remembered regardless.
Steps to reproduce:

1) select a new sound theme in the preferences dialog.
2) log out immediately afterwards and log back in.
3) observe that the new theme is not remembered.
4) in the same tab in the dialog, set a new sound level
5) log out immediately and back in.
6) observe that the volume _is_ stored.
7) perform steps 1-6 again, but this time wait two minutes before logging out.
8) observe that everything works as expected.
