[Bug 641503] Re: Firefox address bar auto-complete fails

2011-05-08 Thread ngc2997
This is still present in FF 4.0.1 (Ubuntu 11.04, i386). In addition,
this might be related to combo boxes being unresponsive to mouse clicks
- i.e., clicking on a folder in the bookmarks toolbar does not open
(drop down) the appropriate entry, or else the opened drop down list
closes immediately when hit by the mouse pointer. At the same time,
autocomplete ceases to work, until I minimize FF and restore it
afterwards. After that, both autocomplete and opening combo boxes return
to normal operation. Hardly reproducible though..

Note: as indicated above, minimizing and restoring FF seems to help as a
workaround as well - at least, it does for me.

Hi,

As I said, it happened when I tried to upgrade the Ubuntu version to 11.04.
After failing to upgrade smoothly, I reformatted the hard drive and installed
from scratch.

Same problem on Clevo M722T (aka Syste76 Darter Ultra 3).
Tip in comment #13 fixes it for me as well (kill and restart upowerd).

It's a _very_ annoying bug as you can't safely work with cord unplugged.

[Bug 771633] Re: [Natty] Realtek ALC888 0x10ec0888 - mic not functional

2011-05-08 Thread Lucio M Nicolosi
Problem solved. What happened? I don't know.

Puzzled with the fact that I was the only guy in Ubuntu Natty planet
with a crashed sound, decided to give another try.

This time, instead of zsync-inc my .iso sources from
cdimage.ubuntu.com , zsync-ed from the actual Natty release in nearest
mirror (it shouldn't make any difference since I started seriously
testing Natty Beta just after the final release on April 28 - but, in
fact, there was a slight difference, less than .5%). Then burned a USB
stick from within the current and buggy Natty test install, instead of
using the Maverick application .

Booted from the USB stick in "test Ubuntu" mode, completely updated the
stick from the standard source, checked the microphone and of course it
didn't work.

Opened alsamixer in a terminal screen, because of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/771739 -
and enabled the rear mic - standard in my system.

Tested the Sound Recorder again and "voilà" it works! This time without
the serious distortions observed before.

Installed Natty on HD again, (third or fourth time) now from this
special stick, tested sound and it works, updated (almost 200 Mb in
file updates up to now) and it works, installed Skype and it still
works, enabled NVidia last video driver, rebooted and Unity is there,
and I still don't like it but at least the sound works.

What really happened? I really don't know, but somehow it is was
"magically" solved. I guess David Henningsson will be
happy to know or perhaps a bit intrigued, like me.

if I try to do Tools->'Unpack EndNote filter set' as per the online docs
to get access to the EndNote filters, a dialog pops up asking me for a
place to put a .zip file, and a name for it (would be nice if a default

[Bug 777853] Re: Bugs assigned to new targets are easily missed (their default values sort at the end of bug lists)

2011-05-08 Thread Robert Collins
** Description changed:

Bugs for a specific package, may actually require fixes in another
package as well to have a complete solution. This is a common task in
certain subsystems (ie. compiz and unity tend to require pairs), as
well as when a piece of plumbing is changed (set of projects needing
  recompiles, etc.).

When a bug is assigned to another package (or project, series etc.) it
starts off as being "New" and "Undecided". These defaults, if unchanged,
mean that the bug is effectively at the lowest possible priority for the
new target. This makes it very easy for the bug to be ignored.

If the person adding the new target does not *want* the bug to be
ignored, they have to set the priority and status on the new task. This
is a little fiddly, and often feels redundant, since the new priority
that they would set is probably going to be the same as the priority of
the existing task, and the status is going to be something predictable.

  One suggestion:

  for an existing bug #
-    to add a new product
-   inherit priority from existing product.
-   set status to confirmed by default (unless the existing product status
is new).
+    to add a new package
+   inherit priority from existing package.
+   set status to confirmed by default (unless the existing package status
is new).

This will help with the consistency of the bug database and get the
priorities closer to being right by default, which will help with
  prioritization by developers and managers.

[Bug 739469] Re: Dash search unavoidably returns offensive results

2011-05-08 Thread levu
Simply implement a user scope blacklist (e.g. some regexpes in
~/.config/unity/blacklist). Every person can put everything he wants to this
blacklist. The thing I wanted to point out is that, if you want to make
everyone happy, you have to deliver empty repositories...
An advantage of a config file instead of some dconf values is that you can
share your blacklists easily with others. E.g. you can share a "muslim
blacklist", a "atheist blacklist" and so on. Every content blocking makes more
persons unhappy than happy. I for myself want the dash to show all applications
and i would be unhappy with each filter.

[Bug 775788] Re: Acer 522 / Ubuntu 11.04 / No mic - Sound problems

2011-05-08 Thread tactus
Sorry about posting several times in a row, but I've found out that
"options snd-hda-intel model=,dell-vostro" is working in Debian unstable
with this sound card and I got jack plug sensing. The difference is the
comma between equal sign and dell-vostro. I didn't know it made a
difference so I ignored the comma in previous testing.

[Bug 779737] [NEW] Dragging from top bar stops working

2011-05-08 Thread abeisgreat
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I've been using unity since the official release of natty and at first
the ability to maximize windows and have the controls pushed into the
top bar worked fine and it still works fine. The issue is that
attempting to unmaximize the window by clicking and dragging on the top
bar has stopped working. Now, when attempting to drag from the top bar,
nothing happens and the window remains full sized.

I did some fiddling attempting to get dual monitors working, although
only with X, nothing with unity specifically. I'm running the
proprietary nvidia drivers, so it may have something to do with that.

[Bug 739469] Re: Dash search unavoidably returns offensive results

2011-05-08 Thread yman
@levu:
The problem being raised here is that people who don't want to see certain
things and aren't searching for them still find them popping up on their
desktop. Until PornView and any other apps one might find offensive stop
popping up on the desktops of unsuspecting users there is a problem.

A comment ridiculing other people's values and refusing to consider
accommodating their needs can hardly call for tolerance. Part of
tolerance is to allow freedom of expression, and part of it is to allow
people not to listen if they don't want to. Forcing people to see what
they don't want to see is an act of intolerance.

[Bug 779735] [NEW] Natty doesn't detect external USB harddisk drive

2011-05-08 Thread Heinrich Münz
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Natty, my external USB-2 harddisk drive isn't
detected any more. It is an ext3 formatted 3,5 '' drive with separate
power supply. It is connected directly to my PC's USB port (no
additional hub). I've already tried to connect it to another USB port,
but the result is still the same. Any other USB device (camera, printer,
mp3-player, memory stick etc.) is still detected correctly. The drive
itself is definitely not damaged, because it still works flawlessly
under Knoppix as it did in Maverick.

When I connect the drive to my Natty machine and type "ls -l /dev/sd*",
only the partitions of my internal drive (sda) will be displayed.

This is what "dmesg" says:

[Bug 739469] Re: Dash search unavoidably returns offensive results

2011-05-08 Thread IKT
"For example, a Saudi Ubuntu user might be similarly annoyed that
searching for "guide" returns "Xiphos Bible Guide" as a result, when
that's not installed either."

By "Saudi Ubuntu user" you mean Muslim right? Just because someone lives
in the Middle East ( and can be killed for not believing in Islam :/ )
does not automatically make them Muslim, this is an 101 on atheism, you
find atheists everywhere.

Should I be similarly annoyed if I as an atheist search for "guide" and
it returns anything that includes any references to any religion/cults?

How do you even begin to implement search filters like that?

[Bug 779732] [NEW] keyboard shortcuts don't work immediately after app closes

2011-05-08 Thread Caleb K
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I recently noticed that some keyboard shortcuts (for example Alt-F2 to
open the dash) don't work immediately after a program exits. For
example: run gedit, close using Alt-F4, press Alt-F2. Ideally, the dash
should open so that I can run another program. Instead, I have to click
on the desktop before the shortcuts are accessible again.

This is in 11.04, 64bit.

I don't think this is a couchdb problem - after all, several packages
failed to install independently. All of them seem to have problems
accessing some files on /etc, though. Can you confirm that it's mounted

PornView is an image and movie viewer/manager with thumbnail previews.
Additional features includes thumbnail caching, directory tree views,

presentation of images for hands-free viewing. Pornview is written using
GTK+. .

Why not just rename the program from pornview to freeview or
something...

usable system.
+ [Natty]: Regression: This workaround now only provides 2d/software rendering,
and one must either:
+* Choose choose the "Ubuntu Classic" session from the GDM Login screen
+or
+* Install the "unity-2d" package.
+
  [code]
  sudo su
  echo options radeon modeset=0 > /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
  exit
  [/code]
- Note that this doesn't totally fix the issue.
- Also, on Natty, it causes the system to fall back to software rendering, thus
preventing compositing.
+ Note that this doesn't totally fix the issue, but brings your desktop to a
workable state.

- Freedesktop.org has marked the bug as 'Fixed', although at present Launchpad
doesn't reflect this, and the code still needs to be compiled by someone and
tested. A new bugreport will need to be opened on freedesktop.org if it
doesn't work.
+ Freedesktop.org has dealt with one bug having to do with graphics corruption
on the rs690m. That bug has been fixed, but the issue of graphics corruption
in general has not been resolved. A new bug has been opened with
freedesktop.org to continue pushing through the resolution of this issue.

[Bug 632984] Re: libwx_gtk2u_media-2.8.so.0 missing from libwxgtk2.8-0

2011-05-08 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Hi,

I'm not sure this will be accepted as a SRU, as there is only one
functionality that is missing n the package and all the remaining
package works fine.

Anyway, as I was requiring it for a package I maintain, I backported it
in a PPA. You can find the fixed packages there: https://launchpad.net
/~dvdstyler-maintainers/+archive/ppa/+packages

[Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200

2011-05-08 Thread Brian Visel
De-duped bug #755791, as I duped it to this bug too hastily. I would
hate it if *this* bug got duped to another inaccurately, and apologize
for any inconvenience.

Though these two bugs (this one and #755791) have similar workarounds
(the workarounds Andre posted above are indeed useful), and though they
are with the same card, and have at points shared some symptoms, there
is not enough shared to say they are the same bug, and there's enough
different that it's likely they are not, particularly after re-checking
logs between the two. Again, apologies for any inconvenience.

[Bug 778038] Re: gray background for drop caps letters

2011-05-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
nZain, the reason Drop Caps has a gray background is to delineate that
the character(s) or word is a Drop Cap. The gray background does not
persist if one prints the page or exports to PDF. However, if your
looking for something different, this is not really a bug and requires
more discussion, which should be done on the LibreOffice mailing list:
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/ If this is not
something you want to see changed feel free to mark this bug Invalid.
Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 694910] Re: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

2011-05-08 Thread Aron Griffis
I ran into this problem and came up with a workaround using xsession and
xbindkeys, see http://blog.n01se.net/?p=314

[Bug 779691] Re: package libnb-java4-java (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

2011-05-08 Thread Ubuntu QA's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. If this does resolve your bug please set its status to
Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 779704] Re: package dockmanager (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/dockmanager/data/skype_away.svg', which is also in package faenza-icon-theme 0.9-ubuntu3

2011-05-08 Thread Darryl Dunnaway
dockmanager would not install until I first uninstalled faenza-icon-
theme. Once I did that, Dockmanager installed, then I reinstalled
faenza-icon-theme. Problem solved.

[Bug 773524] Re: [Toshiba Tecra R850] SD card reader doesn't work

2011-05-08 Thread Manoj Iyer
Appears to be the same issue we see with MMC cards on the X220.
mmcblk0: error -110 sending status command

IMHO this is caused because the MMC function of the Card reader chipset
gets in the way of the SD interfaces in the driver, there is a way to
disable the MMC function of the chipset so that we can use the SD
interfaces in the kernel to read MMC/SD/SDHCI cards. We need to know the
PCI config bits that needs to be written to the chipset. If the BIOS
vendor can give us that information we should be able to get this
working. Please refer to my email communications to the linux-input
upstream mailing list for details.

[Bug 630748] Re: iwlagn degrades quickly during normal wifi session

2011-05-08 Thread Scott Deagan
I have a Sony Vaio VPCF11S1E/B. Executing "lspci | grep -i network"
produces:

02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6200
(rev 35)

I am running the final release of 11.04 (all updates have been applied).

WiFi network functionality is unreliable, this is especially apparent
when streaming (watching YouTube) or trying to download large files
(anything around the 1GB mark). Everything starts off fine, but within
minutes the download (or stream) will grind to a halt. I have tried
stream and downloading the same files when I boot into Windows 7, and
everything works without any problems. Also, running speedtest
(http://www.speedtest.net/) the results are consistently 33% slower in
11.04 compared to Windows 7 or another laptop running 10.10 (friend's
laptop). In 11.04 it "feels" like the downstream is capped at 20Mb/s.

This is a difficult problem to pin-point (for me) as initially I thought
it may be the server(s) I'm downloading from or my ISP. However, after
running a battery of downloads (torrents, podcasts, linux distros) and
repeatedly watching YouTube clips on both Ubuntu 11.04 and Windows 7, I
can confidently say that the problem lies within Ubuntu 11.04
(somewhere).

It's so annoying that I cannot continue using Ubuntu 11.04 as I can't
even watch a 10 minute YouTube clip without the stream freezing within 2
or so minutes. I hope that a true fix will appear soon as I dread the
thought of returning to Windows 7.

[Bug 768509] Re: Sound menu shows last song instead of the current played music of Banshee

2011-05-08 Thread Michael Martin-Smucker
I don't necessarily agree that bug 771249 is a duplicate of this.
771249 was a FFE request with a much broader scope; it was influenced by
this bug, but also by several other (more severe, imo) bugs related to
track changes with gapless. But anyway, that makes little difference at
this point since the request was too late for Natty. Hopefully this
will all become irrelevant in the next cycle anyway, as the current plan
is to completely re-work Banshee's gapless implementation. See upstream
for more details: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=638943
