Re: [Bug 791051] Re: Chromium B.S.U game's start screen lettering is blocked and blurred
I sorry I just came across the game's issue because I am new to using Ubuntu and I was doing some of the tutorials that are online on YouTube, I believe its the amzertech. And that it was one of the games he uses on one of his tutorials, so I tried the game but it has problems that I mentioned. I like to learn more on how to use Ubuntu and part of it is the reporting bugs. I am using a AMD machine, a S6300NX Compac Presario and using the built-in graphics card integrated on the Motherboard. What other games are OpenGL, so that I may check if I am having problems with those type of game on my PC? I am guessing you have to have a graphic cards to play the game without gliches and OpenGL game require higher graphics processing. I was reading the Ubuntu community documents about the game applications and I think there is a specific channel that deals with bugs in games in Ubuntu. Paul Wise (Debian) 791...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: I cannot reproduce this on Debian with GNOME 2 running on an Intel GPU with Intel drivers. Which graphics card do you have? [Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
Same here on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty with a Western Digital Scorpio Blue. Every 7-8 seconds the load_cycle_count increases. Additionally, ff I activate HDD spin down when running on battery in the power manager, I hear a clicking noise of my hdd every second. I can gurantee that this clicking sound is unsual, normally when parking the hdd's head. Deactivation of spin down setting helps, but load_cycle increases still every 7 seconds. Based on this, it seems that there are still problems with the HDD management. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 Title: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/acpi-support/+bug/59695/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As #740126 seems to be related to Intel only I can't see that this is a duplicate. Shifting to a different display/console (Ctrl-Alt-F#) while using external dual-screens will result in black screens. Changing back I have a graphical glitch covering a square around where the mouse-pointer is at the moment that does not move arount with the mouse-pointer. While on my laptop-screen only I can change to a different terminal and restart gdm, that will usually fix the problem and I can start a new session. [Bug 616159] Re: Japanese incorrect/archaic Kanji
I would like to reopen this bug. I am not sure about the process for doing so, so forgive me if I'm not doing this right. I am using Ubuntu 11.04, ibus/anthy. However, I also experienced this problem in Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 10.10, and also in UIM/Anthy. It has come and gone, sometimes by replacing fonts, but it comes back, and I hope something can be done to create a permanent solution. When viewing or entering Japanese, I sometimes see archaic or incorrect kanji. the clearest example is 社. You may see the correct character there, but viewed on my system, the radical to the left is shimesu (示), not nehen (礻) as it should be. I have attached a screenshot. The larger kanji (which is an image) is correct, the one in the small blue box, which should be the same, is the old/archaic/incorrect form. This has been reported before, as above, and in the following places: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1487447 http://lists.tlug.jp/ML/1012/msg00044.html However, none of the suggested fixes have rectified the problem. I have attempted to reinstall fonts and remove any Chinese fonts as suggested. However, the problem returns. It exists in at least FireFox and LibreOffice. I have some known working fonts, so if, for example, I am working in LibreOffice and switch to a font known to work, then I can ensure I see the correct kanji. However, if I go to web sites or open documents that are created by other people, then I can not as easily ensure control over fonts and be confident I am getting the right kanji. In any case, this shouldn't be something I should have to manually monitor. Having installed Japanese support on my system, the default behaviour for all relevant character handling should be to show me the correct characters. [Bug 795418] [NEW] CVE-2011-1577
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Heap-based buffer overflow in the is_gpt_valid function in fs/partitions/efi.c in the Linux kernel 2.6.38 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to cause a denial of service (OOPS) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted size of the EFI GUID partition-table header on removable media. Fixed-by: 3eb8e74ec72736b9b9d728bad30484ec89c91dde commit 3eb8e74ec72736b9b9d728bad30484ec89c91dde Author: Timo Warns wa...@pre-sense.de Date: Thu May 26 16:25:57 2011 -0700 fs/partitions/efi.c: corrupted GUID partition tables can cause kernel oops The kernel automatically evaluates partition tables of storage devices. The code for evaluating GUID partitions (in fs/partitions/efi.c) contains a bug that causes a kernel oops on certain corrupted GUID partition tables. This bug has security impacts, because it allows, for example, to prepare a storage device that crashes a kernel subsystem upon connecting the device (e.g., a USB Stick of (Partial) Death). crc = efi_crc32((const unsigned char *) (*gpt), le32_to_cpu((*gpt)-head computes a CRC32 checksum over gpt covering (*gpt)-header_size bytes. There is no validation of (*gpt)-header_size before the efi_crc32 call. A corrupted partition table may have large values for (*gpt)-header_size. In this case, the CRC32 computation access memory beyond the memory allocated for gpt, which may cause a kernel heap overflow. Validate value of GUID partition table header size.
