[Bug 822796] [NEW] [Natty][Oneiric] WD "Green" drives have faulty NCQ need kernel quirk

2011-08-08 Thread Pete Graner
Public bug reported:

I have 8 WD Caviar Green 2TB SATA Drives, model number WD20EARS

When booting either Natty or Oneiric while doing large data transfers
(originally noticed during an rsync and validated by using dd) the
drives will only transfer 2-5MB/s.

When I run:

for device in h i j k; do echo 1 >
"/sys/block/sd$device/device/queue_depth"; done

The drives do 30MB/s

[Bug 615186] Re: md_d0 array fabricated, prevents mounting md0 partitions

2011-08-08 Thread Christian Hudon
Any reason why the following patches haven't been folded into Ubuntu
10.04 LTS? I had a similar problem (create md0 RAID1 array with one
device missing, after reboot it comes up as md_d0 instead) and these
patches (installed from the two packages in the PPA) fix that. It would
have saved me a couple of hours of work.

[Bug 734883] Re: mounting HFS+ volumes fails on large sector devices

2011-08-08 Thread Seth Forshee
The fix has made its way upstream for kernel version 3.1, and we've now
merged it for oneiric so it can receive further testing. When I feel
like the fix has been adequately tested I'll submit it for natty.

[Bug 822277] Re: Unity fails to launch

2011-08-08 Thread Akshay Bhat
Thanks for finding this Timo. I have 2 display cards on the laptop. I
have switchable setting in the BIOS disabled and have selected the Intel
graphics card under video. However to use the DVI port on the laptop I
need to use the ATI graphics card. So I reboot my laptop and select
video as ATI in BIOS on need basis. Is there a away to keep both drivers
without running into this issue esp. since I have only one of the
graphics card active at a time? Thanks again for your help.

[Bug 822539] Re: Unity stopped working after update

I found what unity_support_test displayed before:

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: unable to create the OpenGL context

I found it in this bug that seems similar but is closed:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/756583 - the reporter also had a
laptop with Optimus technology (the laptop has both Nvidia and Intel
cards).

[Bug 822539] Re: Unity stopped working after update

2011-08-08 Thread Magnes
Sorry, I forgot about it.
Before uninstalling nvidia-current: something about GLX missing
After uninstalling nvidia-current:

OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile GEM 20100330
DEVELOPMENT
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.10.2

Not software rendered:yes
Not blacklisted: yes
GLX fbconfig: yes
GLX texture from pixmap: yes
GL npot or rect textures: yes
GL vertex program:yes
GL fragment program: yes
GL vertex buffer object: yes
GL framebuffer object:yes
GL version is 1.4+: yes

Unity supported: yes

Also after the update and BEFORE reboot OpenGL stopped working in Java
(I'm developing OpenGL game in Java right now). After reboot Unity
wasn't working too.

Maybe the solution would be putting older version of nvidia drivers
until the bug is resolved (if others have the same problem with them)?
The update I installed almost certainly had new version of nvidia-
current and probably of Java (I've seen iced tea in there). It was the
first update I did in a month though, so I don't know how long the
problem was there.

[Bug 701044] Re: Semi-frequent freezes in nouveau

2011-08-08 Thread Andrew Dittes
I ran into a similar https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-
video-nouveauproblem using "Experimental 3D support for NVIDIA cards" on
my Macbook Pro running 11.04. I was able to move the mouse but unable to
do anything else, including switching to a different virtual terminal. I
did not try accessing the computer via ssh, and I just powered off the
machine manually. I have attached my Xorg log, which shows the same kind
of error as the end of Steveire's log:

[Bug 709955] Re: 03f0:241d Gobi wireless modem only works when rebooting from windows

2011-08-08 Thread Seth Forshee
This modem seems to require firmware that isn't distributed with Ubuntu,
and it requires you to install gobi-loader (sudo apt-get install gobi-
loader). There seem to be places to download the firmware, or else you
can copy it from your Windows partition. See the links below for
reference, and please post back here whether or not these help.

[Bug 821323] Re: BEEP game will not install -- 404 error

2011-08-08 Thread Gary Lasker
Hello FitzLT, thank you for your report and I'm very sorry for the
difficulty you had downloading Beep. It appears this error was a side-
effect of the fact that an upgrade to Beep was released just near the
time that you purchased it. Please launch Software Center and retry the
download. It should work this time, but please report back here if you
still have trouble.

Many thanks!

[Bug 822455] Re: Beep download does not work (Paid game)

2011-08-08 Thread Gary Lasker
Hi Malte, thank you for your report and I'm sorry for the trouble you
had downloading Beep. It appears this error was a side-effect of the
fact that an upgrade to Beep was released just near the time that you
purchased it. Please launch Software Center and retry the download. It
should work this time, but please report back here if you still have
trouble.

Many thanks!

R: [Bug 822704] Re: [R510/P510, Realtek ALC262, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2011-08-08 Thread marco casagrande
I could not hear any sound since I could not control the mixer elements.
By the way I solved the problem installing the soft. again. I might have
done some troubles doing practise with the terminal... I am a new
ubuntu-user. Thank for ur kindness anyway.

I am unclear what you mean by:
'I can not correct speakers' and headphones' options in my terminal
("alsamixer-D hw:Intel")'

Do you mean that you cannot hear any sound? Do you mean that you can't
control the mixer elements?

Examining your mixer controls, I see the following three mixer elements of note:
Simple mixer control 'Master',0
  Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Playback 0 - 31
  Mono:
  Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [0.00dB] [off]
  Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [0.00dB] [off]
Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
  Capabilities: pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Mono:
  Front Left: Playback [off]
  Front Right: Playback [off]
Simple mixer control 'Speaker',0
  Capabilities: pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Mono:
  Front Left: Playback [off]
  Front Right: Playback [off]

Note how the above three mixer controls are muted.

[Bug 822792] [NEW] Disk Usage Analyzer produce incorrect numbers on home directories

2011-08-08 Thread Kasper Dupont
Public bug reported:

Disk Usage Analyzer (/usr/bin/baobab) produce incorrect numbers on home
directories. When the tool is run from the command line it outputs an
error message saying:

glibtop: statvfs '/home/kasperd/.gvfs' failed

** (baobab:31935): WARNING **: error in dir /home/kasperd: Error stating
file '/home/kasperd/.gvfs': Transport endpoint is not connected

I suspect that after encountering this error baobab does not scan
remaining subdirectories and thus leaving out the directories
responsible for the majority of the space consumption.

[Bug 739831] Re: brasero does not create iso images if project is not saved

2011-08-08 Thread matteo sisti sette
I'm observing exactly the same, except that the workaround of saving the
project does NOT work.
Even if I _do_ save the project, a 2Mb only image is written.

I had added about 6Gb wirth of files. When writing finished (in a
suspiciously short time), it said it had succesfully written about 3Gb
(wrong size) and the _real_ image it has written was 2Mb.

[Bug 822784] [NEW] C++ ABI demangling is not used

2011-08-08 Thread Maciej Muehleisen
Public bug reported:

C++ ABI demangling does not seem to be used anymore producing strange
class names. Autoconf in Hardy created the following config-auto.h:

/* define if the compiler supports GCC C++ ABI name demangling */
#ifndef CPPUNIT_HAVE_GCC_ABI_DEMANGLE
#define CPPUNIT_HAVE_GCC_ABI_DEMANGLE  1
#endif

In the Lucid package it looks like this:

/* define if the compiler supports GCC C++ ABI name demangling */
/* #undef CPPUNIT_HAVE_GCC_ABI_DEMANGLE */

[Bug 627566] Re: package pxljr 1.1-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade:

2011-08-08 Thread Till Kamppeter
The terminal log contains:

dpkg-deb: `/var/cache/apt/archives/pxljr_1.1-0ubuntu7_i386.deb' is not a debian
format archive
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/pxljr_1.1-0ubuntu7_i386.deb
(--unpack):

[...]

Errors were encountered while processing:

[...]

/var/cache/apt/archives/pxljr_1.1-0ubuntu7_i386.deb

This looks like some problem with the mirror or a corrupted package file
on the local file system (try to remove
/var/cache/apt/archives/pxljr_1.1-0ubuntu7_i386.deb).

Not a bug of pxljr, closing ...

[Bug 726934] Re: [IDT 92HD71B7X] ALSA test tone not correctly played back, sound disappears at variable times

2011-08-08 Thread daBug
I had this problem several times, after my laptop ran for a while (not
sure if it only happened after hibernating the system). So far the only
solution was to reboot. I was reading many help pages, wiki and forum
entries, tried tons of things, and finally found this solving my issue,
in terminal type:

sudo alsa force-reload

Maybe it also helps the OP?

[Bug 822768] Re: Wrong dependencies

2011-08-08 Thread Sworddragon
** Description changed:

  I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 dev with nvidia-current 280.13-0ubuntu1.
Currently there are 2 bad depency-entries and the first one can cause
  the building process to fail:

   |Depends: linux-headers-generic
    Depends:
  linux-headers-3.0.0-7
  linux-headers-3.0.0-7-generic
  linux-headers-3.0.0-7-server
  linux-headers-3.0.0-7-virtual

Dependend on the kernel the version in the dependencies can differ.

  Without linux-headers-generic nvidia-current can't be build because
linux-headers-3.0.0-7 can be installed without linux-
  headers-3.0.0-7-generic and linux-headers-generic. For reproducing:
  Install linux-headers-3.0.0-7 and remove linux-headers-3.0.0-7-generic
and linux-headers-generic if installed. Now try to reinstall nvidia-
current. The dependencies are succesfully resolved because linux-
headers-3.0.0-7 is present but the building process will fail. The
- solution is to make nvidia-current only dependend to linux-headers-
- generic.
-
+ solution is to make nvidia-current only dependend to linux-
+ headers-[generic|server|virtual].

The second problem is only a minor one:

    Depends:
  xserver-xorg-core
    Depends: xserver-xorg-core

xorg-video-abi-10 is resolved to xserver-xorg-core but we have already
such an entry. On of the both entries can be removed.

[Bug 807022] Re: 11.04 fails to boot from USB 3.0 stick

2011-08-08 Thread Repabil
The only solutions in there that I think applies to this case is to use
(1) Ubuntu's own startup disk creator program and (2) to plug the USB
stick into an USB 2.0 slot instead of an USB 3.0 slot. As for (1), that
I what I used. As for (2) it helps, that is, it boots alright if I plug
the USB 3.0 stick into an USB 2.0 slot but not if I plug it into a USB
3.0 slot. But that is a workaround and not a fix.

[Bug 813566] Re: LightDM external monitor mirrors main screen, but garbled

2011-08-08 Thread Joe Barnett
Yes, still an issue with latest from oneiric.

Also noticed that the issue _does_ appear with GDM initially when X
starts up, but by the time the GDM greeter fully initializes, the
resolution/etc gets fixed. Note that everything gets fixed after login
with lightdm, so maybe something gnome-session is doing is fixing the
display, while X is initializing wrong for some reason?

[Bug 771905] Re: No logo at boot on nvidia card

2011-08-08 Thread magelan
I also tried it with comment 39, just used "radeon" instead. After the changes
described there, also initramfs-update, I made a reboot and was locked out of
the system! I could not enter my password for the decryption on the black
screen where normally no letters appeared and where normally I could blindly
type in the password (normally means with this bug active). Instead, the
English keyboard layout was active and the letters were printed on the screen.
So I tried the recovery console; did not work either, probably uses the same
initramfs. Then I chose the previous (normal) kernel version and could change
the file, but I just made a "#" before "modprobe radeon", so that it is a
comment. update-initramfs. Then: It worked. I could enter the password and now
even unity works and I solved this problem:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4126 and
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/unity-startet-nicht-mit-radeon-glx-ext-texture-fro/
 ("GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap missing").
With a commented "radeon modprobe" it worked for me.
Hope this helps everyone with the radeon driver.
Thank you.

Sorry to bounce responsibilty again, but this isn't a dnsmasq problem,
the search-domain function is implemented by the libc resolver code,
which should generate separate DNS queries for host2.domain1.local,
host2.domain2.local, etc. Dnsmasq's only role in this is to forward
those queries. Since from the log, the host2.domain2.local aren't
getting to dnsmasq, the problem must lie elsewhere.

Cheers,

Simon.

[Bug 822778] [NEW] wrongly and randomly detects disk capacity

2011-08-08 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

When I put a blank double layer 8GB DVD+R into the drive, Brasero says
there are 4.7 Gb on it. Then I eject it, insert the SAME disk again, and
it says 5.1Gb of free space.

The disk is a double layer 8Gb DVD and my drive has double layer
capability.

Because x11-common used to install stuff there for failsafe-x, and it's
now removing the remaining conffiles on upgrade, if found. Dunno why
it's trying to remove the directory though, maybe it should remove the

[Bug 822768] [NEW] Wrong dependencies

2011-08-08 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 dev with nvidia-current 280.13-0ubuntu1.
Currently there are 2 bad depency-entries and the first one can cause
the building process to fail:

 |Depends: linux-headers-generic
  Depends:
linux-headers-3.0.0-7
linux-headers-3.0.0-7-generic
linux-headers-3.0.0-7-server
linux-headers-3.0.0-7-virtual

Dependend on the kernel the version in the dependencies can differ.

Without linux-headers-generic nvidia-current can't be build because
linux-headers-3.0.0-7 can be installed without linux-
headers-3.0.0-7-generic and linux-headers-generic. For reproducing:
Install linux-headers-3.0.0-7 and remove linux-headers-3.0.0-7-generic
and linux-headers-generic if installed. Now try to reinstall nvidia-
current. The dependencies are succesfully resolved because linux-
headers-3.0.0-7 is present but the building process will fail. The
solution is to make nvidia-current only dependend to linux-headers-
generic.

The second problem is only a minor one:

  Depends:
xserver-xorg-core
  Depends: xserver-xorg-core

xorg-video-abi-10 is resolved to xserver-xorg-core but we have already
such an entry. On of the both entries can be removed.

[Bug 705949] Re: (Needs Q4 -intel) [Arrandale] Gateway NV79 Backlight and Monitor trouble

2011-08-08 Thread madbiologist
I think there are two bugs here.

The first one about the backlight appears to be fixed for most people
(the suspend issue is probably a separate bug).

The second bug with the screen split by a diagonal black line (which
only occurred when working around the first bug) might be
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38851 , which has been
fixed upstream in the recently released kernel 3.1-rc1, and cc'd to the
stable kernel maintainers for their consideration. A PPA of this kernel
is available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

I'd also fixed the exception handling in my local copy, and in

Additionally, I added a hacky check so it doesn't get confused when I

[Bug 768340] Re: Wrong screen resolution for Radeon HD 6650M

2011-08-08 Thread madbiologist
Support for the Radeon HD 6000 series of cards was only added in the
2.6.38 kernel. I'm surprised that it works at all.

Please attach the output of lspci -vvnn

Does this still occur on Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal"? What about on
Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" alpha 3?

[Bug 822753] [NEW] Please remove netbeans package from Ubuntu Oneiric universe repo

2011-08-08 Thread Yulia Novozhilova
Public bug reported:

Could you please remove both source netbeans package and all binary packages
from Ubuntu Oneiric universe repository.
The current version of NetBeans IDE in the packages is out of date and there is
no enough resources to support and update the packages. So it makes using
NetBeans IDE buggy and unreliable. The users are strongly recommended to
download latest NetBeans versions from netbeans.org.

** Affects: netbeans (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Changed in: netbeans (Ubuntu)
Milestone: None => ubuntu-11.10
