[Bug 793592] Re: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888, Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2011-09-04 Thread David Henningsson
One way to check it would be
1) Install latest known working distro (10.10)
2) Ensure it's working
3) Upgrade alsa driver through
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules
4) Reboot
If HDMI stops working now, the problem is on the audio driver side and an
AlsaInfo from before and after to compare would be interesting.

[Bug 803858] Re: No language chooser on login screen in LightDM

2011-09-04 Thread Kevin Huang
@Gunnar, It seems the language chooser behavior is a bit strange. Below
is my test steps on Beta1.

1. At Installation, select language: Simplified Chinese, and location:
Taiwan. The assumption is many Chinese work in Taiwan , and vice versa,
who usually prefer to see Simplified Chinese UI.

2. After installation, ran update manager, then updated language pack as
usual.

3. I found the installed languages in language-selector was Taiwanese-
Chinese-English which should be Chinese-Taiwanese-English, and the
character of folder is in Traditional Chinese which should be in
Simplified Chinese. Please see the attachment.

[Bug 841570] [NEW] f-spot crash on re-importing from updated directory

2011-09-04 Thread B Bobo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

>From the bash command-line, I started f-spot.
>From the bash command-line, I also started gthumb showing the photos in a
>directory "Photos"

Using f-spot's Import dialog, I imported photos into f-spot from the
same directory "Photos".

>From the bash command-line while still running f-spot in the background,
I copied 14 new photos into the same directory "Photos". I confirmed the
directory was successfully updated with the 14 new photos by verifying
each photo loaded correctly into gthumb.

Using f-spot's Import dialog, I re-imported photos into f-spot from the
same directory "Photos".

The 14 new photos in the directory appeared in f-spot, but f-spot
crashed, giving lots of warning messages like

$ f-spot --version
f-spot 0.8.0

$ f-spot &

[Bug 838256] Re: Update 'user-desktop.svg' with new version for Alt-Tab Show Desktop switcher

2011-09-04 Thread Daniel Fore
I would strongly advise against using actual blur in the icon. It
usually doesn't have good results rendering real-world. In-fact, I've
noticed there's a tendency in GNOME to just not render any object that
is using any significant amount of blur.

[Bug 839585] Re: unity-2d-panel crashes on startup on Oneiric Beta (with or without updates)

2011-09-04 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Thanks for reporting this bug. Do you happen to have the stack trace of the
crash available?
I suspect that this bug is a duplicate of bug 805587, and closely related to
759803. Is if possible for you to change the bit depth of the display, and
trying for instance 16 or 32 (not 24)?
Or can you try to use the vga or vmvga video cards?

[Bug 841566] [NEW] Can not open Ubuntu One address book: "book backend is opening"

2011-09-04 Thread Séverin Lemaignan
Public bug reported:

Thunderbird displayed the following message whenever I interact with my
email for something like 5 minutes:

There was a problem opening the address book "Ubuntu One" - the message
returned was: Cannot open book: Cannot process, book backend is opening"

I guess that after the 5 min, the "backend" eventually opened...

This bug is similar but probably different from #825280

[Bug 841561] [NEW] Launcher too slow to appear when mouse near left edge

2011-09-04 Thread Séverin Lemaignan
Public bug reported:

On my machine, the launcher takes roughly 700ms to appear when the mouse
is on the left edge, which is really slow.

The launcher should appear faster, maybe taking into account the speed
of the mouse cursor when moving towards the edge.

Reproductible: always

[Bug 840679] Re: conflicting types in GLES2/gl2.h and GL/glext.h

2011-09-04 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Oh, hah!

It's not directly a Qt problem. However, switching the Qt backend from
desktop GL to GL ES in 4:4.7.3-4ubuntu1 is an ABI break, and since it's
exposed in the Qt headers it's an API break, too.

I'm not sure how the Qt maintainers want to deal with this, but I don't
think there's anything to be done on the mesa side.

[Bug 840679] Re: conflicting types in GLES2/gl2.h and GL/glext.h

2011-09-04 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I'm a bit surprised that Qt includes both GL/gl.h and GLES2/gl2.h in the
same file. I wouldn't expect that to work; there's a large overlap in
symbols.

This clearly isn't built in the desktop Qt builds as there isn't
anything ARM specific there. I think this is actually a Qt bug, either
in the packaging or the code.

[Bug 840867] Re: flashplugin-installer : Depends: flashplugin-downloader

2011-09-04 Thread Sean Fitzpatrick
Well, as a 'workaround' there is always the native 64-bit flash player,
which is now in beta. There is the sevenmachines ppa, or the flash-aid
plugin for firefox. (I only recently heard about flash-aid, which does
some sort of optimisation that has some embedded videos working that
didn't work before - certain news sites with their own video players
don't seem to work right with the 64-bit plugin otherwise. So in other
words, it seems pretty good!)

[Bug 838322] Re: DigiNotar patch erroneously blocks one of the two Staat der Nederlanden roots

2011-09-04 Thread Glen Turner
http://blog.mozilla.com/security/2011/09/02/diginotar-removal-follow-up/
says
"DigiNotar issues certificates as part of the Dutch government’s PKIoverheid
(PKIgovernment) program. These certificates are issued from a different
DigiNotar-controlled intermediate, and chain up to the Dutch government CA
(Staat der Nederlanden). The Dutch government’s Computer Emergency Response
Team (GovCERT) indicated that these certificates are issued independently of
DigiNotar’s other processes and that, in their assessment, these had not been
compromised. The Dutch government therefore requested that we exempt these
certificates from the removal of trust, which we agreed to do in our initial
security update early this week.

The Dutch government has since audited DigiNotar’s performance and
rescinded this assessment. We are now removing the exemption for these
certificates, meaning that all DigiNotar certificates will be untrusted
by Mozilla products."

[Bug 602744] Re: LTSP client can not run local apps after server is shutdown before client logs out when /tmp is not cleared on next boot.

2011-09-04 Thread Frederick J. Henderson
Just wondering if this has been fixed or if no one else has experienced
it that it has not been changed in priority. Would be nice to at least
see its status changed to confirmed even if it does no get assigned to
someone to fix right away. Admittedly this would be low priority as it
should rarely occur, but it could be a frustrating experience for a LTSP
administrator that does not know about it.

[Bug 841541] [NEW] "num lock is on" warning remains even after num lock is turned off

2011-09-04 Thread Paul Collins
Public bug reported:

After fiddling with Num Lock, I noticed that the lock window claimed it
was still enabled, and yet it is not.

Sequence of events:
* Turn on Num Lock.
* Lock the screen. (On a ThinkPad, I do this by pressing Fn+F2. Whatever
option it is that means "lock the screen immediately", I have it turned on.)
* Tap a key to bring up the screen-locked/enter-password dialog.
* Observe the warning.
* Turn off Num Lock.
* Observe the warning is still there.
* Successfully unlock the screen.
* Lock the screen again.
* Observe the warning is still there.
* [Optional] Unlock the screen. File a bug against gnome-screensaver.

Not related to bug #835649, which concerns showing the warning when Num
Lock is enabled but not otherwise problematic, e.g. when using a "full-
size" (i.e. "has lots of extra keys") keyboard.

I tested it with the latest version on Oneiric and it works like
expected. The pre-edit stuff appears in the search field, so you can see
what you type.

I tested with ibus-hangul (Korean), ibus-anthy (Japanese) and
ibus-pinyin (Chinese).

The difference you described is the following: in hangul, you compose
the syllables out of letters, like you described. There is no ambiguity,
each syllable is unique. Therefor ibus submits the syllable when it's
complete. Means, either you press Space or Enter to signal that the
syllable is complete, or you start typing a new syllable, where ibus
knows that the last component you typed can't be part of the syllable
you typed before and therefore must be part of a new syllable.
In Japanese and Chinese however, things work differently. Since we type
the pronunciation and each pronunciation can map to multiple characters
(words), we need to choose which characters we want. The input engines
nowadays are smart enough to select the correct characters for whole
sentences, by context search. Therefore we type the complete sentence in
the pre-edit phase and review if the engine has chosen the correct
characters. We can go back with the arrow keys and correct any wrongly
chosen characters.
Only when we are satisfied we submit the whole string with either Enter
or Space, depending on the input method.

Hence, the scenario you described is expected. Nothing wrong with it. :)

Cheers
Arne

[Bug 777292] Re: Gedit not single instance when started from unity

2011-09-04 Thread Premasagar Rose
I agree with Matt Moen about bumping up the priority. For me, it creates
a very confusing, frustrating workflow when using Ubuntu. I use Gedit
probably more than any other application, and trying to edit files in
one place is impossible when the terminal opens files in one Gedit
instance, Nautilus opens them in another, and Startup Applications opens
them in yet another.

[Bug 838256] Re: Update 'user-desktop.svg' with new version for Alt-Tab Show Desktop switcher

2011-09-04 Thread Paul Sladen
These are the 'user-desktop.svg' icons sent over by Rosie last week.
These are the ones that were specified in the Unity Alt-tab designs and
previously mocked up (in raster form): Rosie's raw SVG files finished
with:

  1. blur added (at 50% to get closer match to 20% specified)
  2. background component added
(xlink:href="file:///usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png")
  3. cut up and saved

(Note that these were already queued for upload). Somebody with a good
visual overview of the default interface (eg. probably Otto Greenslade)
needs to review Rosie's designs here against the ones that Daniel
(Planas Armangue)'s has just done for 'user-desktop' and make a decision
about which one(s) to go with if it needs changing.
