[Bug 857326] Re: Selecting another preferred language in Lubuntu is confusing
Gunnar, thank you very much for your response. First of all, I can see that chinese is installed in Lubuntu as well as in Linux Mint Katya (See screendumps). Notice that my preferred language = ducth (nederlands) and this language is active, but is greyed out? When I start the language-selector after reboot, I get a crash (bug 859961). ll /usr/share/locale-langpack reveals that nor "deutsch" nor "chinese" is installed. After regenerating the locales, both "deutsch" and "chineses" are still in the selector (dutch is still greyed out, although it is my preferred language. I can't select it neither ... dialog doesn't respond to the selection (due to the 859961 bug?) >> After logging off, the preferred laguage wansn't changed. One has to >> reboot the system before it's getting changed >No, that's a misconception. If you change the user language from Dutch to English and log out, you end up at the login >screen. If you log in again instantly, you should see English as the display language. Actually I switched the preferred language, logged off and logged back in. Language wasn't changed. Only after reboot did the changes take place (can't test this now, because the language-selector-dialog doesn't react on a selection). When I changed the language, I pressed "apply systemwide"-button. (Maybe this option requires a reboot?) ** Attachment added: "LanguageSelectorLanguagesInstalled.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-selector/+bug/857326/+attachment/2473107/+files/LanguageSelectorLanguagesInstalled.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/857326 Title: Selecting another preferred language in Lubuntu is confusing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-selector/+bug/857326/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 861175] [NEW] krunner doesn't react on Alt-F2 anymore in oneiric beta2
Public bug reported: I just upgraded my kubuntu system from Natty to Oneiric, and now Alt-F2 doesn't open the command toolbar anymore. This is quite annoying as this is easily my most frequently used shortcut, to start a new program. Update: I just saw that now krunner processes where running on the system. After starting krunner manually from a konsole window, Alt-F2 runs again. [Bug 861171] [NEW] Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open
Public bug reported: Selecting shutdown from the greeter does nothing when multiple accounts are open. This is because the lightdm user (which the greeter runs as) does not have permission to shutdown while sessions are open. Inside a normal session this would just return you to the login screen. [Bug 856884] Re: Unity sets the wrong metacity keyboard shortcut defaults
I'm unassigning myself, in case someone is able to fix this before I get to it and figure out what's going on. ** Summary changed: - Running unity --reset breaks metacity keyboard shortcut defaults + Unity sets the wrong metacity keyboard shortcut defaults ** Description changed: + UPDATE: This affects first login of new users also. + Running unity --reset breaks Alt-F2 for the run command, Meta+D to show desktop, and Alt+F1 to show the main menu. I believe Unity itself ignores these metacity settings, but this breaks GNOME Shell & other similar sessions. See also https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/1:0.9.5.94+bzr2803-0ubuntu4 which I guess "fixed" the Ctrl-Alt-T shortcut. TEST CASE 1. cd ~/.gconf/apps 2. mv metacity metacity-old 3. unity --reset 4. Within a minute or so, a new metacity folder is created - 5. cat metacity/global_keybindings/%gconf.xml + 5. cat metacity/global_keybindings/%gconf.xml - - disabled - - -T - - - disabled - - - d - + + disabled + + + T + + + disabled + + + d + What should happen: I think unity --reset should delete these strings which will reset settings to their defaults instead of setting new, wrong settings. [Bug 578045] Re: Upgrading packaged Ubuntu application unreasonably involves upgrading entire OS
@Alexander Stability is taken into consideration (for example i doubt they will offer alpha or beta software). But the point here is to give users choice. Like in every other OS, the user is used to choosing which version he wants / needs. He/she can either stay with what he has, update to the new, or un- install and revert back just in case. Right now the LTS has software that's almost 2 years old... [Bug 810327] Re: [Fujitsu Amilo] Synaptics touchpad ceases functioning after suspend and resume
I also have a Dell Vostro V13 and am dealing with this issue. I have found a decent workaround for it though. What you want to do is make a script that will execute on resume. Have a look at folder /etc/pm/sleep.d/ - all scripts within this folder are automatically run as root-user after/before suspend or hibernate. The script needs to fit this example: #!/bin/bash case "$1" in hibernate|suspend) ACTION BEFORE SUSPEND/HIBERNATE ;; thaw|resume) ACTION AFTER RESUME ;; *) ;; esac exit $? I had already made this script as ps.sh: #!/bin/bash rmmod psmouse modprobe psmouse So, I just tossed the two together and this is how it works: sudo touch /etc/pm/sleep.de/99-touchpad-restart.sh sudo chmod +x /etc/pm/sleep.de/99-touchpad-restart.sh sudo nano /etc/pm/sleep.de/99-touchpad-restart.sh #!/bin/bash case "$1" in thaw|resume) /home/darkwingduck/ps.sh>/dev/null ;; *) ;; esac exit $? Works like a charm. It's desirable especially on ARM architecture for performance reasons. We just need to install the package to make any software using it. Unfortunately, there's no plan to merge back with libjpeg in a near future... With regard to bugs, we volunteer to do the job. I prepared an ITP for Debian as well, making it easier to update in the future. The package will be treated like any other: if it isn't maintained properly, it will be removed. [Bug 851691] Re: [FFE] Add support for U1 in the music lens
I tried this with the current PPA packages. Search results were indeed retrieved rather quickly. However, when clicking on a result, banshee opens, hangs for some 15 seconds with a blank window, and then puts you into the "music collection" folder, not into the web shop. When I then click on "ubuntu one store", I get a window "create an ubuntu one account" for about one second, then it goes away again (crash?), and nothing further happens. [Bug 849337] Re: FFe: include libjpeg-turbo, a derivative of libjpeg that uses SIMD instructions and additional optimizations
While this was not heavily tested with the Ubuntu images, it's enabled by default at the Linaro Ubuntu images for 2 releases already, and we didn't find any major issue with it. From my point of view it's fine to have a proper security review first, but having it enabled at Firefox and Chromium by default is probably a good indication that it's not going to cause us a lot of troubles. I don't think much of this code will end up at upstream, as it was forked for quite a while already basically because upstream was dead. The reason to enable it at universe is to properly identify if it's a valid option to enable it by default later, as already done by other distros and once more users are actually using it, we can easily identify the benefits later on. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/849337 Title: FFe: include libjpeg-turbo, a derivative of libjpeg that uses SIMD instructions and additional optimizations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libjpeg-turbo/+bug/849337/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 861143] [NEW] unity 3d firefox window borders disappear
Public bug reported: I recently upgraded to Oneiric Ocelot beta1. By default, I logged in to unity 3d interface. I use firefox version 8 (aurora). * I have two windows of firefox running (with around 190 tabs). * When I maximize or un-maximize my firefox windows, the window title bar disappears on one of the windows. * So, I have to use keyboard short cuts for minimize or maximize operations Also, I noticed that when this problem happens, my task switcher (alt- tab) works weirdly. If I go to firefox, evolution etc. on the task switcher, the window of that app does not come up. It remains in a minimized state on the side bar. The only way to recover from this problem is to quit/kill firefox and restart again, but the problem appears in a short while. Alternately, I have switched to Unity 2d and the problem is gone. This problem is not seen in chrome for eg. I saw some similar behaviour with evolution and other apps but I am not sure of what the exact behaviour was. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu oneiric (development branch) Release:11.10 $ apt-cache policy unity unity: Installed: 4.18.0-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 4.18.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 4.18.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy firefox firefox: Installed: 8.0~a2~hg20110923r75864-0ubuntu1~umd4 Candidate: 8.0~a2~hg20110923r75864-0ubuntu1~umd4 Version table: *** 8.0~a2~hg20110923r75864-0ubuntu1~umd4 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/firefox-aurora/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 7.0+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861143 Title: unity 3d firefox window borders disappear To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/861143/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When I select Greek locale in Ubiquity, I do get the keyboard icon in my default desktop view. And IMHO that new keyboard icon which wasn't there on previous versions is just consuming vital panel space which is where applications main menus are displayed.
