[Bug 848072] Re: [oneiric] net-installer dhcp client fails with a DHCPDECLINE

2011-10-27 Thread Jason Sharp
I'm still seeing a problem doing DNS look up even after this seems to be
'fixed'

If, when trying to download a kickstart config by DNS, it immediately
fails. I can see it go through the process of getting an IP, then it
attempts to get another IP again. I know if i swap to a different tty
and run udhcp everything comes back to life, but by then its too late

Can you walk me through the steps to see if this is actually my issue or
if i've uncovered another bug some where?

[Bug 881999] Re: USB flash drives not recognised

2011-10-27 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test
the latest kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by
clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom
of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 881792] Re: System will not power down after shutdown

2011-10-27 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream
Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to
the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if
you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That
will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

The bugzilla.kernel.org may still be unavailable due to the recent

subsystem maintainer or to the Linux Kernel Mailing List - linux-

[Bug 882155] Re: NFS-COMMON is not upgraded when upgrade to oneric

2011-10-27 Thread Steve Langasek
This log shows the same issue as before release, with nfs-common being
held back in order to avoid removing portmap in favor of rpcbind. We
addressed this by raising the archive priority of rpcbind, but that
doesn't seem to have solved the problem for everyone.

Michael, can you think of anything else we should do here to get a clean
upgrade? rpcbind already Conflicts/Provides/Replaces portmap. Do we
need to add a dummy 'portmap' transitional package (with a lower archive
priority) to help this along?

[Bug 881079] Re: "Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration" at startup

2011-10-27 Thread Steve Langasek
Jeff, there are different reasons why this message can appear. In your
case, it may really be caused by a delay in bringing up the network.
The purpose of the upstart SRU is to make sure the message only appears
when it should, which is why I've asked Marius to test - since we've
already determined that the message is wrong in your case.

If you've tested with upstart 1.3-0ubuntu11 and still see the message at
startup, you can file a new bug report and attach your
/etc/network/interfaces file.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 823726 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823726

line 37 should be: apport.hookutils.attach_gconf(report, 'banshee')

however, after change that line now apport told me another issue:

I have commented the next line and everything seems to go well

[Bug 856253] Re: CD/DVD drive not detected on Lenovo3000-N200 with ACPI enabled

2011-10-27 Thread Seth Forshee
I found an older report of this issue (bug #198319) that indicates that
this problem is somehow related to grub (switching from lilo to grub
caused the problem to appear, switching back made it go away) and that
when grub was installed in a dual-boot scenario the drive stops working
under Windows as well. This may explain why the old kernels aren't
working now but were before.

Also noted there is that if you disable the drive in your bios settings,
the drive starts working again. Can you verify this?

The updated package version is 1.3-0ubuntu11. Were you using this version,
or 1.3-0ubuntu10 like you mentioned? The problem is expected to still be
seen with 1.3-0ubuntu10.

To get 1.3-0ubuntu11, you need to follow the steps described in the wiki
page linked from Chris Halse Rogers' message.

upload the ~/.config/banshee-1/log file. It should show what Banshee is doing

[Bug 879110] Re: Menu auto-hide should be disabled

2011-10-27 Thread Chris
Although I agree with this premise, this is not in fact a Paper Cut - "A
new feature is not a paper cut, a paper cut is a problem with an
existing piece of functionality, not a new piece of functionality".
Since this is a new feature, it cannot be considered a Paper Cut,
instead a bad design choice which has yet to be justified by anyone who
made it. It is, however, very simple to rectify.

[Bug 882605] [NEW] After resume, the screen is not redrawn until the password is typed in.

2011-10-27 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

I'm using a Dell D830 with Nvidia graphics. It is like the lock screen
doesn't get displayed. It is usually a solid black (sometimes light
green), with the mouse cursor able to move, but nothing else. The lock
screen works if invoked without suspending. I'm using the ambiance
theme with unity.

[Bug 677280] Re: gconf wallpaper "picture_opacity" setting has no effect

2011-10-27 Thread Haitao Li
The only reference of the "picture_opacity" gconf key is removed by
below commit from Nautilus. Maybe this is not a bug (or feature request)
of Nautilus.

commit 66cd22c908cc73954fad3e261d28ae6a05ea1bc2
Author: Cosimo Cecchi
Date: Sat Oct 9 15:39:14 2010 +0200

background: refactor code into NautilusDesktopBackground

Remove the DirectoryBackground->EelBackground->GnomeBG abstraction and
add a new object, NautilusDesktopBackground, which is a thin wrapper
around GnomeBG, which takes care of handling background changes.

It is a LibreOffice problem which affects the whole desktop session: as a
result of the crash in Writer, the system stops and restarts.

The problem is specificallly related to LibreOffice Writer. I do not
experience it in any other application.
If you want me to provide more specific info, I am happy to do so. But I
need to know which kind of info I need to provide how.
Respectfully yours,

Bug #778757 is a separate issue, and developers are working on it. As
soon as a fix is available, we'll get it proposed for SRU as well.

[Bug 882579] Re: Some Commands return: "Timed out during operation: cannot acquire state change lock"

2011-10-27 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for filing this new bug.

(I think it is in fact a dup of bug 734777, but it's not certain)

I'm afraid I'll simply have to try to reproduce this on a maverick
system and debug with gdb, as per the linked redhat bug, upstream is not
sure what fixed the problem between 0.8.8 and 0.9.0.

If it is feasible for you to upgrade to oneiric, the newer version of
libvirt there should bypass this problem, however that certainly is not
a satisfactory solution, especially as this appears to be hitting
multiple users.

[Bug 746343] Re: rdesktop window gets a -?- icon in natty launcher

2011-10-27 Thread Daniel Lovejoy
I have had this issue as well from the time unity came out and have
found nothing specifically say how to work around the issue, just "you
need a custom .desktop file located in ~/.local/share/applications/ or
/usr/share/applications".

A bit of research on .desktop files and a bit of comparing existing
.desktop files I found that adding the lines...

StartupNotify=false
StartupWMClass=rdesktop

It appears as if the StartupNotify flags are not sent in the rdesktop
program so Unity can not properly handle icon assignment and mapping the
running program to the Unity launcher. Using StartupWMClass=rdesktop in
the .desktop launcher tells unity to expect a window with the given
string as its WM class or WM name hint this allows Unity to handle the
as expected.

I have my custom launcher located in ~/.local/share/applications/ for
simplicity and it works fine when dragged to unity.

I also had the same issue with VirtualBox as well but the same work
around allowed it to work as expected.
