[Bug 882488] [NEW] Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric gnome-alsamixer segmentation error

2011-10-27 Thread Christophe Van Reusel
Public bug reported:

Hello System 11.10 x86_64 . Processor amd 64 X2, When starting gnome
alsamixer it's stops on segfault. Some other person had the same and did
bachtrace with gdb That what this person posted

this is what I get in my gdb traceback:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
_gtk_accel_map_add_group (
accel_path=0x61e55e "/MainActions/FileMenu", accel_group=0x62f940)

 in /build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.24.6/gtk/gtkaccelmap.c

I added as attachement the console output (obatained with script -af)
When I try to start gnome-alsamixer

Problem seems to be on debian systems as well.

it happens to all gnome3 systems. It does occur in ubuntu using gnome-
shell but also when using unity.

This is very critical bug, As gnome-alsamixer is the only remaining
possibility to adjust audio cards input channels. Basic volumecontrol
with pulse does not handle the input channels. Alsamixergui does not
work anymore (only two channels)

The terminal alsamixer does work. But is very unpractical in use. Maybe
good for a test but that's it.

[Bug 851313] Re: Dash Minimize / Maximize / Close buttons are not very pretty

2011-10-27 Thread tabbernuk
I'd argue for removing of these buttons, because Dash in technically not
a window, but a dock or toolbar or something in this vein. It's also
problematic, because when user opens Dash, the buttons to close/maximize
Dash appear exactly at the same place where were the window buttons (if
a window was open). It gives us two levels of window buttons (and Dash
is partly transparent, if you remember) and is confusing. For
consistency reasons, there shouldn't be window buttons on Dash.

Re: [Bug 873656] Re: usb-port don't works (don't see the 3g modem and usbdisk) Lenovo x100e

2011-10-27 Thread Ming Lei
Hi Yavorovskiy Vladimir,

Now I can find the issue from dmesg[1] in your CurrentDmesg.txt.

It is probably caused by power over-consumption of your 3g modem
and usb disk. The two devices are different interfaces inside a same usb
configuration.

If the modem and usb disk have their own power supply, please try to
plug the power supply to see if there is still the issue.

If the power supply still don't help the issue, please first enable usbmon[2] to
start tracing the traffic, then plug your 3g modem plus usb disk. Finally, post
the usbmon result to us.

[Bug 876816] Re: Shotwell deletes edited photos after upgrading to oneiric 11.10

2011-10-27 Thread dasistwas
Hi Clint,

thanks for the response. Actually the upgrade process did not delete the image.
Also the images edited with an external editor (GIMP) were deleted. These
images are stored with following name (german language): original.jpg becomes
original_verändert.jpg in natty and in oneiric naming convention changed.
edited photos are now saved as original_shotwell_verändert.jpg. So could be
that changing the naming convention causes the edited photos to be deleted. But
also the photos edited in shotwell (which are actually not saved as separate
files) are reversed to the original version.
My images are stored on a ntfs drive due to compatibility reasons with other
operating systems. I will try to reproduce this, but meanwhile many of the
natty-edited images are deleted and I do not know if I will find some none
deleted files. I will send you the db file shortly.

[Bug 875705] Re: dh_make in Oneiric outputs wrong content to changelog

2011-10-27 Thread Chris
I've installed lightdm and verified that $LOGNAME is no longer
and contains the username as expected. This fixes the problem I
originally logged as Bug #864109 in Oneiric beta 2

I can't verify that the problem with dh-make is fixed as I'm not
involved in repackaging.

Good work.

[Bug 769277] Re: Eclipse shows overlay scrollbar but when i hover there is no scroll handles

2011-10-27 Thread Axel Pospischil
I like to mention something:

Eclipse is such an important tool for software development.
AND: it is also a platform for creating rich client apps.
You won't even be able to know every app which uses eclipse as basis and
therefore is affected by this bug. So I think this should be solved within the
eclipse community that is responible for the GTK-bindings of the eclipse
SWT-based GUI framework.

I am developing java applications with e.g. spring source tools suite,
that probably will never be part of any linux distribution and therefore
ever will be affected by this bug ;)

I am starting eclipse / sts with a wrapper like this:

#!/bin/sh
cd /local/share/springsource/sts-2.7.1.RELEASE/
export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true
export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0
export LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0
./STS

I HAVE to use "export" .

#41 helped me with the scrollbar problem

[Bug 760131] Re: Power consumption raised significantly in natty

2011-10-27 Thread piccobello
@Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote on 2011-10-25:#229

thanks a lot, however I did test the new kernel from natty-proposed, it does
not solve the problem for me.
It does marginally improve over 2.6.38-11.50, but it is still a major
regression compared
to 2.6.35-28.50. For me the problem is not only reduced battery life, but also
increased
cpu temperature (easily above 70C) which makes it difficult to work, and of
course is
not good for the cpu. I'm now running some extensive tests with powertop,
discharging
the battery completely, which will take some time, I'll post the results here
asap.

[Bug 876665] Re: Unable to find running Apps during Switching Tabs in ubuntu 64 bit

2011-10-27 Thread pavan
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 needs-reassignment oneiric
regression-update running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

I have recently upgraded to 11.10 version (64 bit). The most common
problem i am facing is unable to find my running apps during alt+tab
  combination.

steps that i use to reproduce it:

  1. open skype and login.
  2. open some other apps like gchrome firefox etc..
  3. be on chrome and use alt+tab to switch to skype .
  Expected:
skype should be shown and shud be navigatable to that app.

  actual:
Skype is not shown on the list. if i minimize chrome manually then i can see
skype. If i use the left navigation bar where skype is shown, and hit the skype
icon it opens a fresh instance of skype instead of showing the logged in
instance. and say if i log in skype says already instance is running. The same
is the problems with spreadsheet applications.

[Bug 862134] Re: Upgrade to oneiric wiped my resolv.conf for static interface

2011-10-27 Thread Serge Hartmann
I upgraded to network-manager 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu5.
The fix works for me : my original resolv.conf file is kept after reboot.
I removed resolvconf packages which is useless in this case and didn't solve.
Thanks a lot for Mathieu and Martin.

Public bug reported:

There is an inconsistency that I cannot move maximized window to another
workspace using window controls/window menu, because window menu is not
available in maximized state.

By now I do, 1) restore window, 2) move to workspace n, 3) maximize
window. This is not right at all.

[Bug 576980] Re: jruby ships prebuilt jar files in the orig tarball

2011-10-27 Thread James Page
This issue is resolved in 1.5.6-2 which has now synced from Debian.

It currently fails to build from source because one of its dependencies
(yecht) is also FTBFS as it can't find jruby (in multiverse).

So its a bit circular.

Approaches:

1) Promote current binary packaging to universe; build yecht and then build
latest version of jruby
2) Demote yecht to multiverse; build yecht then jruby; promote both to universe.

Unfortunately 1.5.6-2 also fails to build due to an invalid JAVA_HOME -
I can also fix this up once its somewhere where it can see yecht.

[Bug 828623] Re: [Regression] gnome control centre does not allow you to disable the laptop screen while leaving an external DisplayPort connected screen working

2011-10-27 Thread Karl Rosenbaum
The patch did not help. I experience the exact same behaviour.

kalle@elvira:~$ dpkg -l|grep raof
ii gnome-desktop3-data3.2.0-0ubuntu4.2~raof1
Common files for GNOME desktop apps
ii libgnome-desktop-3-2 3.2.0-0ubuntu4.2~raof1
Utility library for loading .desktop files - runtime files

The system is rebooted after installation of these packages. I tried
this both on my ubuntu installation and on a live usb stick with
persistence file, so that the installed packages would survive the
reboot. The syslog looks the same as the one in comment #28.

[Bug 882467] [NEW] Xorg freeze on Dell Latitude E6320 (intel graphics) when dockstation is used

2011-10-27 Thread Nicola
Public bug reported:

Since the last system update, X freezes systematically at boot when the
laptop is docked on the dockstation. The laptop can boot ok when not
docked. Docking it after boot and attempting to switch monitor also
results in X freezing.

The problem also occurred before the system update, but less
systematically. I.e.: system booted ok even when docked, there were some
seldom X freezes, sometimes upon re-docking the laptop after undocking,
sometimes just during regular use.

Before the update, when docking and switching monitor, the use of the "monitor
preferences" applet often resulted in a freeze, but the use of the following
command
xrandr --output LVDS1 --off --output HDMI3 --primary --auto
was more reliable and succeeded most of the times. After the upgrade this is
not the case any more.

[Bug 872093] Re: SD Card not being recognized

2011-10-27 Thread parq
Same problem with an card reader in a pc. It worked all fine before
upgrade, and stopped working after upgrade.

The reader has an usb output that works fine, so it only affect to SD
card reader. It has other card slots such MS and CF, but I don't have
any card to test it in order to know if only affects to SD or not.

[Bug 881593] Re: Hardware temperature hazardously hot

2011-10-27 Thread Lars Noodén
I've tried the upstream kernel and the machine still runs very hot.

$ uname -a
Linux xubuntu 3.1.0-999-generic #201110270406 SMP Thu Oct 27 08:07:41 UTC 2011
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

However, it was *very* easy to test the kernel. Kudos to whomever sets
up the .deb packages there.

the same on 10.4

also changing the shutdown, reboot (halt and poweroff) and restart
in /sbin
only works for the commandline,
not with gui (right upper corner gnome, choose shutdown),
the gui reboots instead of a shutdown

for now i manually umount before shutting down,
seems the only option without many surprises.
