[Bug 882605] [NEW] After resume, the screen is not redrawn until the password is typed in.

2011-10-27 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

I'm using a Dell D830 with Nvidia graphics. It is like the lock screen
doesn't get displayed. It is usually a solid black (sometimes light
green), with the mouse cursor able to move, but nothing else. The lock
screen works if invoked without suspending. I'm using the ambiance
theme with unity.

[Bug 879110] Re: Menu auto-hide should be disabled

2011-10-27 Thread Chris
Although I agree with this premise, this is not in fact a Paper Cut - A
new feature is not a paper cut, a paper cut is a problem with an
existing piece of functionality, not a new piece of functionality.
Since this is a new feature, it cannot be considered a Paper Cut,
instead a bad design choice which has yet to be justified by anyone who
made it. It is, however, very simple to rectify.

The updated package version is 1.3-0ubuntu11. Were you using this version,
or 1.3-0ubuntu10 like you mentioned? The problem is expected to still be
seen with 1.3-0ubuntu10.

To get 1.3-0ubuntu11, you need to follow the steps described in the wiki
page linked from Chris Halse Rogers' message.

[Bug 856253] Re: CD/DVD drive not detected on Lenovo3000-N200 with ACPI enabled

2011-10-27 Thread Seth Forshee
I found an older report of this issue (bug #198319) that indicates that
this problem is somehow related to grub (switching from lilo to grub
caused the problem to appear, switching back made it go away) and that
when grub was installed in a dual-boot scenario the drive stops working
under Windows as well. This may explain why the old kernels aren't
working now but were before.

Also noted there is that if you disable the drive in your bios settings,
the drive starts working again. Can you verify this?

[Bug 881079] Re: Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration at startup

2011-10-27 Thread Steve Langasek
Jeff, there are different reasons why this message can appear. In your
case, it may really be caused by a delay in bringing up the network.
The purpose of the upstart SRU is to make sure the message only appears
when it should, which is why I've asked Marius to test - since we've
already determined that the message is wrong in your case.

If you've tested with upstart 1.3-0ubuntu11 and still see the message at
startup, you can file a new bug report and attach your
/etc/network/interfaces file.

[Bug 881593] Re: Hardware temperature hazardously hot

2011-10-27 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream
Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to
the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if
you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That
will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

The bugzilla.kernel.org may still be unavailable due to the recent
break-in. One alternative would be to report this directly to the
subsystem maintainer or to the Linux Kernel Mailing List - linux-
ker...@vger.kernel.org

[Bug 882155] Re: NFS-COMMON is not upgraded when upgrade to oneric

2011-10-27 Thread Steve Langasek
This log shows the same issue as before release, with nfs-common being
held back in order to avoid removing portmap in favor of rpcbind. We
addressed this by raising the archive priority of rpcbind, but that
doesn't seem to have solved the problem for everyone.

Michael, can you think of anything else we should do here to get a clean
upgrade? rpcbind already Conflicts/Provides/Replaces portmap. Do we
need to add a dummy 'portmap' transitional package (with a lower archive
priority) to help this along?

[Bug 881792] Re: System will not power down after shutdown

[Bug 881999] Re: USB flash drives not recognised

2011-10-27 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test
the latest kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by
clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom
of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 848072] Re: [oneiric] net-installer dhcp client fails with a DHCPDECLINE

2011-10-27 Thread Jason Sharp
I'm still seeing a problem doing DNS look up even after this seems to be
'fixed'

If, when trying to download a kickstart config by DNS, it immediately
fails. I can see it go through the process of getting an IP, then it
attempts to get another IP again. I know if i swap to a different tty
and run udhcp everything comes back to life, but by then its too late

Can you walk me through the steps to see if this is actually my issue or
if i've uncovered another bug some where?

I've added ignore_hosts setting to the new set in hopes that its
implemented but not in the gui yet. I'll find out on the next reboot I
suppose, Else I am confined to Firefox for the intranet as it allows
manual proxy setup with exclusions.

This replacement was shortsighted and not at all customer focused. So
here is a tip for you, free of charge.

If a large group of your users depend on standard ways of doing things,
PROXY SETTINGS for instance, DO NOT REPLACE THAT FUNCTIONALITY with LESS
FUNCTION.

Yes it is a duplicate. The key statement in the description is
Sensitivity seems to do little or nothing, bug #20852 says the
sensitivity has no effet whatsoever. If 20852 is fixed then this bug
will also be fixed, therefore it is the same bug. Note that a bug is an
error in the code. This bug may note additional symptoms but that does
not make it a different bug.

[Bug 882618] [NEW] some icon flies across the desktop when using LXMusic

2011-10-27 Thread Bob Bib
Public bug reported:

lxmusic 0.4.4+git20100802-2.1
Ubuntu 11.10 (amd64)
GNOME 3 fallback (classic) mode

I launch LXMusic, drag-and-drop some music files into it and start
playback; some minutes later, from time to time I notice some file icon
appear flying across the desktop and then disappearing; it looks like a
some strange trail of drag and drop.

[Bug 882624] [NEW] Adding files to project corrupts other projects filelist

2011-10-27 Thread ejoerns
Public bug reported:

When I try to add a file to a project (multiply projects opened) the file is
added correctly but the others project file tree (only 'images' and
'projectfile' as i can see so far) shows doulbed entries that actually belong
to the first project.
If I add another file, the list is doubled again.
The result can be seen in the attached image. There i added the files
'glossary.tex' and 'preamble.tex' to the project 'BA thesis'. The 'image' list
of 'tubsdocguide' shows lots of multiple-existent files that are originate from
'BA thesis'.
After closing and reopening both projects, everything is fine and added
correctly.

[Bug 868346] Re: Language selector broken in Ubuntu

2011-10-27 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I tested this in an updated VM:
- Added the PPA
- INstalled the lightdm-gtk-greeter package
- Applied updates
- Enabled the language selector in the configuration file (set
show-language-selector=true in /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf)

I still don't see the language selector in the login screen. I am not
sure lightdm-gtk-greeter installation was enough to switch to it, am I
missing something ?

[Bug 879793] Re: No GTK theme applied on login, should be Ambiance

I just found this bug report after experiencing the same problem in 11.04
Seeing that gnome-settings-daemon throws an error I tried killall
gnome-settings-daemon and after a short pause, my expected theme reappeared. I
didn't even have to log out.
Maybe this will help others until a fix is found.

[Bug 882628] [NEW] Processor Useage is very high and systm get stuck in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-10-27 Thread nithin_aneesh
Public bug reported:

My processor usage remains very high (~100 %) almost all the time in
Ubuntu 11.10. I was using 11.04 earlier and updated to 11.10. Due to
this condition I formatted the root partition and installed Ubuntu 11.10
freshly (my home folder is in different partition and it was untouched).
I have startup programs but I have been using them in earlier versions
without any problem. I tried changing to Unity 2D, Gnome, Gnome (No
effect), Lubuntu but the processor usage is very high. Its not a
hardware problem as everything is fine in Windows 7. Everything was
working fine till Ubuntu 11.04. Please tell me the solution for this
problem. I don't want to go back to previous versions also.

My hardware details are:

[Bug 882340] Re: Invalid physical address encountered during vmcore_init.

2011-10-27 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test
the latest kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by
clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom
of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.
