[Bug 754569] Re: Empathy does not support Google Application- Specific Passwords

2012-02-29 Thread Riccardo Murri
The workaround suggested by Patrick Dessalle on 2011-07-07 worked for me
as well.

Inspecting the saved passwords with Seahorse, I found out that the
*account name, not the password* had been saved as "IM account password
for jabber". No wonder it could not authenticate.

After deleting it, the correct "application password" is saved.

Installed software:

ii empathy 3.2.0.1-0ubuntu1.1 GNOME multi-protocol chat and
call client
ii empathy-common 3.2.0.1-0ubuntu1.1 GNOME multi-protocol chat and

[Bug 943820] [NEW] Emacs and HUD bindings clash

2012-02-29 Thread si14
Public bug reported:

After recent update I've found that HUD uses Alt-X and Alt-W as
keybindings and appears when one presses any of them. This shortcuts are
very common for Emacs (it's de-facto standard for "show available
commands" and "copy", respectively) and HUD's activation makes Emacs
nearly unusable. Emacs has a very broad usage, so I think it's a serious
usability issue.

[Bug 635101] Re: Broken apt cache error message is out of date

2012-02-29 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
I have got a bad feeling about using the authentication dialog as a
confirmation dialog. If the system is configured to allow all package
operations to an user automatically you won't get any confirmation at
all. The operation would just start.

The broken cache is really a nasty problem that needs to be fixed before
you can continue installing/removing any other software. So a small icon
is not very discoverable. Why don't you show an in-app-notifcation below
the toolbar with a small text and a button "Repair system".

Not sure why fonts set don't work for 'everything' though.

Is it possible to see how this functions with a previous release, just
in case its a H/W fault and not a regression with the latest kernel.

Thanks, Colin

[Bug 943765] Re: wine1.3_1.4~rc5-0ubuntu1~ppa1~oneiric1_amd64.deb installs 32bit wine binary

2012-02-29 Thread Scott Ritchie
Micah described the way it works in 12.04

On 11.10 and earlier, the "amd64" packages are indeed actually 32 bit,
as multiarch was not ready (for Wine) then and 32 bit Wine is far more
useful than 64 bit-only Wine.

[Bug 568720] Re: Error scanning for fd0 on boot

2012-02-29 Thread Jason
Have the same issue here. In my case though, it's not a floppy drive,
it's my USB multi-card reader, which doesn't have any cards in it
actually. I guess my BIOS is emulating those card slots as floppy
drives, yet I don't see a way to disable it. I would really like to
force GRUB or LVM to ignore any such devices. Waiting an extra 10
seconds is not fun.

[Bug 943805] [NEW] Wired network shows disconnected but networking works.

2012-02-29 Thread TyBauz
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04 - When I boot up I get a "connection established" message
for my wired network. I can browse the web, etc and everything works
fine. The problem is that when I clieck on the network manager it shows
"Wired Network disconnected" and will not let me connect to my VPN until
I disable networking then re-enable it.

I can reproduce it with continuous unplugging/plugging usb disk after starting
the below script. And looks the upstream patch can fix the issue
on my pandaboard.

#!/bin/sh
umount /media/*
while [ 1 ]
do
fdisk -l /dev/sdb # suppose /dev/sdb is the usb disk
sleep 0.05

[Bug 921944] Re: [precise] linux kernel: bad: scheduling from the idle thread!

2012-02-29 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 942784] Re: Unable to get Wifi nor Wired network connection

2012-02-29 Thread Jeff Lynn
I borrowed a DL N300 Wireless N adapter from a friend. Plugged it in,
Ubuntu 11.10 in my Asus UX31-DH72 recognized it and connected to my wifi
router right away. Using that, I was able to update the newly installed
ubuntu. As soon as the update completed and asked me to restart. I
did, and to my surprise, it now sees two wifi connections. I plugged in
my ethernet cable to the USB-Ethernet adapter, and that works too.
S I am hapy! Thanks you you all the Ubuntu developers. Your
are great.

Now what may be left is for me to find out how to get suspend/resume
working.

Anyway, I highly recommend the Asus UX31-DH72. I installed Ubuntu as
dual boot, and installed Apache 2.2 and MySQL on both system. Now
Windows booted up in a mere 14 seconds, resume in 4 vs the 8 seconds
cold boot with the bare bone Windows 7 that came with the machine. For
Ubuntu, it comes up about 8 seconds, even with Apache 2.2 and MySql
running.

The machine is very light. less than 3 pound. The only thing that is missing
is DVD, but I always make ISO file out of CD/DVD and run it with VirtualClone
anyway, hence no need for CD/DVD tray.

Wish I could help more, but I already upgraded to 12.04. Maybe you can
build packages for Precise?

[Bug 921944] Re: [precise] linux kernel: bad: scheduling from the idle thread!

2012-02-29 Thread Ming Lei
The issue does exist on 3.2.0-15-generic.

After uninstalling powernap package, the issue doesn't happen any more, so looks
it is caused by powernap stopping and starting cpu frequently.

If I connects my T410 with not very good signal wifi, the problem can be
triggered very easily.

It should open the file menu (I believe).

I think the expected behaviour is that if you hold alt and tap F10 the
menu should open straight away, not wait for the alt release.

[Bug 942316] Re: Installing on Hyper-V doesn't launch

2012-02-29 Thread Mike Sterling
I did some further investigation into this. I downloaded the alternate
ISO and it stopped at the "Detect and mount CD-ROM" step. I flipped to
Alt-F2 and ran dmesg, comparing it against the precise-server ISO from
the same date.

The server build successfully loaded the ISO 9660 extensions, but the
alternate build had no such line.

[Bug 943191] Re: gnome-system-monitor will not starting

2012-02-29 Thread Vadim Rutkovsky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 943795] [NEW] WISHLIST add system-monitor to ctrl alt delete

2012-02-29 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

It would be nice to see a link to the System Monitor added to the menu
that pops up when you press ctrl-alt-delete. Right now a logout menu
appears, it would be nice if perhaps instead of solely a logout option
appearing, we could get a 'more' functional menu incorporating things
like "logout" "lockscreen" and, most importantly, "System Monitor".

As the System Monitor is SUCH a usefully little application that is very
very similar to the Windows "Task Manager", it would be nice to see it
better acknowledged in the interface. Many people will probably not know
that it is even present, and for potential Windows converts (which is
most people) it will just be another added level of comfort knowing that
they can use a familiar ctrl-alt-delete to get to a VERY familiar System
Monitor/Task Manager.

Just my two cents, but I don't think it could hurt, and I believe that
it could only help.

[Bug 943793] Re: ufw by default blocks all of IPv6

2012-02-29 Thread Darxus
Looks like this was fixed in version 0.30.1-2:

ufw (0.30.1-2) unstable; urgency=low
  * enable IPv6 by default and fix 'allow to any ipv6' when IPv6 is enabled.

[Bug 268734] Re: immediate shutdown after pressing shutdown button

2012-02-29 Thread Aaron Brubacher
When I press the power button or click shutdown in the user menu in
Gnome 3, the dialog box pops up for a fraction of a second before the
computer shuts down. At first it says something like "Waiting for apps
to quit" and then "Powering off the system"

Is this the same bug, or should I file a new bug report?

Also, when I click logoff from the user menu in Gnome 3, the
confirmation dialog box pops up ("Aaron Brubacher will be logged out
automatically in 60 seconds") for a fraction of a second, and then the
computer proceeds to logoff. Presumable they are related...

[Bug 933289] Re: bad flickering with Radeon drivers in 12.04 Precise

2012-02-29 Thread Britt Yazel
This is not necessarilly a regression, as I have yet to know an
experience in Ubuntu with the open sourced Radeon drivers without a fair
amount of flicker. (There has been flicker since 10.10 when I first
started using AMD graphics on my laptop and desktop). The bug that was
filed said "fixed flicker using the radeon driver with Compiz" or
something to that extent, but I do not know of the specifics of the
package that carried the patch. (possibly a compiz patch or a Unity
patch, I read a lot of changelogs and it has slipped my mind).

I tried searching for the updates that I installed on the 16th of
Feburary, and I installed full updates to my compiz and my unity both on
the same day, so it is most likely in the changelogs for one of those
projects.

In Arch linux I was running the 1.11 version of X.org, Mesa 7.11, and I
was running the linux kernel 3.2.0 (or some variation of that version);
as arch updates so readily it is hard to know exactly which version of
the kernel it was, but all times I have ran arch with open sourced
Radeon drivers it has been a flawless and seamless experience. Is there
any way to get any of the Ubuntu devs to try out Arch on a system with
Radeon graphics to see what they are doing and possibly merge any
patches they have made into mainline Ubuntu?

Yes I have tried installing fglrx, that is what I am currently running
as to avoid the screen flicker. I do not see any flickering behavior
with fglrx, but the desktop itself is noticably slower when dragging
windows and interacting with the desktop. (On a side note I have noticed
that Precise still is using an old version of fglrx from a couple months
ago which does not contain a lot of the fixes that AMD released for
Gnome-shell integration. Is this going to be changed at all? I would
like to see a more up-to-date video driver for some of the fixes.) Also,
when running the fglrx driver in the system settings>details it
registers as a VESA driver, when it is clearly the fglrx driver that is
activatedbut that is a different issue ;-)

I do believe that it could be a x.org/mesa/kernel driver issue, and I have seen
similar flickering issues in an out-of-the-box install of Fedora 16, but in
subsequent updates it seemed to have cleared up. And, like I have mentioned
before, Arch linux has a absolutely fabulously working version of the FOSS
Radeon stack.

I would love to render any assistance that I can towards fixing this issue, but
my knowledge of programing is slim at best. I am a work-in-progress when trying
to learn more about patches and the bug fixing process, so I may or may not be
able to help.
I am mostly just reporting what I have seen with my various dabbles with other
linux based operating systems, and how Ubuntu differs in my experience with
them.
