[Bug 960092] Re: Latest update renders system unbootable error: no such partition
OK, so I'm afraid your GRUB installation was simply misconfigured. It was set up to upgrade the boot loader on /dev/sda every time you upgraded, but according to your comment on IRC you want it on /dev/sdb. The effect of this was that you had an old partial copy of GRUB on /dev/sdb, which eventually broke due to otherwise-innocuous changes (the ABI between a GRUB core image and GRUB modules is not fixed). You should run 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc' and make sure the disk you want to boot from is selected; I would in general recommend selecting all the non-removable disks in your system. ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/960092 Title: Latest update renders system unbootable error: no such partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/960092/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 960263] [NEW] Licence issue
Public bug reported: From grub2 1.99 source in grub2-1.99/grub-core/kern/dl.c /* Me, Vladimir Serbinenko, hereby I add this module check as per new GNU module policy. Note that this license check is informative only. Modules have to be licensed under GPLv3 or GPLv3+ (optionally multi-licensed under other licences as well) independently of the presence of this check and solely by linking (module loading in GRUB constitutes linking) and GRUB core being licensed under GPLv3+. Be sure to understand your license obligations. */ This indicates that *all* modules must be GPLv3 or GPLv3+ However, the code actually checks for GPLv3, GPLv3+ and GPLv2+ (this might be a separate bug report? - getting the comment consistent with the code for grub_dl_check_license) Case in point: LVM uses GPLv2 (and LGPLv2.1 for libraries) see: http://sources.redhat.com/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/LVM2/COPYING?rev=1.1content-type=text/x-cvsweb-markupcvsroot=lvm2 Seems like the conclusion that 'module loading in GRUB constitutes linking' is an issue, whether that conclusion will hold water or not is another matter. The only 'out' might be that if it is a GPL license, the clause 9 referring to any later version may apply. Anyone got a definitive answer to clarify this? ** Affects: grub (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: licence license -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/960263 Title: Licence issue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/960263/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 960262] [NEW] include an option to use aufs instead of overlayfs in lxc-start-ephemeral
Public bug reported: Because of the problems we've encountered with overlayfs over the past couple of months, and because aufs did seem to be working earlier, I'd like it if we could have an option to use aufs with lxc-start-ephemeral. Because overlayfs is the well-advertised future and aufs is the deprecated past, and because we currently have workarounds for the known overlayfs issues, I'd like overayfs to continue to be the default. If this doesn't make into Precise, it is not essential: we can always make our own version of the script later if necessary. However, this would be nice to have. [Bug 960276] [NEW] a bad AMI can hang an entire compute node
Public bug reported: Using the attached image (and others) causes the entire compute node to hang between the booting of the image and the configuration of networking. The running image has a console ring buffer output file (however problematic--often it looks like it never got a proper root filesystem somehow--lots of NO PTY errors), but is unpingable. The only way to terminate these instances is to restart nova-compute so that it will collect amqp messages again, and then send the terminate request. This seems suspiciously like the compute code is blocking in a libvirt call of some sort. The cluster used booted an older Oneiric image with no problems whatsoever. This effectively can DoS an entire openstack installation through nothing more than running instances. [Bug 952556] Re: [Precise] [Hardware-killer] HD restarts every few seconds
Hi Colin, I'll perform the checks you suggest, however I doubt the issue is caused by apps performing unwanted writes (I assume that the disk restarting every minute be related to cron activity or so...) as I feel that the issue is not with the disk restarting, but with the disk stopping much too soon (I've actually heard it spin down only some seconds after having been accessed, which is definitely unwanted). [Bug 933433] Re: Kubuntu manual install crashed during bootloader configuration on an XFS partition
I tried this with the precise-desktop ISO and the behavior is a bit different. Here's what I did, please verify that it's a useful/accurate reproduction of your issue. When I got to the erase/something else screen, I chose the latter (essentially, manual partitioning). I created a new partition table, and then an 8GB root partition on /dev/vda1, which I made an XFS file system. Then I put the remaining 500MB or so on /dev/vda2. I told the partitioner to install the boot loader on /dev/vda1. At the end of the installation, I got a popup window saying: Executing 'grub-install /dev/vda1' failed. This is a fatal error. All you can do at this point is click OK. Note that /var/log/syslog has the grub-installer warning mentioned in comment #6, but no Python traceback. I'm inclined to say that this specific bug is no longer valid, so I'm going to close it. However, if you can still reproduce it with the latest 12.04 live CD, please re-open this bug and provide addition information (e.g. recipe for reproduction, log entries, etc.). The fact that you are even given the opportunity to install grub on an unsupported file system like XFS will be fixed as part of bug 959724. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to ubiquity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933433 Title: Kubuntu manual install crashed during bootloader configuration on an XFS partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/933433/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Dnia 2012-03-20, wto o godzinie 14:59 +, Clint Byrum pisze: I think 500ms is *way* too low a threshold, and a different heuristic needs to be used to determine whether or not a user wants the HUD. I alt-tab constantly, rapidly, and the HUD comes up every time unless I hold down alt-tab long enough to see the window switcher, which feels like an eternity when it is enforced for every quick window switch. :-/ No no, it's not that we treat every alt press under 500ms as an alt tap. We only treat it as one _if_ no other key was pressed (thus, any shortcut shouldn't ever trigger the HUD).
