2012-05-27 Thread Robert Roth
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 975200] Re: software-center crashed with IOError in write(): [Errno 5] Input/output error: '/home/username/.config/software-center/softwarecenter.cfg.new'

[Bug 973014] Re: gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, (libgstvideoparsersbad.so), causes a failure to decode many common video files encoded as AVC 1 Baseline - L2.1, Baseline - L1.1 others

2012-05-27 Thread Brian Jamieson
Although moving libgstvideoparsersbad.so to a bak file restored my ability to
play a MP4 file with Totem (Movie Player), another consequence of the bug (I
think) remains.
That is, when right clicking on a MP4 file (via Nautilus) instead of a file
properties window opening up I just get a message saying Creating Properties
window. You can stop this operation by clicking cancel.
This message seaming will stay there forever so when your patiance runs out you
click cancel which makes the message go away but still no Properties dialogue
box is ever presented thereby preventing me from using the Open With tab to
to make VLC be used by default for MP4's.

[Bug 381766] Re: nbd-server no config file

2012-05-27 Thread David McNeill
The message about no config file happens because you accepted the
default of 0 number of servers to run in the ncurses dialog 'Configuring
nbd-server', hence no config file is written, since no servers were
requested.

Number of nbd-server instances to run: 0 change this to 1 for
example, and then specify the file and port.

Then you will get a config file that you can look at and modify.

If you run dpkg-reconfigure nbd-server and still specify 0 servers, you
will still get no config file.

2012-05-27 Thread Christopher Forster
Public bug reported:

Hi, Synaptic doesn't display this during Adobe Reader installation.
Installation doesn't move further. This message is not shown until I
press the Show details button.

Konfigurerar acroread-common

This will set Adobe Reader as the default PDF Viewer for the system but
will not override any per-user settings.

Set Adobe Reader as the default PDF Viewer?

[Bug 1004793] Re: deluge-console hangs/freezes when commands passed on command line

2012-05-27 Thread Cas
This is a limitation in deluge console; you cannot connect to a remote
console and pass a command. Passing multiple commands to the localhost
console works fine it is just when attempting to use connect the problem
will arise. I will create a bug ticket on our bug tracker to fix this.

I should point out that you would not use `exit` from the command line
because it will exit after the last command anyway.

[Bug 1005120] [NEW] Windows Installer and User Account

2012-05-27 Thread Graham Seed
Public bug reported:

I tried resolving this issue in post:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1986531

and re-iterated below:

I followed the installation instructions at:

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/...u-with-windows

In Step 3 it states ...To install Ubuntu, all you need to do is choose
your user name and password...

so I entered a username [not equal to Administrator as shown and set to
gmseed] and password.

However, when I complete installation and reboot the m/c I'm faced with
either logging on as Administrator or Guest Session. I found this
very confusing.

You may view this as not a bug but if a user enters a username such as
gmseed they expect it to be listed at startup. Also, it's using my
gmseed user account password as the Administrator password.

I've not continued with this issue because of another bug of the CPU fan
continually overruning, which I've also logged as a bug. Thus, I've not
had a enjoyable Ubuntu installation experience and forced to revert to
Win7.

Thanks

Graham

[Bug 352732] Re: Sound muted after boot

2012-05-27 Thread László Monda
Minor correction: In my previous comment I erroneously wrote
/etc/init/alsa-{re}store.conf instead of /etc/init/alsa-{re}store.

In the meantime I commented out the load-module module-device-restore
line in /etc/pulse/default.pa according to #77. Unlike for others it
didn't fix the issue for me.

It's also important to mention that sometimes the volume level gets
restored correctly and other times it doesn't so this issue seems too be
non-deterministic.

At this point I'm not sure what the culprit is. Given that alsactl gets
called by Upstart this seems like it's an ALSA issue but PulseAudio
related tweaks resolved this issue for some which suggests me that it
may be a PulseAudio issue.

I've just reported https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-
bug/view.php?id=5586 to the ALSA bugtracker.

[Bug 1005123] [NEW] Laptop Fan Running Continually

2012-05-27 Thread Graham Seed
Public bug reported:

Hi

I tried resolving this issue in post:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1986556

but was unsuccessful.

My post also refers to the other post:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1986593

Also, after a bit of Googling I see several people experience this
issue.

About 2 years ago when I purchaed my previous VAIO laptop I tried
installing a previous version [8-10; can't quite remmeber asa few years
ago] of Ubuntu and had the same problem and as I see it's not been
resolved 2 years later I thought I'd take the time to log it.

I view this as a critical bug as it forces me to revert to using Win7 as
I'm not going to sit using my laptop for 8 hrs/day listening to a cpu
fan overruning. I also note that Ubuntu is not as responsive as I'd
expect for an i5 processor.

Clearly, when I upgrade this laptop I'm going to have to consider using
a non-Sony laptop or Dell or spend some time doing research into laptops
supported/recommended by Ubuntu or use a desktop instead.

The laptop spec is:

Sony VAIO
VPCEC3SOE
Intel i5-460m/2.53GHz
ATI mobility radeon HD 5470

Thanks

Graham

[Bug 1005116] Re: don't know

2012-05-27 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
