[Bug 883646] Re: ERROR no room on ep ring fills up syslog and hard disk in minutes
** Tags removed: g15-tools hcd kernel needs-upstream-testing usb xhci ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream ** Description changed: I am running a fresh install of Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10 64-bit. After installing Gnome15 to use my LCD display, the occasional xhci_hcd error message turns into a waterfall of messages which filled up my '/var/log/syslog' and '/var/log/kern.log' logs up to the point where the system crashes. Within one hour these files blew up into 33GB (!) log files. The LCD is working fine and I had the problems before when I tried use the extra features of my Logitech G15 via the USB 3.0 connector on my system. The G15 is a low speed USB 2.0 device. Re: [Bug 1004570] Re: Ubuntu picks wrong monitor to use when booting
Ok I looked it up. if that is the case it not working with all the 3. kernels. 11.10, 12.04 and parted magic, might even be ubcd as well. haven't tried it., new version of gparted . For some reason the intel graphics from 2010 that came with 1st generation I3, I5, and I7 processors seem to be effected. I do not know if new generation's are effected or it's just my gateway nv7922u laptop. My laptop has a I5 M430, 4 gigs of memory, intel HD graphics version 12. I can not use parted magic 5.0 and up, blank screen, gparted 0.5.1-1 works, 0.6.4-1 blank screen. I haven't updated gparted iso very often. the 0.5.1-1 worked just fine, but I did down load the 0.6.4-1 to work in virtual box. I can't let you know, if 10.10 worked or 11.04 I never downloaded the ISO. I decided with 8.04 to just stay with the LTS version. To get the ISO to work I have to press the F4 key constantly to get the main menu, then F6 and NOAPIC, see my post on UBUNTU under DWADE I just had a problem were with windows 7 virtual in 12.04 that it locked 12.04 up. I had downloaded something, I am still searching., but it destroyed my linux swap file, and corrupted the MBR. Had to get my 500 gig orginal hard drive put in laptop I have a 640 gig installed (Oh! another problem Linux or it's Ubuntu will not recognize above a 400 gig secondary partition, had to change it 400, in stead of 500 same with a usb 750 I have) gparted said no partition, used partition commander and gave it a new MBR and found swap file gone. Repair the disk change UUID's of both 11.10 and 12.04 to new swap file. More if you need it Thanks David Walker -- From: kroq-gar78 1004...@bugs.launchpad.net Sent: Saturday, May 26, 2012 11:10 PM To: walks...@msn.com Subject: [Bug 1004570] Re: Ubuntu picks wrong monitor to use when booting Could be plymouth -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004570 Title: Ubuntu picks wrong monitor to use when booting Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: 12.04 will choose the hdmi output of th hd graphics on the gateway nv7922u laptop when booting. the installation disk does the same thing. but if you use F4 repeated on boot the installation it will bring up boot menu then choose noacpi and noappl well then boot into seeable graphics I think its kernel problem. @Alicia, your situation sounds frustrating, but please stop filing multiple bugs every day on the same issue(s). It is very difficult to follow your issues because they are so spread out. I'm converting this to a question, because I think you'll have a better chance of getting help that way. [Bug 1005160] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 hangs on shutdown
Florent Lothon, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. [Bug 998805] Re: 8086:4232 Wireless not connecting on bootup in 12.04 (Intel Wifi Link 5100)
Marking Triaged Low as mainline tested and multiple WORKAROUNDs. ** Summary changed: - Wireless not connecting on bootup in 12.04 (Intel Wifi Link 5100) + 8086:4232 Wireless not connecting on bootup in 12.04 (Intel Wifi Link 5100) ** Description changed: + Sometimes after booting Ubuntu, the wireless connection is not operational (e.g. ping in a console window shows nothing), although the network manager icons shows that connection is established. + It is more likely (almost 100%) to happen if the machine hasn't been used for several days (which suggests to me it has something to do with obtaining dhcp leases). And even with the steps below, sometimes the wifi will work from the beginning as expected. + + However, steps that increase the chances to reproduce it are: + * boot into ubuntu. + * turn off wifi with the rfkill switch + * sudo rm /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient* + * reboot the system. At the GRUB screen, turn on the rfkill switch again, so that wifi is enabled at boot time + * log into ubuntu. network manager will show a wifi connected icon (which is not the whole truth). + * open up a console window and type ping www.ubuntu.com. Nothing will be shown on the console + + Tested with linux- + image-3.4.0-030400-generic_3.4.0-030400.201205210521_amd64.deb. For now, + wifi seems to work with this kernel. + + WORKAROUND: * turn off rfkill switch. Wait until network manager popped up a message saying wifi disconnected + * turn it on again + + WORKAROUND: * boot with wifi disabled by the rfkill switch + * turn it on only *after* having logged in to your session ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic 3.2.0-24.37 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. Workaround with help from someone from my (duplicate) bug: Till Kamppeter (till-kamppeter) wrote on 2012-05-26:#1 Any form of printing from the network to a cups-pdf printer does not work as it cannot be determined into which user's ~/PDF directory the resulting PDF should get dropped. So, edit(as root) /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf and uncomment line with AnonDirName and specify your user path dir name: Eg: AnonDirName /home/daniel/PDF (don't forget to make PDF folder manually if it doesn't exist) Save and restart. Mitch Claborn, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . [Bug 1004917] [NEW] Default activity name in English, New Activity, is confusing
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The default plasma activity is called New Activity. This is confusing because it makes the cashew look like a button to be used to create a new activity rather than a way of accessing options related to the current activity (whatever it happens to be named). The purpose and functions of Activities are left for the user to discover by trial and error, and so they are not the easiest thing to get to grips with in the first place. The New Activity name can only make things worse, for example by implying that the menu items that pop up from the cashew are for creating new activities, potentially leading the user to believe that widgets and groups are both types of activity. n.b.: I apologise that I was unable to find out what the proper name is for the thing that I know only as the cashew. [Bug 1005167] [NEW] Double click on a folder in a Nautilus window is very slow
Public bug reported: Since I have changed the NVidia graphic card driver from the proprietary to the open source nouveau, I have a strange problem with the response time of Nautilus and some other applications. For instance if I double click on a folder to open it, Nautilus is very slow. I have to wait more than 10 sec to have the folder opened. However, I have found by accident that if I move the mouse pointer outside the Nautilus window, the response time is very short as normally expected. It's like if moving the mouse outside a window, it forces in some manner the refresh of the window. I know that this sound complicated, so I have recorded for you a short video (attached here), to demonstrate the issue. [Bug 995992] Re: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525
I should add that I have just tested kernel 3.2.14-030214-generic-pae and whilst the problem remained, typing into the CLI: modprobe iwl3945 Seemed to get my wireless working again from the desktop with no need for a restart. After that I tried again in kernel 3.2.0-24.39 and the switch works again there too now without any input from me. I booted up and into the desktop with the switch in the off position and when I turned it on, it automatically connected to a wireless network. I don't know whether that is to do with modprobe, or whether there has been an update or what, but the problem, for me at least, seems to be resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995992 Title: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 973014] Re: gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, (libgstvideoparsersbad.so), causes a failure to decode many common video files encoded as AVC 1 Baseline - L2.1, Baseline - L1.1 others
The best solution here was to apply the patch I attached above in #33 to the10.22.3 bad plugin source rebuild the package. Then all works fine 12.04, nothing needs to be removed. 12.10 will be getting a new plugin version, likely 10.23, whether an issue remains to be seen, the current debian 10.23 does not include this commit but then again maybe this is a ubuntu only issue (11.10 uses basically the same source as 12.04 this issue didn't exist in 11.10 Nothing more to be done here for 12.04 - The bug has been reported in general, we've figured out which plugin is involved, I reported upstream, got a commit that works ,ect. Either someone addresses this or they continue not to - otherwise if an interested party wanted to ppa a fixed plugin package they should do so as that may be they only true solution for 12.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973014 Title: gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, (libgstvideoparsersbad.so), causes a failure to decode many common video files encoded as AVC 1 Baseline - L2.1, Baseline - L1.1 others To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gstreamer/+bug/973014/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 993941] Re: [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id - fail resume from hybernate
That's exactly what I found BearT. It seems that the symptoms are the same but the error message is either different or has been removed in later kernel versions. I also tried kernel 3.2.14 and had the same problem again, it wouldn't fully wake from suspend. The only error message I found was 'Composite sync not supported' like you I found no 'invalid framebuffer id' errors anywhere, yet the problem is identical. I also have the same problem when I switch from using monitors to using the laptop screen, sometimes it works, other times it seems to get lost between the two and I have no screen on either and have to restart. It really is driving me up the wall; since updating to 12.04 I have a very unreliable machine that randomly needs restarting and coupled with the regular compiz/unity crashes is making me despair of Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993941 Title: [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id - fail resume from hybernate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/993941/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
