[Bug 1014495] [NEW] Ubuntu default theme parsing error not using units

2012-06-17 Thread Angel Guzman Maeso
Public bug reported:

Today using the following package updated:

libgtk-3-bin i386 3.5.4-0ubuntu1
libgtk-3-dev i386 3.5.4-0ubuntu1
libgail-3-0 i386 3.5.4-0ubuntu1
libgtk-3-0 i386 3.5.4-0ubuntu1
libgtk-3-common all 3.5.4-0ubuntu1
gir1.2-gtk-3.0 i386 3.5.4-0ubuntu1

I recieve this errors, for example on apport-gtk:

(apport-gtk:28561): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-
widgets.css:86:20: Not using units is deprecated. Assuming 'px'.

(apport-gtk:28561): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-
widgets.css:193:20: Not using units is deprecated. Assuming 'px'.

(apport-gtk:28561): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-
widgets.css:229:20: Not using units is deprecated. Assuming 'px'.

[..]

A error by every line without units. It seems a warning with text-shadow
property, for example:

text-shadow: 0 1 shade (@bg_color, 1.04);

Other files like gtk-widgets-backdrop.css, gnome-panel.css nautilus.css
also affected.

I am using Ambiance, but maybe Radiance needs the same fix.

/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/gtk-widgets.css
/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/gnome-panel.css
/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/gtk-widgets-backdrop.css
/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/gnome-panel.css
/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/nautilus.css

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-06-17 Thread Danny Goodall
@Steve Riley, well I'd make that 3 data points. If you look at #279 my
issue is USB-related. Although for me it seems to be Ubuntu falling out
with the USB hub in my docking station.

Out of the docking station, or with USB devices plugged into the laptop
and not the docking station, and I'm fine. With a USB device in the
docking station USB it will hang within 5 minutes 99% of the time.

This is totally reproducible, and it typically only takes 5 minutes to
see if a problem still exists so I'm a good candidate for a test-report-
fix cycle.

Worked like a charm. The standard boot entry is not needed anymore.
Then again, why did it load before the update and stopped after?

[Bug 1014492] [NEW] kipi facebook plugin use causes crash

2012-06-17 Thread Matthew Gates
Public bug reported:

Expected behavior: when using kipi facebook plugin to export photos, it works.

Observed behavior: when the "Start upload" button is clicked,
kphotoalbum crashes.

To re-produce:

- Select plugins -> export -> export to facebook
- wait for browser to be sent to auth page, copy URL
- paste the URL of the auth dialog, click OK
- Select an existing album from facebook
- click the "Start upload" button and there is an immediate crash
- Note: crash does not occur when kipi called from other app (tested with
gwenview, upload successful).

When kphotoalbum is started from a terminal, I see the following output:

kphotoalbum: Symbol `_ZTVN4KIPI15ImageInfoSharedE' has different size in shared
object, consider re-linking

[Bug 990870] Re: External USB keyboard not working in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-06-17 Thread Richard Chadwick
Fresh install using Unetbootin to put it onto usb drive. Tried to
install with updates installed and without the updates being installed
during installation. I tried three different usb ports. also the
touchpad mouse does not work. It is a synaptics ps2 port even though it
is below the keyboard. Will try a different usb drive or another imager
tomorrow, such as pendrive linux. It is parallel to my XP SP3 install.
No access to internet due to can't point. Can get to terminal though.
System is an Acer Aspire AOA150. Cheap but works. When I ran 12.04 on
the usb drive, everything ran fine, no problems.

intel: Fix segfault in glXSwapBuffers with no bound context

Calling glXSwapBuffers with no bound context causes segmentation
fault in function intelDRI2Flush. All the gl calls should be
ignored after setting the current context to null. So the contents
of framebuffer stay unchanged. But the driver should not seg fault.

[Bug 1014487] [NEW] virtualbox: Error opening file for reading

2012-06-17 Thread Paul Jackson
Public bug reported:

I have just upgraded my Kubuntu system from 11.10 to 12.04, and then
installed virtualbox. I have gotten far enough to install
Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack, so that I can use USB 2.0, and to
add myself to the vboxusers group. I have not yet started installing
Windows XP inside my new virtualbox.

I am seeing the following error on both version 4.1.12 (in the 12.04
release) and in the latest downloadable version from Oracle 4.1.16.

Everytime I start up virtualbox, I get the error:

[CODE]Error opening file for reading: Permission denied[/CODE]

Running strace on this process (well, seems I have to run it on the
shell within which I start virtualbox) I can see the following:

[CODE]
15128 open("/proc/self/auxv", O_RDONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
15128 dup(2)= 19
15128 fcntl(19, F_GETFL)= 0x8002 (flags O_RDWR|O_LARGEFILE)
15128 fstat(19, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0600, st_rdev=makedev(136, 0), ...}) = 0
15128 mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0)
= 0x7fe3d6b13000
15128 lseek(19, 0, SEEK_CUR)= -1 ESPIPE (Illegal seek)
15128 write(19, "Error opening file for reading: "..., 50) = 50
15128 close(19) = 0
[/CODE]

This error does not seem to cause a problem, and the virtualbox session
proceeds without further problems.

Looking about the web, I see that virtualbox is apparently trying to
open /proc/self/auxv in order to determine some system capabilities, and
that it is realized that this is not a reliable method -- auxv may or
may not be readable.

In my situation, auxv is reliably NOT readable .

The following shell command reliably shows the contents of what is, I
suspect, the desired auxv information:

[CODE]LD_SHOW_AUXV=1 /bin/true[/CODE]

For example on my Kubuntu 12.04 amd64 system, it shows:

[CODE]
AT_SYSINFO_EHDR: 0x7fffcd7c4000
AT_HWCAP:bfebfbff
AT_PAGESZ: 4096
AT_CLKTCK: 100
AT_PHDR: 0x400040
AT_PHENT:56
AT_PHNUM:9
AT_BASE: 0x7ffc2640c000
AT_FLAGS:0x0
AT_ENTRY:0x401134
AT_UID: 1000
AT_EUID: 1000
AT_GID: 1000
AT_EGID: 1000
AT_SECURE: 0
AT_RANDOM: 0x7fffcd772489
AT_EXECFN: /bin/true
AT_PLATFORM: x86_64
[/CODE]

The following code might provide a useful and reliable means of parsing
this auxv information:

[CODE]
#include
#include
#include

[Bug 1014481] Re: With gtk 3.5.4 all dropdown settings boxes are unusable in gtk3 apps

2012-06-17 Thread Doug McMahon
Just to note this was tested with the latest light-themes trunk where this
issue exists along with a few others like dragged files being white & some
indicator menus being white.
Mentioning because I happened to file after returning to a self modified
ambiance as seen in description which has no bearing here
(actually the self modded works almost perfectly except for this bug & white
dragged files..

[Bug 1014485] [NEW] CMI8788 worked yesterday, then Update Mgr recommended, no sound after that

2012-06-17 Thread AraiBob
Public bug reported:

My Zonar sound card has worked in 11.04, 11.10, and in 12.04 Ubuntu.
Yesterday Update Manager recommended some updates. When they completed,
after that the sound failed. I have the optical out going to a stereo
[CD].

If I could figure out what was updated, I might be able to roll back
those changes. I think I saw an update for Alsa sound, but can't be
certain.

[Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck jumping between screens

2012-06-17 Thread Alex Robinson
This just happened last night to my Lucid 64 ATI, dual monitor system
for the 1st time. And it happened again a few minutes ago.

Given that this system has been running Lucid with these two monitors
for nearly a couple years without this problem, I vote for a very, very
recent update.

Looking at Synaptic | File | History says the only suspicious looking
update (on the 13th) is a new linux image, 2.6.32-41. The rest of the
updates look like programs that would not be involved in low level
stuff.

Since this problem pretty much freezes the system, does anyone know of a
better way to recover than the big red button? (By way of ssh, that is.)

2012-06-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Satish, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be
nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the
software by following the instructions verbatim at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel . If you have done so,
please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can
add a bugwatch that will inform us about the status. Thanks in advance.

Marking Triaged Medium as mainline tested and this being a problem with
a non-essential hardware component (removable network card).

[Bug 1008100] Re: Running XBMC fullscreen with GNOME Shell causes segfault in intel_drv.so

2012-06-17 Thread Jeremy Visser
Thank you for the cross-reference. According to one of the posts in the
article you linked, the following patch from upstream Mesa solves the
problem:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=dd7220652e65a8a23e7739687f3d6a865b80

I have not had time to test this. If somebody could test the patch
against Precise's version of Mesa, we will be able to determine whether
an SRU is possible.

Did you /set resolve_prefer_ipv6 ON? And/or use the -6 switch on
/server add (or with /connect)?

 Thanks,

[Bug 940632] Re: package zoneminder 1.25.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 [ERROR 1142 (42000) at line 10: CREATE command denied

2012-06-17 Thread Vortex
In the process of fixing intermittent Network Connection problems, I
disabled "dnsmasq" (which is enabled by default in Ubuntu 12.04). This
fixed both my network connectivity problems and my zoneminder problem in
#19.

To disable dnsmasq, I used this method (found on the internet):

you need to edit /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and comment the
“dns=dnsmasq” line.

Open a terminal, and run

sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

Then, make sure that the line

dns=dnsmasq

is commented like this:

#dns=dnsmasq

Now, restart network manager with the following command, and everything
should work properly.

sudo restart network-manager

[Bug 836250] Re: [Oneiric] [Regression] Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops

2012-06-17 Thread Aravind Cadambi
Hi.
I have a Samsung laptop with Intel Centrino-N 130 wireless card. My wireless
router is a Netgear WGR614v7. It only supports b/g. So, even if I am connecting
to a 'g' network, my connection drops almost every minute and I have to disable
and enable wireless connections for it to reconnect.
I have tried the workarounds suggested - /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 power off and
"options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" but both do not work for me.
I have not tried both workarounds together though and will try that today. If
that fails too, I think that I give a try with ndiswrapper and windows drivers.
My question with ndiswrapper would be, how can I be sure that iwlwifi is not
loaded and windows drivers are loaded? Do I blacklist iwlwifi?
Regards,
Aravind

[Bug 601569] Re: update-manager crashed with URLError in open_local_file()

2012-06-17 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Steps to reproduce:

1. install old java version from a package (e.g. old java originally from
canonical repo for 10.04)
2. Run following commands
$ git clone https://github.com/flexiondotorg/oab-java6.git
$ cd oab-java6
$ sudo ./oab-java.sh
3. Open package manager, notice that java upgrades are available and click any
line to see version information and changelog.

Expected results: changelog is missing so the changelog pane should only
display the old version and the new version
Actual results: changelog is missing and as a result, the python code throws an
exception that is not handled correctly. The code path for local repositories
is missing the "file not found" exception handler for changelog files.

[Bug 1014478] [NEW] No PPD available for HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color m551

2012-06-17 Thread Lixin Chin
Public bug reported:

The HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color m551dn printer is claimed to be
fully supported using HPLIP 3.11.10 (http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-
web/models/color_laserjet/hp_laserjet_500_color_m551.html), so it should
be supported under the 3.12.2 version shipped with Ubuntu 12.04.

Installing the printer using KDE's print setup interface to CUPS
defaults to using the HP DesignJet 500 Foomatic/cdnj500 driver, which
works, but doesn't allow duplex printing, at least when trying from
okular.

Installing the printer using hplip-gui (hp-setup) spits out a warning
message about

warning: No PPD found for model laserjet_500_color_m551 using new
algorithm. Trying old algorithm...

And the PPD field is defaulted to
foomatic-db-compressed-ppds:0/ppd/foomatic-ppd/HP-LaserJet_5100-pxlmono.ppd

Which *does* allow duplex printing from okular, but fails to print in
colour.

There is more risk of trouble than that. With this change, after lxc is
installed, dnsmasq will operate in bind-interfaces mode whereas it might
have been operating in unbound mode before. In bind-interfaces mode
dnsmasq will not notice new interfaces, etc.

[Bug 1014475] [NEW] multiple logged in users causes X to be blank coming back from suspend

2012-06-17 Thread tonydiethelm
Public bug reported:

Hi,

With multiple people logged into my computer, when I come back from
suspend I'm faced with a blank screen. There is a mouse present, and it
moves... but I can't log in.

I can go to a terminal (Ctrl Alt F1), log in, use ps to find the process
id of X, use kill on it, and I'm able to use Ctrl Alt F7 to get back.
Ta Da, I can log in as normal. I don't know if it's X, or if killing X
resets whatever is causing the problem. Sorry.

This doesn't appear to happen until I've had more than one user logged
in.

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04.

Whenever alarms are stopped there's a notification that it has been
  stop, which is redudant.

- There's the notification when the alarm sounds. That's the whole point
+  There's the notification when the alarm sounds. That's the whole point
of an alarm, but the notification for the stop alarm action is
superfluous and just clutters the notifications in Gnome 3.

IMO the stopped alarm notifications should be removed or at least an
option to disable them should be added.

+ 1. Create a new timer in the alarm-clock-applet Alarms window.
+ 2. Start the timer if not started already.

[Bug 994575] Re: /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/000resolvconf should "exit 0" if pppd was run by NM, since NM will register the nameserver addresses itself

2012-06-17 Thread Thomas Hood
The patch I submitted in #23 fixes the bug insofar as it changes
resolvconf's pppd hook script so that it doesn't create an unneeded
"ppp0" record when pppd has been run by nm-pptp-service. However, it
has the shortcoming that the hook script fails to delete such a record
created by an earlier version of the script. The result is that if
resolvconf is upgraded while pppd is running under nm-pptp-service then
the unwanted record remains in the database even after the PPP interface
has been brought down. Not good. The problem disappears on reboot, but
still.

The attached patch (skip-resolvconf-under-pptp_20120618th1.diff) fixes
this. Patched with this patch instead of the previous one, the hook
script creates the record with a different name (e.g., 'ppp0.pppd') from
the name used before ('ppp0') and, on down, unconditionally deletes the
old record.

The new name follows conventions whereas the old name did not, so the
name change is in itself an improvement.

(The name change will also be made in Debian eventually. I'm not sure
about the special casing of nm-pptp-service yet I will have to look
at Debian's n-m.)

don't call resolvconf if pppd was called by nm-pptp-service"
