[Bug 1015935] [NEW] SWAT segfaults when trying to view full configuration
Public bug reported: When running swat on a 32bit 12.04 install, swat segfaults when the user clicks on the Full View button in the configuration menu. This only happens on the 32bit install, the 64bit install seems fine. This was reported to upstream under https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8999 but can only be reproduced with the distro packages. swat crashes with the following backtrace (sorry for the missing debug symbols, the samba-dbg package doesn't seem to help gdb getting debug symbols for swat): (gdb) bt #0 0xb72340c0 in ?? () #1 0xb7d7923c in _talloc_free () from /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtalloc.so.2 #2 0x80215875 in smb_iconv_close () #3 0x80204d65 in ?? () #4 0x802051d8 in smb_iconv_convenience_reinit () #5 0x801f2bf5 in init_iconv () #6 0x801f2c32 in lazy_initialize_conv () #7 0x801f35e5 in convert_string_talloc () #8 0x80074c99 in cgi_load_variables () #9 0x80071e3c in main () A relatively straightforward way to reproduce the crash in gdb is running gdb swat, and then typing in GET /viewconfig HTTP/1.1 Authorization: Basic base64 of user:pass then grab the xsrf and xsrf_time values in the form displayed... GET /viewconfig?full_view=Full+Viewxsrf=xsrfxsrf_time=xsrf_time HTTP/1.1 Authorization: Basic base64 of user:pass and the segfault happens. With the current v3-6-test git HEAD from the samba git, this doesn't happen. The last time this code was touched upstream was in 2009, so I'm not sure a code change caused this. You cannot reproduce the crash if you start swat with -a to skip the authentication logic, so you need to set up a root password for this to work. [Bug 1015941] [NEW] SUDO_USER should be used also when calling with 'vcs commit'
Public bug reported: In the past a patch was submitted to have the unprivileged user calling 'sudo etckeeper' being reported as the commit author instead of root. This involved using SUDO_USER instead of USER when calling the undelying VCS command. This appear to be implemented only for 'etckeeper commit'. My workflow more frequently involves calling 'etckeeper vcs add/commit' to separate logically different changes and for documentation purpose. I can try to propose a patch for this but hints are welcome to focus on the right place to implement such a change. Reporting here because I use etckeeper (0.52) with Ubuntu server (11.04) but looking at upstream code, no related changes result in the repo. ** Affects: etckeeper (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to etckeeper in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015941 Title: SUDO_USER should be used also when calling with 'vcs commit' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/etckeeper/+bug/1015941/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I think its something todo with: dpkg: warning: files list file for package `mysql-server-core-5.5' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed. dpkg: warning: files list file for package `mysql-client-core-5.5' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed. The mysqld binary is provided by mysql-server-core-5.5 - and it appears to be missing when mysql-server is configured which is not correct. It looks like you system might be in an inconsistent state (might be todo with find / -iname ‘mysql*’ -exec rm -rf {} \; if you ran it - not good advice IMHO). [Bug 1003481] Re: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.22-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi Ken Thanks for taking the time to report this bug in Ubuntu. Looks like the bootstrap part of the install failed. As you can see from the error messages in #2 it looks like mysql was unable to create files in /tmp - this was blocked by apparmor. Is your /tmp folder a standard directory? Looks like it might be a symbolic link to /media/B1/tmp which would be the cause of the problem. You can either update the apparmor profile or switch /tmp back to be a normal mountpoint if this is the case. Marking 'Invalid'. If /tmp is a standard directory and not a symbolic link please set back to 'New' and tell us a bit more about your install. [Bug 1016018] [NEW] package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.62-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: Carried out the usual security package updates through Ubuntu Xfce GUI Package Manager. During the update procedure I noticed the update process included a mysql-server upgrade and a notification informing this could take some time. After two days and two nights, I realized this was taking far longer than expected and thought something must be wrong. The CPU, memory and network activity was monitored using GUI System Monitor which showed a high usage on one of the CPU cores (Intel i3 - 3.10GHz). This would change to a different core overtime. After rebooting I logged into a terminal console and proceeded with the command line security package update using the 'sudo apt-get update' command, which started successfully. However at the end it did report an issue with dpkg of mysql-server and suggested the following command to run to resolve the issue: dpkg --configure -a Copious messages followed, however the following was reported: Setting up libmysqlclient16 (5.1.63-0ubuntu0.10.04.1) ... [Bug 1016111] [NEW] Passing an incorrect zone name to euca-create-volume results in a volume stuck in the creating state
Public bug reported: What happens: I have two regions and one availability zone (AZ) for my Essex cluster. When creating a volume I accidentally used the region name instead of the AZ name. This resulted in a volume being stuck in the creating state which I cannot delete. What I expect: I expect two things: 1. The volume creation should fail (it currently does) 2. The volume to go into an error state (it does not currently do this) Reasoning: Having the volume go into an error state informs the user that there was a problem and does not leave them wondering if they should wait longer in case the command hasn't completed. Steps to reproduce: 1. user@laptop:~$ euca-create-volume -s 2 # command requires a zone These required options are missing: zone 2. user@laptop:~$ euca-create-volume -s 2 -z lcy-2 # accidentally pass a non-existant zone name VOLUME vol-00012 lcy-2 creating 2012-06-21T13:50:10.074Z 3. user@laptop:~$ euca-describe-volumes vol-0001 VOLUME vol-0001 2 lcy-2 creating 2012-06-21T13:50:10.000Z 4. [Bug 1015369] Re: IOError: [Errno 32] Broken pipe on start when many lists are present
As Ryan said, this is low priority. I can see 2 potential fixes: a.) change list_lists to handle the closed pipe correctly and exit without trace b.) change 'grep -q' to 'grep /dev/null' Additionally: * this also affects debian, and carrying ubuntu delta for this change doesn't seem to make much sense * list_lists is not present in mailman upstream 3.0 line. Ryan, Given the above, if you'd like to see this fixed, could you report the bug to debian [1]? and then link that bug to this? I personally think that the 'grep /dev/null' is a sufficient fix given the fact that list_lists is gone in upstream. -- [1] http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting ** Changed in: mailman (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: mailman (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mailman in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015369 Title: IOError: [Errno 32] Broken pipe on start when many lists are present To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mailman/+bug/1015369/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

reading clamav-base.postinst, it seems that on new install, it tries to add user. It does not check if the user exists first. So this is either expected failure, in order to avoid re-using an unexpected ID, or clamav should not create the user if it already exists. http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-howto/ch9.en.html#s-bpp-lower-privs has information on that. ** Changed in: clamav (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: clamav (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to clamav in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015414 Title: package clamav-base 0.97.3+dfsg-2.1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: sub-processo script post-installation instalado retornou estado de saída de erro 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/clamav/+bug/1015414/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1015828] Re: package clamav-milter 0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
There was a regression in 0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.1 that prevented it from being installed properly on new installations. 0.97.5+dfsg- 1ubuntu0.12.04.2 was quickly released to solve the issue. You may need to uninstall clamav completely before attempting to install 0.97.5+dfsg- 1ubuntu0.12.04.2. Although, looking at the DpkgTerminalLog, that may not be the exact issue you are having, as it would seem clamav-milter is failing to start. [Blueprint servercloud-q-juju-charms-release-policy] Clarifying Charm Store policy around Ubuntu Releases
Blueprint changed by Antonio Rosales: Whiteboard changed: + Topics: + * When do we advance the charms dev focus to each new release of Ubuntu + * Should we auto backport and forward port charms, if so, how? + Charm Store Policy - This is a living policy, we will not try to get it perfect, so trying to get it perfect is not useful, we need to be agile and revisit our policies on a regular basis. - Charm Store doesn't freeze - I want stability. I want a single place to collaborate around. backports? charm store submissions? When to open the next release series? Where we've been doing: - Default series is LTS with juju deploy foo Where do we want to go with it: - Default series should be LTS with juju deploy foo - Search should default to the best possible solution first. what do we mean by: - open - able to push to this series - development focus - default series to build against? dev focus with release (at beta?) but insure lts gets as much focus as we can one approach - commit to latest dev focus - try to test on previous release - try to test further back two things to do this: - blacklisting for tests - better automated testing also start forward testing as soon as alpha1 is available perhaps charm browser can show test status for each charm... _per release_ security is an aspect of this when considering preventing, allowing, or automating back-ports maybe don't auto-backport... put on the maintainer's shoulders? what about use tags?... auto-backport only tagged appropriately? (kinda like pockets security, etc etc) Tags for charms to denote default behavior perhaps the only valid tags we can use are ones that can be automatically tested? we digress... we branched too late for precise release next time... ? - q the dev focus on beta1 day? - what to do with backports? hard problem, we don't have solid answers... maybe we just need to make a decision and run with it follow the distro model, but lag by three months adjust on demand Dev focus to stay on LTS (precise) and push promulgated charms forward and test forward WORK ITEMS? - Please integrate the spec @ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BlueprintSpec - [a.rosales]. + + + User Stories: + * Jesse's Charm is in 12.04 and he would like a clear understanding of how his Charm will progress in the Charm store when 12.10 is released. + * Andrew has he charm included in 12.10 charm store and would like to know what the policy is for that charm being included in 12.04. + + + Assumptions: + * This is a living document that can be adjusted based of feedback, and experience. + * Launchpad is technically able to manage Charms outlined in the policy. + + Test Plans: + * Document and implement policy. Get feedback from users. + + Release Note: + * Add information on where the The Charm Store Policy can be read. -- Clarifying Charm Store policy around Ubuntu Releases https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-q-juju-charms-release-policy -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
