[Bug 1029777] Re: Use overlayfs in lxc-clone
Thanks, this is something we do want to support. One thing we need to consider is that the original container or base rootfs cannot be deleted or the cloned container will disappear. This requires some special new checks in lxc-destroy. Overlayfs does have some bugs which are not being resolved quickly. (At least /proc/$pid/maps being corrupted, there may be more). Ephemeral containers are deemed more 'experimental' than 'real' containers, so it may be worth waiting to support overlayfs in lxc-clone, which produces real containers, until those are resolved. [Bug 998156] Re: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength
This also affects Evince and Gedit. I discovered the bug whilst trying to print using Evince to a custom page size (A4 but with a 40mm left border) which I called Sunshine Border. Both preview and printing either fail or sometimes print using default A4 margins. I was trying to track down the cause for that inconsistency and followed a bug-trail to this report. I compared Evince against Gedit. After selecting the custom size in the Print dialog (in my case Sunshine Border) I found Gedit's preview will show the 40mm border, but printing fails... ... UNLESS I have previously used the CUPS printer administration to set the default page-size to 'Custom' and entered the 210x297 millimetre values. http://localhost:631/admin/ Printers DESKJET-995C Administration Set Default Options... Media Size = Custom, Width=210, Height=297, Units=Millimeters Set Default Options. I noticed in CUPS error_log that PageSize wasn't 0x0 for me (only get that when selecting Custom when the size hasn't been configured in CUPS administrator): PageSize=Custom.Custom.595.28x841.89 At first I thought this was in millimeters and is wrong, but then realised the units are points (1 PostScript point = 0.35278 millimetres). So, in summary: Gedit: Can print using custom paper size as long as CUPS default custom size is also configured, and custom margins are honoured. Evince: Can print using custom paper size as long as CUPS default custom size is also configured, but custom margins are ignored. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998156 Title: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/998156/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1029912] [NEW] Evince ignores custom page size margins
Public bug reported: Affects 12.04 Precise. This appears identical to bug #348202 Impossible to print to custom page size in Evince. Evince doesn't respect a custom paper size with a reduced margin ( for printing on pre-printed paper). Using a HP Deskjet 995C A4 ink-jet printer with duplexer which contains pre-printed A4 paper stock. This paper has a printed border down the left side. Avoiding it requires the page to use a 40mm left margin. I need a custom paper size based on the A4 210x297mm size with margins 12.7, 12.7, 40.0, 3.2 mm. In Evince I did: File Print... General Printer = DESKJET-995C Page Setup Paper size Manage Custom Sizes... Margins from Printer... DESKJET-995C Paper Margins: Left = 40.0 Name = Sunshine Border Close Paper size = Sunshine Border Print The result is as if printing to the standard A4 paper-size. The left margin is not honoured. I found that Gedit does honour the margin. [Bug 1017045] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise() - 12.04 on amd64
Same here, 5th freeze only this day. It was starting when I have changed my machine to a Lenovo T530, by swapping disk containing a Precise install. It is not just quite annoying, it makes work nearly impossible. I have switched from compiz to classic gnome with no effects, with no effect. Freezes are still haunting me. A hint: in at least some cases the hang have occured when I expected a new window to appear. In one time the window have actually appeared but it remained grey for the end of time. danykor, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it. [Bug 731614] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.38/net/sched/sch_generic.c:256 dev_watchdog+0x2a0/0x2b0()
Rick McBride, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. [Bug 711229] Re: 10ec:8168 wired internet regression in 2.6.35-25-generic r8169
This was fixed when I upgraded to Natty Natwhal. At the time I investegated a little more and found I could resolve the problem by reverting a networking configuration change that I had added to work around a previous bug. [Bug 1020436] Re: Cannot read superblock after FC multipath failover
Could you please file a new bug against LVM/lucid (just add a tag 'lucid') detailing this behavior? Thanks. I've never been a fan of LVM's filtering mechanism, then again the source is there, I could do something about it :) What you described here: However as soon as I use something like: filter = [ a|.*|, r|loop[0-9]| ] Then I don't get any filtering at all... except that defining _only_ the removal filters, per: filter = [ r|loop[0-9]+| ] .. and other filters of that ilk DO work as expected -- so long as I remove the accept-all regex. Sounds like a bug to me. The whole point of this filter-in, filter-out mechanism is to perform operations that exclude everything by default, and then allow only certain devices in. Just like you would configure a firewall. As for multipath aliasing, it happens more often than I would like, which is why I made such a point to include it into the official documentation. Once you start stacking block devices it can get complicated very quickly. We should probably expand the docs to include udev alias examples, as configurations like yours are the second most common e.g. disk 1 not part of VG but everything else is. Glad we could get you sorted. I really appreciate the level of detail and responsiveness you were able to provide. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1020436 Title: Cannot read superblock after FC multipath failover To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/multipath-tools/+bug/1020436/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 999765] Re: Dash search won't return results when typing the exact name of an app containing a capital letter inside it
It is the capital letter in the middle. The reason it works with openoffice is because the command to start it includes the word openoffice without the capital letter. My guess is unity is splitting the words when it finds a capital letter, so it indexes net and beans but not netbeans. As the command to start netbeans is not something like /usr/bin/netbeans it is not indexed there either. There's a workaround: edit the desktop file and either change the app name to Netbeans or add the word netbeans in the comment. Here's how. sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/netbeans-7.2.desktop [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=NetBeans IDE 7.2 Comment=The Smarter Way to Code netbeans Exec=/bin/sh /usr/local/netbeans-7.2/bin/netbeans Icon=/usr/local/netbeans-7.2/nb/netbeans.png Categories=Application;Development;Java;IDE Version=1.0 Type=Application Terminal=0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/999765 Title: Dash search won't return results when typing the exact name of an app containing a capital letter inside it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/999765/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Happens to me after last update. ALSA 1.0.24 on Ubuntu 11.10. Before updating it was all fine (when the earphones are plugged the speakers get mute). After rebooting, it does not work anymore (I tried rebooting pulseaudio, disabling respawn, toggling the comment, etc.). Happens also when pulseaudio is off. [Bug 1024368] Re: Doesn't provide browser plugin
Q:Are you sure that this is an upstream bug? A:I think yes. A installation package should set the all system relevant configurations correctly and automatically. (In past I have done this manually in Ubuntu12.04 for switch between openjdk6 and openjdk7). When it does not do it is a bug of their installation routine(or a missing ability). Anyway, your third party software is per definition in the category of multiverse and with this no cananical developer will do hands on directly. The only exception may be when you/we be able to proof that core parts of Ubuntu causes this misbehaviour. Martijn Kint, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try a VM with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available in your VM that would be great. [Bug 1021530] Re: [SRU] update to include stable fixes for OVS 1.4
A PPC failure would not block publishing of other arches into precise- proposed. In fact, openvswitch failed on PPC for the release as well. Its a port architecture so it won't block the release/cause removal if it only FTBFS on PPC. The package update may have been delayed a bit, but i see openvswitch- datapath-dkms in http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise- proposed/universe/binary-amd64/Packages.gz Ben, we'd love to know what bugs have been fixed in the 1.4 branch and bring them into the distro as updates if they meet our usual criteria for updates. We often import whole upstream patch-only releases, we just ask that either all bugs fixed be documented so we can review the changes and test that the fix works, or that you document your own regression avoidance procedures so we can make a judgement call on whether that meets ubuntu users' needs for stability. If it looks good, we can look at doing a micro release exception for openvswitch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021530 Title: [SRU] update to include stable fixes for OVS 1.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openvswitch/+bug/1021530/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1029894] Re: Shotwell drag and drop does not work.
This ticket really should be marked invalid -- and I say this as an upstream Shotwell dev. Shotwell can be run in two modes. One of these modes is library mode, where Shotwell manages a library of photos, allowing tagging, events, etc. However, Shotwell can also be invoked in direct edit mode, where Shotwell is invoked on a single image to allow quick re-touching, etc. In the video, Shotwell is running in direct edit mode. Drag and drop has never been supported in direct edit mode, since the whole point of direct edit mode is to directly edit a single photo. Drag and drop only works in library mode for importing and exporting photos to and from the Shotwell library. So Shotwell is functioning as designed. If drag drop in direct edit mode is a desired feature in Shotwell, that should be opened as a feature request on our upstream bug tracker at http://redmine.yorba.org. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1029894 Title: Shotwell drag and drop does not work.
