[Bug 1029777] Re: Use overlayfs in lxc-clone

2012-07-27 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks, this is something we do want to support.

One thing we need to consider is that the original container or base
rootfs cannot be deleted or the cloned container will disappear. This
requires some special new checks in lxc-destroy.

Overlayfs does have some bugs which are not being resolved quickly. (At
least /proc/$pid/maps being corrupted, there may be more). Ephemeral
containers are deemed more 'experimental' than 'real' containers, so it
may be worth waiting to support overlayfs in lxc-clone, which produces
real containers, until those are resolved.

I will mark this Triaged and wishlist priority.

[Bug 998156] Re: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength

2012-07-27 Thread TJ
This also affects Evince and Gedit.

I discovered the bug whilst trying to print using Evince to a custom page size
(A4 but with a 40mm left border) which I called Sunshine Border.
Both preview and printing either fail or sometimes print using default A4
margins. I was trying to track down the cause for that inconsistency and
followed a bug-trail to this report.

I compared Evince against Gedit. After selecting the custom size in the Print
dialog (in my case Sunshine Border) I found Gedit's preview will show the
40mm border, but printing fails...
... UNLESS I have previously used the CUPS printer administration to set the
default page-size to 'Custom' and entered the 210x297 millimetre values.

http://localhost:631/admin/

Printers DESKJET-995C Administration Set Default Options...
Media Size = Custom, Width=210, Height=297, Units=Millimeters Set
Default Options.

I noticed in CUPS error_log that PageSize wasn't 0x0 for me (only get
that when selecting Custom when the size hasn't been configured in
CUPS administrator):

PageSize=Custom.Custom.595.28x841.89

At first I thought this was in millimeters and is wrong, but then
realised the units are points (1 PostScript point = 0.35278
millimetres).

So, in summary:

Gedit: Can print using custom paper size as long as CUPS default custom size is
also configured, and custom margins are honoured.
Evince: Can print using custom paper size as long as CUPS default custom size
is also configured, but custom margins are ignored.

[Bug 1029912] [NEW] Evince ignores custom page size margins

2012-07-27 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

Affects 12.04 Precise. This appears identical to bug #348202 Impossible
to print to custom page size in Evince.

Evince doesn't respect a custom paper size with a reduced margin ( for
printing on pre-printed paper).

Using a HP Deskjet 995C A4 ink-jet printer with duplexer which contains
pre-printed A4 paper stock. This paper has a printed border down the
left side. Avoiding it requires the page to use a 40mm left margin.

I need a custom paper size based on the A4 210x297mm size with margins
12.7, 12.7, 40.0, 3.2 mm.

In Evince I did:

File Print... General Printer = DESKJET-995C
Page Setup Paper size Manage Custom Sizes...
  Margins from Printer... DESKJET-995C
  Paper Margins: Left = 40.0
  Name = Sunshine Border
   Close
  Paper size = Sunshine Border
 Print

The result is as if printing to the standard A4 paper-size. The left
margin is not honoured.

I found that Gedit does honour the margin. For more information see also
my comment no. 60 on a related high-priority bug #998156 GTK Print

Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 12.04 64bits when an application is open.
Open a second file that can be openend by the same application and the file
brower keeps focus and not the opened file/window/application

Reproduce:
Open a file (for example a picture)
1) The application opens and has focus
2) Go back to the file browser window
3) Click on a other file, window opens but does not have focus
4) go back to the file browser window and open an already openend file, noting
happens and does not grab focus.
See the video included for these steps.
It happens with the applications in the same way, (gedit, EOG). It workes ok
with Libreoffice.

[Bug 1017045] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise() - 12.04 on amd64

2012-07-27 Thread Magosányi Árpád
Same here, 5th freeze only this day.
It was starting when I have changed my machine to a Lenovo T530, by swapping
disk containing a Precise install.
It is not just quite annoying, it makes work nearly impossible.

I have switched from compiz to classic gnome with no effects, with no
effect. Freezes are still haunting me.

A hint: in at least some cases the hang have occured when I expected a
new window to appear. In one time the window have actually appeared but
it remained grey for the end of time.

I suspect the graphics card. Any hints on turning off all graphic
accelerations would be appreciated.

I am willing to test anything to make this disappear.

2012-07-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
danykor, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue?
Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the
development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do
not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the
bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the
'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow
pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description
and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment
on which kernel version specifically you tested.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment
as to why specifically you were unable to test it.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

activity in it recently.

Thanks in advance.

any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an

images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would

'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow
pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description
and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment
on which kernel version specifically you tested.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment
as to why specifically you were unable to test it.

[Bug 711229] Re: 10ec:8168 wired internet regression in 2.6.35-25-generic r8169

2012-07-27 Thread Darren
This was fixed when I upgraded to Natty Natwhal.
At the time I investegated a little more and found I could resolve the problem
by reverting a networking configuration change that I had added to work around
a previous bug.
It was strange (and annoying at the time) that the non-standard configuration
broke with the update, but it was probably not a kernel bug.

[Bug 1029926] [NEW] Auto-login does not work with lightdm

2012-07-27 Thread Justin Rich
Public bug reported:

Release from lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04
**Note** This is actually Xubuntu, with XFCE 4.8.

Lightdm Package:
lightdm:
  Installed: 1.2.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.2.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1.2.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Attempted asking on launchpad first, this is the post:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+question/204213

In summary, when I installed I selected to use autologin and it worked
fine, except that it was using en_GB locale instead of en_US. Didn't
know how to change locale at first so I just went to
ApplicationsSystemUsers and Groups and made it ask for a password to
login. This allowed me to select locale on login. I've since changed
it to automatically use en_US so I tried to turn auto-login back on. I
at first just clicked the box to no longer ask for a password and it
didn't work. It switched to a nosplash view for about a second and
switched back to the greeter. Had to log in as a guest and change it
back to asking for a password so that I could log in. This is my
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf output:

[SeatDefaults]
user-session=xubuntu
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
autologin-user=justin
autologin-user-timeout=0

Just like http://xubuntu.org/news/faq-1204-precise/ says.

This is the only thing that stuck out from /var/log/lightdm.log:

[+941.41s] WARNING: Could not call SetLanguage:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Acc$

Syslog only had one thing when I grepped lightdm:

Jul 27 07:16:00 justin-Presario-V2000-EZ617UA-ABA lightdm: pam_ecryptfs:
Passphrase file wrapped

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1020436] Re: Cannot read superblock after FC multipath failover

2012-07-27 Thread Peter Petrakis
Could you please file a new bug against LVM/lucid (just add a tag 'lucid')
detailing
this behavior? Thanks.

I've never been a fan of LVM's filtering mechanism, then again the source is
there, I could do something about it :)

What you described here:

However as soon as I use something like:

filter = [ a|.*|, r|loop[0-9]| ]

Then I don't get any filtering at all... except that defining _only_ the
removal filters, per:

filter = [ r|loop[0-9]+| ]

.. and other filters of that ilk DO work as expected -- so long as I remove the
accept-all regex.

Sounds like a bug to me. The whole point of this filter-in, filter-out
mechanism is
to perform operations that exclude everything by default, and then allow only
certain
devices in. Just like you would configure a firewall.

As for multipath aliasing, it happens more often than I would like, which is
why I
made such a point to include it into the official documentation. Once you start
stacking block devices it can get complicated very quickly. We should probably
expand the docs to include udev alias examples, as configurations like yours
are the
second most common e.g. disk 1 not part of VG but everything else is.

Glad we could get you sorted. I really appreciate the level of detail and
responsiveness
you were able to provide.

[Bug 999765] Re: Dash search won't return results when typing the exact name of an app containing a capital letter inside it

2012-07-27 Thread Federico Tello Gentile
It is the capital letter in the middle. The reason it works with
openoffice is because the command to start it includes the word
openoffice without the capital letter.

My guess is unity is splitting the words when it finds a capital letter,
so it indexes net and beans but not netbeans. As the command to
start netbeans is not something like /usr/bin/netbeans it is not indexed
there either.

There's a workaround: edit the desktop file and either change the app
name to Netbeans or add the word netbeans in the comment. Here's
how.

sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/netbeans-7.2.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=NetBeans IDE 7.2
Comment=The Smarter Way to Code netbeans
Exec=/bin/sh /usr/local/netbeans-7.2/bin/netbeans
Icon=/usr/local/netbeans-7.2/nb/netbeans.png

[Bug 731893] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.38/net/sched/sch_generic.c:256 dev_watchdog 0x2a0/0x2b0()

2012-07-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jurjen Stellingwerff, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD
images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the
development release from a Terminal

[Bug 921397] Re: Speaker audio channel goes mute after plugging in the headphone

2012-07-27 Thread KernelPanic
Happens to me after last update. ALSA 1.0.24 on Ubuntu 11.10. Before
updating it was all fine (when the earphones are plugged the speakers
get mute). After last system update, when I plug the earphones
everything is mute, both speakers and earphones.

The first workaround I read (commenting code = Headphone) worked only
the first time. After rebooting, it does not work anymore (I tried
rebooting pulseaudio, disabling respawn, toggling the comment, etc.).
Happens also when pulseaudio is off.

This is very annoying to me as I can't use VOIP (unless I use it with
speakers, which of course produces echo in mic).

My laptop is a vaio VPCS11E7E
lspci: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio
(rev 05)
Codec: Realtek ALC275

[Bug 1029932] [NEW] Brightness and Volume laptop keys behave inconsistently

2012-07-27 Thread Greg Auger

Holding the volume up button causes the volume to continually go up. The

[Bug 1024368] Re: Doesn't provide browser plugin

2012-07-27 Thread melchiaros
Q:Are you sure that this is an upstream bug?

A:I think yes.

A installation package should set the all system relevant configurations
correctly and automatically.

(In past I have done this manually in Ubuntu12.04 for switch between
openjdk6 and openjdk7).

When it does not do it is a bug of their installation routine(or a
missing ability).

Anyway, your third party software is per definition in the category of
multiverse and with this no cananical developer will do hands on
directly.

The only exception may be when you/we be able to proof that core parts
of Ubuntu causes this misbehaviour.

As I descripted above: I do not thnk so.

when you have a good argumentation that shows the opposite, please write. When
you can show which core component it is, we extend the report to this.

** Description changed:

+ 1) lsb_release -rd
+ Description: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
+ Release: 10.04
+
+ 2) The version of the package you are using: Don't know it's probably
+ related to the xfs kernel module looking at the stacktrace
+
+ 3) What I expected to happen is that the instance doesn't crash on IO
+ operations.
+
+ 4) What happened instead is the machine freezes and can only be restored
+ by killing it from the hostmachine issuing the command virsh destroy
+ instance_name.
+
The server on which this happens is actually a KVM instance running on a
Ubuntu Lucid 64bit hostmachine, the instance is also a 64 bit lucid
installation. It seems to be correlated between some network traffic and
IO on the hostmachine (the hostmachine rsyncs snapshots to a
  backupmachine limited to 100 mbit/s )

[Bug 733302] Re: Sony VAIO fails to resume after suspend

2012-07-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Steve Conklin, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Maverick reached EOL on April 10, 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend ? As well, can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note you
can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the issue
remains, run the following command in the development release from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal) as it will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux BUGNUMBER

[Bug 1021530] Re: [SRU] update to include stable fixes for OVS 1.4

2012-07-27 Thread Clint Byrum
A PPC failure would not block publishing of other arches into precise-
proposed. In fact, openvswitch failed on PPC for the release as well.
Its a port architecture so it won't block the release/cause removal if
it only FTBFS on PPC.

The package update may have been delayed a bit, but i see openvswitch-
datapath-dkms in http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-
proposed/universe/binary-amd64/Packages.gz

Ben, we'd love to know what bugs have been fixed in the 1.4 branch and
bring them into the distro as updates if they meet our usual criteria
for updates. We often import whole upstream patch-only releases, we just
ask that either all bugs fixed be documented so we can review the
changes and test that the fix works, or that you document your own
regression avoidance procedures so we can make a judgement call on
whether that meets ubuntu users' needs for stability. If it looks good,
we can look at doing a micro release exception for openvswitch.

Although I also experienced the same issue again with kernel 3.5.0-6, something
has changed.
Before this kernel I did not have full screen capabilities, currently I have.
Even after reboots.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 965492 ***

I don't think this is a duplicate of bug #965492 since this bug is about
taking a long time to open/show the dash and the #965492 is about taking
a long time to show icons on the dash, after it is opened/shown.

With 0.8.2 the start page shows google search page in chinese.

[Bug 994309] Re: wine is uninstallable

2012-07-27 Thread slegrand
Thanks for the reply on this. It's a little strange that this would happen with
the upgrade. I mean I've really not done much to my system and it many ways it
could have been considered vanilla. That the 12.04 dist-upgrade messed up my
dpkg installl is really weird isn't it? I cannot test this right now but I will
test it tonight and will report back on whether it helped or not.
Thanks again.

2012-07-27 Thread Johannes Schmid
Hmm, there is some information in this report but it's still missing the
stacktrace.

[Bug 1029894] Re: Shotwell drag and drop does not work.

2012-07-27 Thread Lucas Beeler
This ticket really should be marked invalid -- and I say this as an
upstream Shotwell dev. Shotwell can be run in two modes. One of these
modes is library mode, where Shotwell manages a library of photos,
allowing tagging, events, etc. However, Shotwell can also be invoked in
direct edit mode, where Shotwell is invoked on a single image to allow
quick re-touching, etc.

In the video, Shotwell is running in direct edit mode. Drag and drop has
never been supported in direct edit mode, since the whole point of
direct edit mode is to directly edit a single photo. Drag and drop
only works in library mode for importing and exporting photos to and
from the Shotwell library.

So Shotwell is functioning as designed.

If drag drop in direct edit mode is a desired feature in Shotwell,
that should be opened as a feature request on our upstream bug tracker
at http://redmine.yorba.org.
