[Bug 772616] Re: Suspend/Resume does not work

2012-07-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
stvan Szekeres, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend ? As well, could you
please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO
CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the
kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on
which kernel version specifically you tested.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment
as to why specifically you were unable to test it.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 794242] Re: Festival in 11.04 exits when it shouldn't and doesn't when it should

2012-07-28 Thread Carlos Salgado
Apparently festival configuration files have be customized to be "debian
specific". Not sure what that means but I assume it was so it more
easily integrated with whatever sound interface is in vogue at the
moment.

To do this, it plays a temporary raw audio file it creates using an
external program called aplay. aplay is based on the ALSA sound
interface and comes in the "alsa-utils" package. It appears aplay
causes festival to terminate prematurely. To *me* it appears aplay
inserts an EOF into festival's stdin/read stream. ALSA packages have
had several changes recently.

changed the second to last line in /etc/festival.scm

FROM:

(Parameter.set 'Audio_Command "aplay -q -c 1 -t raw -f s16 -r $SR
$FILE")

TO:

(Parameter.set 'Audio_Command "play -q -c 1 -t s16 -r $SR $FILE")

play comes in the "sox" package.SoX is very robust and well
supported.

note that "aplay" is also mentioned in other places in
/usr/share/festival/*.scm files. When they come into use I am not sure.

There probably is a better fix, but this does work.

.

[Bug 1030450] [NEW] After logout from user account greeter is not displayed

2012-07-28 Thread yesint
Public bug reported:

After usual update I got the following problem:
I have 3 users - one with sudo priviledges and 2 ordinary. When ordinary user
logs out the black screen is shown - no greeter, just nothing. Doing "sudo stop
lightdm; sudo start lightdm" doesn't help - the same black screen. Only restart
helps.
There is no such problem with sudo user - log out works just fine for it and
greeter is shown.
I have no idea how to locate the problem.

[Bug 772273] Re: Kernel spits ata3.00: head unload failed! messages

2012-07-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Dariusz Dwornikowski, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

[Bug 1005821] Re: Can't use # as the delimiter between key prefixes and IDs.

2012-07-28 Thread Clint Byrum
Patch looks good to me. I don't see any problem with carrying it until
upstream imports it, especially since I think distros are the only real
users of start-memcached.

I forwarded it upstream and to Debian. Marking Triaged.

[Bug 772616] Re: Suspend/Resume does not work

2012-07-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

Suspend/Resume used to work correctly in Maverick (i.e. it worked 9
times out of 10 which I considered "correct"). Since the upgrade to
Natty it works properly after a fresh reboot (i.e. for the first time),
but it does not work for the second time, when the system was already
suspended+resumed before. In this case during suspend time (after
pressing the suspend button on the keyboard) the screen goes blank
(black), it no longer responds to pings on the network, but the system
does not stop (i.e. fans are still going, no "shutdown" feeling). The
only way I could find to get the system out of this state is by pressing
the power button for 5 secs which completely turns the PC off, and then
I can turn it on again but this does not play very nicely with my raid
  array.

- Pls let me know what other info is needed to resolve this issue.
-
- I am not sure if this belongs to the "linux" package or not but I could
- not file a bug directly against Natty as a distro.

[Bug 877012] Re: [panel] on a multi monitor setup the panel length appears to be calculated with the screen in focus at the time of execution

2012-07-28 Thread John Bender
All,

Sorry to reopen this bug but it still exists in precise. I've attached a
simplified patch that has sorted out the issue for me. It's not for
inclusion but it's probably good for a quick lead on what a good
solution would be. Also this handles both the initial geometry
calculation when the panel is instantiated and also the situation when
either screen sees a resolution change. I had not mentioned the second
part of the problem before.

** Patch added: "add slot resize to update the geometry"

[Bug 1030210] Re: virtual display crashes on setting

2012-07-28 Thread Vramirez Delathor
On another note, I just finished installing the Ubuntu and now it does
not even detect the second monitor... I believe these 2 things are
inter-related.. if I can just restore the second monitor support on the
install, perhaps that shall be the solution to other problem for me. Let
me know, thanks.

[Bug 771333] Re: kernel hangs during boot without nolapic

2012-07-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Swen Kühnlein, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

I would expect unity to reset and be able to use my desktop instead my
desktop is blank with only firefox and terminal shortcut. I am unable
to login regularly instead I have a flashing screen with various errors
like stopping kernel and mountall stopping plymouth etc. After a time I
get this to stop using ctrl alt f1 and can use startx to get to
incorrectly operating desktop.

This began with update failures about 10 days ago resulting in ubuntu
system errors. I had a hdd fail and grub was reloaded causing me to not
be able to use gnome desktop.

[Bug 1030421] Re: Installing "node" (audio application) removes nodejs

There is a debate going on upstream about how to handle this conflict,

[Bug 1030442] [NEW] opening a file from the web fails

2012-07-28 Thread ill
Public bug reported:

In any web browser, when opening on a .tar.bz2 file with ark, the opened
zip file will incorrectly show a second nested bz2 file if that file
already exists in /tmp/. So opening with will work the first time, but
if you close that window, then open with the same program again, when
ark comes up, the contents of the zipped file are different.

[Bug 1004593] Re: LFE disappears on 5.1, 4.0 has LFE channel, high pitched squeals (bit shifting?), several versions

2012-07-28 Thread Abraham Mara
I think I found something that helps - I'll admit I can't piece it all together
on my own, and I've had ZERO feedback here, but to save someone else YEARS of
digging, I found this:
LFE channel disappearing:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/53802/subwoofer-sound-preferences-problem

Doesn't help anything with the static/squeaking/bit-shifting, again,
more than willing to help here if someone would even acknowledge a human
has READ this.. But it so far has fixed my disappearing bass
problem, and several other peoples' as well.

(The important part:
This is just a guess, but in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf set enable-lfe-remixing: no
to yes and make sure it is not commented (has no semicolon in front of it). If
you made changes, save them and restart your system (or just pulseaudio).

[Bug 613371] Re: Login is not possible in gdm when the user password is in expiration period

2012-07-28 Thread Olivier Diotte
This bug is still current. GDM still freezes when the Kerberos password
is expired.

Seeing as how this bug has been opened about 6 months after the last
response was posted here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=509092 I am unsure whether
it is relevant or not.

For the record, lightdm doesn't work either (in Precise) when the
password is expired. KDM v3 on Debian Squeeze also has a problem (it
tells the user the password is expired, but lets them login and won't
prompt for a password change).

[Bug 1030431] [NEW] Cando Touchscreen bad mouse events [Gigabyte T1125N]

2012-07-28 Thread mathew boorman
Public bug reported:

Touchscreen is continually producing bad mouse movement events, about once a
second.
The cursor gets moved over near the top left of the screen.

A workaround is to disable the touchscreen with xinput set-prop XX 'Device
Enabled'
where XX is the device number from xinput output.

[Bug 734908] Re: Unity is visible on top of fullscreen apps

2012-07-28 Thread quequotion
Can anyone provide screenshots showing that this bug has been fixed?

Specifically, I need to see:

- firefox in full-screen with no icons, clock, window title, etc
- a video playing in full-screen (any player) with no icons, clock, window
title, etc.
- a game being played in full-screen with no icons, clock, window title, etc.
- a screensaver with no icons, clock, window title, etc.

I have not seen that the bug was fixed in any version of unity and I'd
like to know if it's just me.
