[Bug 759898] Re: Title bar of applications which start before Unity does, gets hidden under panel

2012-07-31 Thread JAlexoid
This happens not only before Unity starts, it happens a lot in cases
where switching between multi monitors.

1) Connect second(external) monitor
2) Position the outputs vertically
3) Start an application
4) Move it to area of Monitor B(below Monitor A)
5) Close the application while in Monotor B
6) Disconnect Monitor B
7) Start the application

The application moves to a lower worspace and has the title bar under the top
panel. Can't move it without closing the application.
Window manager needs to take the title bar(decorations) into account when
positioning the newly opened windows.

Monitor A ir dimentioanlly smaller than Monotor B (as an example A = 1600x900
vs B = 1920x1080)

Happens constantly when I connect my TV to laptop, close any
applications while they are on my TV and disconnect my TV from laptop.

Re: [Bug 745608]

2012-07-31 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi,

Paul Menzel wrote:

20:34 ickle that hints towards a kernel bug
20:34 ickle of the sort fixed by the unfenced blt patch

This should be in Linux 3.4 and definitely in 3.5. So it would be great
 if somebody could test this.

JFTR: I experienced this bug definitely on my EeePC 701 4G with kernel
3.4 (currently 3.4.4-1~experimental.1) from the moment it hit Debian
Experimental until I switched to sna, i.e. for months.

Using sna had strange side-effects like wrong tint colors in urxvt:
blue, cyan and 100% transparency instead of 50%, i.e. clear instead of
shaded. After X start I always had blue, after adding another screen
via xrandr, I got 100% transparency, after removing that screen again,
I had cyan.

So far I haven't noticed any font corruption since the switch to sna,
also not after suspend to RAM (which was suspected somewhere else to
trigger the corruption).

Regards, Axel

[Bug 119899]

2012-07-31 Thread Thomas-sisson-1
This behavior is still present in the most current versions (note
message date) of Thunderbird on Ubuntu and SeaMonkey on Windows 7. It
does appear to be an issue when applying after the fact to IMAP and POP
mail. Someone commented about a search function for AOL. Every webmail
account I have, including AOL, has a search function. Many of these
*custom* headers are standard headers. The best workaround, in my
opinion, is to simply add common headers to future builds. This can also
be an issue because occasionally the mail filters cannot find the folder
the message is to be moved (another bug?). In my mind, X should imply
custom headers since that is the recommended standard. All other common
headers should be considered standard.

A suggest list, including those already listed, should contain
Authentication-Results, BCC, CC, Content-Type, Content-Transfer-
Encoding, Date, Delivered-To, DKIM-Signature, DomainKey-Signature, From,
List-Id, List-Subscribe, List-Unsubscribe, Mailing-List, Message-ID,
MIME-Version, Precedence, Received, References, Reply-To, Return-Path,
Sender, Subject, To.

I'm sure this is not a comprehensive list. Also, some of these may be
meaningless and some starting with X might be added. However, the person
working on this bug will make the final decision when editing the code.
Please offer further suggestions so that we may come to an agreement. I
don't think this work around will add bulk or slow down mail.

[Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen

2012-07-31 Thread Andy Holyer
I think this is the bug I have noticed since some point in July.

As a distinction, this is not on a Thinkpad - it's a Samsung NC10 Netbook. I've
been using this as you would a netbook - suspend by shutting the lid, then
start up, get the login prompt and back to where you were before the suspension
happened.
In the last month, often a short period after restoring - so you can switch
windows in Chromium or go to look at mail, I get dumped out to the login screen.
Noticed the Segfault error with Xorg in /var/log/kern.log.

segfault at 9 ip b76fdb28 sp bf821000 error 4 in Xorg

What other info would it be useful to gather?

Here's lspci, in case that helps:

[Bug 502222] Re: 04f2:b070 Webcam detected but crashes shows 'test video' and crashes WiFi device

2012-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Firefly, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Karmic
reached EOL on April 30, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test
the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the
tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the tag: 'kernel-unable-
to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 974938] Re: Process gsettings prevents logging in

2012-07-31 Thread Olivier Cortès
Hi All,

I think this bug is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/at-spi2-core/+bug/870874

I'm not sure and I will not mark it as such, but symptoms seems the
same: LDAP/NFS users, gsettings preventing session open with
blackscreen. Various workarounds seem to work with mitigated results
(installing nscd, removing /etc/X11/XSession.d/90qt-a11y…). For me,
disabling the XSession.d script worked the first time, then not the
subsequents. Did not try installing nscd yet, but caching LDAP results
is not an option, it will just hide/mask an underlying network problem
IMHO.

regards,
Olivier

[Bug 663638] Re: 046d:0819 USB Wireless Card and USB Webcam Conflict

2012-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Grant B, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test
the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the
tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the tag: 'kernel-unable-
to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1029502] Re: unity-panel-service crashed with SIGSEGV in g_dbus_proxy_call_internal()

2012-07-31 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Could be. Just for clarification: ppa:sil2100/quantal - which is the
source of the installed package, is nothing else than lp:compiz trunk
packages + distro fixes for enabling the gsettings framework. So besides
the distro magic regarding gsettings, there is nothing else than compiz
trunk. The unity package also had to be rebuild because of a necessary
ABI bump. But essentially the unity package is the same as in quantal,
just rebuilt against the new compiz.

[Bug 1027798] Re: Battery charging status is not recognized

2012-07-31 Thread Jason Robinson
This for me seems fixed, although my Samsung laptop brightness buttons
cause the screen to flicker and thus are useless now :)

uname -a
Linux jaytec 3.2.0-27-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 6 14:25:57 UTC 2012 x86_64

Not quite sure what update fixed it, possibly a driver update from
Ubuntu http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ Ubuntu PPA
which offers updated X drivers.

When the installer tarball's md5sum is not matching it would be helpful
to print the expected and the calculated values, so there is a clue as
to whether the tarball is corrupted by checking against a MD5SUm file on
cdimage.ubuntu com, or they are not matching versions.

[Bug 995649] Re: [12.04] wpa_supplicant raises kernel NULL pointer dereference [r8712u]

2012-07-31 Thread Martine
I have done the kernel upgrade to v3.4 for precise (21-May-2012 09:41) on my
brand new PC with Ubuntu 12.04 (with kernel 3.2.0-27) but still the wireless
device does not work; it is there but no networks are detected.
I also tried ndiswrapper to no avail: does not do the trick.
As wireless is essential I will have to use windows7 where the wireless device
works without problem.

so, could you please provide an impact statement on how these messages
impact the performance of your computer? As well, could you please test

version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the
tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why

[Bug 893635] Re: Computer crashes when use some USB device like Bluetooth or Pendrive

2012-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rui Mendes, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Capturing_OOPs
? As well, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test
the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the
tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the tag: 'kernel-unable-
to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1031309] [NEW] skype package still ships with outdated Terms of Use

2012-07-31 Thread Sergio Gelato
Public bug reported:

The changelog for 4.0.0.7-0lucid1 says in part:
  * Update debian/copyright with the current EULA, and adjust debian/rules
to ensure it remains up to date in the future.
However, the copyright file still (as of 4.0.0.8-0lucid1) contains a version of
the Skype Terms of Use from 2009.
There is a newer one (dated May 2012) at
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/legal/terms/tou/ .

[Bug 915265] Re: [regression] Unity launcher on-screen corruption on resume from suspend with nVidia proprietary driver

2012-07-31 Thread Treviño
Daniel, as I've written on the merge propsal for
lp:~thumper/unity/regional-damage-sru/+merge/116796, that seems to fix the
issue, however with that branch I have the PC hanging after few seconds (when
it works), or lots of crashes on startup.
The backtrace looks similar to bug #982626

[Bug 806761] Re: Feature Request: Upstart scripts for nslcd

2012-07-31 Thread James Hunt
Hi Caleb,

Thanks for keeping the momentum going on this. I notice though that you are
still using $K5START_LOGFILE which really
isn't required now. Have you maybe attached an older version of the patch in
#13 by mistake?

Regarding your comment about good and bad interfaces, the Upstart
'instance' stanza may help solve that issue. See:

http://upstart.ubuntu.com/cookbook/#instance

Using the 'interface' stanza, you could have multiple instances of the
job.

Clint, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 725233] Re: Alps touchpad improperly detect as PS2 Generic Mouse. No scroll function at all

2012-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mykrob, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick
reached EOL on April 10, 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test
the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the
tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the tag: 'kernel-unable-
to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1031167] Re: installation of libqt4-gui fails with unmet dependencies

2012-07-31 Thread Jonathan Thomas
It looks like you've partially upgraded Qt, but turned off the precise-
updates repository. You can try fixing this by launching the Muon
Software Center, going to Settings - Configure Software Sources, going
to the Updates tab, and ticking the Recommended Updates checkbox.

[Bug 979287] Re: Can't add 'other locations' for clock in 12.04

2012-07-31 Thread Skilly
I have been experiencing this exact problem since upgrading to 12.04. A
number of times I have attempted to add a few international locations
that I routinely like to reference but abandoned the task after
realising that it doesn't work. Tonight if finally annoyed me enough
to google the problem. I initially subscribed to this bug upon reading
it, however after viewing Charles Kerr's attached screenshot, I tried
again. The problem is that the dropdown list isn't populated
automatically; it's blank, giving the impression that there are no
values behind it, however if you start tyying the list starts populating
after some delay.

I believe that the functionality is there, however the bug is in that
it isn't intuitive that the data is available, leading one to draw an
incorrect conclusion that the functionality is not available

[Bug 959276] Re: Scrolling message in preview breaks rendering

2012-07-31 Thread Matt C
This bug has been plaguing me for 6 months at least but I was unable to
track it down - until today.

The preview pane hangs (won't refresh on scrolling, doesn't change emails and
is generally unusable) as described.
This happens regularly to me and is always triggered by certain emails in my
Inbox.

Usually the emails triggering this bug are plain-text (server/system-
generated) multipart emails with, for example, long CSV attachments - or
copy log files emailed to me from appliances. I have many emails that I
cannot view. Evolution's preview window hangs 90% of the time on these
emails. Formatting Message takes a long time on these messages too.

Force shutdown or restart of evolution is required to view any other
email.

running with LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 makes the problem go away, albeit with a
workaround.
Eureka!

As an Eclipse user too this LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR has been a nuisance
from day one of its inception. It bugs out all the main apps I use.

I suspect from visual observations that this issue is due to a rapid
stream of continuous widget scroll area size change events that causes
overlay scrollbar to break the widget. Some apps used to disappear;
evolution has a widget hang.

[Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

Maybe it is nvidia only related or have it some relation witch Xorg too?

I have a 32 bits Ubuntu 12.04 with 302.17 nvidia driver (x-swat ppa) and

whathever application do that).

Who is doing bad the things? Who nobody that knows about it just give us

So I will try the old nvidia driver, manually downloaded and installed.

Maybe some old XOrg too?

Re: [Bug 890956] Re: bad: scheduling from the idle thread! 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu

2012-07-31 Thread Wayne Kearns
Sorry Chris,

I tried a couple of other boot disks and found a distro that didn't present
the problem and that was a bit closer to my Slackware roots. Archlinux. The
problem went away immediately and has not returned.

My apologies for my impatience, but this was my primary workstation at home
and I needed to update several pieces of software to support my work.

I can run some exports so that you can have a comparison, or if you think a
live bootdisk would show the same issue (it didn't before). The problem was
either with the rt2500pci wireless driver or the nvidia driver...

Thanks,

WLK

[Bug 776513] Re: internet connection breaks from time to time

2012-07-31 Thread karl
I am sorry, Thomas, but I switched to wired lan and put my card into another
machine where it waits to be configured. If the problem occures there again I
can reopen the bug.
Other users (http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/ar9170-tp-link-wn822n/)
encountering the same problem solved it by using wicd instead of network
manager. But for me it was also a bit faulty even when connecting via
command-line.

Sorry that I cannot provide any further information about this, but
obviously there are not too many people affected...

Thanks for answering!
Greetings
Karl

Tested the new package from proposed, and everything worked as expected.
Tested an upgrade of the package with the wrong parameter in main.cf and
postinst successfully changed the parameter.
Tested a new install on a fresh system and it worked.

2012-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
cmavr8, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend ? As well, could you
please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO
CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test
the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the
tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the tag: 'kernel-unable-
to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1031323] [NEW] System freezes on high memory usage and swapping

2012-07-31 Thread Helio Tadao Goto
Public bug reported:

HDD ligths turn on steady and mouse+keyboard becomes almost unresponsive
(I say almost because there's some really short moments that a key or
mouse move acts and then freezes for several minutes and so on).
Sometimes I've left it overnight to see if the notebook turns back to
operation, but most of time in the morning, the system continues with
the HD working nonstop.
