[Bug 915995] Re: ldconfig makes system loader /lib/ld-linux.so.2 to be linked to 3rd party loaders in /lib directory

2012-10-05 Thread Adam Conrad
ldconfig is doing exactly what it was designed to do, which is to link
SONAMEs to libraries providing that SONAME in the same directory. This
is more a case of "don't do that, then" than a bug in glibc.

Since there was much asking about why this only happens in recent
versions of Ubuntu, it's because the real linker (ld-2.1x.so) used to
live in /lib until we moved to multiarch so, due to SHEER LUCK because
of sort order, it was scanned first, and subsequent providers of the
SONAME were ignored. Now that it lives in a different directory, third
party linkers in /lib that provide the incorrect SONAME get picked up
and symlinked. The solution here is really to not provide the same
SONAME as the system linker, but a quick workaround for those affected
could also be to move the offending third-party binary to the multi-arch
path instead.

[Bug 1052861] Re: After upgrade to new kernel version, machine crashes after a few hours of uptime

2012-10-05 Thread JanCeuleers
I have now purged all -43 and -44 kernels (i.e. the released -43 kernel
and all test kernels v1 through v5), then reinstalled the released -43
kernel, and also pulled in the compat-wireless package for -43. After
rebooting the machine has stayed up overnight.

Luis and I both had a theory about the cause:

- Luis found an installation issue in the apt logs which might have
caused the initial installation of the -43 kernel to be bodged. I would
however have expected that situation to have been corrected by my
subsequent dpkg -i-ing of the test kernel packages.

- I noticed that I am using certain modules from the compat-wireless
package, and that a compat-wireless package corresponding with the -43
kernel package had not yet been available when I first upgraded to -43,
nor while I was testing the v1 through v3 test kernels which were also
based on the -43 ABI.

I could try and remove the -43 compat-wireless package and test again;
would you like me to do that? (Meanwhile I'll keep the current situation
until the machine has been up for at least 48 hours in order to confirm
stability).

[Bug 982443] Re: ldconfig reports /usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.tar is not an ELF file - wrong magic bytes

2012-10-05 Thread Adam Conrad
It's not wrong, those tarballs aren't libraries. They also, however,
aren't shipped by any Ubuntu packages so, I assume you had some odd
third-party something or other that tarred up those libraries, perhaps
to back them up? Either way, not a bug for ldconfig to complain about
non-libraries in library directories.

[Bug 1062698] [NEW] Sync mailsync 5.2.2-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-10-05 Thread Oussama Bounaim
Public bug reported:

Please sync mailsync 5.2.2-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Changelog entries since current quantal version 5.2.2-2:

mailsync (5.2.2-3) unstable; urgency=high

  * set urgency=high because libc-client broke mailsync and the
mailsync currently in wheezy and to be released will not even
start. See next changelog entry and also #682256 and #686393
  * debian/control: rebuild against and depend on libc-client2007e
(>= 8:2007f~dfsg-1) since c-client broke its own library
version checks. Thanks Fredrik Jonson (Closes: #685897)
  * debian/copyright: made machine readable
  * debian/compat: added
  * debian/control: added
  * a question to my 23 users (according to popcon): is it worth
to maintain this package? Wouldn't it maybe be wiser to migrate
to open. If you care about this package then please let me know.

[Bug 1035534] [NEW] Country code fr_CA is interpreted as fr_FR

2012-10-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Mint 13 is installed with language french and country Canada.
The command 'locale' return LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 and the file /etc/environment
contains LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8

It should be LANG=fr_CA.UTF-8

I use Netbeans and when I ask for the country, it returns 'France'
instead of 'Canada'.

So when I have to format date or money, I have euro symbol or delimiters
used in France.

In Mandriva, I don't have this bug.

If i can't resolve this issue rapidly, I will have to return to
Mandriva.

Thank you.

[Bug 1062696] [NEW] [Precise only] When I try openinga a DAISY book with the daisy-player application a directory, application producing segmentation fault

2012-10-05 Thread Attila Hammer
Public bug reported:

Dear Developers,

I installed Ubuntu 12.04 release awailable daisy-player package. I try opening
some DAISY books with directoryes in terminal with daisy-player path command.
The application always produced segmentation fault.
The Quantal awailable daisy-player package 7.2.1 version doesn't producing this
issue.

I attaching a testing little DAISY book. The bug reproducation steps:
1. Unzip the attached DAISY book a directory.
2. Open Terminal, and run daisy-player full path/daisy command, for example
daisy-player ~/test/daisy.

Expected result:
Daisy-player need reading DAISY structure and need presenting the choosable
sections. In Quantal this is right happening.
Actual result in Precise:
Application producing following segmentation fault:

2012-10-05 Thread Axel FILMORE
I've the same problem under Lubuntu Quantal, that's a recent regression,
when selecting some text and scrolling at some point the selection
vanishes and you have only the cursor that moves but no more selection.
Selecting text with the keyboard using arrow keys always works but with
the mouse the selection vanishes.

[Bug 1062690] Re: Desktop and Scrivania both present in the italian version

2012-10-05 Thread Sandra Farnedi
After rebooting the system the situation is the one described in the attached
screen-hot. Now my desktop reflects the contents of the Scrivania folder.
Desktop folder still exists with its old contents, but they are not shown on my
Desktop.
I want also to underline that the two icons of the Scrivania folder,
immediately after rebooting, where overlapped, but I think it is another
problem that I'll report separately.

This is a bug in lm-sensors, not sensors-applet (since sensors-applet
simply uses lm-sensors to read the sensors anyway). Have you tried a
later version of Ubuntu as the latest ones will have newer versions of
lm-sensors which will support new motherboards etc.

[Bug 1061460] Re: languague

2012-10-05 Thread Adolfo Jayme Barrientos
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1051892] Re: [Quantal] Regression in TLS 1.2 workarounds

2012-10-05 Thread Tyler Hicks
To put a different way... I'm just attempting to fix the regression from
Precise to Quantal. That simple change is what fixes it and gets OpenSSL
working the same as it is in Precise. If I had more time before release,
then I'd probably propose quite a few other changes to the TLS 1.2
workarounds but I'm just focusing on this regression right now.

There's a reason, but I'm not sure if it is actually valid:

That's how it is in Precise.

I mentioned that s3_clnt.c should probably be changed to
TLS1_get_client_version() in this bug description and the patch that I
proposed to upstream in rt #2881 does make that change. But since
upstream hasn't commented and things seem to be working ok in Precise, I
don't want to rock the boat too much at this point.

FWIW, I did switch ssl3_client_hello() over to use
TLS1_get_client_version() and all of the test results above were the
same. So I'm ok with making the change, but I'd rather not at this
point.

[Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_render() from brw

2012-10-05 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Anmar, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xserver-xorg-video-intel into precise-proposed. The package
will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/xserver-xorg-video-intel/2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2 in a few hours, and then
in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_render() from brw

2012-10-05 Thread Timo Aaltonen
** Description changed:

  [Impact]:

severe, compiz hangs frequently after resuming from suspend or the
  screensaver

  [Testcase]:

  - grab xserver-xorg-video-intel from quantal
  - build it from the extracted directory
  - after the build run 'cd test && make dri2-swap'
  - log in X
  - start two terminals
  - get dpms.sh from this bug, run it in the other terminal
  - on the other run ./dri2-swap

compiz should hang during the first couple of runs of dri2-swap

with the fixed package, it doesn't

  [Regression potential]

To ease the backporting, I did replace patch 101 with the commit that
was pulled upstream. This patch is needed for smooth transition from
plymouth to X. There _could_ be some issues with it (meaning additional
patches needed from upstream), but it seems to be working just fine for
  me.

- The precise upload has another upstream fix for an issue I hit while
- trying to reproduce it with the 'xset dpms' while-loop. It should be
- safe to include.
+ The precise upload has another upstream fix for an issue referenced in
+ bug 992391, it should be safe.

  ---

This bug is about problems after resume, with Intel video hardware and
i965_dri.so. If you're having these symptoms with other hardware,
Nvidia or ATI/Radeon, this isn't the place for reports or questions.

[Those comments are building up, so brief links to direct other people
to appropriate bugs might be good here, if anyone has them. Thanks.]

This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black
screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves)
but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it.
Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password
lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of
whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor
still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is
frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing
the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop.

Attempts to replace compiz have been fruitless. Trying the 3.4 kernel
also did not fix the issue.

BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before
suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover
is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost.

  [UPDATE]
It was discovered that switching to a tty, killing compiz, then invoking
'metacity --replace' would successfully switch over to metacity. Attempting to
invoke 'compiz --replace' afterwards would put the state right back where it
was (frozen screen, etc.) and output error messages saying something similar to
"invalid configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a
bug report about it". After killing Compiz again and invoking compiz --replace
yet again I can get basic window management back (though unity --replace still
does not work as it whines about unclean exit states). So one still needs to
start over again to get it all functioning properly.

[Bug 1062507] Re: dconf Editor menu is unresponsive

2012-10-05 Thread Adolfo Jayme Barrientos
Odd, my dconf-editor doesn't show those menus - it only shows the Gnome
AppMenu (a single menu called "Dconf Editor"). It seems that apps that
have both normal menus and Gnome AppMenus clash under Unity.
