[Bug 915995] Re: ldconfig makes system loader /lib/ld-linux.so.2 to be linked to 3rd party loaders in /lib directory
ldconfig is doing exactly what it was designed to do, which is to link SONAMEs to libraries providing that SONAME in the same directory. This is more a case of "don't do that, then" than a bug in glibc. Since there was much asking about why this only happens in recent versions of Ubuntu, it's because the real linker (ld-2.1x.so) used to live in /lib until we moved to multiarch so, due to SHEER LUCK because of sort order, it was scanned first, and subsequent providers of the SONAME were ignored. Now that it lives in a different directory, third party linkers in /lib that provide the incorrect SONAME get picked up and symlinked. The solution here is really to not provide the same SONAME as the system linker, but a quick workaround for those affected could also be to move the offending third-party binary to the multi-arch path instead. ** Changed in: eglibc (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915995 Title: ldconfig makes system loader /lib/ld-linux.so.2 to be linked to 3rd party loaders in /lib directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eglibc/+bug/915995/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1052861] Re: After upgrade to new kernel version, machine crashes after a few hours of uptime
I have now purged all -43 and -44 kernels (i.e. the released -43 kernel and all test kernels v1 through v5), then reinstalled the released -43 kernel, and also pulled in the compat-wireless package for -43. After rebooting the machine has stayed up overnight. Luis and I both had a theory about the cause: - Luis found an installation issue in the apt logs which might have caused the initial installation of the -43 kernel to be bodged. I would however have expected that situation to have been corrected by my subsequent dpkg -i-ing of the test kernel packages. - I noticed that I am using certain modules from the compat-wireless package, and that a compat-wireless package corresponding with the -43 kernel package had not yet been available when I first upgraded to -43, nor while I was testing the v1 through v3 test kernels which were also based on the -43 ABI. I could try and remove the -43 compat-wireless package and test again; would you like me to do that? (Meanwhile I'll keep the current situation until the machine has been up for at least 48 hours in order to confirm stability). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1052861 Title: After upgrade to new kernel version, machine crashes after a few hours of uptime To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1052861/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The bug reproducation steps: 1. Unzip the attached DAISY book a directory. 2. Open Terminal, and run daisy-player full path/daisy command, for example daisy-player ~/test/daisy. After rebooting the system the situation is the one described in the attached screen-hot. Now my desktop reflects the contents of the Scrivania folder. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). This feels wrong to me, > but maybe there's a valid reason for it? There's a reason, but I'm not sure if it is actually valid: That's how it is in Precise. I mentioned that s3_clnt.c should probably be changed to TLS1_get_client_version() in this bug description and the patch that I proposed to upstream in rt #2881 does make that change. But since upstream hasn't commented and things seem to be working ok in Precise, I don't want to rock the boat too much at this point. FWIW, I did switch ssl3_client_hello() over to use TLS1_get_client_version() and all of the test results above were the same. So I'm ok with making the change, but I'd rather not at this point. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1051892 Title: [Quantal] Regression in TLS 1.2 workarounds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openssl/+bug/1051892/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_render() from brw
** Description changed: [Impact]: severe, compiz hangs frequently after resuming from suspend or the screensaver [Testcase]: - grab xserver-xorg-video-intel from quantal - build it from the extracted directory - after the build run 'cd test && make dri2-swap' - log in X - start two terminals - get dpms.sh from this bug, run it in the other terminal - on the other run ./dri2-swap compiz should hang during the first couple of runs of dri2-swap with the fixed package, it doesn't [Regression potential] To ease the backporting, I did replace patch 101 with the commit that was pulled upstream. This patch is needed for smooth transition from plymouth to X. There _could_ be some issues with it (meaning additional patches needed from upstream), but it seems to be working just fine for me. - The precise upload has another upstream fix for an issue I hit while - trying to reproduce it with the 'xset dpms' while-loop. It should be - safe to include. + The precise upload has another upstream fix for an issue referenced in + bug 992391, it should be safe. --- This bug is about problems after resume, with Intel video hardware and i965_dri.so. If you're having these symptoms with other hardware, Nvidia or ATI/Radeon, this isn't the place for reports or questions. [Those comments are building up, so brief links to direct other people to appropriate bugs might be good here, if anyone has them. Thanks.] This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop. Attempts to replace compiz have been fruitless. Trying the 3.4 kernel also did not fix the issue. BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost. [UPDATE] It was discovered that switching to a tty, killing compiz, then invoking 'metacity --replace' would successfully switch over to metacity. Attempting to invoke 'compiz --replace' afterwards would put the state right back where it was (frozen screen, etc.) and output error messages saying something similar to "invalid configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a bug report about it". After killing Compiz again and invoking compiz --replace yet again I can get basic window management back (though unity --replace still does not work as it whines about unclean exit states). So one still needs to start over again to get it all functioning properly.
