so the TestFolder in the trash is NOT empty.

(like in the step 1)

this one's empty.

now what happens here is not clear. does it replace the new one with the old
one, the old one with the new one, or does it offer you options?
OP and you (I think?) say that it just sort of makes the original non-empty
TestFolder disappear:

but Julien and I instead get a dialog that is aware of this conundrum
and asks the user to act.

clear?

[Bug 1001429] Re: scroll doesn't work with my touchscreen

2012-10-15 Thread Tom Jaeger
The original plan was to release 0.6.0 with touch support (including a
fix for this issue) shortly after 0.5.6. But it turns out that touch
support in the X server isn't as mature as one would hope, and I'm
currently working on identifying what the issues are. So it'll probably
be a while before I can enable touch support (it will most likely have
to wait until the next X server release). If you're feeling
adventurous, you can check out the current state of affairs on the
'next' branch in git.

Now the purpuse of the switch to raw events for 'scroll' was so that
relative devices wouldn't hit the screen edge. There is obviously no
way of avoiding that for touch screens, so going back to regular grabs
for absolute devices will fix the issue for now. I've applied a patch
to the easystroke-0.5 branch, and this will be part of the next point
release.

[Bug 1067222] Re: Built-in SD card reader on Acer Aspire One AS756 intermittently operative

2012-10-15 Thread Ian Johnston
I was led astray by reports from others of suspend/resume being a
factor.

The key difference between the card reader working and not working:
wired ethernet connected. With no ethernet connected, the card reader
fails with the "timeout waiting for interrupt" message. With an
ethernet cable connected, I am able to read all tested cards (all of
which are Class 6, Class 4, or unmarked) except for a SanDisk SDHC I
Class 10 UHS-I 16 GB card, which fails with the 1.8v signalling message:

[ 528.756952] sdhci: Switching to 1.8V signalling voltage failed, retrying
with S18R set to 0
[ 650.352628] eth1: no IPv6 routers present
[ 676.708436] mmc0: Card removed during transfer!
[ 676.708446] mmc0: Resetting controller.
[ 676.719317] mmc0: error -123 whilst initialising SD card

This correlates with other reports I found of adding or removing the tg3
module having an effect on SD card reader functionality. The ethernet
cable was a crossover connected to another computer for this test, which
is presumably enough to light up the ethernet section of the Broadcom
device and load a module if necessary.

Inserting a previously-working card (with ethernet disconnected) then
running "rmmod tg3; modprobe tg3" as root results in the card being read
and automounted. It doesn't seem to allow the UHS-I card to be read.
dmesg from reloading the tg3 module:

[Bug 1067227] [NEW] Closed windows appear as phantom desktop overlay

2012-10-15 Thread bcbc
Public bug reported:

I'm running Quantal development release up to date. Sometimes
application windows that I close appear to be still open, but it's an
'image overlay' on the desktop (on all desktop spaces). I'm including a
snapshot as this doesn't make a lot of sense.

Basically, it looks like the application window is still there, but it's
not. In the attached picture, I am showing all desktop spaces and it
appears that a chrome browse window with a google search is present in
all of them... but there is no open browser window anywhere and clicking
on any of them does nothing. Also, I can open new browser windows that
work fine, so it's not a chrome problem. I have seen the same behaviour
with other applications than chrome so I believe it's not app specific.

[Bug 1066850] Re: Alt+F10 does not maximize a window

2012-10-15 Thread Michael V. Antosha
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 955965 ***

This workaround is also working:

CCSM > General Options > Key bindings > maximize_window_key > Reset settings to
the default value
(was: F10; became: Down)

Now I can maximize/unmaximize window with Ctrl+Super+Up/Down (did not
work for maximizing after upgrade).

This also solved an issue described in #994944 (Alt+F10 showed twice in
shortcuts but did not work for maximizing).

Found this reference to the bug on mozilla support site:

In short, it is a confirmed bug for Firefox 16 and is confirmed to be
fixed in Firefox 18.

Do I need to revert to Firefox 15 to address the bug? This one is
"really annoying", especially as I don't see a manual hack to fix it in

[Bug 755342] Re: Samsung Xcover 271 B2710 mass storage does not mount automatically

2012-10-15 Thread Andrew Simpson
Regarding comment #8. Can now confirm that usb_modeswitch is not
working with Kubuntu 12.04. Changing the config file to
'DisableSwitching=1' provides a fix.

Have enabled debugging (EnableLogging=1) and collected debugging
information with 'DisableSwitching=0'. File is attached.

2012-10-15 Thread karl anliot
in my test, i tested with an empty directory, so I naturally confirmed
the dialog warning me about "overwriting files" since the directory
was empty I can't imagine being concerned with overwriting files I
can't exist.
so no it makes 0 sense.

[Bug 1067222] [NEW] Built-in SD card reader on Acer Aspire One AS756 intermittently operative

2012-10-15 Thread Ian Johnston
Public bug reported:

I am tracking down variables right now, and will update as I make
further discoveries, but here's the story so far:

After two non-consecutive suspend/resume cycles on a new Acer Aspire One
AO756, the built-in SD card reader refuses to recognize any card, giving
the following errors in dmesg:

[25887.536273] mmc0: Timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.
[25897.551037] mmc0: Timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.
[25907.565804] mmc0: Timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.
[25912.659727] mmc0: Card removed during transfer!
[25912.659737] mmc0: Resetting controller.
[25934.954354] mmc0: Timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.
[25944.969143] mmc0: Timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.
[25954.983873] mmc0: Timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.
[25961.920074] mmc0: Card removed during transfer!
[25961.920085] mmc0: Resetting controller.

(This represents testing and remove two different cards.)

After a suspend/resume cycle between the two aforementioned tests, I was
able to get one card, a Transcend MicroSDHC 32 GB Class 4 card to not
only be recognized, but automatically mount as expected, and finally was
able to transfer the entire contents of the card (just over 30 GB) to
the local HD. Other cards I had available produced errors. The dmesg
from the working, followed by a nonworking card:

[17033.338324] mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address e624
[17033.338655] mmcblk0: mmc0:e624 SU32G 29.7 GiB
[17033.350297] mmcblk0: p1
[19371.234706] mmc0: card e624 removed
[19571.454428] sdhci: Switching to 1.8V signalling voltage failed, retrying
with S18R set to 0
[19584.391746] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card
[19598.266014] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card
[19600.144345] sdhci: Switching to 1.8V signalling voltage failed, retrying
with S18R set to 0
[19609.164688] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card
[19634.785422] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card

I'm now going through and trying different things to see if I can
isolate what's causing the different results. In the later test, where
nothing was recognized, that test included the MicroSDHC card that
worked previously. I'll update the notes if I can find what is causing
the different behaviors.

[Bug 1067222] Re: Built-in SD card reader on Acer Aspire One AS756 intermittently operative

2012-10-15 Thread Ian Johnston
For testing purposes, I'm familiar with Linux, although the last time I
built a kernel was in the 2.4 days, and I'm not well versed in how
Ubuntu does things (I'm an old Slackware hand). I'm quite willing to do
low-level testing, and if I can get pointers on where to look, I'll work
with patches or kernel code mods.

[Bug 996906] Re: periodic audio skips with Intel HDA

2012-10-15 Thread Charles Lindsay
Results: using "options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1" in /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base.conf didn't make the problem go away. Using position_fix=2
made the problem actively worse: the audio literally didn't do anything
but skip. Using "load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0" in
/etc/pulse/default.pa made flash videos unplayable (not just the audio,
but the video would stutter as well). In short, none of those fixes
solved my problem.

Any other ideas?

apport information

** Description changed:

A daemon works in the background to update the list of available and
upgradeable packages, then update-manager pops up and displays which
packages have upgrades available. When I click on the "Install Updates"
button, update-manager proceeds to download and install the upgrades but
before doing so, no window pops up to ask for a user's password before
installing the packages. In previous releases, a window would pop up
and prompt for the user's password before downloading and installing
  upgrades.

this ppa ppa:lekensteyn/wacom-tablet) package because Ubuntu 12.04 does not
deliver Intuos 5 support out of the box. With this package the intuos drawing

with my finger (I don't need to press them) the cursor jumps up in the top left

[Bug 1023672] Re: How to run scripts and newly created programms on the terminal. They worked well on Ubuntu 10.10

2012-10-15 Thread Book 'em Dano
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1038615] Re: Wacom Intuos 5 button touch moves the cursor to the top left corner

2012-10-15 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Thomas, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xf86-input-wacom into precise-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-
wacom/1:0.14.0-0ubuntu2.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Here's the uInitrd from the boot partition of my mmc after adding
hid_logitech_dj and updating the initramfs. I'm not seeing
hid_logitech_dj in it, nor am I seeing usbhid. Is it not getting
updated in the boot partition properly?

seems to me like something we can take as a target of opportunity rather than
something that warrants a respin on its own
infinity: so I'm going to leave it in the queue and mark it on the
pad, for now

This can be accepted if another member of the release team thinks it
should be, or if there are other packages accepted before release that
require a global respin.

I guess we all get what we pay for, huh? Now that Shuttleworth isn't
propping up the operation anymore they must not have the resources to
even look at bug reports anymore. Guess I'll be heading back to good old
(stale) Debian, especially now that the default DE in wheezy is xfce.

[Bug 1066527] Re: Main speaker audio dies after sleep/resume

2012-10-15 Thread JAlexoid
A) Intel HDA stopped working at all now. With kernels 3.5.0 and 3.6.2. Mainline
3.5.7 works perfectly fine.
B) I did not go digging through what the details of the reports are.(So what
does pin ctrls mean is beyond my understanding of the issue)

[Bug 1067138]

2012-10-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1067138/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
