[Bug 1069196] [NEW] del.icio.us add-on subverted

2012-10-20 Thread Paul Murtaugh
Public bug reported:

Newer versions of firefox prevent the del.icio.us add-on from working.
I got around this temporarily by editing the file

/home/murtaugh/.mozilla/firefox/d0z95du4.default/extensions/{2fa4ed95-0317
-4c6a-a74c-5f3e3912c1f9}/install.rdf

and changing the maxVersion to 16.*, but I have had to do this more than
once, so I fear there is a deeper-seated issue. Why would you
purposely subvert this very popular add-on?

[Bug 1069199] [NEW] Unity does not start after installing fglrx-updates

2012-10-20 Thread Edson
Public bug reported:

After installing ATI proprietary drivers for my Radeon video card, Unity
doesn't start anymore. LightDM shows up, and I'm able to log in, but
Unity doesn't load.

Removing the package fixes the problem, getting back to the opensource
driver (ati).

Obs: The same occurs when installing fglrx package (if I choose it,
instead of fglrx-updates).

ProblemType: Bug

The call to hide_all_appointments in day_selected_cb should probably be

any unintended side effects.

[Bug 575000] Re: Conflict between webcam and wifi

2012-10-20 Thread expos
Christopher, nice to see that things are going on.

I installed the newest Kubuntu (12.10) (I didn't find a newer
development version in this moment). The bug still exists.

The information above are collected with apport as you described.

I'll now switch on wifi and the webcam (provoke the bug) and do a second
run with apport after my wifi and webcam crashed.

** Description changed:

Hi, I'm using Kubuntu 9.10, tried Kubuntu 10.04, same problem there. Also
tried opensuse 11.2, also same problem there.
Problem: When I start using my webcam, my wifi disconnects and is unable to
restart. On the other hand, my webcam only works with wifi disabled.
  Those are the components concerned:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501USB Wireless
Adapter

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04f2:b022 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd Gateway USB 2.0
Webcam

Workaround: Disabled uvcvideo by blacklisting it. When I want to use my
webcam, I need a Cable-LAN connection and starting it manually with sudo
  modprobe uvcvideo

First I thought, this bug is related to bug #435352, but as this seems
to be solved with an kernel-update, and mine isn't, it seems to be a new
one. In var/log/debug and messages there is no suspicious entry about
that. This bug affects all applications that use my webcam (Kopete,
  Skype, luvcview, etc.)

Here's the difference when using luvcview:

[Bug 1069200] [NEW] Unity WebApps do not uninstall

2012-10-20 Thread Louis Silvestro
Public bug reported:

Unity WebApps icons do not disappear when uninstalled. They successfully
installed on both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, but when

when the apps are removed from the dconf editor from
com.canonical.unity.webapps.

[Bug 1048193] Re: Forecast Information Cannot be fetched. Connection cannot be established

2012-10-20 Thread Miroslav Sabljić
@Mark Suarez

Why did you set this bug to FIx released? The bug isn't fixed and it
isn't released. I've checked indicator-weather source and changelogs and
there is nothing documented about fixing this. I'm using 12.10 with
indicator-weather 12.07.30-0ubuntu1. This behaviour started when Google
shut down their servers for weather forceast and indicator-weather is
using them to display forceast infomation. So this will not be fixed
until indicator-weather gets support for using some other forceast
source

Please reopen this bug.

The bulk of this needs to be done in ido, but it doesn't seem
complicated. And support for marking days that are not in the current
month could be added at the same time.

[Bug 1069206] [NEW] Shotwell search results are slow

2012-10-20 Thread Andrew McCarthy
Public bug reported:

On 64-bit 12.10 (quantal) with unity-lens-photos 0.8-0ubuntu1.

With over 21000 photos in my collection the search results from Shotwell
consistently take ten or twelve seconds to appear, which is longer than
many users will wait before thinking it's not working. Needs to be
faster if it's to be used regularly.

[Bug 1069206] Re: Shotwell search results are slow

2012-10-20 Thread Andrew McCarthy
Related branch is a first round of reorganising the search code to be
faster. Search times are now reduced to about three seconds on the same
collection.

[Bug 839800] Re: 5.1 built-in surround detected as 4.0 on Acer Aspire 8943G with ALC670

2012-10-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

After fresh installation even stereo configuration is set. From the menu
can be selected 4.0 configuration making the rear left and right
speakers work, however, front center and LFE (subwoofer) do not emit any
sound in any application. They can be only tested (and they are working
  within this command) by `speaker-test -D default -c6 -twav`.

[Bug 379367] Re: Gedit adding a newline at the end of file should be configurable

2012-10-20 Thread Ma Xiaojun
Hi, all.

If you are using 12.04 or 12.10 (other versions not tested), you can set
the behavior already.

1. Run dconf Editor (dconf-editor)
2. Go to /org/gnome/gedit/preferences/editor
3. Uncheck ensure-trailing-newline if you don't want automatically added
newline.

[Bug 1069202] [NEW] 12.10/3.6.2 - VMWare Player (W7 Host) produces corrupt video

2012-10-20 Thread Supaiku
Public bug reported:

When I start the VMWare Player 5 virtual machine my screen goes all crazy...
horizontal lines of color - probably the colors on the screen, but all mixed
up. I can see the mouse moving,b ut can't tell where it is (seems in many
places at the same time).
This has only been since updating to 12.10 (and updating to the mainline kernel
3.6.2)
amd64
ati Radeon Opensource drivers
recently updated to 12.10 (VMWare install was on 12.04)

Linux version 3.6.2-030602-generic (apw@gomeisa) (gcc version 4.6.3
(Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) )

VMWare version 5.0.0 build-812388

I'm not sure if the issue is 12.10 or the kernel - but I suspect it's
got something to do with 12.10 and the 3D desktop, opengl, or the ati
drivers.

If someone could recommend which logs I should include, I can do so.
(May be a bit slow.)

2012-10-20 Thread Paul Murtaugh
Thanks for the quick response. Funny, the add-on developer didn't do
anything, either! It must just be a cosmic coincidence that the failure

[Bug 1069217] [NEW] Minimizing apps launcher icon behavior

2012-10-20 Thread Willem van Gerven
Public bug reported:

Unexpected/unnatural behaviour - When having an app minimized in the
launcher, clicking it brings it back to focus. One would expect that a
second click would then bring it back to minimize again, however a
second click has currently no effect.

Observation:
This is particularly unnatural when working with a touchpad. For instance, you
have a pdf with some data open en you work in Libre office collecting some
information out of the pdf. Once in a while you want to see the pdf, so you
click on the icon to bring it to the front, you look, and then while your
pointer is still there on the icon, you want to minimize it again, so more or
less naturally you would like to click it again, but nothing happens. Instead
you have to navigate your pointer separately to the three window-control
buttons to minimize it again before being able to continue working.

Desired solution:
1- First click on an icon opens the program and brings it to front.
2- Second click on icon keeps the program open but minimizes it.
3- Third click brings the open program back to focus.
4- Fourth click minimizes it again.
5- etc...
An added bonus of this would also be:
- Opportunity of opening apps minimized by just double clicking the launcher
icon (combination of points 1 2) .

Pros: Added functionality of launcher icons in parallel with what one expects.
More natural economic workflow. Less pointer movements. Being able to start
an app minimized by just double clicking the icon: Currently no such feature is
available (without installing devilspie) and this would be nice.

Cons: None.

I already test 32023, 32031, and 3.6 . All of them have unuppropriate drivers
which doesn't work and after replaced drivers from realtek site, wifi adapter
works OK.

Thank you for testing those kernels.

So I think, that additional testing is useless,

If manually downloading the drivers from the Realtek website as you
outlined is a solution for you, then you may mark this report as Status
Invalid.

Otherwise, two ways exist on how to proceed:
1) The Realtek driver downloaded from the website is packaged in a supported
Ubuntu repository, and potentially quirked for your device ID. For more on this
path please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages .
2) The drivers that come by default with Ubuntu work with your device. We would
need to know if this is a regression for your device ID.

Which way(s) would you like?

just I can suggest to reploace existed in kernel drivers to new one.

See above.

If you like I can send Yo my...

Thank you for sending more detailed WORKAROUND instructions.

[Bug 1068897] Re: fglrx 2:9.000-0ubuntu3: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2012-10-20 Thread Dave Lentz
Using an older version of fglrx/Catalyst on Ubuntu 12.10 will not work
because the older version does not support recent kernels.

Do the following:
1) Completely remove old fglrx:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Precise_Installation_Guide#Removing_Catalyst.2Ffglrx
2) Restart
3) sudo apt-get install fglrx
4) Restart
5) Attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log to this bug report
6) Further describe the problem you're having with compiz

I was experiencing the same issue with the cx23885 driver not loading
with the 3.5.0-17 kernel. I even compiled the latest v4l-dvb modules
but to no avail. I downloaded and installed the latest upstream kernel
3.6.2, and the cx23885 driver loaded properly and does work.

Make sure fglrx is purged:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Precise_Installation_Guide#Removing_Catalyst.2Ffglrx
Restart the system, and if errors still occur, attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
file

2012-10-20 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
P.ease do not use all capital letters. It is considered rude.

Please file bug using `ubuntu-bug ubiquity` to attach the relevant logs,
either during the installation or from the installed system which
experienced your problem.

Without providing the logs it's impossible for me to tell what was
happening during your installation and therefore I cannot help you.

[Bug 1068434] Re: updating to Quantal breaks the system with Radeon HD 4200

2012-10-20 Thread Dave Lentz
Marking Invalid. AMD has dropped the RadeonHD 4x00 series from fglrx
support. The last version of fglrx to support your card is 8.960 (and
this version will not work in Quantal/12.10).

You must use the open-source radeon (or go back to using precise/12.04
if you want to use Catalyst).

If you experience issues with the open-source driver, please file a new
bug. Thanks.

2012-10-20 Thread Tom Jaeger
Sorry, no changes are necessary in ido, since this can be implemented in
the theme. Adding the following to '/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0
/gtk-widgets.css' or '/usr/share/themes/Radiance/gtk-3.0/gtk-
widgets.css' fixes the issue for me.

.menuitem GtkCalendar:inconsistent {

[Bug 548709] Re: [R423] gamma bug, display too bright when using DVI-VGA adapter [patch]

2012-10-20 Thread Andrey Barrientos M.
Unfortunately this problem is affecting me in Quantal Quetzal as well.
Basically the behavior is the same as the other fellow users are
experiencing: A too light-saturated Desktop Display that cannot be
corrected using any gamma utility.

In the past I could fix this using the radeon.modeset=0 variable in the
kernel boot, however since the upgrade, if I do that I don't have any
display, it logins normally but no image whatsoever. So in order to
boot in the system again I should use the radeon.modeset=1 variable
again, with the undesirable color side effects. Nevertheless this seems
to be affecting the Desktop only, because if I use any OpenGL program,
like the Open Arena game, colors shows normal.

Alas I've tried some of the solutions suggested in this thread with no
luck. I've attached the dmesg and lscpci logs to this report as the
documentation indicates, however if you need more information in order
to fix this issue, I would gladly do whatever it takes to see this
fixed.

Some basic information for reference is I'm using Kubuntu 12.10 Quantal
Quetzal and using an ATI Radeon R100 video card. Using the uname -a
shows me this kernel info: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct
9 19:32:08 UTC 2012 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux

I appreciate any help given with this issue and I thank you in advance
for taking the time to read this report and try to solve it.

Best regards,

-Andrey

[Bug 1007423] Re: ibus won't turn 'on' when in certain programs

2012-10-20 Thread Ma Xiaojun
IBus in 12.04 and earlier versions lacks a dependency to gnome-icon-theme,
you may need to install it manually for Kubuntu.
sudo apt-get install gnome-icon-theme

im-switch should be the recommended way of enabling IBus, instead of
manually change environmental variables.

Built-in Firefox should work. Changes are that you download Firefox from
Mozilla which is 32bit. 32bit Firefox don't work automatically on a
64bit system because of some technical reasons.

LibreOffice works on my Kubuntu 12.04 64bit box currently.

Other random apps should be discussed case-by-case.

[Bug 1069225] [NEW] Shotwell thumbnails not shown for raw photos in results

2012-10-20 Thread Andrew McCarthy
Public bug reported:

On 64-bit 12.10 (quantal) with unity-lens-photos 0.8-0ubuntu1.

For search results that include raw photos (.CRW files in my case) the
thumbnails are blank. The update_search_results() method looks for files
in the thumbnails folder that have the same extension as the source
file. However, at least for my files, Shotwell's thumbnails are .jpg and
so aren't seen.

A basic patch to fix my situation, attached, simply also checks for .jpg
thumbnails (so it checks thumb1234.jpg after failing to find
thumb1234.crw). A more thorough fix might be to check for
thumb1234.* perhaps?
